Blast from the Past: Robert Pattinson's Comic Con panels (2008-2011)
I can't help but feel like this Thursday, when Rob graces the stage at Hall H one last time for Twilight, it's the beginning of the end for this era in his career. PromoRob will be back to start the finish of his promotion of the Twilight Saga and Edward Cullen. The role and saga were life changing for Rob and for me. For us all, wouldn't you say? It gets me all emotional just thinking about how I became ROBsessed. *sigh* Anyway...I hope I don't get the DR all sappy but I bet we're going to be loads of sappy in the 2nd half of 2012 as we watch Rob, Kristen and Taylor say farewell to this beloved franchise.
Let's flash us back to all the panels from previous Comic Cons....2008, 2009 and 2011 :')

*NEW* Interview With Robert Pattinson From The "Cosmopolis" Berlin Press Junket
Have I told you how much I HATE dubbed interviews? Well I DO!
Why can't they use subtitles?
Anyway have fun with this one you can hear parts of it if you listen carefully.
One thing I can tell you is that they talk about sex and sex scenes and sex.
Of course THIS came into my mind ;-} and now I'll be humming it all day
Had to add this SUPER sexy toothpick action GIF Thanks to Manu
Now can you concentrate on the translation after that? {giggles}
Translation thanks to @Kris1787
I've just seen your movie.
Rob:Did you like it?
It's really crazy
Rob: It's pretty weird. It's pretty out there.
It's definitely no teenage movie
Rob: Yeah no. unless you are a really clever teenager or really interested in big limousines
In the movie there are many nude scenes. You have much sex with many different women. How was that?
Rob:Its strange. Half of the sex scenes was not planned to be sex scenes. They should take place after the sex. The script said: "They just had sex", but David said on the day: "You have sex now". All my preparations, all the work and the huge dialogue scenes that I've thought about, I could throw away.
Has you girlfriend Kristen seen the movie?
Rob:Yeah, yeah
How did you prepare her for all these scenes with all these different women?
Rob:The only problem is, when the movie isn't good. And then there is the question: "Why are you doing this? Why are you playing so many sex scenes in such a bad movie? If it's interesting and believable, then everything is okay."
When did you decide to make your relationship official?
Rob:To be honest. I don't talk about my relationship. Simply because I never did this. Since I started doing interviews. Cause I just don’t, I’ve been like it since the beginning

“Delillo’s words are like the bible”All 3 of these interviews are translated...you guys know the drill :)
With his new film, Cosmpolis, Robert Pattinson ventures to the abysses of the financial world. Cicero online talked to the ex-vampire about the lethargy of his generation, split personalities and pastry assassinations.
Mr. Pattinson, Eric Packer is leaving his aura, his limo, once and immediately he is attacked with a cake. Was there a similar moment in your career?
Strangely, I have shot a similar scene for "Water for Elephants". But otherwise, no, not that I know of. Maybe in a metaphorical sense ...
No aggressive paparazzi and overzealous fans?
No, no one dared to do that so far. Thank God, otherwise that would have had consequences.
How would you describe your character in the movie?
Eric Packer is a man who looks at the whole world very abstract, himself, his body, his fellow men. He shows egomaniacal characteristics and lives in his inner self, in a world in which actual reality doesn’t exist. Throughout the film, he finally tries to regain control of his body, of himself, until he gives up completely at the end.
What will remain to you of Eric Packer?
It's weird. I had to remember so much text and I thought these lines would disappear from my brain as soon as each scene is filmed. But the words are still there, I can still memorize the entire script. It sounds stupid, but there are times a day in which I quote passages from DeLillo, flawless. David (Cronenberg) always says: "It's like the Bible! There is a quote for every occasion! Somehow DeLillo's words are still stuck with me. Their meaning becomes more and more aware to me. Especially in the scene with Samantha Morton, as we talk about the future, there are passages that haunt me literally. (Tink: If he really said this, I totally relate. When you embrace the film, those words and passages stick with you long after and you do end up quoting them.)
Is this due to DeLillo's strong lyrical, poetic word formations?
Yes. I was unsure at first to accept the movie offer because I thought it would be extremely boring. Because basically, "Cosmopolis" is about people who are talking in a car – just that. One can easily miss the point in the movie. Either you follow DeLillo's words all the time, or you lose yourself in it, without knowing exactly what happens - then you are left with only a couple of nice pictures. David (Cronenberg) had so many strange ideas, things that at first I did not really understand. But if you’ll let yourself get involved with this, you'll see the whole picture! I've seen the film three times now. It was only the second time I could really get involved and I was just completely overwhelmed.
You say DeLillo's words haunt you. Did the the movie teach you something about life, about our times that you weren’t aware of beforehand?
Some things of political current affairs I haven’t thought about much while shooting, such as the Occupy-Wall Street movement . Then we did the protest scene: 200 extras rattled the limo, climbed onto the roof and tried with all their might to overturn the car. We sat there and focused on our dialogue - and it was so easy to ignore all this! You forget that 200 people are out there, just basically trying to kill you. That's insane! Every day we pursue similar scenes in the real world, watching TV. And you just have to turn it off and suddenly you forget what’s happening out there in the world. With Occupy thousands of people are fighting for a cause, and all their efforts have absolutely no effect on those against whom they protest. That's kind of scary. A few years ago I read a book about slavery. It described how brutal the slave owners have been to their slaves during daytime and at night they were talking about theology and God. Actually that shows that one and the same person can live in two completely different realities. While preparing for my role, I watched the interview between the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and his father. This is so sad. If you then imagine what Dahmer did you ask yourself how you can ever have pity with such a creature. In such moments your own emotional condition divides from the life story of the reality of this person.
Were you inspired by Jeffrey Dahmer for your role?
A little bit. Mainly I was looking for a voice. I watched Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer, and then found this Dahmer interview with his father. And coincidentally, at the end of the shoot it turned out that Paul Giamatti was watching exactly the same interview for his long final monologue.
Do you engage yourself politically?
Not in public. I form an opinion, but I’ll watch out for not telling people what to do. Maybe I just know too little to take responsibility for the actions of other people.
But you could still use your Twilight image to sensitize the younger generation for political and economic world events!
I don’t know. My generation shares this aggressive apathy, in which no one goes to the polls and at the same time they are irritated that everything slowly but surely loses significance. That’s ridiculous! People do make their own world! If I look at the Occupy phenomenon for example: Even if you don’t agree on the message itself or you can’t identify with the content, I think it's great that at least a few more people are getting involved.
Do you know anything of economy?
No.
What do you do with your money?
I hide it under the bed. Probably that's pretty stupid, but I don’t understand much of it. I just hope that I will be fine.
In the film Eric Packer seems very static. Basically, there are no changes in his facial expressions, gestures, or even in his own language, like a zombie, he moves through New York until he shoots himself in the hand at the end. Here you see a little humanity.
(Laughs embarrassed) It shouldn’t be like that with the static perception. Eric Packer's development takes place largely within him, very subtle. I think he is trying to be reborn.
And this slow, subtle development is also reflected in the slow-moving traffic and in the funeral ...
Exactly. He is like an iceberg - in the end he begins to break apart until nothing is left.
How critical are you with your own performance?
Very critical. This is the first film I've seen more than once, mainly because I was forced to. (Laughs) I had to watch it in Cannes and was not allowed to leave the room.
Did you want to leave?
For heaven's sake, yes! When I saw the movie for the first time, it was not quite ready yet. The second time I really liked it. And at Cannes, I didn’t watch it at all, I just watched the audience. With every cough, every clearing of the throat I thought: Oh my God, what does this mean? I’m always critical with my work, I mean, after all you want people to like what you are doing. After all that is the reason to make the next film.
Mr. Pattinson, thank you for your time!

Elle magazine (Brazil) translation:
He could have a huge ego. British actor Robert Pattnson is one of the highest paid in Hollywood - just in the last year, he earned $26,5M according to Forbes. The blue eyed guy has a legion of rabid fans, that follow him everywhere, and to add to that, he has been getting offers from acclaimed filmmakers. An example is the Canadian David Cronenberg, that directed him in Cosmopolis - the movie was in competition for the Palm D'Or in Cannes and will be released in Brazil in August. In person, however, Pattinson surprises for his humility and sense of humor. "All of a sudden, I left a ridiculous £500 paycheck and became a Hollywood star. And all of that happened without me proving anything." jokes the actor, that became famous all over the world with the Twilight saga, which started in 2008 and has made since then $2.5 billions.
Even after beating more that 3000 candidates for the part of the vampire Edward Cullen, Pattinson is the first to admit that the character never "demanded much effort". "The screenwriters did the best they could, but there isn't a lot to do when the guy never changes" says the actor, a lot more excited about what the movies brought to his life than making them. "I know that I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Twilight. But from now on I want to overcome my insecurities as an actor, even if it means to take risks and make mistakes."
The first part from this new phase is Eric Packer, the finance genius that he plays in Cosmopolis. Adaptated from Don DeLillo book, the futuristic drama follows the day of the ruthless billionaire that faces an existential crisis by putting his fortune in danger. With all the classic weirdness of a Cronenberg movie, most of the scenes are set inside a limousine, in which Pattinson's character gets many visits - including prostitutes, doctors and financial analysts. "I confess that, when I read the script, I thought about saying no to the offer. I didn't want to look like a coward, but I couldn't understand anything. I felt an enormous potential for failure, especially because my character talks nonstop", he says laughing. Fortunately, Cronenberg didn't care about the fact that the finance world didn't mean anything to Pattinson. The way that he felt alienated would work on his side - since his character isolates himself. "Only after, during filming, is when I understood that the script is about an absurd contention in the struggle for power. It's an apocalyptic story about capitalism."
During the movie, the protagonist reveals that deep down he's just trying to escape from himself - something that Pattinson can relate to. Since he became famous, the actor is chased by the media and fans. "I try not to think a lot about that and just do my job. My life is really weird. It's not as strange as my character's in Cosmopolis, but I feel just as claustrophobic as him sometimes.". Eric Packer even goes through a prostate exam in the limo. But the actor doesn't complain. At least Packer and his next roles go beyond the "good guy" of the story. "It's not easy to get around as the heartthrob for a long time. You need to be extremely self-confident, that's not my case. I don't think I'm attractive. I'm weird.", says Pattinson, that started acting when he was 15 at the Barnes Theatre Company to "meet girls".
In his current phase of acting in more cult projects, the actor plays in Bel Ami, based on the book by Guy de Maupassant, that will be released in Brazil in August, in the role of a seductive man with an obscure soul, that sleeps with women like Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas for money and power. In Mission: Blacklist, currently in pre-production, he's going to play Eric Maddox, who spearheaded the capture of Saddam Hussein. And in The Rover, also in pre-production, his character will be a mentally disturbed guy, that helps his brother in getting back a stolen car. (Tink: Guy Pearce's character has his car stolen by Rob's character and his brothers. Rob is left behind and helps Guy go after the car. Guy doesn't play Rob's brother.) "They are interesting parts for an actor like me, that still has a lot to learn."
Pattinson is also writing a script with his girlfriend, the actress Kristen Stewart, that he met during Twilight. "It's not for now. We're not going to hurry to work together again. We know it has to be a really great movie to explain a new partnership on screen. If not, they're going to crush us", he explains. He says he couldn’t have found a “more perfect” girl than Kristen. "She understands exactly how I feel. She is an ambitious woman who wants to grow as an actress. She has an excellent radar for what is good and challenges me constantly."
Named Robsten by the media – like Brangelina (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) – , the couple went through the emotion and the craziness of having a movie competing for the Palm D'Or at the latest Cannes Festival. He was competing with Cosmopolis, and she with Walter Salles’ On The Road. "Someone made a joke about us being adversaries, which would be insane.” Pattinson admits that he got "a little jealous" when Kristen told him about being at the French event – Cosmopolis' selection wasn't confirmed yet. "In the end, it was amazing to have each other’s support. Her presence at the gala screening of the movie made me really nervous. She was sitting in front of me. I kept looking at the back of her neck, trying to find out if she was liking the movie or not (laughs). I only relaxed when, at the end, Kristen told me she loved it.”
