Robenberg bromance never ends! David Cronenberg says Robert Pattinson is an underrated actor, a sweetheart and MORE!
Excerpt from The Daily Beast: David Cronenberg On Soul-Crushing Hollywood, BDSM, and Limo Sex with Robert Pattinson
You and Robert Pattinson have developed an interesting creative partnership. You’re a bit of an odd couple.
We are. Well, first of all, I think he’s a really good actor, and I think he was an underrated actor because of the stiffness and silliness of Twilight and those characters in it. But seeing other work that he had done and seeing that he was a serious actor and looking for challenges, and wasn’t trying to “manage his image” as a star, was attractive to me. And, of course, being such a big celebrity is helpful because it will help your film get financed, but the charisma that made him work so well as Edward Cullen is something you want in a movie like Cosmopolis where he’s in every scene in the movie. You need someone who’s infinitely watchable. But once you’re on the set, he’s just a sweetheart. Totally professional, really accessible, and funny. And a terrific actor. (Tink: MY HEART. Things we know but I NEVER tire of reading or hearing them.)
So I take it you’re not a fan of the Twilight movies.
Well, no, of course not. Look, the series is a huge hit, of course, but it’s young adult fiction and I’m not a young adult. If people are mesmerized by it you can’t argue with it. Not a lot of movies and series have that kind of following. I don’t fault it for that.
Right. Twilight also had a strange chastity/sex is evil message.
Yeah. And you can be sure that Rob was aware of all those things. He’s very well-read, and very well-versed in cinema—which I’m not sure his fans know. (Tink: Ah ah ah. We are veeeeery aware of this side of Rob. Maybe Edward only fans don't know what's up but Rob fans do.) He was very hyper-aware of all those things surrounding those movies.
Your film does have a fun sex scene between Julianne Moore and Robert Pattinson in a limo.
That was fun to shoot! (Tink: And fun to watch!) It requires some athleticism to have sex in a limo for all concerned—including the cameraman—but obviously this isn’t the first time I’ve done a sex scene in a limo, since we did a bit of it in Cosmopolis. In this case it was a real limo, but in Cosmopolis it was a limo-set.
Well Robert seems to have the limo sex thing down, now.
[Laughs] I’ve never asked him how many times he’s had sex in a limo for real. It’s not really my place to ask such a thing. It really just requires the characters to be good actors. Obviously, the sex had a very different tone in this movie because he’s not the star—she’s the star in this movie. He’s just servicing her, and he knows that he’s doing it for his career—he thinks. Whereas in Cosmopolis, he’s the emperor of his limo. (Tink: Master of the universe.)
That was the great thing about this sex scene—it’s a young stud servicing a woman. There aren’t many sex scenes in cinema that feature a woman running the show.
It’s a lovely part of Bruce’s script—that he’s constantly keeping you guessing.

It's party time in the DR! Are you ready??
Well the dark recesses won't be decent by the end because this is the long awaited interview with ROBsessed Award Winner, Patricia McKenzie! Actually you guys didn't know it was long awaited. It was a behind the scenes operation. Back in January, after you voted the Eric and Kendra sex scene in Cosmopolis as Robert Pattinson's Best Sex Scene of 2012, we contacted Patricia McKenzie to congratulate her, send her award and inquire about an interview - specifically about the sex scene. It's what she won the award for so only makes sense we talk about the sex scene.
I didn't know Patricia would be so awesome and answer all 17 of the questions but she did and she answered in detail so we're breaking this up. Give you time to marinate on the answers. This Part is our sweet part, The Sugar. Tomorrow, we'll post The Spice. She apologized for the delay but I think it was meant to be that she sent us her replies during Cosmopolis month for 365DoR! Couldn't have planned that any better. I've jabbered enough. Onwards!

ROBsessed: What was your diet like to prepare for the physically demanding scene?
Patricia McKenzie: Sadly, I kind of peaked before we shot. I had done a three week detox some months before, looked lean for a bit, and figured I'd do it again in time for the love scene. That scene ended up being pushed up a month early so in the three days I had to prepare, I did a partial juice fast, cut down on solid foods, and drank lots of water, just to feel like I was doing something. In the end, I don't think diet really mattered, and in my experience as an actor, no one ever seems to care about any extra pounds on me or anyone else. What an actor is expressing is far more important and interesting to watch than how flat their tummy is.
ROBsessed: Did you and Rob collaborate with David for the scene?
McKenzie: We had a rehearsal on set that morning to try some things, but finally David decided we would do the whole scene while making love, and all in one take which was quite a challenge. My first career was as a dancer, where you rehearse for 8 weeks before stepping onstage. Now, I'm always amazed at how much we as actors have to bring to the table, and be ready to improvise, and how fast the director has to think on his feet to orchestrate it all.
ROBsessed: Is Xanax prescribed for the day to calm nerves? I'm joking ;) kind of
McKenzie: It would have been tempting to have wine before the scene! One of the first film acting jobs I ever had was laced with highly erotic content, and I was young, naive, and an absolute prude. To get through the love scenes they had to ply me with red wine and the director promised me, on the life of her children, that I wouldn't be ashamed of the result. She was an angel, and in hindsight, the scene was very tame. The relationship of an actor to a director is crucial, you have to put all of your faith in their vision, so what made the intimacy in Cosmopolis really easy for me was that I trusted David completely. Rob was a sweetheart as well, very supportive and very professional. From a holistic standpoint, to mentally prepare for an intense day on set, deep breathing saves me every time, as well as a mantra not to judge myself positively or negatively, just to be. "Express, don't impress" is my aspiration.
ROBsessed: How many takes did you have to do because the shot is fairly long and uninterrupted. Was it difficult to be so wordy with such a physical scene?
McKenzie: It was a long, sweaty day, but I like being physical, and I like the heightened awareness everyone has on set during a love scene. Those days have a very different energy from the other days. Yeah, it was lots of fun and a delightful challenge to deal with unconventional dialogue in the heat of passion. I have played various lesbians on Canadian shows for years, so it was a nice change to be partnered with Rob.
ROBsessed: Was the gun heavy? Did you film Eric being tasered?
McKenzie: With so much action, I hardly remember the weight of the gun. We did not film Eric being tasered, Rob really wanted to, and do it for real. Thank goodness, I would hate to have been the one to have to taser him! I've been exposed to all kind of guns on set and they always terrify me.
ROBsessed: Who was stronger? You or Rob?
McKenzie: I think he is a gentleman and would let me win if we wrestled.
ROBsessed: How do you mentally prepare?
McKenzie: Let go of all expectations and go with the moment. There was almost no preparation I could do, although I tried valiantly, and sweated over it for months. I think ultimately my preparation was to let go of needing to feel prepared and just trust.
ROBsessed: Did you suspect Rob fans would find the scene pretty steamy?
McKenzie: I purposely didn't watch any playback so I had no idea what the scene looked like or how people would react, although I had an inkling that people on set seemed to think it was hot, judging by the way everyone came out of the woodwork, and gathered around the monitor. Ha Ha. It's all about the scene while I'm working, connecting with my costar, being as truthful and revealing as I can and trying to be compelling. After it was all done, like any actor, I ultimately want approval, so I sweated for a few weeks, hoping people wouldn't abhor my presence in the film, or even worse, that the scene would end up on the cutting room floor! Eventually I always come to the conclusion that other people's opinions of my work or even my sex appeal, are none of my business and my job is to keep any of those concerns out of my mind. But, I have to admit that I am thrilled and amazed to have pleased Rob's discerning and dedicated fans!
ROBsessed: Tell us something we might not know about Rob and David.
McKenzie: They are two of the sweetest men in Hollywood. Both are extremely humble in person and lack pretension. I felt very comfortable around both of them. David Cronenberg gave me a big hug the first time I ever saw him, and he said he was happy to finally meet me, which was so disarming, charming and fatherly. I think that is when I fell in love, because I will give everything to a director that makes me feel as safe and protected as a child. And Cronenberg is so patient. He gives everyone on set all the time they need to do their best work, and speaks quietly to keep the atmosphere on set very calm and enjoyable. David was also very patient with my fawning over him at the warp party, because I was so appreciative of his work style I just couldn't help gushing like a schoolgirl with with a crush, very embarrassing in retrospect. I didn't expect Rob to be so tall, and so charming. Everyone loved him on set. He can carry his own in any conversation and takes pains to make others feel at ease. He is very down-to-earth and low-key, the kind of guy that just chills with his dog, or with a pint. What's his dogs name, Bear? I'm pretty sure I remember that from playing with him, although it's possible I heard the name somewhere, but anyone who calls a small dog "Bear" has a good sense of humour. I had two 95lb boxers named Zeus and Troy, that I was missing, so it was fun to play with that friendly little Bear. Anyway, I got the impression that he preferred a dark pub, to cruising on a yacht, or anything fancy. He actually called me "fancy" because yes, if there's an occasion, I may prefer boating to beers on a hot summer day, but otherwise, I like to stay home and immerse myself in my own world.
Let's have it all! Boating WITH beers but awwwwwww don't you love what Patricia shared?? I mean seriously. Down-to-earth, low key, gentlemanly, charming, everyone loved him, dog lover, sweetheart, professional, supportive, humble....GAH! We know these things about Rob already but how much do you love it when they're consistently expressed??
Tomorrow? Part 2: The Spice....*wink* Patricia breaks down the modesty patches used (not used?) and more! I'm being such a tease.

- Since no private questions are allowed he was asked what he thinks of Kristens sexy outfits on the premieres in LA and London and he answered, it's impossible for a woman to be too sexy and at last what he thinks of Kristens outfit today in Berlin, he answered it's great and beautiful.
- Rob was talking about Kristens gown in Berlin. First he was asked what outfit he is going to wear to top Kristens glamores robe on the red carpet in Berlin- he is going to wear anything :-) Ok this one was funny but they didn´t deserved it. The whole thing was all about K/R and their breakup or not blablaba not worth to translate. The to sexy thing was made to a question about the red carpet appearances of Kristen in LA and London, his answer: a woman could never be to sexy.

UPDATE: Rob talks to Rhianna: Rob tells the reporter to go to therapy, foreshadows his future with a daughter (SO funny), naming her Robert, knows he can rely on his mom to be the one to see his indies, is trying to get Kanye West to do a red carpet with him because he's a Twilight fan, and talks about his accent.
ITN: Rob is impressed by the name squat thrust, doesn't mind sexy scenes and feels more rewarded with being paid to have sex than the reality of sex. He is beyond funny. Also, gives love to James Bond and thinks he looks stupid holding a gun. NOT TRUE, ROB.
The Morning: GREAT interview! Rob says guys should go to BD2 because of the sex scenes and they can see how it's done, hilarious face when the interviewer talks about "diving down under", talks about the skydiving videotape (Ooooo wish we could see that), and Rob wins an award. Really fun and cute interview. Rob is sprinkled throughout Kristen and Taylor's.
MagicFM: Rob talks about being embarrassed by his New Moon shirtless scene, Rob prefers David or Frank over RPattz, talks about the infamous time he was photographed buying underwear (LARGE), he wears boxers but LAWD is he for real or joking about the briefs??? LOL

MTV: Meanwhile Robert Pattinson has been describing the vampire sex in the film as "ridiculous" in recent interviews.
(Kate: Well we all know that's NOT actually what he said and thankfully so does Stephenie)
Meyer: Yeah I saw that. I think he was talking about how it was so hard to keep a straight face [during that scene]. (Kate: EXACTLY) For the actors, there are 40 people in the room and most of them are inches away from you. It's a kind of awkward menage-a-forty going on. I think when you see the scene it's a testament to their acting ability that you don't see any of that in that moment at all.

Robert Pattinson talks about Cosmopolis sex scenes, Mission: Blacklist, The Rover, Breaking Dawn Part 2, WaxRob and McDonalds
From Metro (UK):
He’s Britain’s second-richest under-30 actor behind Daniel Radcliffe, worth a fortune of more than £30millio. He’s one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in The World. He’s the Sexiest Man In The World. But he’s made a huge mistake.
‘Sorry, I just had a McDonald’s!’ laughs Robert Pattinson. ‘My stomach’s going, “Raaargh!” I always think McDonald’s is a good idea. It’s never been a good idea.’
Now would be a great time to forget what you think you know about Pattinson. Forget the fame, the money, the daft awards, the vampire movies, the screaming tweens, the are-they-aren’t-they? thing with Kristen Stewart. Not only is film-maker David Cronenberg’s arty, sexy, talky new psychothriller Cosmopolis possibly the weirdest movie of the year, it gives us a new kind of Robert Pattinson. He plays a bored multi-billionaire traveling across Manhattan in a white stretch limo to get a haircut. Only he gets a little more than that. En route, he’ll have been screwed by Oscar-winning French actress Juliet Binoche and a gun-toting prostitute (Tink: Poor reporter is a nitwit. So sad. The "prostitute" is Eric's bodyguard.), mobbed by protestors and hit in the face with a cream pie, stalked, shot and divorced. No hair-gelled bloodsuckers. No werewolves in cut-off jeans.
‘This is one of the first movies that I’m in where I can watch it and not just want to kill myself,’ says the actor, who was stunned when Canadian meastro Cronenberg called him for the role. ‘I was really, really nervous until we started doing it. And I didn’t know there were going to be sex scenes. It said, “They just had sex” in the script. And both days David was like, “I think they should be having sex during the scene.” Okay...! David said, “Don’t worry. Let’s just start and see what happens.’
What happened was the darkest, smartest performance of Pattinson’s career, which has trampolined in a series of truly bizarre ups and downs. His big-screen debut as Reese Witherspoon’s son in period drama Vanity Fair was left on the cutting-room floor. He scored a role in a biggest teen franchise in the world (Harry Potter). He got fired from a play in London and spent a year and a half as a couch-surfing out-of-work actor in Los Angeles. He scored a role in the biggest teen franchise in the world (Twilight).
Five years ago, he was nobody. Now he’s so famous he may never go for a beer in public again. He turned 26 last month and he can feel it, the change, something lost, something gained. ‘I’m quite sensitive to people,’ he says. ‘You pick up on moods quicker, I think. I’m also really good at sensing if someone is around. It’s weird, it’s like a sixth sense. I always know if someone’s taking a picture as well.’
Those spidey-senses have been tingling off the hook. Inevitably, fame has been a drain for Pattinson. ‘You see people just taking a picture casually at a different table,’ he laughs, with a shrug. ‘I’ve got into the habit now of going up to people with my phone with the flash on and just start taking pictures two inches away from their face.’
It’s not Rob they want, of course. It’s Edward Cullen. It’s ‘R-Pattz’. He was literally replaced when Madam Tussauds gave him a waxwork. A really, really terrible waxwork. ‘It looks like Hugh Jackman,’ he exclaims. ‘I think it IS Hugh Jackman – they’ve just smushed it in a bit.’
Or maybe it’s the inner Pattinson, the one who feels melted by the Twi-light. ‘If you get famous, you can really buy into it, then you go nuts. But I never really felt comfortable going, “Yes, I’m famous!” I don’t know why.’
His bold, charismatic remoulding in Cosmopolis, then, couldn’t have come at a better time. On November 16, the final Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn Part II, will be released – and so will Pattinson, he hopes, from the hysteria of Stephenie Meyer’s teen saga.
Can he give us a reason to watch it? ‘It’s really funny, the last one,’ he chuckles. ‘I mean, funny and completely insane. There’s Jacob is falling in love with my daughter, who grows into an 11-year-old in three months! There were so many scenes where it felt so bizarre.’
Five years, four movies, a bit of hair gel and a lot of crying and screaming later, Pattinson is ready to bust out the Twilight zone. Next up he has a crime thriller by hotshot director of Oz gangster drama Animal Kingdom (‘Guy Pearce kidnaps me and I’ve been shot. It’s like, crazily violent’) and psychological drama Mission: Black List, playing the US military interrogator who found Saddam Hussein (‘Some of the stuff in it is just unbelievably insane’). (Tink: Eeeeeeee! EXCITE!)
There’s just one last problem he needs to fix: how to get people to stop calling him R-Pattz... ‘Yeah, I don’t know how to get rid of that,’ he sighs. ‘It is the most annoying thing. I don’t know who invented it. This thing with nicknames, everybody loves nicknames, it’s so irritating. But it’s too catchy...’

UPDATE: One of our readers, Christine, sent in the Russian translation of the Cosmopolis review in June issue of Phychologies below :) Thanks Christine!
Cronenberg’s latest films from the point of view of thought and influence could not compare with his “Crash” “Fly” and “Dead Zone” but in Cosmopolis the “action Psychologist” shows his previous might. In the screen adaptation of the novel by Don DeLillo-a post modernist novelist (or American umberto eco) he creates the image of modern world- the world with every technological comfort but which is full of violence. Protesting against universal functionality/purposefulness is a young billionaire-never leaving Manhattan, in just 24 hours he loses all his material and social assets and acquires a real “self”. And wonderful actor -Pattinson, whose talent showed even playing a young vampire, creates the image of a whole generation of baby boom children-young people feeling they should be billionaires just by the right of birth in the environment of “Golden Billion”. Cosmopolis- , expressive, gloomy/impenetrable without illusions -it mostly reminds us of Edvard Munch’s painting "The Scream” and you should agree that not often do we feel like comparing modern films with real pieces of art.Christine also notes that the ranking of 4 stars is the maximum and the translation says this level equaled "brilliant". :))))

She’s talking about Cosmopolis, a film which is highly expected. It’s from David Cronenberg. The film is awesome and it’s impossible to explain the book’s storyline. It’s just art. She can say exactly what it’s about.Cosmopolis was also reviewed in a Russian publication and we have an excerpt from that as well as the ranking...4 stars!
She finally said that it’s set in New York and we have future and past moments. It’s about a golden boy’s fall out and he’s foreseeing his own murder. It’s very confusing. The trailer is so gorgeous she absolutely wanted to talk about it. There’s a lot of stars in it and there’s the gorgeous and charming Robert Pattinson. He’s from the Twilight Saga.
What’s surprising is the rating of the film because there’s a lot of sex in it.
Wonderful actor Pattinson creates an image of the entire generation…Cosmopolis is impenetrable and expressive.I believe the source will translate the rest tomorrow but thought the excerpt was great to share now. Juliette Binoche Talks "Cosmopolis" & Working With Robert Pattinson
Juliette Binoche did interviews recently with Vanity Fair & ArtInfo and mentioned "Cosmopolis" and her make out scene with Robert Pattinson
Oooh it's feeling hot in here all of a sudden
First up Vanity Fair:
Let’s talk about your upcoming David Cronenberg–directed film, Cosmopolis, which stars Robert Pattinson. What’s your role?
I’m an art dealer. I only shot two days. The whole film takes place in a car. There are some scenes outside, but mostly it takes place in a limo. Cronenberg placed Robert on one seat, and I was the mover in the scene, so he let me improvise.(Kate: o.O Bet that wasn't too hard) It was fascinating to see how they would take time to light the car. It was like an art form almost, a painting. His [cinematographer], Peter Suschitzky, is very precise in that way.
Robert was stunned to be taken by Cronenberg, because he didn’t think he could do it. (Kate: Silly Rob. We knew he could do it!)But Cronenberg believed in him. It’s amazing—a director sometimes makes you do bigger things than you imagine. You need to have, like, a midwife to give birth. You need this midwife in order to grow, and imagine these new layers in yourself.
Next up Juliette spoke to ArtInfo
I’ve seen a little bit of you in “Cosmopolis.” You’re in the car, wearing a little black dress, making out with Robert Pattinson. (Kate: *fans self*)
Who do you play?
I play an art dealer who’s been a lover of Robert Pattinson’s character for a few years. Throughout the whole film she has this kind of sexual moment that Cronenberg always puts in his films. Then at the end she’s feeling alone and left out. I don’t know how long the scene is – (Kate: I'd say it was difficult to keep track of time alright) maybe four minutes – but it’s like a lifetime, (Kate: Oooooh 4 mins with Rob. Then again I'm greedy, 4 mins wouldn't be enough) a relationship kind of starting and ending.
Was it exciting working with Cronenberg?
Yes, though it was only two days shooting. It’s always interesting wondering whether you’re being taken into a film, or whether you’re taking the director into it. When you work with great directors, you never know who starts it. Being stuck in a limo means you have to use your imagination. So Cronenberg played Robert in one spot and after that he let me do what I wanted, and when he was satisfied we stuck with that. He was precise language-wise, but otherwise he let me be, emotionally. It was good.

From The Mirror(Elle Style Awards):
Christina Ricci is promising Twi-hards (Tink: *sigh*) a hefty slice of R-Patz pie in new movie Bel Ami... revealing that the Twilight star is naked throughout: “You get to see a lot of Rob in the movie,” she told me at Elle. “Twi-hards? Is that what they’re called? (Tink: No Christina but the media is moronic and thinks Rob fans are only Twilight fans.) Yeah they will be happy; he’s naked most of the time. I was pretty relaxed about the nudity. I’m pretty happy with who I am now; that comes with age, as you know your body. Like most women, I have bad days but I try to eat healthily and work out and that’s what it’s about.”

What do you do in Cosmopolis, the next David Cronenberg?Original transcript:
I make love in the limo! Belonging to Robert Pattinson, fabulously wealthy man who wants it all and loses it all! It sounds like Cronenberg, doesn't it? Director of photography, Peter Suschitzky, lights up each shot like a painting. Robert and I were alone in the car with a camera and a microphone, and we could hear David's voice coming from a distance: we would redo a take, then another one, etc. There was something clinical about it, which for me was a change from Amos Gitai or Abel Ferrara.
Que faites-vous dans Cosmopolis, le prochain David Cronenberg ?I'm so thrilled to see Rob acting with Binoche. As well as Giamatti. His character's relationship with Kevin Durand (Torval) also excites me. Plus seeing what he does with Morton, Gadon, Baruchel...hell, everyone! Super cast. :)

Oh God...this movie can't come soon enough...
Recently she finished filming Bel Ami with the all-star cast of Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Robert Pattinson. Playing the role of a prostitute, a lustful sex scene unfolds with Twilight’s sparkling vampire, Robert Pattinson. “It’s actually harder to do sex scenes when they’re intimate but when I’m just a prostitute who he’s banging, it’s fun sex, you can have a lot of fun with it.” In between takes the pair were laughing and encouraging each other to “groan louder, louder”.

Robert Pattinson On Breaking Dawn, Berlin, Babies & More
Robert Pattinson spoke to BZ in Berlin about how the cool people in the Eastern part of Berlin, the end of Twilight, Family Planning, those sex scenes and MORE
FYI This interview is translated
The 4th segment of the 'Twilight' - Saga is opening in theaters. B.Z. has met Robert Pattinson before the Berlin premiere.
Is it just a PR-gag or are Kristen Stewart (21) and Robert Pattinson (25) a dream couple, even privately? At his Berlin visit for the premiere of 'Breaking Dawn', the 4th part of the 'Twilight'-vampire saga, Pattinson did not deny being with Kristen. Unfortunately she couldn't come herself, because she's currently shooting Snow White. Even if something, which the fans had waited long for, finally happens: The birth of their child. Privately however, Stewart and Pattinson are a long way from it, as he tells Markus Tschiedert in this interview.
Mr. Pattinson, you were in Berlin for the movie 'Water for Elephants' only in April. Doesn't the city get boring for you?
Not at all! I love Berlin and I've also been on holidays here a few times. The first time was when I was 18, which has been a while. I was especially impressed with the eastern part of the city because there were galleries everywhere and bands played for free. I don't know if it's still like that now, but you could do a lot with little money back then in Berlin.
Nowadays you probably won't be able to walk through the streets of "Berlin Mitte" and Prenzlauer Berg anymore without being recognized...
No, I haven't had that experience yet. If you know whereto, and I'm certainly not going to spill that now, people will let you be. Especially in the eastern part they're too cool to talk to me. [laughs] (Kate: More fool them LOL)
Even if the final installment of the 'Twilight'-saga is going to open in theaters next year, you've already wrapped. How hard was the farewell to you?
My last day of shooting was with Kristen in the Caribbean on the beach and in the sea, which was very pleasant. It was my first time ever to be in the Caribbean, so I treasure this memory.

The print is horribly small on the scans so I transcribed some of the newer bits for you. Interview took place during Comic Con:
After the interviewer asked Rob about filming the sex scene, Rob made a comment that I found insane.
Lick and save because it's not staying up. I just had a relapse into the deepest darkest recesses, that's all.
Let's continue...IF you can tear your eyes away.
My eyes are now cross because I essentially transcribed this whole article. Even when it's old quotes, Rob is still so compelling and I just couldn't stop.

The print is horribly small on the scans so I transcribed some of the newer bits for you. Interview took place during Comic Con:
Interviewer: Do you look forward to the hype all being over and you can get back to doing other things?
Rob: Yeah but it's always a good thing to have a bit of hype, especially nowadays. But I don't know. I will be interested to see how people perceive me in a couple of years because it seems as though people have been talking about the same stuff about me for about three years now, so I am wondering how long that will go on for (Tink: Me too...). But I don't really know how to predict anything.
Interviewer: How is it professionally for you right now, because I guess you are looking for roles post-twilight, so what kind of scripts are you getting? Do you still feel you are trapped in that role, or are you being offered things that are allowing you to expand your repertoire?
Rob: I'm kind of in the same position. I guess the good thing is that because Twilight is so specific, and Edward is such a specific character...I've just realized my flies are undone (zips flies), that's a bit embarrassing...(Tink: *distracted*)...yeah he's so specific that you can't really get typecast; there are only so many parts that are benevolent vampires. You would be insane to do another one afterwards. Every single thing I've done since has seemed very difference, because it's almost impossible to do the same or something like that, everyone will say that you are doing the same movie if you ever do an action movie again, but I just don't have to do a benevolent vampire movie again or vampire love story.
Interviewer: Would you like to direct a movie?
Rob: Yeah, maybe. I would like to write stuff. I would really like to be a script doctor, that would be my ideal job, you get all the fun, creative stuff - all the parts of acting that I really like are really just figuring out how to make a script that doesn't work, work, (Tink: *snicker* Know who I'm thinking about?) and I would like to do that for other projects but you have to write some stuff first to get into that industry.
Interviewer: After comparing raising a child to raising a puppy the interviewer says: Trust me, it's nothing like having a puppy.
Rob: That's what I keep saying in other interviews that, "It's just like raising a dog, it's the same thing. You've just got to leave it alone and tell it to go tot the toilet outside." (Tink: LOL! He's too funny...can't you hear him saying this in his joking mimic voice?)
After the interviewer asked Rob about filming the sex scene, Rob made a comment that I found insane.
Rob: I don't know, it's strange, trying to do anything that's a singular even that everyone is expecting, but at the end of the day, with sex, watching other people have sex is never going to be that spectacular - hopefully it will be kind of good. It's a strange thing when there is so much hype about it so that you're like 'God, I hope this lives up to it.' (Tink: Right. Rob is not spectacular here. In no way spectacular. That back and....everything else is as boring as celery.)
Lick and save because it's not staying up. I just had a relapse into the deepest darkest recesses, that's all.
Let's continue...IF you can tear your eyes away.
Interviewer: What about the childbirth scene? That's pretty spectacular in the book. That's pretty horrific. After Rob talks about the increase of haters when you get well known for something, he says:
Rob: Yeah, I think that one is much more difficult to not make R-rated than the sex scenes. I mean, you see sex scenes in PG-13 films the whole time, you just turn the light down really low and it's a PG-13 (Tink: Oooooooooh...THAT'S why Rob's sex scenes are always so dark...and we all lighten them up LOL).
(Tink: Demonstration of lighter...)
Rob: It was horrible doing it. And especially because we did it with a real baby as well so almost immediately after this horrible - I don't know if you would call it a Caesarian, this chewing through the placental thing. I don't know, it was absolutely bizarre - then being covered in cream cheese and jelly to look like...it was just horrible holding this baby. The baby was only about three months old, or two months - it was really young, maybe even only two weeks old, so I was like, "What a horrible introduction - this baby is never going to be an actor, ever."
Interviewer: I always wonder about mother who put their babies up for things like that.
Rob: She was just really nice. She was very calm about everything, just watching everything. People are so careful about everything, you'd be crazy not to be. I remember it being really cold on the set that day, so that was the one thing that I felt insanely nervous about - I had told everyone to put in all these heaters everywhere which steamed up all the windows and ruined the whole shot, but there was this poor baby having to have jam on its head and cream cheese on its head as well. I was like, "I'm really sorry! Please don't blame me for this!" (Tink: Could he BE any sweeter?)
But also the great thing about Twilight fans is that they are all very, very vocal and they are very protective about stuff, so you always have an army of people defending you. (Tink: Damn right!)The interviewer concludes with asking him how Comic Con has been and Rob says he wanted an Excalibur replica...LOL
Interviewer: It's like a sports team.
Rob: Yeah, it's like a team, that's exactly what it is with celebrities: people have fun hating on them and people have fun supporting them, it's just the way it is. It's really strange.
Interviewer: Do you ever look up stuff on the internet? Or do you totally avoid reading anything about yourself?
Rob: Sometimes, mainly for practical purposes, like if you feel like you have said something stupid you go and check to see what the backlash is about to see if I have to do another interview to dissipate that. It's always mainly just damage control all the time.
Interviewer: In hindsight, what do you think the importance or the value of the twilight franchise will be, looking back at it? What has it brought to our society, as it is so influential to the youth?
Rob: I think anything that gets young people reading is one thing that is pretty important. That was the same thing when I did Harry Potter: it's kind of amazing, but Harry Potter completely changed everything. I don't remember kids talking about books, and the young adult genre was so much smaller before Harry Potter, and thing like Twilight and Harry Potter just exploded. And also, in terms of the movies, doing things for a female audience - that changed things as well. I don't think it has really changed things yet but it made people in the industry aware that women - just solely women - are a legitimate audience for movies, which in a strange sort of way, is good for guys as well because I think the industry got convinced that the only people who go to the cinema were teenage boys, so every single movie that came out was directed towards them, but it you start making movies for women, it will eventually dissipate into just making dramas again - just non-action movies - because people think they are girly movies, and they are the movies I like! (Tink: phew! Take a breather, Rob. Great answer though. Mr. Reader Man of course loves that the kids are reading and I love that he gives women a shout out for being the driving force for the billion dollar series.)
My eyes are now cross because I essentially transcribed this whole article. Even when it's old quotes, Rob is still so compelling and I just couldn't stop.
