NEW Details Revealed About Claire Denis’ 'High Life' Starring Robert Pattinson
The movie which also stars Patricia Arquette is set to shoot in Cologne in May.
The new details about the movie revealed by Screendaily are after the cut (for those that don't want to be spoiled!)
What can we say except WE ARE EXCITED!!
*SPOILERS* AFTER THE CUT
"Ever-Adventurous" Robert Pattinson's 2016 films make most anticipated lists (that aren't made by us ;)
As you know, for 2016, we're anticipating The Lost City of Z, The Childhood of a Leader, High Life, Good Time, The Trap and Queen of the Desert. Excellent stuff. Who's that actor in all those movies again? ROBERT PATTINSON. We can't wait. :)
The Playlist and Ioncinema are also anticipating some Rob films so maybe they can sit with us.
The Playlist completed their top 100 and 2 of Rob's films make the top 20. Quite the ranking. In the top 10 at #9, we have The Lost City of Z!
9. “The Lost City of Z”Director: James GrayCast: Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller, Tom Holland, Angus McfadyenSynopsis: A group of British explorers search for a colonel who goes missing trying to find a lost city somewhere in the Amazon. What You Need to Know: Although he frequently earns comparisons to his New Hollywood buddies Quentin Tarantino and Paul Thomas Anderson, it’s easy to forget that James Gray is only five films into an already-impressive career. “Little Odessa,” “The Yards” and “We Own the Night” are moody, classicist crime dramas indebted to the work of Sidney Lumet and Francis Ford Coppola, while “Two Lovers” and the mesmerizing “The Immigrant” respectively tackled the romantic melodrama and the grandiose period epic. His newest, “The Lost City of Z,” looks to be his biggest, most ambitious and perhaps strangest film yet. The unforgiving jungle locale hearkens back to the early, dangerous cinema of Werner Herzog, and something about the juicy-sounding premise evokes the naturalist brutality of Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” and the inarguable classic film the novel inspired, “Apocalypse Now,” which is one Coppola classic that Gray’s never borrowed from. As far as we’re concerned, Gray is five for five at this point, and we can’t wait to see what the director has up his sleeve with this epic-sounding drama.Release Date: Gray’s a favorite at Cannes, so if it's done in time, expect it there. And at #13, The Playlist is all about Rob's film with Claire Denis:
13. “High Life”They also gave a final and special shoutout to The Trap. It didn't get ranked because all is quiet on the waterfront for the film.
Director: Claire Denis (“Trouble Every Day,” “White Material”)
Cast: Robert Pattinson, Patricia Arquette, Mia Goth
Synopsis: A group of criminals agree to go on a suicide mission into space in the hope of finding alternate energy sources, and to take part in experiments in human reproduction.
What You Need To Know: If we could have guessed what arthouse queen Claire Denis would do next after the brutal “Bastards” from a few years ago, we wouldn’t have said ‘sci-fi starring R-Patz.’ And yet here we are, with Denis gearing up to shoot her first English-language movie, one excitingly penned by the great Zadie Smith and her partner, poet Nick Laird, with the ever-adventurous Pattinson and recent Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette starring. Though the subject matter is unusual for Denis, she’s never been afraid to play with genre, and it thematically should be up her street. In fact, the only reason this isn’t higher is that, depending on the amount of effects involved, it’s not entirely certain whether it’ll be ready for this year.
Release Date: Shooting begins shortly, and given that, “Bastards” aside, all of Denis’ recent movies premiered at Venice, that would be the best bet if it’s done in time.
Special Mention: We’re Not Sure If This Is Still Happening in 2016, But It’s Highly Anticipated If It IsIonCinema had their eyes on one thing and one thing only - The Lost City of Z. #3 out of 25 Most Anticipated Studio Films:
“The Trap”
Director: Harmony Korine (“Trash Humpers,” “Spring Breakers”)
Cast: Idris Elba, Benicio Del Toro, Robert Pattinson, Al Pacino, James FrancoSynopsis: A gangster rapper is targeted by an ex-con recently released from prison.
What You Need To Know: As far as candidates for mainstream crossover status go, we’d have had indie world enfant terrible Harmony Korine fairly low on the list, and yet “Spring Breakers” proved to be a substantial hit in 2013, proving the eternal appeal of James Franco, as well as young women partying in swimsuits. It’s taken a little time for Korine to follow it up, but “The Trap” could end up making even more of a splash —if it’s still happening, as word’s been very quiet since the summer. A crime thriller, the director called it “sensory bombardment… a super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie,” which sounds alright by us. He’s got a great cast lined up (assuming everyone’s still involved: schedules change, and if it is keeping to the original plan, it would clash with Benicio Del Toro’s “Star Wars” shoot), and we can’t wait to see what kind of bonkers fever dream he cooks up this time. If we were 100% sure that this was definitely going to be released this year, it’d undoubtedly be in our top five.Release Date: The film was supposed to get before cameras this month. Assuming that holds, it could be ready for a Venice premiere, as “Spring Breakers” did.
Next, we have another long gestating project, The Lost City of Z from the consistently underrated James Gray. He’s now finally in post-production on the Paramount production which stars Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson in a film inspired by British explorer Perceval Fawcett’s ill-fated attempt to discovering the fabled kingdom of El Dorado. Gray adapts himself from a book by David Gunn, and considering his acclaim in France (his last four films have all competed for the Palme d’Or at Cannes), this may be the rare studio feature that makes the cut in 2016. (Paramount Pictures – Release: TBD)We can't wait for those and ALLLLLLL of them!
MOVIE NEWS: Patricia Arquette Joins Robert Pattinson in Claire Denis' 'High Life'
Screendaily reports that Patricia Arquette has joined Rob in the cast of Claire Denis' High Life.
I would imagine Rob is super excited about this casting seeing as he's a long time fan of hers ;)
Gotta love Patricia's reaction to hearing a young Rob had a crush on her! Can't wait to see her and Rob in this movie together.
From Screendaily:
EXCLUSIVE: Oscar-winner joins sci-fi alongside Robert Pattinson, Mia Goth.Read More over at Screendaily
Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette (Boyhood) has joined Robert Pattinson (Twilight) and Mia Goth (The Survivalist) in the cast of Claire Denis’ anticipated untitled sci-fi, written by UK novelist Zadie Smith (White Teeth) and Smith’s writer husband Nick Laird.
Denis’ English-language debut, due to shoot next year, is understood to follow a group of skilled criminals who, in a bid to escape their long sentences or capital punishment, accept a likely-fatal government space mission to find alternative energy sources.
The project, which ScreenDaily first reported in June, marks an intriguing change of direction for the White Material and Beau Travail writer-director.
The story is based on an original idea by Denis and her regular writing partner Jean-Pol Fargeau, and is due to go into production early next year.

Grazie Magazine Says Robert Pattinson Denies Romance with Kristen Stewart - UPDATED
I got an email with a "heads up!" message from Loisada, she said:
There's an interview in Grazia Magazine that's going to start a new FIRESTORM, because it contains a clear romance denial. It says it took place at the Nov 6 press meet, but is extremely long for those short meetings....As to the legitimacy of Grazia, it's an international fashion weekly/tabloid with outlets around the globe. Fairly reputable source. The article also has two writers: one a French speaker and the other appears to be an English speaker.
So with saying that here's the translation from Loisada. Thanks girl!
Keep in mind that this interview has been translated from English to French than back to English. I would also like to add that it's very strange how ONLY some international magazines got an answer for this...I personally do not think he answered the question that way...He's been avoiding that answer like plague...
Oh and once again: I am dedicating this song to everyone that freaks out whenever Rob and ANY girl is mentioned :)
My motto: "If he is not shagging me I don't care who he shags". Adopt the motto, you'll be happier :))
*Gozde ducks out, have fun :))*

Robert Pattinson
“I’ve been dumped without any explanation.”
The success of Twilight has made him a sex symbol of the 2000s. But as the second movie in the series hits screens, the young Brit is eager for just one thing: putting the celebrity, the disheveled hair and the contact lenses behind him!
On this November 6th morning, the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills looks more like a gilded prison than a palace. Ever since Robert Pattinson turned up here to give a round of interviews, the hotel has been cloaked in a security system worthy of a Head of State: ten guards watch over all the entryways, while upstairs, where the actor is meeting the press, a team of bodyguards serves as the welcoming committee. A tad overdone, this security setup? Not really. Since he stepped in to play the hero of Twilight, Robert Pattinson has become one of the most hounded men on the planet. Wherever he goes, a throng of paparazzi and fans camp out in front of his hotel trying to get a glimpse of him. They hope to catch a smile or the tiniest ambivalent gesture towards his partner Kristen Stewart (a few days later, photos of the couple brushing hands in Paris will set the Web afire). Since the 2008 release of the first of four movies inspired by Stephenie Meyer’s best sellers, the Robert Pattinson craze has rivaled the sensations sparked by the Beatles and Leonardo DiCaprio in his Titanic days. Thousands of girls are smitten with the actor who plays Edward Cullen, the handsome eternally 17-year-old vampire with the alabaster skin who is hopelessly in love with a human girl. And the release of New Moon, the second movie in the series, will only make matters worse. And yet “Rob” doesn’t look at all like a lady-killer: smiling and rather reserved, he’s a hot-looking guy on the shy side. He considerately offers us a glass of water, then says “Bonjour, ca va?” in perfect French, before adding in English: “Don’t ask me your questions in your language, or we’ll be here all day.” Too bad, Rob, we would have gladly done just that!
Q: You’ve said there are a lot of similarities between New Moon and your own life? Can you give us some examples?
RP: In the beginning, Edward, my character, leaves Bella without any explanation, because he thinks it’s best for her. We’ve all made that kind of mistake. I’ve broken up with a girl before because I was convinced it wouldn’t work out, and I’ve been dumped without any explanation. In short, just like what happens in New Moon.
Q: Which vampire power would you like to have?
RP: Being able to disappear... for obvious reasons!
Q: You’re considered one of the world’s sexiest men, adored by thousands of fans. Leonardo DiCaprio has even said: “finally there’s someone to take the burden off me.” Is all this fame a burden for you?
RP: Nobody’s given me an instruction manual for dealing with it. I kind of stumbled into it by chance. When Twilight first became a hit, people on the street would call me Edward. I think they’re fascinated with the character, not me. It’s true that I can’t move around as freely these days. I can’t go out alone anywhere I might be recognized. A lot of the time I feel like a nocturnal animal, blinded by the headlights of a car about to run over me. But I refuse to complain about what’s happening to me. I just have to hunker down and let a few years go by. I know this craze will eventually die down. Then I’ll be able to look back and say I lived through some extraordinary things.
Q: What’s the craziest thing a fan ever asked you to do?
RP: The first time a girl asked me to bite her neck, I thought it was funny. She was completely serious; she wanted me to sink my teeth into her....
Q: Has all the hysteria ever gotten to be too much?
RP: I was leaving a beach, at the Cannes Festival, and found myself facing a big swarm of people. The bodyguards had to lift me up over the crowd, to get me to my car. It was surreal... but I’d rather just laugh it off.
Q: So what does draw you out of your lair, despite it all, make you willing to brave the hordes of fans?
RP: Discovering a foreign country. I’d like to take a trip to Vietnam. Maybe I could explore the beauties of Asia on a motorbike, with a rucksack. But I haven’t mentioned that to anybody but you, so keep it hush, so I can travel in peace. (laughs)
Q: What do you do when you’re not filming, or doing an interview, or trying to escape your groupies?
RP: I sleep! I work nonstop, and I’m a pretty shy guy, so I prefer the peace and quiet of my hotel room to a night out in a club.
Q: Are you working on other projects?
RP: I make myself do different movies between every Twilight shoot, because it’s a relief to go back to being a normal guy. That’s why I wanted to do Remember Me (editor’s note: set for release in February 2010) (Gozde's note: It's been pushed to March 2009)in the beginning of the summer. It’s the story of two lovers who try and save their relationship while grappling with family tragedies. I insisted they let me shoot it without make-up. I could finally touch my face and express my feelings without a mask covering my skin. Just be myself.
Q: Apparently you’re not allowed to cut your hair until all the Twilight shoots are over. A bit frustrating?
RP: Hair gel is the greatest modern-day invention! (laughs) It lets me keep Edward’s hairdo, or flatten down my hair if I want. Do I ever dream of just shaving my head? Of course!
Q: You and Kristen Stewart call yourselves “good friends.” What kind of bond do you share?
RP: We’ve both been living through this great Twilight adventure from day one, that alone makes us close. No one can really understand what we’ve been going through over this past year. When we’re together, we’re on the same wavelength, without having to say a word.
Q: To wrap up, the question everybody is wondering about... Are you in love?
RP: No. I don’t have time to have a girl in my life, anyway. I hop from one plane to the next. Nobody could stand sharing the life of a guy who’s always gone. For right now, I’m focused on my career. Love will come later... or by surprise.(Gozde: Uh...oh.... #DebateTillYouDie...Don't fight though and no Kristen bashing please :) Don't bash the translator either, other people read and translated it the same way. You can go ahead and bash the magazine if you'd like:))
Q: Who’s your ideal woman?
RP: Patricia Arquette in True Romance.(Gozde: We have so much in common! My ideal man (besides you of course) is Brad Pitt, not his character in True Romance though , he was a loser :))
Q: Will you take anything of Edward away with you, after Twilight?
RP: No. And the first thing I dream of doing is burning these damned tinted contacts. Every day on the set, they’re absolute torture!

*NEW* Robert Pattinson Interview with Vikend (Slovenia)
The interview is from Vikend's(Slovenia) Nov 28th issue
Robert Pattinson, New Moon
Robert Pattison:I Don’t Even Think I’m a Real Man Yet :)
It's an exclusive from Nieuwsblad.be. Thanks to Pinklien for the translation :)
Robert Pattinson: “Some fans scare me”
(Exclusive interview)
Everywhere he appears, teenage girls start screaming. And he didn’t even bite them. A conversation with teen idol Robert Pattinson, alias the vampire Edward Cullen from Twilight.
It’s been since Leonardo DiCaprio that an actor has been so intensely worshipped as Robert Pattinson. Thousands of girls (an older women) everywhere would love to have Edward bite them – Robert Pattinson in real life, R-Pattz for his fans.
How do you deal with all the media-craziness? There are books about your life-story, and you aren’t even dead yet. (bit weird to say IMO)
RP: Yes, I saw that there are 7 unauthorized biographies, and they all start at my 20th. I think Im dealing with it as good as possible. The past year, I have been working non-stop so the biggest Twilight craziness passed me by. My life and Twilight, it are 2 separate things.
Being famous is a lifestyle, but Im only a foetus in that celebrity-world. Im better at it than in the beginning, but I would hate it if there would be people hanging around my house for the rest of my life. It would drive me crazy. Why do people want a picture of me and them at all costs? I don’t get that. I think of myself as boring.
How different was shooting New Moon in comparison with the first part?
RP: Very different. With the first movie, there were a lot of people all pulling in a different direction. The studio wanted to create a basis for a franchise, because it had already been settled that it would be a trilogy. The bosses thought the movie had to appeal to as much people as possible. Director Catherine Hardwicke had made a lot of independent movies and she sometimes was like an unguided projectile, she had so much energy. Kristen and I had our own ideas about the characters and we both are rather stubborn.
But the mega success of the first movie has made everyone more calm. We are less insecure. The studio bosses know that we are going to make the right decisions. We also have Chris Weitz as the new director. He’s very calm and got everyone ready very fast. We have all worked so hard.
Have you seen New Moon a few times yet?
RP: Once. I still think it’s a torture to see myself on the big screen. But this time it wasn’t a punishment. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it. That hadn’t happened since the beginning of my career.
Don’t you think it’s frightening to see how obsessed some fans are?
RP: Definitely. When the Twilight hype broke out, I sometimes had visions of my getting stabbed by a crazy fan. Those crowds at premieres… Im not at ease. When we were shooting New Moon in Vancouver, some fans would be out there for 3 days in a row, good or bad weather. At times like that, your instinct tells you: that is a weirdo and your imagination runs wild. But mostly it’s not so bad when you go and talk to that person.
Twilight is just my job, but for a fan, it’s something they desperately want to be a part of. Is that wrong? Im not so sure anymore. A fan is a fan, that’s all. It just takes a while before you get used to the fact that what you do, gets appreciated by people.
Have you ever been a fan of someone?
When I first saw ‘One flew over the cuckoo’s nest’, I was 16 and that movie has influenced me so much. I even started to dress like Jack Nicholson. That period lasted for a long time. I also had a thing for Patricia Arquette. But I don’t think that any of that has influenced my work. (laugh)
In New Moon, the young Taylor Lautner plays a wolf, Jacob. What did you think when you saw his muscles?
RP: That I needed to hit the gym stat. (laugh) No, I think it’s ok. It’s funny: for some reason, when you’re an actor in a teen movie, they expect you to have a six pack. So when I see a guy that meets every expectation of a teenage girl, I do get a complex yeah. Actually, that was perfect to get into my role. I now know the feeling of having to prove myself against someone younger than me.
You have a great connection with Kristen, that isn’t a secret. But in this movie, there’s also a lot of chemistry between her and Taylor. Were you jealous?
RP: No. In New Moon, we only have like 3 scenes with the three of us. I barely had the chance to be jealous. When I had to work, Taylor wasn’t around because Bella and Jacobs story line was developing without me. In Eclipse, the third movie, which we wrapped a while ago, it’s totally different. There’s a lot more interaction between the characters. Taylor and I were teasing each other the whole time.
This time, Taylor is the leading man. Does that take some pressure off your shoulders?
RP: Asolutely. I keep on saying this is Taylors movie. Im not the lead role. He’s fully responsible and that’s a win-win situation. If it’s a flop, I can always say that it’s because Im in it less. (laugh)
What’s next on your agenda?
RP: It has been a weird year. I have been working non-stop, with 4 days off at the most. First there was New Moon, then Eclipse. I was pretty relieved when we could wrap at the end of October. I finally got to sleep in. But we didn’t get much rest, with the promo tour for New Moon coming up. In February I will go to Budapest to shoot Bel Ami. Not with Nicole Kidman, as reported first. Im not allowed to say who it is yet. Ive also signed on for Unbound Captives, a romantic drama with Rachel Weisz. But chances are that before all that, I'm expected on the set of the forth Twilight movie.
Megan Fox is the most beautiful woman in the world and she said that title has made her shy. What do you think of the fact that some magazines call you the most sexy man on the planet?
RP: God, I don’t even think I’m a real man yet (laugh)

Scotsman Magazine Interview with Robert Pattinson
By James Mottram
As I arrive for my interview with Robert Pattinson, the air is awash with hormones. Hordes of autograph book-brandishing adolescents have gathered on the street, desperate to catch a glimpse of the British-born star. We are in Cannes, where Pattinson has jetted in to promote New Moon, the sequel to last year's teen vampire sensation Twilight.
After pushing my way through the crowds, I'm ushered down some steps to a beachside restaurant where Pattinson is just finishing off another interview. The moment he leaves his chair hysteria breaks out as the pubescent pack looking down from street level spy their heartthrob.
Even by the standards of Pattinson's last year, which has seen him go from a relative unknown to a massive star, this is something else. "It's embarrassing, doing interviews," he confides when he sits down in another chair out of view and the cries subside. "I've never really done this before – people screaming in the background. Except at a premiere." You'd think he'd be used to the attention by now. Even before Twilight was released, taking nearly 400 million in cinemas around the world, girls were leaving notes under the windscreen wipers of his car. By the time he toured a series of shopping malls to promote the film, it had morphed into something akin to Beatlemania as girls fainted, screamed and asked him to bite them. Not even Brad Pitt gets that kind of attention.
Admittedly, this sort of adulation was always on the cards. Stephenie Meyer's quartet of Twilight books has already proved a literary sensation to rival JK Rowling's Harry Potter franchise. The most recent book, Breaking Dawn, sold a staggering 1.3 million copies on its first day of publication. And with the novels primarily aimed at teenage girls, it's Pattinson – who plays Edward Cullen, the impossibly handsome vampire from a family of neck-biters – who attracts most of the fans. His co-star Kristen Stewart – who plays Bella Swan, the mortal Edward falls for – must be relieved. "You do tend to start getting a little bit paranoid about stuff," Pattinson confesses, shrinking further into his chair, "looking around when you're walking down the street, in case you get mobbed by teenage girls!"
Robert Pattinson Talks About Gaining Weight For Bel Ami, Riding Bareback For Unbound Captives :)
The boy in the bubble
The Twilight juggernaut is propelling the 23-year-old British actor to the heights of mega stardom and, having previously only played minor roles, most notably as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, he is making the most of it.
The small independent movie, Remember Me, was able to go ahead as the result of his casting and Pattinson is now in Unbound Captives, a western set in 1859, where the world's sexiest youngster gets to act alongside the "Sexiest Man Alive", Hugh Jackman. (Kate:Less of the youngster please, Rob is all man!)
"The Twilight fans are so devoted, even fanatical, that I'm now able to do so many films," Pattinson says. "The economy is just so bad at the moment. I don't care if they think I'm right for the part or not. I can get their movie made, which is great."
The trim actor says what has happened to him has been "pure luck." After all, handsome Henry Cavill, who made a dashing impression in TV's The Tudors as Henry's friend, the Duke of Suffolk, had been Twilight author Stephanie Meyer's original choice to play Edward Cullen, the lovelorn vampire who falls in love with the human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart).
But Cavill was too old by the time the blockbuster movie went ahead and Pattinson won the role instead. "I never set out to achieve anything, certainly not fame like this," he admits. "I still have to deal with how to actually make my life work."

Robert Pattinson: 'I Couldn't Live Without Music'
22-year-old Brit says music is an important part of his life
By Samantha Chang
Twilight star Robert Pattinson has become an overnight celebrity since starring as the alluring Edward Cullen in the hit vampire romance.
Adding to Rob's own mystique is the fact that the actor has not been seen publicly since Dec. 22, when he jetted to London for the Christmas holidays. But his absence has only made his legions of young fans even fonder of him.
Fortunately for them, international media interviews have recently been released providing some interesting insights into the British heartthrob's introspective personality. In a new interview with Quebec's Le Samedi magazine, Pattinson, 22, discusses what drew him to the Edward Cullen character, what he finds appealing in the opposite sex and his enduring love of music.
Pattinson, who sounds like a bit of a contrarian, says he was drawn to Edward because of the brooding vampire's fringe status. "Outsiders are always seductive, or at least fascinating," he says. "You can see why they're alone and can't integrate themselves into groups."
[Editor's note: Samedi doesn't have a website, so we were unable to link to the interview, which is in French; we have translated some key excerpts and pasted a partial scan below.]
Ironically, Twi—which began as a teen cult phenomenon—has mushroomed into full-blown mainstream popularity. So far, the tiny indie flick has grossed an astonishing $284 million worldwide since its Nov. 21 U.S. release.
A sequel, New Moon (2009), will begin shooting in March, and will be filmed back-to-back with Eclipse (2010), the third installment in the best-selling Twilight book series.
As previously reported, the self-deprecating Pattinson initially was intimidated by the idea of playing Edward, who is described as unspeakably beautiful—an Adonis. "I really liked Edward's personality but I asked myself if I was indeed the right actor for the role," Rob recounts. "He is described as being a rare beauty, and that's not what I see in my mirror every morning."
Despite his global popularity, Pattinson says he is unattached at the moment. "Je suis toujours célibataire," he says. [I'm still single]. But what does he find attractive? "Like everyone else, I'm attracted to girls who have a head on their shoulders. The other day I was watching 30 Rock and I was charmed by the quirky Tina Fey," says Rob. "Rarely have I seen a woman so sexy."
But Rob has other celebrity crushes as well. "I'm not immune to the sex appeal of the three Jessicas (Simpson, Alba and Biel). And I'm really fascinated by the grace and beauty of Natalie Portman."
Pattinson—who says he was once infatuated with actresses Patricia Arquette, Elizabeth Shue and Dana Delaney (all age 40 or older)—likes all types of women. "Age matters little to me, and as I said before, I don't have a specific type," he says.
But Pattinson's true love is music. When asked what career path he would've chosen had he not become an actor, Rob is unequivocal in his reply. "I would've become a pianist," he says. "I play three instruments, I sing and I write songs."
Indeed, Pattinson, who wrote two songs on the Twi soundtrack, is intoxicated by music. "I always say that if acting is my first love, music would've been my Plan B for becoming famous," he says. "That may sound a bit pretentious, but it's true. Music occupies a very important place in my life. I couldn't live without music."

The Electric New Paper Singapore #2
It's no wonder that women - from teenage girls to their mothers - all over the world are literally throwing themselves at Robert Pattinson.
The 22-year-old has become Hollywood's latest 'It' boy, thanks to his role as Edward Cullen, the mysterious and sexy vampire in the fantasy romance Twilight.
Yet, during a round-table interview with The New Paper at the posh Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills last month, the 1.85m-tall Londoner seemed as meek as a mouse.
And he appears unfazed at being the idol of thousands of teenage fans.
Surely, amid his throng of female admirers, there has to be someone who fits his type?
'They're all pretty young,' Pattinson, who is single, said somewhat sheepishly.
Even mums love Twilight
'I don't really have a 'type', but I like smart people. You know, I really like (comedienne-actress) Tina Fey. She is, like, the sexiest woman.'
He also admitted having crushes on actresses Patricia Arquette and Elisabeth Shue at one point.
Looks like he does have a 'type' - older women.
The brown-haired actor with piercing blue-grey eyes added: 'I never really considered myself attractive, really. I was always kind of gangly in school.'
He appeared to be quite baffled by the heartthrob label and confessed he does not even watch his own movies.
He made his movie debut in an uncredited role in Mira Nair's Vanity Fair opposite Reese Witherspoon and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. This was followed by a handful of made-for-TV movies.
But if he looks familiar, here is a memory trigger: You probably saw him in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, playing the dreamy but doomed Quidditch team captain Cedric Diggory from the Hufflepuff house.
Pattinson said: 'I don't really like watching my stuff. It makes me feel sick. You imagine you look a certain way in your head, and when it looks even the slightest bit different from what you imagine, you go, 'Rubbish!'.
'I'm pretty self-critical.'
Which such self-consciousness, it is hard to imagine how Pattinson can handle the sudden stardom.
Especially since the role of Edward in Twilight is a heavy burden to bear, given the amount of speculation and anticipation that preceded it.
Protective female fans who had read the books had fantasised extensively over who should play the role ever since the movie adaptation was announced.
That Pattinson, largely an unknown, was cast in the lead role raised the audience's expectations of him.
Co-star Stewart, an unknown herself, thinks Pattinson was the right choice.
She told The New Paper in a separate interview: 'I think what makes him so appealing is that he's so sympathetic.
'During the audition, he was organically feeling the pain and fear of what his character was going through. I think that's why girls love him.
Intense
'He's just a really intense guy. He was the one guy that came into the audition not obviously pre-occupied with what he looks like. He looked terrified when he came into the audition.'
Over 5,000 actors auditioned for the role of Edward and at first, when director Catherine Hardwicke saw a picture of Pattinson, she was unimpressed.
True enough, at our interview, Pattinson's signature tousled tresses looked like he had styled them after The Simpsons character Sideshow Bob's triangular hairdo.
If you are thinking that mothers cannot possibly approve of their young daughters plunging themselves into a novel that supports such strong desires - especially with someone who is more than a century old - think again.
First, the book's writer Meyer is a mum.
Second, there is an entire website dedicated to mums who love Twilight.
The movie's screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg said: 'Twilight is a romance between a girl and the ultimate unavailable boy - a vampire.
'Anyone who has been a 17-year-old girl knows what it's like to see that wonderfully mysterious and unavailable boy across the room and just feel that longing.'
And if that boy is Pattinson, who wouldn't? Or rather, who hasn't?
The actor has reportedly been mobbed, stalked and proposed to by teenage girls and their mothers (no joke) even before the movie premiered.
Besides his knack of not becoming self-absorbed despite all the attention, Pattinson's down-to-earth work ethic would also win the approval of many mums.
The hardworking actor spent two months before the shoot alone in cold Oregon, completely in self-imposed isolation to discover what it was like to feel the same loneliness that his character would have felt (vampires being the outcasts they are).
Pattinson said almost apologetically: 'Even when the cast first came up, I didn't talk to anyone about anything personal for, like, the first month of the shoot, only about the movie and character.
'They thought I was weird. But it kind of works.'
He continued impassionedly, raising his voice for the first time during the interview: 'Even if it's just a teen film, it should be done at the level where it's worthy of an award.
'I hate the idea of being part of a movie that is just cashing in on the book.'
Passionate, check. Talented, check. He plays the piano and guitar, composes music and has his own rock band - check, check and check, plus grab and 'chope'.
Philstar.com Robert Pattinson: Almost famous
For Robert Pattinson, being cast as Edward Cullen — the most devastatingly handsome vampire in the whole world, the answer is quite obvious, “it feels like my own opinion is completely validated now,” he jokes.
The STAR met with the strikingly handsome actor recently in Beverly Hills to talk about the movie, his character, his sudden popularity, his fans and how he prepared for the greatest role of his young career. The jovial actor would break into sheepish smiles and hearty laughter every so often during the interview.
“I had an idea how to play the part and people will like it or they won’t like it. You can’t convince everybody, you just do what you think is right and accept the consequences.”
“It was written to be aesthetically pleasing but I wanted to interpret having a six-pack as a character and so I thought I’d lose every ounce of body fat I had. In the end I felt like I looked like an alien,” he reveals and lets out a loud laugh.
He regrouped, started thinking about his character, gained back a few pounds and was so relieved to be talking with people again. “I am too self-critical. I used to give myself a hard time, that’s why Catherine had a hard time with me,” he says with a grin.
“Kristen gets very into the part,” Robert adds. “I trusted that and it was really good. She has to put up with a lot from me. It was ridiculous. I don’t think very many actresses would put up with it. I spent every day dissecting every single little lines — I even dissected her lines! We definitely had a strong bond over it.”
The two stars’ little fights would soon be replaced by constant flirting. Entertainment Weekly noted that the producers, at one point, were actually worried that their two main stars were actually falling in love.
Were the reports true that Robert actually proposed marriage to Kristen? “Yes, he did that,” Kristen acknowledges, “but I am not sure if he was serious.”
Asked about it, Robert laughs and reveals that he actually has proposed to countless women and on the day of our interview some are even sending him text messages asking him if their wedding is still on.
Wedding proposals or not, the actor has a lot more to worry these days. He has become the hottest heartthrob in town and is on the verge of becoming a major Hollywood star. “I think you can control it in a way if you are careful. I have been pretty much an idiot my whole life and it’s a little daunting to change your lifestyle from being an idiot into not being an idiot but I think it’s a good thing,” he quips. “I think I have to think about being more responsible and less reckless now.”
How about girls running after him now?
“Well it’s nice but they’re all pretty young,” he remarks.
But there are other older womenwho love him.
“Yeah, they tell me that ‘there are Twilight moms who love you’ and I can’t take that too seriously,” he says, “’Edward breaks up the Twilight family’ — that would be too funny.”
Was he ever the pretty boy in school?
“Not really. I didn’t play sports or anything. I used to be like kind of gangly. I used to play music but it wasn’t like a rock band because there was a lot more improvisation.”
Girls young and old would rejoice knowing that Robert is not in a relationship at the moment. The 22-year-old actor shares that he is attracted to smart women. “I was watching 30 Rock the other day and I really like Tina Fey, she is like the sexiest woman!”
(Gozde's note: Hey Rob! I have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, you know I'm just sayin' ;))
Celebrity crushes are one thing that the good-humored actor is trying to keep to himself. “You tell people who your celebrity crush is hoping not to bump into them in the future so you always want to think of the right one to say. I used to say I liked Elisabeth Shue until I realized that she is like 50 now.” He corrects himself later and asserts that it was actually Patricia Arquette, during her True Romance days, which he had a crush on. “I can have a type on anyone,” he says.
He likens Edward’s loneliness to the 80-year-old protagonist in Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s novel Memories of a Melancholy Whore. “I like love stories between old people. I wanted to make Twilight more about that,” he emphasizes. “I always liked relationships that are like a nightmare, like you would have to fight for something — I can relate to that. I guess I am crazy that way.”
Robert considers Los Angeles his current home. He hasn’t been back to his native London in a while. “I have lived here for a few months. I’ve only been to London for a total of not more than 10 days this year. I really want to go back but I don’t like flying. I always think I am gonna die on a plane.”
Playing a vampire has somehow made him more fearful of death. “But I think I am just a paranoid person,” he reiterates. “I am scared in the back of cabs now. I think I am gonna die in a cab. I even get scared when I am driving.”
And he does not wish to live forever, either. “I guess I am more afraid of living forever than not being able to kill myself than dying,” he says with a little serious note in his voice.
