MOVIE NEWS: Robert Pattinson No Longer Involved In Martin Koolhaven's 'Brimstone'

It was announced today that Robert Pattinson & Mia Wasikowska are no longer involved in Marin Koolhaven's movie Brimstone which started shooting in Europe recently.
I know many of you were (like myself) looking forward to seeing Rob & Guy back working together. They were such a great combo on The Rover. I'm looking forward to the day though that they are reunited and confident that it will happen in the future. Until then we still have plenty of upcoming Rob movies to support.

Screen International reporter Andreas Wiseman tweeted this earlier this morning .........

Which was then followed by this tweet by Brimstone director Martin Koolhaven.......

The Hollywood Reporter and Screen Daily also confirmed that Kit Harington and Dakota Fanning have joined the cast replacing Rob & Mia.

From The Hollywood Reporter:
Kit's character was recently killed off in the shocking season finale of Game of Thrones. In Brimstone, he will play an outlaw who has a crucial role in the tale of retribution, replacing Robert Pattinson who was announced as taking on the role during the Berlin film festival and market.

Fanning stars as Liz, a heroine on the run from her past and chased by the evil Preacher (Pearce). Mia Wasikowska was original cast in Fanning’s role.

From Screen Daily:
Dakota Fanning (Night Moves) and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) have replaced Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Robert Pattinson (Twilight), respectively, in Martin Koolhoven’s thriller Brimstone, which is now underway in Europe.

Producer Els Vandevorst issued the following statement to Screen about the cast changes: “Mia Wasikowska left the film due to unforeseen personal circumstances and Dakota Fanning immediately jumped into the leading starring role. Kit Harington was so consistently passionate about the script that his enthusiasm and total creative commitment made him a must for the role which had been lined up by Pattinson.”

From New Sparta Films Website :
New Sparta Films (NSF) is delighted to announce its involvement in the financing of Martin Koolhoven’s Brimstone.

“Retribution is coming”

The film, written and directed by Koolhoven and produced by Els Vandervorst of N279 Productions, stars Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska, Robert Pattinson and Carice van Houten and is set to commence shooting in Germany and Spain in June 2015 with a second period of shooting in Romania later in the year.

Brimstone is a triumphant epic of survival, set in the searing wilds of the badlands, the menacing inferno of the Old American West. It is a tale of powerful womanhood and resistance against the unforgiving cruelty of a Hell on earth.

Set against the backdrop of the late 19th Century frontier territory lawlessness, this is a powerful epic thriller with a compelling story and an engaging central female character on a life-threatening mission to escape from, and exact revenge upon, an enigmatic, evil preacher. It is a dark tale, but gripping and emotionally fulfilling.

Robert Pattinson will apparently be smoldering and rocking sex hair in Brimstone. YUP.

It's an easy one to get you back into the swing of things! Which of Rob's upcoming roles are you most looking forward to?  And to make it easy it's just a choice of two and there is a short summary of each film included below to help you decide.

Brimstone
Are you looking forward to seeing Rob re-team with Guy Pearce and Mia Wasikowska?

Mia Wasikowska in the lead as Liz, is a young woman on the run from a difficult past who must flee a diabolical preacher (Pearce). Martin Koolhoven wrote the script and is directing the film in May this year, with Pattinson set as an outlaw, while van Houten’s role has yet to be announced. "Wasikowska is a powerhouse performer,” says producer Tim Haslam. “Guy Peace plays a hunter who unleashes hell. Martin directs a highly emotional, gripping and unique story of a mesmerising woman who battles the vengeance of a zealot.”

Rob has just been listed among the cast of The Trap with Harmony Korine.

The follow-up to Korine’s riotous cult indie crime romp Spring Breakers also has Al Pacino, Robert Pattinson and James Franco in final negotiations to join a cast that has already secured Benicio del Toro as one of the two leads. More details have also been revealed about the storyline for the film which, like Spring Breakers, is set in Miami – with the city’s music scene as a backdrop.
Elba will play Rico, a successful gangster rapper, with Del Toro as Slim, the childhood friend who took the fall for him 14 years earlier after a robbery the pair committed turned sour. When Slim is released from prison just as Rico is about to be honoured at the Grammy awards, he vows revenge on the man who married his girlfriend and raised his jailed friend’s son as his own.
Pattinson is set to play an Uzi-wielding surfer who joins the plot to take out Rico, with Franco as the rapper’s treacherous, cocaine-snorting manager. Pacino, who recently starred with Korine in a rare acting role for the latter in the David Gordon Green drama Manglehorn, is set to play Slim’s parole officer.

Martin Koolhaven Talks Brimstone, Robert Pattinson Fans & More On Dutch Radio

Martin Koolhaven Talks Brimstone, Robert Pattinson Fans & More On Dutch Radio

 photo icarrousel_image.jpg photo AyK5izI-Imgur-1.jpg

Martin Koolhaven (Brimstone Director) appeared on Dutch radio yesterday where he spoke about getting ready for the start of filming, Robert Pattinson fans and lots more.

Thanks to we have a transcript of the interview below.
"Martin Koolhoven, director of BRIMSTONE, appeared in the Radio 6 studio in The Netherlands, today March 10th 2015, to share his favorite Prince songs. He’s a huge fan of this performer. In between songs he shared some snippets of info about his new movie Brimstone.

He told that it took him a long time to write the script and many people are very enthusiastic about it. Although he has to prove it yet, he believes it is going to be a good movie.

Now the time that he is going to start filming comes closer things are a bit nerve-wrecking. He’s still figuring out what is possible and what he can and/or cannot do.

Today he had meetings with the people of sound and sound design. They had to determine which way to go and what to take into account during filming. E.g. there is an emotional scene that needs music and next is a very silent scene. Of course a scene is never completely without sound, there is always something like a ticking clock, but they want something more original, so what is that sound going to be? Sometimes that particular sound also needs images and those are things that have to be discussed. On set only the voices will be recorded and not the other sounds like footsteps, noise made with cups etc. Those sounds will be cut and added later in post-production. All decisions have certain consequences. He points out that this is a normal procedure with every movie.

When he’s asked about having Robert Pattinson in his movie, he said that Rob’s fans are unbelievable, all the time they search the internet for information and they translate everything. He said that he’s tagged in tweets and gets many questions. They follow him on Twitter and (laughed) that is definitely not because of his football related tweets.

He said that he will start filming Brimstone in less than two months from now. And doesn't want to give too much away about the project as he doesn't know yet how he wants to present the movie and things can always change. The movie started out as being a Western set in the late 19th century and now it’s more a thriller.

The movie starts with Mia Warsikowska as Liz who lives in a small village that is terrorized by the new preacher played by Guy Pearce. He doesn't expect that filming with huge stars will be any different for him. Until now the cast is really nice and down-to-earth without Hollywood bullsh*t and so far they haven’t made any crazy demands for their trailers.

He repeats that it took him a long time to write the script and it was really a ‘difficult delivery’. After finishing the script, he searched for financing and sent the script to numerous agencies in Hollywood. Everywhere he went he got the same answer: ‘We’ll read it next week’ But they never did. A producer friend of his business companion said they were doing it all wrong and gave them names of casting directors and Koolhoven chose Des Hamilton who was immediately enthusiastic and then things really started happening.

Koolhoven said that he only gets really really nervous before the start of a football match, but ……. there is not much time left and he admits to not having found all the film-locations yet."

"He Has A Kind Of Rebellious Charisma & He Is A Handsome Guy & A Very Good Actor" ~ Martin Koolhoven Talks Robert Pattinson

"He Has A Kind Of Rebellious Charisma & He Is A Handsome Guy & A Very Good Actor" ~ Martin Koolhoven Talks Robert Pattinson

UPDATE: Added another interview with Martin where he talks about Brimstone and his impressive cast.

Martin Koolhoven the Director of Brimstone spoke to Veronica Magazine about how he things Rob will be good in the movie, about his fans and more. Watch the video below and check out the translation below.

Translation (Thanks To @RobsPromotion)
"Pattinson was a teen-idol. A lot of fans are still very loyal. I didn't know he was that popular. I knew he was popular, but not that there are people that have more or less devoted their lives to finding every bit of news about him on the internet, so every interview and most probably also this one 'hello, Pattinson fans' will be translated and then everybody talks about it. And because I am on Twitter they tag my name so my whole Twitter-feed is full.

He has a kind of rebellious charisma and he is a handsome guy and he is a very good actor. So I believe he is going to be really good."
UPDATE:
Martin also spoke about Rob and Brimstone in REVU Magazine.

Our lovely reader, Marjanne, fixed up this translation for us. Thank you! xx
What is your best pitch for Brimstone?
“A film like this does not exist yet. When people ask me with what you can compare it, then I have no answer. And I really did see a lot of movies. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time and am convinced that it will be good. So bring it on, the expectations can not be high enough.”

Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska; how did you get such an impressive cast?
“I have send my script to numerous agencies in Hollywood. Everywhere I got the same answer: “We’re going to read it next week.” But they never did. A fellow producer of my business partner had given my script to read to Des Hamilton, a big casting director from England, and he was enthusiastic immediately. This story was going to explode in Hollywood, according to him. “We’re golden Martin, we’re golden,” he said the whole time. I thought I have to see it before I believe it, as he was approaching the same agents who for months kept me in suspense. The next day my phone was ringing off the hook. I could get every actor I wanted. I had to reject A-list actors and actresses who are really very good, only in my eyes just a little too old for the role I had in mind.”

Question: How did you get Pattinson to join?
Koolhoven: That goes through an agency. I was watching some movies Guy Pearce was in and last year he was in THE ROVER and Pattinson was in there too. So I happened to stumble on that and I fell for that role. It is completely different from his role in Brimstone, but I thought he was really good.

Question: What will he be doing exactly in your movie?
Koolhoven: He will play an outlaw and I'm not going to say more than that. It's a secret.

Question: And all Pattinson fans love you now?
Koolhoven: Yes ha ha ha last night things went crazy and Twitter exploded. People started to talk to me from all over the world in strange languages.

Translation by Eileen (via RobsPromotion and robsfootsteps):
imgboxDE VOLKSKRANT interview with Rob at the Berlinale by Floortje Smith, February 12th 2015: EX TEEN IDOL

Actor Robert Pattinson is used to the Red Carpet, where he, thanks to the Twilight series, was often waylaid by teenage girls. Now he plays a Red Carpet photographer in Anton Corbijn’s LIFE.

One of the first things that director, Anton Corbijn, did after he had cast Robert Pattinson was to put a camera in his hands. In the role of Dennis Stock, photographer of the international photo press bureau Magnum, the camera, he thought, had to become a part of his body. He had another reason: Pattinson had to feel how it is to be behind the camera instead of being in front of it.

The role that Pattinson plays in the new movie of Anton Corbijn, that got a special Gala Screening at Berlin, feels a bit like the world is upside-down. In the movie the world star and teen idol stands in between the photographers at the Red Carpet where in real life the 28 year old actor is waylaid by photographers.

Life is about the complicated relationship between the relatively unknown David Stock and the Hollywood star James Dean. Stock did an iconic photo shoot with Dean in 1955. He is the man behind the world famous picture of James Dean on Times Square in which he walks straight at the camera huddled in a dark coat, cigarette in his mouth. Stock met Dean (played by Dane DeHaan) just before his big break. A photo shoot could help both of their careers, he reasoned.

photo 10991320_1596966767203895_8733652666856544602_n.jpgPattinson felt an immediate connection with Stock. ‘A tragical figure really’, he says in a hotel room in Berlin. Would it have not been more logical for Anton Corbijn to have him cast as James Dean? If someone knows how it feels to be famous from one day to another it’s him. Because of his role as Edward Cullen in the fantasy film series Twilight his life changed into a chaos of screaming teenage girls and paparazzi.

“Still it cannot be compared”, emphasizes the actor. “People look at James Dean as if he is some kind of spiritual leader: tell us how we should live. They never saw me like that.”

Life is set in the weeks before the premiere of James Dean’s debut movie ‘East of Eden’ (1955). Everybody predicted that he would become world famous. The actor realizes that ‘everything around it’ is just as important as acting and that the studio has him in its claws. It suffocates him. That is something Pattinson doesn’t recognize: “We had no idea that Twilight would become so successful. Only the week before its release we saw a growing interest on the internet.” When the craziness exploded Pattinson found it all very surrealistic. “I had no expectations of what would happen, so I didn’t get disillusioned as Dean did. I see it as a door that opened, I didn’t know what was on the other side, but I was curious and took a look. Later I realized that “oh, this is not going away”. The door closed behind me.

Now three years after the release of the last movie the craziness is diminishing. In the movies he is now, he plays small roles, like the role of T.E. Lawrence of Arabia in ‘Queen of the Desert’ by Werner Herzog or the limo driver in Cronenberg’s ‘Maps to the Stars’. According to Anton Corbijn this is where the connection with his role as Stock is. Because Pattinson became popular at such a young age, he now wants to prove himself, says Anton Corbijn. That he plays a photographer who wants to prove himself is an interesting parallel.

In his career Pattinson makes wayward choices that turn out well. If everything goes well with the financing, he will be seen in movies of cult-director Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers, Trash Humpers) and James Gray (We Own the Night, The Immigrant). Pattinson is a huge huge fan of their work. “They were the first directors I personally approached when I noticed that the scripts I wanted to do where not offered to me, so I decided to contact the directors I admire myself.”

This week the news has been released that Robert Pattinson will be in the western-thriller Brimstone by the Dutch director Martin Koolhoven. "The story is fantastic; I have an idea how I want to do it. It's a dangerous role, but I can't say much about it. And the cameraman is the same one as in in 'Rundkop' and I think that movie is fantastic."

In the meantime Koolhoven is getting crazy of the messages he gets on Twitter from Pattinson fans worldwide. It is hard to imagine all these teenage girls watching a Harmony Korine movie. Pattinson: “I do not know very well what my fans like. I remember that I had to film a scene (????) with Don DeLillo (the 78 year old author) and he was ambushed by 15 year old girls that wanted him to sign their books. Great. If even only one of them read the book, I have the feeling I did some good.

EIGHT DAYS ON A CAMEL
During the Film Festival in Berlin Robert Pattinson can also be seen as T.E. Lawrence in Werner Herzog’s ‘Queen of the Desert’. A small, but challenging role: with the same role in ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ the actor Peter o’ Toole wrote movie history. During the press screening there were laughs when he first appeared on the screen with the famous keffiyeh on his head. "Eight days on a camel that is about the only thing I remember. If the role would have been bigger, I would not have done it. Werner Herzog made T.E. Lawrence into a funny person. Also I do not look like the real T.E. Lawrence at all."

IMPORTANT NOTE: When in a personal mail Floortje Smith (reporter) is asked about some details, she replies: “He is very cute and nice. Good in Life as well. I’m very curious of what he is going to do next.” She listened to the interview tape again and said: “He said that you never know with small movies you can only be sure when you are on set, but he really really wants to do these movies.” About the Korine project: “That is apparently happening too, but I mean… people… different cast and the budget suddenly changes and all that stuff. But I love the movie. It is great and my part that is completely insane as well.”
