Robert Pattinson On Breaking Dawn, Berlin, Babies & More
Robert Pattinson spoke to BZ in Berlin about how the cool people in the Eastern part of Berlin, the end of Twilight, Family Planning, those sex scenes and MORE
FYI This interview is translated
The 4th segment of the 'Twilight' - Saga is opening in theaters. B.Z. has met Robert Pattinson before the Berlin premiere.
Is it just a PR-gag or are Kristen Stewart (21) and Robert Pattinson (25) a dream couple, even privately? At his Berlin visit for the premiere of 'Breaking Dawn', the 4th part of the 'Twilight'-vampire saga, Pattinson did not deny being with Kristen. Unfortunately she couldn't come herself, because she's currently shooting Snow White. Even if something, which the fans had waited long for, finally happens: The birth of their child. Privately however, Stewart and Pattinson are a long way from it, as he tells Markus Tschiedert in this interview.
Mr. Pattinson, you were in Berlin for the movie 'Water for Elephants' only in April. Doesn't the city get boring for you?
Not at all! I love Berlin and I've also been on holidays here a few times. The first time was when I was 18, which has been a while. I was especially impressed with the eastern part of the city because there were galleries everywhere and bands played for free. I don't know if it's still like that now, but you could do a lot with little money back then in Berlin.
Nowadays you probably won't be able to walk through the streets of "Berlin Mitte" and Prenzlauer Berg anymore without being recognized...
No, I haven't had that experience yet. If you know whereto, and I'm certainly not going to spill that now, people will let you be. Especially in the eastern part they're too cool to talk to me. [laughs] (Kate: More fool them LOL)
Even if the final installment of the 'Twilight'-saga is going to open in theaters next year, you've already wrapped. How hard was the farewell to you?
My last day of shooting was with Kristen in the Caribbean on the beach and in the sea, which was very pleasant. It was my first time ever to be in the Caribbean, so I treasure this memory.

Speaking with IndieWire, David Cronenberg gave an update about Cosmopolis and also complimented Rob's performance yet again:
It's torture that we have to wait a year. Torture. But I do think it'll perform at festivals. Watch out, fests! Your female attendence demographic is about to skyrocket and a certain film will be at capacity at each stop.

UPDATE: David also had much to say to New York Magazine:
What was it about Robert Pattinson that made you think he was the right guy for the lead?
He's the right age. He looks right. He looks good in a suit. He looks like he could be a young, tough, billionaire. And I've actually thought he was quite a good actor who was very underrated in a similar way to Keira Knightley, I think, when I was thinking of her for Dangerous Method. Both of them have had great financial success and are stars based on franchises, but of course to do that you have to have a kind of screen charisma, you have to have a presence, which you can't buy or create; you either have it or you don't. That doesn't mean you're necessarily a good actor, though. But you have at least that. I looked at all the stuff that he's done, and I thought he's a really good actor. And then I spoke to him, and thought not only that, but he's a really smart actor. And he's funny, and he's very sweet. That’s when I tried to convince him to do the movie, which he was a little afraid of, just because I think he doesn't know how good he is, basically. And I think now that he's done the movie, he's starting to understand how good he is. Because he's terrific.
And was he a fan of your work?
He knew my work, yeah. What's interesting, too, about Rob is that he's very well educated in terms of movies and movie history and foreign films. On the set, he and Juliette Binoche were talking about the most obscure French films and stuff like that together. He really knows his stuff. And yet, as I say, he's a completely down-to-earth, sweet guy. Lovely to work with. And very funny.
Are you going to go see Breaking Dawn?
I think I'll wait for the screener.
You're not going to go with the screaming fans?
Well, I don't feel the need to line up, let's put it that way. And I'm sure there's going to be big lines for it. But, you know, basically I know what Rob can do having worked with him. I don't have to see Twilight now. I certainly looked at the first two, though, when I was thinking about him.
You did?
Oh yeah, sure. And I watched Remember Me, and I watched Little Ashes. Which is maybe a movie you don't know, but he plays a young Salvador DalĂ in that movie with a Spanish accent. And I thought that was pretty interesting, very daring of him to do that, and it indicated to me that he was an interesting, serious actor.
And you were impressed with the work in the first two Twilights?
I was impressed with his screen presence and a lot of his stillness, and a lot of other things. But the other movies showed me he had range. He had the range that I wanted.

Speaking with IndieWire, David Cronenberg gave an update about Cosmopolis and also complimented Rob's performance yet again:
David Cronenberg, who received a career tribute just in time to promote "A Dangerous Method," told The Playlist that he was skipping out on the rest of awards season so he could spend the time finishing "Cosmopolis." "This isn't a criticism, but when you're making movies and being creative, you're not making movies to fit in awards season," he said. "It's a parallel universe, and sometimes those universes kind of intersect, but I'm going to run away and hide from all that. I'm going to Paris, and I won't be in the awards, I'll be happily in my new movie."
Cronenberg said he's finishing the sound mix in France because the film is financed as a Canada-France co-production. "The movie will be done sometime in January, but it won't be released for about a year, this time next year," he projected. "Robert Pattinson is brilliant in it." No word whether or not Cronenberg means the film won't be released theatrically or hit the festival circuit until next fall is unclear, so we'll just have to wait and see.
It's torture that we have to wait a year. Torture. But I do think it'll perform at festivals. Watch out, fests! Your female attendence demographic is about to skyrocket and a certain film will be at capacity at each stop.
