The King has premiered at the Venice Film Festival and oh boy is it exciting! First up, a new still of Rob looking very Robearrr-ish.

David Michôd shared more about casting Rob and the role he's playing during the press conference. We're going to have to wait an hour to see our guy but it seems like the wait will worth it.

Excerpt from The Hollywood Reporter, Venice: 'The King' Director Says He Cast Robert Pattinson to Add "Razzle-Dazzle":
Although all actors are in top form, at an early morning press screening in Venice, Pattinson stole the show from the moment he appeared onscreen. With his outlandish garb and foppish accent, Pattinson drew laughter and applause in his role as the Dauphin of France, serving as the perfect foe to Chalamet’s earnest Henry V.

"I just had a feeling he would make it fun," said Michod. "I needed that. He is a supporting character. He doesn’t appear in the movie until an hour in. It was very, very important to me that when he did appear it was with razzle-dazzle."

Michod said that he and Edgerton did an enormous amount of research for the project. "And then we made a whole bunch of stuff up, too,” he said. “The upshot is I sit here now and I kind of honestly can’t remember what’s real, what’s made up and what’s from Shakespeare.”

He continued: "I think he was a bit of a dandy. I think he was quite a bit younger than Rob. Apparently he was hugely fat. Apparently it was historically true that Hal as king offered to fight him one-on-one to settle the score, probably knowing that his offer would be refused."

Michod, who cast Pattinson in his second film The Rover, praised the actor for his career decisions. "I loved working with him. I loved how inventive he was. I loved how hungry he was to make bold choices," said Michod. "I just had this feeling that he would love to sink his teeth into this character because it wasn’t like anything he’d done before."
Excerpt from Vulture, The King Director Cast Robert Pattinson and His Wig for ‘Razzle-Dazzle’:
Writer-director David Michôd delivers entertaining history with The King, his new Netflix movie about Henry V (Timothée Chalamet) and his ascendancy from partying teenager to warrior sovereign. At its Venice Film Festival premiere on Monday, Henry and his sparring partners snared some hearty gasps and laughs — particularly France’s Dauphin, an arrogant and ridiculous prince who provides a steady stream of comedy. A bewigged Robert Pattinson plays the preening, over-dressed Gallic dandy. “I like speaking English,” he sneers in character. “It is a simple, ugly language.”
“I just had a feeling he [Pattinson] would make it fun,” Michôd told the standing-room only Sala Perla 2 press conference. “I needed that. He is a supporting character. He doesn’t appear in the movie until an hour in. It was very, very important to me that when he did appear it was with razzle-dazzle.”
Here's a part of the press conference on video with David chatting about Rob and contains some of the quotes above.

The folks who saw the film are also singing Rob's praises:

The King will be in US theaters Oct. 11th and on Netflix Nov. 1st.

From The Hollywood Reporter

Robert Pattinson, Sean Harris, Ben Mendelsohn and Lily-Rose Depp have joined Timothee Chalamet and Joel Edgerton in Netflix’s upcoming period drama, The King.

David Michod, the director behind Netflix’s War Machine as well as crime drama Animal Kingdom, is helming the production, which begins June 1 in the UK, and wrote the script with Edgerton.

Plan B is producing along with Liz Watts, who produced the Michod’s Animal Kingdom as well as The Rover. Edgerton and Michod are also producing.

According to Netflix, The King is based on Shakespeare’s Henry the IV and V, focusing on a young and disgraced prince Hal (a.k.a. the future King Henry the V) who “inherits the crown and must learn what it means to be a king, guided by his one true friend, Falstaff.”

Chalamet is playing Hal, while Edgerton is Falstaff.

Pattinson will play The Dauphin, who is a French duke; Mendelsohn will play King Henry IV; Depp will portray Princess Catherine, the daughter of the French king who marries Hal; and Harris will step into the shoes of William.

Tom Glynn-Carney (Dunkirk) and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie (Leave No Trace) are also in the movie.
Thanks Nancy

Brace yourselves. Is Robert Pattinson reteaming with David Michôd (The Rover), Joel Edgerton (Life) and Brad Pitt (The Lost City of Z) for a new movie? Production would start in June!

The main industry trades (Variety, Deadline, The Wrap) haven't mentioned Rob's involvement yet but IMDbPro has included Rob in a new project:

image host

The King would have Rob rejoining his The Rover writer/director, David Michôd, and Life costar, Joel Edgerton, if IMDb proves to be correct. Rob also worked with Brad Pitt who co-produced The Lost City of Z. Brad recently worked with David in War Machine available on Netflix.

Little White Lies posted about The King, which will star Oscar nominated, Timothy Chalmet (Call Me By Your Name), but they might have gotten their info from IMDbPro as well.

From LWL:
Fresh from his breakout roles in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name and Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, Timothée Chalamet is reportedly in line to play King Henry V in a new Netflix release from Animal Kingdom and The Rover director David
Michôd...According to Deadline Chalamet is set to appear in The King as the eponymous English monarch, who famously led his army to victory at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 during the Hundred Years’ War with France. He died aged 36, leaving the throne to his infant son.
Michôd’s previous feature, the Brad Pitt-fronted military satire War Machine, arrived on Netflix last year to little fanfare. The Australian filmmaker has teamed up with regular collaborator and compatriot Joel Edgerton to pen the script for The King, and with Chalamet joining Robert Pattinson in the principle cast, we’re bracing ourselves for something big.
Oh I would definitely be bracing.

Excerpted details from Deadline (does not include mention of Rob):
Timothee Chalamet is firming his first starring role since being Oscar nominated for his breakout turn in Call Me By Your Name. Chalamet will star as the title character in The King, a Plan B-produced drama helmed by David Michôd. Production will start in June.
Joel Edgerton and Michôd wrote the script. Chalamet will play the young Henry V. After his brother is killed in battle before his coronation, a young king is coronated in the late 1300s. The reluctant ruler wears the crown at a time when England was near a war with France, and the empire is teetering. He rises to the occasion, admirably.
Plan B’s Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will produce along with Edgerton and Michôd. Liz Watts, who produced the Michôd-directed Animal Kingdom and The Rover, are also producing. Michôd made his most recent film with Plan B and Netflix, the Brad Pitt-starrer War Machine.
Fingers crossed, guys! I wouldn't mind seeing this reunion at all. ;)

Hello smiley Rob, we see you!

 photo Blog-RoverSYD_1.jpg

From Guy Pearce's Website:
"2013: This was a pretty quiet year, work-wise. Having said that, I did do one of the most intense films I’ve ever done – David Michod’s “The Rover” (Jan – March) with Rob Pattinson. Personally, I think the film’s amazing. David’s a unique director and the film is extremely evocative. (...) The Rover was a fascinating project and it was unreal to work with David again after Animal Kingdom. Great to see Rob in action too. His performance is utterly brilliant and heartbreaking."

Robsessed Awards: Robert Pattinson's Best Non-Fandom Supporter Of 2014

Robsessed Awards: Robert Pattinson's Best Non-Fandom Supporter Of 2014

We know you love Rob, we know we love Rob.... but throughout the year we've also found out who else loves Rob and he's very loveable it seems. Just love that directors and fellow actors always have such nice things to say.

David Cronenberg ~ Speaking to THR ahead of Saturday night's New York Film Festival screening of Maps, Cronenberg explained that he wanted to work with Pattinson on this movie not only because the director thinks of him as "a wonderful actor" and they "had a good time on Cosmopolis," but also because it provided the opportunity for Pattinson to participate in the sort of ensemble film he'd told Cronenberg he wanted to do.

 photo Cronenberg.gif

David Michod ~ "I had always thought he was some angular, super good-looking brooding guy, then I met him and he was way more interesting than that. He wasn’t just a pretty boy. He had a really interesting face. He was interestingly awkward. And clearly very bright."

 photo Michod.jpg

Guy Pearce ~ "On the second day he was doing the scene where he falls out of the truck and he's sitting there bleeding and I was watching it on the monitor. I looked at David and said, 'Wow, he's really good, isn't he?' What he was offering up with regard to the power shifts between us meant I had such great stuff to work with."

Julianne Moore ~ "Robert Pattinson is one of those people whose affect is so dissimilar to who he is. He has this gorgeous face and he seems like he’s going to be very remote and very serious. But he’s not. He’s incredibly chatty, fun, and smart."

 photo Julianne.jpg

Anton Corbijn ~ "Rob is of course a film star, but he likes to be seen as an actor, so he works very hard to be an actor and be valued as an actor."

Josh Horowitz ~ If we're honest, I'd say Josh is a little Robsessed and we love him for it. He's always on top of what Rob's up to and who can forget the 30 minute interview from earlier this year?

 photo Josh.jpg

Werner Herzog ~ "He is a smart man and the choice was quite natural."

Brady Corbet ~ "I've known Rob for years, and I've been a big fan of Rob's and I've really liked the decisions he's made. He's used his celebrity in a very, very intelligent way."

More New Pics From 'The Rover' Roundtable With Robert Pattinson, Guy Pearce & David Michod

Yesterday we posted up a Roundtable Interview & pics by THN that was done at the London The Rover promo last week.
Today we have some more pics from the same roundtable interview by Live For Films & The Establishing Shot.
Their transcripts are a little different to the one from THN yesterday so it's worth going over to have a read of them.

 photo TheRoverUKRoundtable6.jpg

And The Establishing Shot posted one question that none of the others did........

Guy & Rob can you tell us a little bit about the differences in working on big films like Marvel franchises and the Twilight series as opposed to The Rover which has a has a much smaller independent feel to it?

Guy Pearce: We were discussing this yesterday. Often really the differences are the people you are working with, so there can be massive differences between one film and another – purely because they are in different countries or different people but the budgets are the same.

I think when it comes down to it and you are standing in front of the camera and you are acting and you have a director who wants a particular thing and you are just trying to successfully do what it is that you – there is no difference really. But if you stand back there are lots of executives standing around being nervous about lots of money, on a film like The Rover or Iron Man 3, although they weren’t particularly nervous about their money and they were pretty confident about it, the whole Marvel team I think. But you are aware that it is bigger, in a way I prefer the more intimate situations, you can get answers out of the people you want answers from as opposed to hold on I need to find out from the hierarchy if we can change that word.

Robert Pattinson: I think The Rover is a more extreme example as well. When you have a big budget it creates expectations of how you are supposed to be treated. When we were out there, there was literally no option other than staying in a shipping container. It’s kind of nice, everyone is on totally equal footing. It doesn’t let your vanity take hold.
