Belated Magestic Monday - Robert Pattinson Makes Us Smile

With this awesome news hitting the interwebs today, how can any of us not be smiling? We've celebrated with our friends across the pond as Bel Ami fever took them down, now we know it's finally time for the US to catch the fever we all want - well, in 53 days it is anyway (come on, you know you're counting them down too).

But while you're sat there smiling... do you want to smile some more? I know a man who can make that happen - introducing a smiley Robert Pattinson.

I triple dog dare you not to at the very least smirk...

From Deadline.com:

New York – (March 12, 2012) – The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced today the June 8th U.S. theatrical release of BEL AMI, starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci, and Colm Meaney. BEL AMI had its World Premiere as an Official Selection of last month’s 62nd Berlin International Film Festival.

In this sexy retelling of Guy de Maupassant’s classic tale of blackmail, manipulation, and social-climbing, set against 19th century Paris, Pattinson stars as the young and very ambitious George Duroy, who discovers that his unadulterated passion and seduction skills with influential Parisian ladies (Ricci, Thurman, and Thomas), above-all, is the fastest and most effective way to the upper echelons of the society he so desperately wants to control.

I hope you're all ready for DuRob, He's coming to get ya!

People Mentioning Robert Pattinson

Yes a couple of people Mentioning Robert Pattinson today.

First up MyAnna Buring spoke to YahooOMGUK about how Rob and his co-stars have coped with their fame.

Photobucket

Speaking exclusively to Yahoo! omg! the Swedish actress said she's a very private person and would struggle with being scrutinised like Kristen, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

The 27-year-old, who plays Tanya in Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part I and II, reckons Kristen, Rob and Taylor have coped with the trappings of fame better than anyone.

She added: "I can't think of three people who would've handled such a crazy experience better. They've done it so well and quite differently. They're lovely. All three of them are absolutely lovely."

She also spoke about filming "Breaking Dawn".

Next up Jennifer Lawrence compares the "Twilight" & "Hunger Games" guys

I think we ALL know the answer to this one

Photobucket

Shaun Robinson from AccessHollywood asked Jennifer:

“Since there is the big rivalry between ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘Twilight’… Who’s got the hotter guys?”

“Since the feud is out in the open, I feel much more relieved, and I’m ready to take over as Hollywood’s glam girl,” the actress joked. “I have to go with our guys. But, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner [are very good looking,] but I have to go with mine… they’re my boys!”
(kate: we'll have to agree to disagree with you there Jennifer ;-))

"Robert Pattinson's Got An Enormous Amount Of Talent" - Declan Donnellan

Declan Donnellan & Nick Ormerod rave once again about Robert Pattinson.
I LOVE it!

Photobucket

What was it about Rob that you liked?

Ormerod: I think he's perfect for the role. He has those matinee idol good looks, the sort of gigilo looks that those women completely fall for, (Kate: oh Ya! ;-}) and yet he has a darkness, and interest, and a vulnerability sometimes too.
Donnellan: He's very bright too, and he understood the character. Rob's got an enormous amount of talent, but we're all fascinated by this character who has no talent. It's a modern story - the person who gets to the top with no talent. A journalist asked us the other day, "was this the first time the two of you have worked together?" (Kate: {giggle} research people!) You do start asking, how did they get the job? When I was young, it was really difficult to get jobs, and I think a lot of people get jobs because... I don't know. There's this fascination with how people get to the top of their jobs. They get there because they're empty, because they have no imagination, so other people can pin fantasies on them.
Ormerod: In every organisation you see them - their one talent is to get to the top.

Were you under any pressure to tone down the sex scenes when Rob came on board, in terms of attracting a wider audience?
Ormerod: No, the film is about sex. It's not titillating sex.
Donnellan: It's about a guy who sells his body, basically. All these women are in comfortable marriages, and none of them want to get divorced. Their relationship with him is essentially sexual.

Sinful Sunday starring Robert Pattinson, Bel Ami, and the ladies in the dark recesses

Sinful Sunday starring Robert Pattinson, Bel Ami, and the ladies in the dark recesses

Bel Ami debuted this past weekend in the UK and Ireland so there must be some things you guys want to discuss. ;) Here's your spoiler thread! I'm glad it was enjoyed by many of you. I'm not the least bit surprised.

I'm including a couple of reviews (one press, one fan) to kick off the conversation.

From RadioTimes (UK):
4 out of 5 stars
It's pretty daring to take Robert Pattinson, the most fanciable young actor of his generation, and cast him alongside actresses of the calibre of Kristin Scott Thomas, Uma Thurman and Christina Ricci. But it's a risk that pays off here as his performance takes this retelling of Guy de Maupassant's tale of sex and ambition to another level. As thrilling as it is sumptuous, the first feature from theatre directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod brings Paris at the turn of the 20th century to vibrant life, as handsome, brutish social climber Georges Duroy (Pattinson) plunders and blunders his way around the women of powerful men. The stunning production design frames Duroy's amorality as it unfolds like a rotten flower, and Pattinson has never looked more irresistible or dangerous. Thurman, especially, is a revelation - literally finding a new quality to her voice as the influential and wealthy Madeleine Forestier. A hauntingly beautiful triumph of content over style, this is Dangerous Liaisons meets Cruel Intentions with extra added credibility.

Kazrob's Bel Ami review:
I went to see Bel Ami on Friday and was completely blown away. The sets and costumes are sumptuous as was the soaring, sweeping musical score. Thankfully there was none of the irritating music that was played at the start of each trailer!

All parts were played well by the supporting cast but the highest accolade has to go to Kristen Scott Thomas. Her depiction of a complete fan girl, overwhelming infatuated by Georges is a sight to behold. Her vulnerability and naivety is mind blowing. Every scene between her and Rob is amazing. Christina Ricci is also brilliant. Playing a fairly light hearted role for once, she plays the coquettish Clotilde with aplomb. You feel an amazing chemistry between her and Georges that could be interpreted as love, if only Georges were truly capable of it. Uma Thurman was also good as Madeleine Forestier. She captured her ambition well enough but her husky voice did grate on me a little, as did her flared nostrils!

Philip Glenister and Colm Meaney were outstanding. No other word for it.

My only criticism would be the lack of political intrigue in the story. Not much of this was explained and seemed a little rushed. As every scene contained Rob, I'm not complaining too loudly as he more than made up for the lack of storyline. To a non Rob supporter though, this might irk a little.

Now to come to Rob.....he was mesmerising. I really cannot believe this was made 2 years ago. He was sullen if he didn't get his own way....smug when he did. The smiles ....god the smiles.... they were Rob smiles when he was truly happy. He was lustful...he was ruthless.....he was enigmatic......he was arrogant.....

All of these emotions portrayed on a face so blindingly beautiful that sometimes no words needed to be spoken to understand how he felt.

There were also light-hearted moments in the film that made the audience laugh out loud. The comedic timing was excellent and even though Georges was a complete bastard, they made you fall in love with him too, despite his true nature.

The contrast between the two styles of Georges from the beginning of the story to the end is SO different. At the beginning you have him scruffy, unshaven with hair flopping on his forehead to a suave, sophisticated young buck in a tuxedo, high waisted trousers and cream bow tie with hair neatly swept back of his face. I must admit, when he was dressed up, Rob made me catch my breath, especially in the close-up shots. Either looking straight ahead with with an arrogant look or that sexy half smile he has perfected.
Kaz heads into the dark recesses after the cut!

Larry Carroll shares details from his Twilight interviews with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart from 2008

Larry Carroll shares details from his Twilight interviews with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart from 2008

Former MTV reporter, Larry Carroll, was busy on twitter a couple of days ago and answered some fan questions about his infamous interviews with Rob and Kristen in 2008 during the filming of Twilight. His replies are italicized:
  • Did you notice a spark of something between Rob & Kristen when you first interviewed them on the twilight set back in '08? :): Yeah, the chemistry was undeniable. I remember each had a book on their chairs, next to each other. RPattz read Vonnegut. I was on set for 2 full days, and the only time they weren't together was when I did my 1-on-1 with Rob. They were VERY into building chemistry, barely knew each other then. To play such intimate characters for several movies they knew they had a lot of work to do. Both of them take acting very seriously, even then when relatively young. They'd share books, watch movies together, hit local clubs with other actors, etc. As soon as Catherine called "Cut!" they'd almost always head off together. I've interviewed each dozens of times, most recently for XBox at the BD1 premiere*. So glad they've come so far.
  •   If there is ever a remake of Last Tango In Paris, what would you think of Rob & Kristen playing the characters? lol: Would be very cool, since I unearthed that tidbit. But I know a lot of people whose heads would explode from the sexiness!
  • Hahaha, you gave us the BEST interview of Rob & Kristen ever! Sad there hasnt been many since! Can you see if you could possibly try & get a joint interview of those two for the final movie promo?: Was a lot easier in those day. I was the only one who cared. I remember explaining to other reporters what "Twilight" was. EW spelled Stephenie's name wrong, on set a lot of people thought the film would go straight-to-video. When I asked to visit the set they were kinda shocked. Said "how many days do you want to come up for?" Gave me full access, no embargo. That's extremely rare.
  • is their chemistry still the same now as it was in the beginning of Twilight? :): Better, I'd say. It's like real life, right? The more you know someone the easier it is to care about them - & portray that.
  • Did R or K seem equally enamored w/ ea other back then, or 1 more than the other? Or just getting to know ea other? Thx: I'd say they were equal. Although KStew definitely seemed to take the lead most of the time. She was the more experienced actor.

*Xbox interview was noted as being only with Kristen.

The 2008 Twilight interviews by MTV were pretty classic so let's take a trip down memory lane! Rob and Kristen before the mayhem. Also, it'll make you go "awwww" when you listen to Rob talk about his musical plans after Twilight. Amazing how much everything changed.

Larry's tweets didn't mention his solo Rob interviews but those produced Spunk Ransom. How can we not revisit 2008Rob?

Great memories. I can't wait to see what kind of interviews, photoshoots, mag covers and other surprises are planned for the end of an era.
