ROBsessed's 30 days for 30 years: Robert Pattinson the musician!
There are so many awesome things about Rob but I have to go back to the very start of my Robsession for my first post (and before any of my fellow mods beat me to it)!
Rob has such a great singing voice and we know he plays piano and guitar too. Musician Rob is awesome!
Remember if you want to add your list of '30 awesome things about Rob' please add to the comments section here. We'll end the month with a post filled with your lists.

PromoRob is relaxing at the moment so how great is it that a hidden gem of an interview popped up!
Thanks to our reader, Cali, this interview from CannesRob emerged and after a quick check on the blog, we hadn't posted it!
Don't cry, dry your eyes. We're posting it now and it's classic Rob which means it's awesome. It's all perfect timing to read something new for The Rover, Maps to the Stars and more since:
Yahoo Singapore: It’s late afternoon in Cannes, and heartthrob, Robert Pattinson, 28, appears to be having a good time at the world’s most glamorous film festival promoting the Rover, starring alongside Guy Pearce, 46. He will also star opposite Julianne Moore, 53, in Maps to the Stars, both slated for release this summer.
His hair is short, he has a little facial stubble and he’s wearing a turquoise jacket, black shirt and dark jeans and sneakers.
Pattinson is of course best known for his role as Edward, a vampire who falls in love with a human, Bella, played by on again off again girlfriend, Kristen Stewart, 24, in The Twilight Saga.
Since then, Pattinson has taken on more serious roles such as Remember Me (2010) and Water for Elephants (2011) in which he starred alongside Reese Witherspoon.
Famous for his good looks, Pattinson is often seen topping the ‘hottest’ lists in many publications such as People (2008 and 2009) and Glamour UK, yet he remains humble. He is also the face of Dior Homme, which he took on after Jude Law.
THE INTERVIEW:
Q: Are you a fan of the Mad Max films?
PATTINSON: I have actually never seen them. I have been asked so many times this morning and I have never seen it. (laughter) I guess I have got to see it now.
Q: This whole genre, is it familiar to you?
PATTINSON: Yeah, but I think this one is kind of different. I mean, it’s not like everyone has gone crazy, and they are cannibals. There feels something more real about it, and also I think the world where the movie is set, it’s not that the entire world is like that, they are just in the middle of nowhere. The country has just become very unstable and anything could collapse at any second. It’s sort of like the new society is trying to be born again.
Q: Is the collapse of society a familiar fear to you that you can relate to?
PATTINSON: Not really. I think the world is quite resilient, but I don’t know I think it would be a bit of fun. But I am a bit of a nihilist. (laughter)
Q: Was it fun on the set with Guy Pearce? Was he intimidating?
PATTINSON: No, and he’s also really strong as well. So when you are being thrown around, it actually hurts quite a lot. (laughter) And he was really in it the whole time because he’s really not like that.
Q: So he’s a good actor like you. Is this something that’s really important to you when you work?
PATTINSON: Yeah, one hundred percent. I mean, I think, I always hear some actors saying they didn’t read reviews or care about it, and I just think they are making it up. (laughs) Everybody cares about it; whether people think it’s good.
Q: What was the most difficult thing for you to create this character, to make him special in a way?
PATTINSON: I mean a lot of it was just there in the script at the beginning and I just really connected to it. I mean the most difficult thing was getting the job. But I think once I was doing it, it was quite fun. It was an exciting part to play and David Michôd kind of let me sort of run with any idea as well.
Q: And the accent thing, was that your idea?
PATTINSON: He was supposed to be from the South, but literally only said he was from somewhere in the South, so I don’t know, that was the kind of voice I heard in my head when I was reading the script.
Q: And you said it was more difficult to get the job.
PATTINSON: I mean, I just hate auditioning and I am really, really bad at it. I get so nervous and mess it up for myself and so I have basically tried to avoid doing auditions at all costs. I read the script and I was like, I really, really, really have got to get this part. It’s weird though, preparing for a part that you are already cast and just actually doing it for real and just kind of hoping that your anxiety doesn’t get the better of you in the room.
Q: And you got a phone call? What happened?
PATTINSON: I got a second audition afterwards and then they told me at the end of it, and it was a kind of amazing feeling.
Q: And so was it the first time you went to Australia shooting?
PATTINSON: I have been to Sydney just a couple of times to work, but yeah, in that area definitely.
Q: Are you done with the blockbuster thing or are you possibly returning to that at some point in your career?
PATTINSON: Yeah, it’s waiting for the right director. Nothing has come up and I mean, that’s not saying I don’t want to do it, but blockbusters, big movies just take a really long time to shoot as well. So I think you have to really, really, really want to do it. There’s a lot of pressure and you just don’t get that many interesting parts in big movies, especially for young guys. It’s just the same thing every time.
Q: Lots of comic book adaptations. Is there some character that you would say, yeah, I would do it?
PATTINSON: Yeah maybe, I was never really that into comic books when I was a kid and stuff so I don’t really have that connection. You also have to work out like tons, (laughter) in potentially a movie you might not like. It’s just a big hassle. (laughs)
Q: Maps to the Stars was excellent. So when you first read the script, what did you make of it?
PATTINSON: I thought it was hilarious and I liked some of the lines (laughter) I am excited about seeing it with an audience. But that’s Cronenberg; he’s quite into being subversive and quite combative and stuff. It’s kind of amazing that he’s still doing that, he’s 72.
Q: Have you seen people who actually almost act like that?
PATTINSON: A lot of the young kids in it, I have seen a lot of them. I think they are the most honest. And Havana, there are lots of actresses who kind of go a little bit crazy. But the kids, that’s like quite a mainstream thing, this kind of hatred. There’s a lot of negative energy, I don’t know why, it’s just really odd.
Q: You played music on Twilight – will you release a record one day?
PATTINSON: I want to make one, I just don’t really know about releasing one. (laughs) I don’t know, I can’t really deal with criticism very well and I have already got criticism coming from one angle (laughs) and I don’t feel the need to get it from somewhere else.
Q: What would it sound like? What music would you make?
PATTINSON: I don’t know yet. I mean I always used to record kind of singer-songwriters stuff and I don’t really want to do that. I was trying to figure out something else, but yeah, I don’t know yet. Trying to figure out my new sound. (Tink: Rob will be old and gray still telling us he's working on recording an album and he's trying to figure it out. OLD AND GRAY.)

Guy Pearce is releasing his debut album and during an interview, he gave Rob some enthused praise for his songwriting skills and mentioned how they were able to play together on The Rover. Excerpt from Daily Telegraph:
The actor has revealed he jammed with Russell Crowe when they worked together on L.A. Confidential and years later, he sang with co-star in The Rover Robert Pattinson, who he describes as a “great songwriter”.Click HERE to watch the video of Guy talking about Rob. He starts after the 3:40 mark in the second video.
“We had a few good plays,” said Pearce of his music sessions with Crowe. “I mean I’m not a great guitarist to be honest, Russell’s a much more formidable guitarist than I am, but we sat and compared notes and played a few songs together at times”.
“You know I’ve done that with a few actors along the way — Rob Pattinson is a really great songwriter, so on the road we had a bit of time together playing music.”
Thank you Flavia!

Robert Pattinson sits in the back seat of a car with some gal pals after attending the Arctic Monkeys concert on Tuesday (October 1) in Los Angeles. The 27-year-old actor was joined by his friend Florence Welch and her sister Grace, as well as two other mystery people. Noticeably missing from the group was Dylan Penn, who has been reported to be Rob‘s new girlfriend after they were spotted together last month. 15+ pictures inside of Robert Pattinson out with some gal pals…

Robert Pattinson knows how to do low-key well. The actor quietly slipped into R&B singer The Weeknd's listening party last night at Hollywood's No Vacancy. Wearing a blue hoodie, Pattinson and three pals were escorted in through the back. They spent most of the Hennessy-hosted evening hanging in an upstairs balcony before taking off at about 2 a.m.

Rob loves music. We love Rob. Let's love what Rob listens to.
We have a Robert Pattinson Book Club that we maintain, adding books to it that Rob mentions in public and we even have a scroll on the sidebar that you can purchase these books. During the time of that post and pretty much ongoing, readers have requested a list of Rob's musical picks.
I've avoided it because you just KNOW Rob has tens of thousands of songs on his iPod(s). Maybe hundreds of thousands?? o.O We loved Rob's iTunes Celebrity Playlist from 2008 and just like his book reads, Rob's shared other artists and albums through the years that he enjoys.
I need your help. I've jumpstarted us but what do you remember? Start talking in the comments and I'll try and find the source. That's the main criteria - Rob needs to have mentioned it or the link to him is clear and direct. You can link in the comments too because I'll see them. I've also included a category for concerts Rob has attended that we know of.

We love us some MusicalRob and now we're going to see who else loves MusicalRob. Or at least who loves to collect celebrity autographs on musical instruments.
According to the LA Times, a guitar autographed by Robert Pattinson will join over 100 other autographed guitars for an auction Dec. 1st to benefit the Dio Cancer Fund. Guitars can be previewed Nov. 19th-Nov. 30th in Beverly Hills at Julien's Auctions.
Rob contributed an acoustic-electric guitar.
Not the one pictured. I just like this throwback pic of AcousticRob teasing us with clavicleporn.
The auction will be held online and live. Click HERE if you are interested in placing a bid on Rob's guitar and to get more information about the auction. This will be cool! Can't wait to see what Rob's guitar will go for. If Rob's baseball home plate artwork can go for $6,400, imagine what a fine, musical instrument with Rob's autograph could do. :)

Rob pops up towards the end and he only says "sweety high" but I like him saying sweety. :)
Joe Anderson (Alistair) was talking about Rob opening something to play music in. Bar or restaurant....wait...
WHAT?? My mind is blown. However, we already know Rob has RenaissanceRob living inside him so opening up a bar/restaurant/whatever is totally possible for the man who can do anything...at least in our world. ;)
Can you imagine?? All the women flocking to this place in hopes the owner is in that night and giving out free hugs to patrons. HA! This will be so interesting if it pans out to be true.

"Perched on top of a booth, Robert Pattinson was seen sipping cocktails and engaged in the music, often catching him mouthing the lyrics and smiling," a rep for the club told E! News. "His spirits were great and you could tell he was comfortable and content. He truly looked happy."UPDATE3: Kennedy wrote about her encounter with Rob on her Facebook:
Black Keys at Sayers Club? In front of a scant 50 people? Doing a full set?? Are you kidding me??!! Next thing you're going to tell me Robert Pattinson was there, and we spent an hour talking about booze and Buddhism. Oh, wait...UPDATE2: Added more from LA Times reporter, Matt Donnelly, who was at the concert and was the first to mention Rob at the show. He says:
Rob sang along to virtually every track, breaking occasionally to greet folks such as Sayers Club creative director Jason Scoppa.
Rob seemed relaxed, positioned behind the rows and rows of fans snapping photos and taking video, not of him but of the band. An unusual experience for Pattinson, but perhaps a typical night at the exclusive venue.Full report down below!

From tobitalks: sometimes on sunday funday i help robpatt escape the paparazzi. he's super rad/sweet, btw. #xo #adayinthelifeofaDJ
Guuuuuyyys....look at this tweet I sent my friend way earlier this evening:
I left my house just now sans laptop for hours. Rob will likely pop up in pics or a credible/verified sighting now. Ur welcome ;)GAH!!!!
Cutie PIE! Why so yummy looking, Rob?? Rob was out and about last night for a private concert by The Black Keys at the Sayers Club in Hollywood. Lucky Kennedy got to snag a picture!
UPDATE2: From LA Times/Matt Donnelly:
Robert Pattinson stepped out Sunday evening in Hollywood for a show by rockers the Black Keys.*removed Matt's tweets because his report in LA Times is more complete*
Making a guys' night of it, Pattinson rolled with friends including his "Breaking Dawn — Part 2" costar Rami Malek for the exclusive show, hosted at the Sayers Club by 98.7 FM.
Ducking into a rear entrance close to 9 p.m., Pattinson, in a black baseball cap and jeans, posted up against against a back wall and enjoyed mixed drinks as the band played hits including "Tighten Up."
Rob sang along to virtually every track, breaking occasionally to greet folks such as Sayers Club creative director Jason Scoppa.
The young actor reportedly has reconciled with Kristen Stewart, his "Twilight Saga" costar and longtime off-screen love, following her July indiscretion with director Rupert Sanders.
But Sunday wasn't about his relationship, it was about music.
Rob seemed relaxed, positioned behind the rows and rows of fans snapping photos and taking video, not of him but of the band. An unusual experience for Pattinson, but perhaps a typical night at the exclusive venue.
You know I added the concert to our Robert Pattinson Music Club :)) EXCITE! MusicalRob gave us another gem and I have to start leaving the house sans laptop more often. ;)
Thanks Cyn for the heads up on the new pic!

Flashback: Addicted and devoted to Robert Pattinson and his music
We've been talking about MusicalRob on the blog recently from his jam session with Dermot to SaxophonistRob. In the comments, I catch when people say, "oh I've never seen this, never heard this, never known this!" and I saw that in those posts. We know Rob keeps his musical side pretty protected. The last recording we were privy to was made over two years ago and shared publicly well over a year after that (It's All On You). If you're new to Robsession, you might not know all that is out there with Rob's musical stamp on it.
Since MusicalRob is so beloved, doesn't take much for us to do a post like this :) Let's review all the gems we have from one talented man.
4 years ago, music Rob had self recorded leaked out and gave fans an awesome sampling of his soulful, raw vocal quality. Stray Dog and I'll Be Your Lover Too are my favorites from that series.
Stray Dog
I'll Be Your Lover Too
To Roam
To Roam video with lyrics
Rob also used to frequent open mics and there are a couple videos that captured either his performance of the vocals. The first song that reached my heart and clenched it was I Was Broken. LAWD the emotion in his voice. I heard it first in May 2009, when I became Robsessed. Rob's talent was everywhere in my searches for who this guy playing Edward Cullen was.
I Was Broken - written by Rob's friend Marcus Foster
This is the full version, vocal recording only, also worth a listen. Love the tone he starts the song with.
I adore this live version of Stray Dog. It also kills me because had I been Robsessed during the fall of 08 and not spring of 09, I might have caught this performance in LA.
Stray Dog
These recordings are two more Marcus Foster songs performed live by Rob. Not the best recording but you can hear Rob setting up his songs and singing to his heart's content.
In Your Head
I Don't Mind
More MusicalRob and official recordings after the cut!

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart out and about in Los Angeles
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart out and about in Los Angeles
Rob and Kristen were spotted at Soho House last night (amyebowers):
The Soho sighting is not far fetched since there were multiple sightings earlier of Rob and Kristen at the Marcus Foster show in Hollywood. I had the pleasure of attending the show. Marcus has had two shows in LA after a loooooong hiatus (last show was Dec. 2009). He's a favorite of mine so it was great to finally have him back. Rob and Kristen attended the show and this encounter is a compilation from the people I was with.
At the end of the show, myself and my 3 friends were heading out of the main room. I was cut off from my group by a pushy, wretched, beast woman who I curse with every cell in my body. Not really. Kinda just a little. At the time, I was gracious and let her shove past me and move behind my friends.
The passageway was slightly congested and when I got out of the area, my friends were clustered by a table and oddly projecting a glow. They assumed I too should be glowing and wondered why I wasn't. They told me Rob and Kristen had been in the passageway during the show and they walked out at the same time as them. Kristen was in front of Rob against a wall and Sam Bradley and another friend of theirs were sort of human blocking them.
As my friends were moving towards the next room, Rob took Kristen's hand and turned to walk that way too since people were beginning to file out. The timing had them walking alongside my friends to exit the passageway. I was oblivious, walking behind wretched beast woman who is forever cursed. My glowing friends said that Rob wasn't hunching into himself. He was at his full height. Full glorious height. My friend closest to him heard him do some kind of scat thing. A humming little diddy. We were analyzing the differences between a scat and diddy later. It was a "doooo deeee doooo daaaaaa" she heard. But sexier because of the source.
Is your brain bleeding yet? Anywho. So Kristen was now behind Rob as he led them out the door that went into the other room, sneaked around a pulled curtain beside the door and disappeared into a private room. He was scruff/bearded but not MountainManRob. It's a dark venue but my friends said he was wearing the grey and black checkered jacket we all know with a white shirt underneath and a black beanie. I was wearing a scowl. ;)
There were no paparazzi and nobody disturbed them. This kind of encounter stuff without pics is normally "yeah yeah sure sure" for me but it was seen by my people. If you have ever met me, you likely met them too. I trust them completely. Their eyes might as well be my eyes which is why I'm sharing the encounter. I'm happy Marcus had his friends there to support him. He put on an energetic show and the night was chill with a good crowd (excluding the beast) and great music (including Rob's scatdiddy).

Robert Pattinson arrived at the luxurious Four Seasons hotel, in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, very much like himself. Beard, jeans, white shirt and hat turned to the back. Before we started the interview, he passed by me carrying a dog bed and left it in a room, at the end of the hall, where Bear was. Yes, Rob’s dog always joins him in his business commitments, ever since his owner adopted him, during Breaking Dawn filming.
The English actor came back laughing and not even caring that I was there seeing everything. Rob is exactly like that: a simple guy that makes sure to always be himself. In 4 years of the Twilight saga, the most famous actor in Hollywood, never let success go up to his head. He was never involved in scandals and doesn't like talking about his personal life - even his relationship with Kristen almost goes unnoticed. Rob's secret? To have his family and his "few true friends" always around him. In this exclusive interview to CAPRICHO, Robert Pattinson also talked about what he felt while shooting 'Breaking Dawn': he said he only got scared during the wedding scene when saw Kristen walking dawn the aisle towards him, and that he was terrified to hold a real baby. Ah! Notice the loving way he talks about his girlfriend.
It was so cool to see you talking Portuguese...
I wonder what the fans thought of me. They think I did it all wrong.. Honestly, I was just repeating the words people were saying to me. (laughs)
What did you feel when you saw Kristen wearing the wedding dress?
She looked amazing. To me, it was a very easy scene. I didn't have to hide, like Kristen, because of the dress. She was so stressed, sitting inside the house, waiting for the paparazzi helicopters to leave. I was great, until I saw her walking in my direction. When I saw her terrified look, I realized that it was my scene too, that I was going to have to do something. (laughs) It was my time to freak out. But it was a beautiful scene.
And the sex scene? Was it difficult to shoot?
No. That was easy! (laughs). The hardest thing was that, in normal movies, when you're doing a sex scene, people don't pressure you a lot because the director doesn't want to intervene and suggest how he would do that. (laughs) But in Breaking Dawn, it was different, there was too much expectation. How to make all the people, that were waiting for that moment, happy?
Do you think you did well?
I think all the merits go to the director, Bill Condon. Because there weren't many ways to film a nice sex scene with a PG-13 rating. You can't show too much. It can't be "complete", with everyone naked. (laughs)
Was there anything that made your life easier during that time?
Actually, nothing made things less weird. (laughs) There were three men to break the bed. I was trying to do a sex scene and there was huge guy laying on the floor, looking at me and telling me what to do.
How was your attitude towards Kristen
I was worried about protecting her because, you know, in that situation, everything is more complicated. But in the end, she was more comfortable with her body than I was with mine. (laughs)
Were you embarrassed to be shirtless
(Laughs) I was trying to keep the sheets covering us during the breaks between scenes. But it was more because of me than Kristen (laughs). Have to be judge by how I look like is terrifying. -- I avoided that the whole saga. --
Did you work out to film those scenes
Yes. But, as soon as I filmed them and didn't need to be shirtless, I stopped working out. (laughs)
The birth scene is so dramatic. How was to shoot that?
I read the script and didn't understand it. It didn't look like a Twilight scene. To see Bella almost dead and have to do a c-section with my mouth. I thought: "How are they going to film that?"
And Kristen? She was okay with it?
She's very commited to the role and was really involved in Bella's story. She was so intense in the scene, I don't know, I think it brought out an emotion in me. For the first time during the saga I was nervous. There was no other way to shoot that. It's a scary scene.
Taylor Lautner said Kristen looked really sexy as a vampire. True?
(Laughs)Of course, a sexy goddess. She looked amazing. It was funny because Bella is that girl that is always tripping on things, and then, she turns into this elegant woman, like a vampire queen. Kristen had the best twist in the plot!
Did the movie make you think what kind of father would you be?
I never really thought about that, but during the second part of the movie, we were filming with 2-3 weeks old babies, and I was terrified. You have no idea how small they are. (laughs). I was scared to death to break them.
Do you want to be a young dad?
I think that would be nice, because I don't have a lot of friends. (laughs) Sorry, I don't have a younger brother, my idea about kids is kind of immature. (laughs)
How do you define love?
Wow. (laughs) I think it's to be with someone and let that person to be herself. Each one has to live their own lives, but with the support of the other person. And you need to be able to do what you want. This is one of the definitions of a couple in love, because love is about so many other things.
Have Kris, Tay and you really become friends?
We went through this moment in our careers together It's nice to be around people that were going through the same thing. It's easier to keep your ego and sanity under control. Like, any of us would judge the other if he/she changed. And the fact that we are still friends, after five movies, is amazing. We were lucky.
How would you describe Kristen?
She's great. Ok, that was awful (laughs) She's ambitious.I like that obsessive determination she has to be herself. She's amazing. She takes the things she says too seriously, kind of like the opposite of me. (laughs)
What have you learned in these four years in Twilight
The importance to keep my feet on the ground. Ever since I became an actor, I saw people who with just a little fame, lost it. But the majority of the people I’ve worked with in Twilight didn’t, just like the actors in Harry Potter. Having family and real friends around me helped me a lot. That makes the difference in life.
Four years ago, you were shocked with fame. What changed?
Everything. It’s strange being the subject all the time. You feel powerful and think that you can do anything you want. You want to remember your original dreams because it all gets confusing and distorted when you have a million people telling you what to do. You feel that you are being judged, no matter what you do. I still believe in what I used to believe
Have you given up on being a musician?
I stopped doing gigs because who goes to see me wants to see the famous person. It’s nice to play to people that just want to have fun and don't care about who I am.
But do you still make music?
Yes. I’ve made millions of songs. (laughs) I play the guitar, piano and cello.
You play paino in 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2', right?
I teach Renesmee how to play the piano. It's nice. I shot the scene with a 4 year old girl that played better than me. (laughs)
At 25, what do you want from life?
I don’t know, to become an adult? I still feel like I’m 12. I hope to grow up. (laughs)
I think if Rob ever let us hear him play the cello, I'd die.
