"Ever-Adventurous" Robert Pattinson's 2016 films make most anticipated lists (that aren't made by us ;)

 photo coolstuff.gif
As you know, for 2016, we're anticipating The Lost City of Z, The Childhood of a Leader, High Life, Good Time, The Trap and Queen of the Desert. Excellent stuff. Who's that actor in all those movies again? ROBERT PATTINSON. We can't wait. :)

The Playlist and Ioncinema are also anticipating some Rob films so maybe they can sit with us.

The Playlist completed their top 100 and 2 of Rob's films make the top 20. Quite the ranking. In the top 10 at #9, we have The Lost City of Z!
9. “The Lost City of Z”Director: James GrayCast: Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller, Tom Holland, Angus McfadyenSynopsis: A group of British explorers search for a colonel who goes missing trying to find a lost city somewhere in the Amazon. What You Need to Know: Although he frequently earns comparisons to his New Hollywood buddies Quentin Tarantino and Paul Thomas Anderson, it’s easy to forget that James Gray is only five films into an already-impressive career. “Little Odessa,” “The Yards” and “We Own the Night” are moody, classicist crime dramas indebted to the work of Sidney Lumet and Francis Ford Coppola, while “Two Lovers” and the mesmerizing “The Immigrant” respectively tackled the romantic melodrama and the grandiose period epic. His newest, “The Lost City of Z,” looks to be his biggest, most ambitious and perhaps strangest film yet. The unforgiving jungle locale hearkens back to the early, dangerous cinema of Werner Herzog, and something about the juicy-sounding premise evokes the naturalist brutality of Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” and the inarguable classic film the novel inspired, “Apocalypse Now,” which is one Coppola classic that Gray’s never borrowed from. As far as we’re concerned, Gray is five for five at this point, and we can’t wait to see what the director has up his sleeve with this epic-sounding drama.Release Date: Gray’s a favorite at Cannes, so if it's done in time, expect it there.
And at #13, The Playlist is all about Rob's film with Claire Denis:
13. “High Life”
Director: Claire Denis (“Trouble Every Day,” “White Material”)
Cast: Robert Pattinson, Patricia Arquette, Mia Goth
Synopsis: A group of criminals agree to go on a suicide mission into space in the hope of finding alternate energy sources, and to take part in experiments in human reproduction.
What You Need To Know: If we could have guessed what arthouse queen Claire Denis would do next after the brutal “Bastards” from a few years ago, we wouldn’t have said ‘sci-fi starring R-Patz.’ And yet here we are, with Denis gearing up to shoot her first English-language movie, one excitingly penned by the great Zadie Smith and her partner, poet Nick Laird, with the ever-adventurous Pattinson and recent Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette starring. Though the subject matter is unusual for Denis, she’s never been afraid to play with genre, and it thematically should be up her street. In fact, the only reason this isn’t higher is that, depending on the amount of effects involved, it’s not entirely certain whether it’ll be ready for this year.
Release Date: Shooting begins shortly, and given that, “Bastards” aside, all of Denis’ recent movies premiered at Venice, that would be the best bet if it’s done in time.
They also gave a final and special shoutout to The Trap. It didn't get ranked because all is quiet on the waterfront for the film.
Special Mention: We’re Not Sure If This Is Still Happening in 2016, But It’s Highly Anticipated If It Is

“The Trap”
Director: Harmony Korine (“Trash Humpers,” “Spring Breakers”)
Cast: Idris Elba, Benicio Del Toro, Robert Pattinson, Al Pacino, James FrancoSynopsis: A gangster rapper is targeted by an ex-con recently released from prison.
What You Need To Know: As far as candidates for mainstream crossover status go, we’d have had indie world enfant terrible Harmony Korine fairly low on the list, and yet “Spring Breakers” proved to be a substantial hit in 2013, proving the eternal appeal of James Franco, as well as young women partying in swimsuits. It’s taken a little time for Korine to follow it up, but “The Trap” could end up making even more of a splash —if it’s still happening, as word’s been very quiet since the summer. A crime thriller, the director called it “sensory bombardment… a super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie,” which sounds alright by us. He’s got a great cast lined up (assuming everyone’s still involved: schedules change, and if it is keeping to the original plan, it would clash with Benicio Del Toro’s “Star Wars” shoot), and we can’t wait to see what kind of bonkers fever dream he cooks up this time. If we were 100% sure that this was definitely going to be released this year, it’d undoubtedly be in our top five.Release Date: The film was supposed to get before cameras this month. Assuming that holds, it could be ready for a Venice premiere, as “Spring Breakers” did.
IonCinema had their eyes on one thing and one thing only - The Lost City of Z. #3 out of 25 Most Anticipated Studio Films:
Next, we have another long gestating project, The Lost City of Z from the consistently underrated James Gray. He’s now finally in post-production on the Paramount production which stars Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson in a film inspired by British explorer Perceval Fawcett’s ill-fated attempt to discovering the fabled kingdom of El Dorado. Gray adapts himself from a book by David Gunn, and considering his acclaim in France (his last four films have all competed for the Palme d’Or at Cannes), this may be the rare studio feature that makes the cut in 2016. (Paramount Pictures – Release: TBD)
We can't wait for those and ALLLLLLL of them!

MOVIE NEWS: Harmony Korine Confirms Robert Pattinson For 'The Trap' & Says Production Will Start In January

MOVIE NEWS: Harmony Korine Confirms Robert Pattinson For 'The Trap' & Says Production Will Start In January

Harmony Korine spoke to The Film Stage where he confirmed Robert Pattinson's involvement in The Trap along with the news that production would start in January!

From The Film Stage:

Taking in over six times its budget at the worldwide box-office a few years ago, Spring Breakers, like most of Harmony Korine‘s films, was a love-it-or-hate-it experience, but regardless of how one felt, it certainly brought new attention to the director. For those interested about his career and thoughts on filmmaking, he recently sat down with Marc Maron for a 1.5-hour discussion.

In the conversation, Korine discussed the initial images that led to Spring Breakers, how he helped formulate James Franco‘s character, his current distaste for New York City (as well as his formative years there at NYU), and how Kids came about and Larry Clark discovering him. He also touched on his next feature The Trap, which we haven’t heard an update on since early this year. He confirmed the casting of Benicio Del Toro and Idris Elba (who are the two leads) as well as Robert Pattinson and Al Pacino, with production kicking off in January.

Set in the world of Miami music, it follows Del Toro’s character who gets locked up for a robbery involving Elba’s character and nearly 15 years later is back for revenge. Korine described it as “a complete sensory bombardment,” adding “the way I feel about storytelling now is that it’s more like liquid. It has to do more with energy.” He confirms there’s still a story to be told, saying it’s a “super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie.”

Harmony talks about The Trap and mentions Rob from 1:09:20 mark in the video below

A tattooed Robert Pattinson in The Trap? We are all going to die!

Possible new details about Robert Pattinson's role in The Trap were shared on twitter today and we could not be more excited!!

Tattoo Rob is coming!!

Kelsey Caesar has shared information on his twitter (@KelCaesar) about the original vision for the role from when he auditioned.  It's possible the role has changed but the description fits what we know about Rob's role ...  "surfers/skateboarders" who "shoot-out and rob a mall".  But the new information is that the character is "covered in gang tattoos".

Here's what Kelsey shared ....

It's an easy one to get you back into the swing of things! Which of Rob's upcoming roles are you most looking forward to?  And to make it easy it's just a choice of two and there is a short summary of each film included below to help you decide.

Brimstone
Are you looking forward to seeing Rob re-team with Guy Pearce and Mia Wasikowska?

Mia Wasikowska in the lead as Liz, is a young woman on the run from a difficult past who must flee a diabolical preacher (Pearce). Martin Koolhoven wrote the script and is directing the film in May this year, with Pattinson set as an outlaw, while van Houten’s role has yet to be announced. "Wasikowska is a powerhouse performer,” says producer Tim Haslam. “Guy Peace plays a hunter who unleashes hell. Martin directs a highly emotional, gripping and unique story of a mesmerising woman who battles the vengeance of a zealot.”

The follow-up to Korine’s riotous cult indie crime romp Spring Breakers also has Al Pacino, Robert Pattinson and James Franco in final negotiations to join a cast that has already secured Benicio del Toro as one of the two leads. More details have also been revealed about the storyline for the film which, like Spring Breakers, is set in Miami – with the city’s music scene as a backdrop.
Elba will play Rico, a successful gangster rapper, with Del Toro as Slim, the childhood friend who took the fall for him 14 years earlier after a robbery the pair committed turned sour. When Slim is released from prison just as Rico is about to be honoured at the Grammy awards, he vows revenge on the man who married his girlfriend and raised his jailed friend’s son as his own.
Pattinson is set to play an Uzi-wielding surfer who joins the plot to take out Rico, with Franco as the rapper’s treacherous, cocaine-snorting manager. Pacino, who recently starred with Korine in a rare acting role for the latter in the David Gordon Green drama Manglehorn, is set to play Slim’s parole officer.

MOVIE NEWS: Idris Elba joins Robert Pattinson and cast in Harmony Korine's "The Trap"

MOVIE NEWS: Idris Elba joins Robert Pattinson and cast in Harmony Korine's "The Trap"

It's been awhile since we had news about this film. In fact, last time we reported on it, Jamie Foxx was attached and now he's being replaced.

image host

The Hollywood Reporter:
Focus Features is in final talks to to prebuy U.S. rights to Harmony Korine's The Trap, a revenge tale set against the backdrop of the Miami music scene starring Idris Elba as a gangster rap artist and Benicio Del Toro as his best friend who took the fall for a robbery the duo committed years earlier.
Elba is attached to replace Jamie Foxx, with Al Pacino, Robert Pattinson and James Franco also in final talks to join the cast (Del Toro was announced last year).
Korine, who is repped by CAA, has been a hot commodity since the indie hit Spring Breakers, also starring Franco. Grisbi's John Lesher, producer of the Oscar-winning Birdman, is producing Korine's latest outing alongside Charles-Marie Anthonioz at Iconoclast and Marc Schmidheiny at DCM Film.
Focus declined comment but sources say negotiations are at an advanced stage. CAA is arranging financing and representing domestic rights.
In more good news for The Trap, Lionsgate is handling the movie internationally and will likely shop the project to foreign buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
In The Trap, written by Korine, Rico is at the top of his career and about to enjoy a triumphant night at the Grammy Awards when Slim (Del Toro) is released from prison after 14 years. Slim is determined to exact revenge after learning that Rico not only achieved fame and fortune but also married his girlfriend and raised Slim's son as his own.
Slim's plot includes recruiting a crew of Uzi-wielding surfers led by Max (Pattinson), as well as enlisting the help of Rico's cocaine-happy manager (Franco). Pacino plays Slim's parole officer.
Elba, who is represented by WME, is next in theaters with Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 1). He also stars in African war drama Beasts of No Nation, which was recently acquired by Netflix and is slated to debut on the streaming service and in select theaters this fall timed to awards season.
Pacino is repped by UTA and manager Rick Nicita. Pattinson is repped by WME and 3 Arts Entertainment; Franco by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
UPDATE: Collider says production is on track to begin this summer in Miami.

I love that Focus Features is also looking to pre-buy this title for the US. Distribution of Rob's indies is a contentious issue with me. And HOH! Al Pacino??? That's fantastic!

And we so know Rob will be ready for a surfing role. ;)

We'll keep you posted on the news and you can follow our movie account for the film on twitter: @TheTrap_Film

Robert Pattinson Scores A Hat Trick On The Film Stage's '100 Most Anticipated Movies of 2015' List

Robert Pattinson Scores A Hat Trick On The Film Stage's '100 Most Anticipated Movies of 2015' List

We're always excited to see all of Rob's movies but it's great to see that others are as excited to see his work now too.
No less than THREE of his movies made The Film Stages '100 Most Anticipated Movies of 2015' List.
Life made an appearance on there as did Queen of the Desert and completing the hat trick is The Trap.

Here's what they had to say about each movie:

14. QUEEN OF THE DESERT
With rumors that it would arrive last year, the wait continues for Werner Herzog’s first narrative feature in half-a-decade, the story of legendary cartographer Gertrude Bell may be hitting theaters this year. Led by Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, James Franco, and Damian Lewis, Queen of the Desert follows Bell, a diplomatic explorer, who negotiated with Arab nations and helped establish the countries of Iraq and Jordan. Considering that Herzog is the man who gave us such epics as Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre, we’re looking forward to a return with what looks to be his most visually ambitious work in some time. With fall line-ups getting announced shortly, check back for updates. – Jordan R.

96. LIFE
After premiering his latest drama, A Most Wanted Man, at Sundance last year, we thought director Anton Corbijn might return to Park City, but barring any last-minute announcements that looks to not be the case. Hopefully coming later this year, as scripted by Luke Davies, Life centers on the relationship between James Dean (Dane DeHaan) and Life Magazine‘s Dennis Stock (Robert Pattinson), the latter of whom had been tasked with capturing the up-and-coming actor less than a year before his rise to stardom and tragic death. – Jordan R
21. THE TRAP
After the success of Spring Breakers, Harmony Korine is ready to dive right into his next, “most ambitious” project yet. While little is known about The Trap, we do know that it will likely star Jamie Foxx, Robert Pattinson, and Benicio del Toro in a revenge, gangster drama that follows a “multi-generational family of criminals in the South.” Korine is set to begin shooting the film in Miami in the coming months. With Spring Breakers introducing Korine to a wider audience than ever before, could The Trap be his next big step into the cultural spotlight? – Dan G.

Rob teased us several times before about working with Harmony Korine soon. Rob said Harmony is writing a gangster movie set in Miami with a role specifically for him and Harmony Korine talked to Maxim in September about what this film will be like:
What's your next big project?
I can’t go into super specifics, but it’s like, it’s gonna be my most next-level movie. This is actually the first time I’m talking about it. It’s kind of a sprawling revenge film. It’s pretty, like, full on. I’m gonna put everything I know as a film maker into it. I think it’s gonna be a pretty substantial film. I’m gonna shoot it in Miami right after the New Year.
Harmony also shared good details with Bullett also back in September:
Did [Al Pacino] give you any tips on the Southern Gothic gangster project you’re working on?
Well actually, it’s all done! The script is written. I’m putting the cast together right now, it’s going to be my most ambitious film, and I’m really just going to go for it. It’s some next level shit. It’s a revenge movie, a sprawling, very intense… I don’t want to give away too much, but we’re probably going to start shooting in Miami after the New Year. I’m goin’ for it.
Any particular reason why Miami?
Yeah, just the way the sky looks.
And you’ve got Robert Pattinson locked down?
It’ll have a substantial cast.
Now we have some official casting announcements made. Jamie Foxx and Benicio Del Toro.

Variety:
“Spring Breakers” director Harmony Korine, for the first time in his career, has cast an Oscar-winning actor to star in his movie. Sources tell Variety that Jamie Foxx is attached to topline ensemble gangster drama “The Trap.” Korine will write and direct the feature, which the controversial filmmaker behind “Kids” and “Trash Humpers” has described as “his most ambitious film to date.” Benicio del Toro is also attached to star. John Lesher and Charles-Marie Anthonioz are producing the film. Plot details on “The Trap” are being kept under wraps. The revenge pic is expected to shoot early next year in Miami. Following the success of of his last project, “Spring Breakers,” which earned Korine and star James Franco critical acclaim, more A-list talent should circle the gangster drama.
THR:
Benicio Del Toro is joining Jamie Foxx in The Trap, a Southern revenge movie written and to be directed by Spring Breakers helmer Harmony Korine. The script is a crime thriller centering on two childhood friends now in their mid-to-late 30s — one of whom is very successful and the other has spent the majority of his adult life in jail. On the eve of a big recognition for the successful man, the other is released from jail and determined to get even. John Lesher and Charles-Marie Anthonioz are producing the film, which is slated to shoot early next year.
Rob isn't officially cast yet but we'll keep you posted. The Childhood of a Leader and The Lost City of Z still seem to be on Rob's slate but no specific dates for production are locked.
