Comparing Rob and Leo

It's Robert Pattinson day at MTV.com :)

Is Robert Pattinson Pulling A Leo With ‘Little Ashes’?
By Nicole Guanlao

Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert Pattinson’s hotness levels on a scale of 1-10 are pretty even at about 15.2. I’m not a big fan of hotness comparisons, especially when dealing with these two actors, but RPattz’s transition on the big screen from swoon-worthy vampire with the perfectly messy hair to a haughty painter with a curlicue mustache in “Little Ashes” reminded me of Leo’s first post-Titanic career move.

We all remember him as dreamy Jack Dawson, and we all cried when he let go of Kate Winslet’s hand and sank deeper into the ocean. Most of all, I’m sure you remember buying every biography about him, going to see “Titanic” five more times in the theater and then eagerly buying the VHS. Sound familiar, Twilighters?

I was 11 years old when “Titanic” was released, and sadly, I’ve found that I have not grown up one bit as I swoon over RPattz with the same intensity (my co-workers and anyone who passes by my desk can vouch for this).

Leo followed up the mega-hit with “The Man in the Iron Mask,” in which he played King Louis XIV and his twin brother, Philippe. In this flick, Leo sported long locks, 18th-century attire and was a huge jerk. (Gozde: But he was a very pretty jerk! The long hair made him indistinguishable from the Christine who had really thick eyebrows :))When he wasn’t playing a womanizer, he wore a metal mask (boo!). Although I didn’t want to admit it at the time, I didn’t think Leo was very hot in this film, and I yearned for Jack. I wondered, “Where is the messy hair and the sweet smile?!?”

“I’ll never let go, Jack!” I cried.

I got the same feeling when I snuck a peek at Rob in “Little Ashes.” Don’t bite my head off, fellow Twilighters, because I still think Rob is a hottie in this film, but I don’t really think he’s H-O-T. I longed for Edward Cullen, but I guess I just have to learn that RPattz can’t be a sparkling vampire forever. Like Leo, Rob’s next character looks less swoon-worthy than his blockbuster counterpart and far from the perfect BF.(Gozde: I don't think this is a very good comparison. Leo played a pretty, albeit evil, king and his imprisoned twin was oh so innocent and, well, pretty. Rob is playing a very eccentric artist with a seriously unfortunate mustache:))

It looks like Rob and Leo’s careers are taking similar turns. They both starred in huge blockbusters that shoved them into the media spotlight, and they followed them up with more serious movies that are meant to show off their acting chops.(Gozde:News Flash! The man in the iron mask was a serious movie?!? Are we talking about the same movie? You know the one with 3 1/2 musketeers and Gérard Depardieu's naked ass (my retinas are still damaged from that)? :)) Of course, “Little Ashes” was shot before the release of “Twilight,” but I doubt it would be garnering such media attention if it weren’t for Rob’s recently acquired star power.

When “The Man in the Iron Mask” was first released, I remembered fans (i.e. me) exclaiming that this was the film that was going to show all those critics that Leo was more than just Jack Dawson. I remember arguing with my father and screaming, “He’s an actor, and he’s here to stay!”

Of course, I ended up being right, but I would’ve never walked into that theater to watch “The Man in the Iron Mask” if it weren’t for him. My crush on Leo meant that I would support him through the end and watch all his movies.

The same goes for RPattz. Many of you commented that it’s great that Rob took the role of Salvador Dalí, because it will show how great of an actor he is — and I hope you’re right! Hopefully, his acting skills will distract viewers from his Yosemite Sam mustache.

Leo’s career is a great one to mirror, and I hope Rob will be just as successful and respected in this industry. It also wouldn’t hurt if he remained just as H-O-T as Leo at age 34.(Gozde: Agreed. I just think you chose a wrong Leo movie to compare:))

P.S.: Sorry (Kim:)), I had no idea who Leo was before Titanic and I never thought he was HOT. I think he is a very very good actor though! I do. He is just not "I want to rip your clothes of" hot. :)

MTV Analyzes Rob's Spanish Accent

Okay moving on from the Dossier Pictures to saner topics 'cause we all need to preserve our mental health :))

From MTV.com's Larry Carrol:

Ever since the folks behind the upcoming film "Little Ashes" gave us a pair of exclusive clips to unveil earlier this week, the Web has been buzzing with Twilighter analysis of Robert Pattinson's Spanish accent.

But, as they'd be the first to admit, "Twilight" fans can be a bit biased when it comes to their beloved Spunk Ransom. With that in mind, we decided to take the issue straight to the professionals.

"I think it's a credible Spanish accent," praised Joel Goldes, a veteran dialect coach who has spent 18 years working with Nicolas Cage, Jim Broadbent, Jennifer Garner and other actors. Goldes said he was impressed by the London-born Pattinson. "I think if I didn't know his background, I wouldn't suspect anything."

"What I'm hearing is actually a mixture. I'm hearing a lot of his Americanisms that he learned," said accent coach Claudette Roche, saying that Pattinson's gig as Salvador Dalí is all the more difficult since co-star Javier Beltrán is from Barcelona. "Because he's working with Javier, who is Spanish, it's very contrasting. Javier has a very pure Spanish accent."

But despite the occasional encroachment of RPattz's American tendencies, acting coach Bruce Ducat (who has worked with teen idols like Alyson Michalka, Katie Cassidy and Amanda Bynes) said it shouldn't be enough to bother his core audience. "I think if I was one of the thousands of adolescent young women who are automatically his fans, I would buy it," he said, adding one caveat: "I think if he has to meet the scrutiny of people whose ears are tuned for accuracy, it may be 50/50."

"In the clip with the three guys (below) when he says, 'I expect so,' the way that he says 'so' is right on the money," Goldes said. "It's not English or American-sounding. It's not two sounds or two vowel sounds; it's just one. The 'oh' sound, that's exactly right."

"There is one thing he did that really struck me, and it is something he does as an Englishman well," said Roche, who is also British and has trained actors such as Lolita Davidovich. "I say, for example, 'I am going "ta" the store.' Like Americans, we don't say 'to,' we say 'ta.' And in one little clip, he says ['I need to go further'] without the 'ta.' People who learn English as a second language learn it properly, and a little word like 'to' is a hard thing for them not to say properly. So [someone like Salvador Dalí] would say, 'I am going "to" the store.' It's a hard thing for them to break.

"He obviously did a good job in 'Twilight,' because no one ever said anything about his American accent," Roche continued. "And he's adorable, so it doesn't matter — he could be mute, and he would still be fabulous."(Gozde: I have a feeling Roche would like our site :))

Tickets are now on sale through the "Little Ashes" Web site, so Twilighters will soon enough have their chance to check out Rob's accent in all its unedited glory. And according to Goldes, the clips show a young actor whose mastery of the international tongue could serve him well in the years to come.

"Certainly it sounds like he learned exactly what to do, and he's doing it well," the dialect coach said. "These are hard accents to get. It seems to me that he should be able to do just about whatever he wants to do in the future, in terms of accents."

Ted C. Talks about Little Ashes

A few clips have been released on MTV of Robert Pattinson in his upcoming anti-Twilight flick Little Ashes.

R. Pattz shot this movie before the vampire megahit, and as he has said on numerous occasions, pretty P doesn't want to be typecast as a heartthrob.

Well, he sure won't have to worry about that in this quasi-gritty movie 'cause Rob-babe plays a young Salvador Dali, a character with all kinds of gay tendencies.

So will the Robert obsessees follow this flick too? It's one helluva departure from their beloved Twi character. Or is it? (Gozde: Wake up and smell the older fans Ted. See Little Ashes Movement)

Seems like in the two clips, Pattz sort of moons, vacant-faced, through this one, too. Granted, what can you tell from a minute-long snippet of an entire film? We'll gladly give R the benefit of the doubt and check out his acting chops May 8.(Gozde: Pffffffffffft! (I know! I was in the debate team))

Either way, bravo to the kid for recognizing his need for diverse films from the get-go, so unlike counterpart Zac Efron, who totally backed out of Footloose way last minute.(Gozde: Another Zac comparison. Excuse me while I throw up)

Seriously though, this film is gonna put the Rob fangirls to the test. Will they be able to stand seeing their boy-toy kinda gayed up? Or is it Edward whom they are all really in love with. Opening weekend should be interesting!
