It’s almost 4:00 O’clock in the afternoon, and we’re in Cannes, France, one of the most important Film Festivals in the world, to which stars like Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Salma Hayek often attend… now also our dear Robert Pattinson. When he arrives for our interview he’s very kind and smiley, though a little nervous due to the fans who pass by to watch, or who have approached him. This guy really has his feet on the ground, and the compliments from so many gils haven’t changed the way he is. Good for him!

About his ghostly return…

Now that we’re settled, we start to chat, and the obvious question is: What will we see in New Moon?, considering Edward is not very much in it.
“I think you will be surprised. This movie is very different from Twilight. Visually, it’s very different: the first movie looked and felt like and indie movie, it had a low budget. New Moon is something larger, more polished, with a visual style that resembles oil paintings, and it’s very cool. You can definitely feel the masculine energy. There’s more special effects and action too.

He shares about his return to the saga: “I think I’m doing way better than I did in the first movie” (he laughs. He laughs a lot, actually) “I think, playing Edward gave me the opportunity to get better at my own work. Plus, the dramatic arch of the character gets more complicated. In the first movie he talks a lot about doing the right thing for Bella, but it’s now when he makes a drastic decision. He knows he’s making a big mistake, and he tries to make it up for it. Internally, he’s a very interesting character.”

As the interview gets a more serious tone, the giggles and laugh appear again as soon as we ask him if this movie is more about Jacob Black and the wolfpack. Jacob is the hero now: “Let’s say he is. That’s the way it was written in Stephenie’s novels”. And you’re not jealous? “No” he answers and starts cracking up, “the truth is, no; in fact I like that I’m a supporting role. When you don’t have the responsability of carrying the whole movie by yourself, the pressure is less, and that’s a relief. When we did Twilight I was very stressed out and nervous; now I finally enjoyed the filming of the movie and that was a great pleasure, because it was a stress-free environment. I could take a few days off and have a vacation, for instance, when we went to Italy.”

He believes his popularity will pass.

Without a doubt, life has changed too much for Rob since he took the role of Edward Cullen. The first time our magazine spoke with him he already had a lot of fans, and when he came to Mexico it was a total mad house, remember? Now that he’s a world star he lost his privacy. Has it been hard adapting to this new life? “I don’t know! I honestly don’t know!” he answers with absolute honesty “it’s about taking things as they come. There’s no point in struggling against everything that’s happening because it will still happen anyway. Even 3 months ago I still got a little paranoid with all the attention, but I’m more relaxed and peaceful now: it’s alright. I try to work as much as I can and trying to focus on the good things that have come out of this situation.

Having to deal with everyone wanting to approach you everywhere can be very irritating. They talk to you like they know you, many of them demand your attention, and if you don’t pay attention to them, they won’t leave you alone. But it’s a change in my life that I have to adapt to” he resigns himself, “that’s life, a series of ups and downs. I think one day they will stop paying attention to me, and I hope that happens”. Don’t count on that, Rob, sorry! (magazine’s words, not mine lol).

So you never wanted to have this many fans screaming for you? We ask curiously, as he laughs, embarrassed: “No, definitely not. I always wanted to be an actor and have some sort of recognition, but not a fame like this, I swear! I think all of this has got more to do with the Twilight saga than with me. Having fans screaming when they see me feels almost like a joke. It’ll pass, because these things are over sooner or later. The day will come when nobody is going to scream at the sight of me.”

A very busy vampire

“Before filming Twilight, I had already signed on for two movies that are yet to be filmed. Since the release of Twilight I’ve received many scripts, but I haven’t liked any of them as much as I liked the first scripts I accepted; plus, with the Twilight saga I’m committed for two years more.”

And Kristen?

Bringing up the topic of Kristen is not easy; in fact, we’re hoping we won’t get kicked out of the interview. Fortunately our question is done without further problems… It’s still gets Rob in trouble, who stutters. Oops! We made him nervous!
“Uh…well… she has gone exactly through the same thing I went through, so she understands me. Since the beginning we’ve been very good friends, and she’s an extraordinary person and the best actress I know, so I’ve always had a very special connection to her” he says.
Whether or not they’re dating, only they know. Time will tell.

'New Moon' Poses The Question: Is Edward Cullen A Jerk?
Robert Pattinson faces our lighthearted inquiry and defends his character's case.

BEVERLY HILLS, California — Millions of women all over the world dream of being held in his arms. He's strong, handsome, charming and endearingly old-fashioned. But several scenes in the upcoming film "New Moon" seem to reveal a different side of Robert Pattinson's iconic character, moments that raise an intriguing question: Is Edward Cullen a jerk?

From uncool parking practices, to stalking, to abandoning his loved one in a time of need, perhaps the 108-year-old vampire needs a class in modern etiquette. For more on the topic, we took the spoiler-free evidence straight to RPattz himself for an all-in-good-fun investigation:

A Volvo Faux Pas? - It's not giving anything away to say that the first time we see Edward in "New Moon," Bella is watching him park his car in the Forks High lot. Pulling in sideways, he takes up three spaces (!) and then struts toward the camera defiantly. "Yeah," Pattinson laughed when asked if taking up multiple spots is a dick move. "I didn't help the situation much [with the strut], either. I always thought [parking like that] was a little strange myself." Blaming director Chris Weitz's instructions for the shot that was meant to make Edward look more cool than cocky, RPattz tried to defend Edward. "I think [he did it] because that was the only spot, there weren't any other spots available," he offered, insisting it looks better on film to drive across multiple spaces than to execute a three-point turn between parked cars. "It would be less of a dramatic entrance if I'm, like, backing up into something."

Please Stay 100 Yards Away From Bella - A critic once called Edward "one of modern fiction's best candidates for a restraining order," and after watching the "New Moon" movie, it's hard to disagree. He spies on her while she sleeps, gets angry when she sees friends he doesn't approve of, keeps deceiving her dad — and even when they're broken up, his apparition watches Bella's every move. "I guess that's what the story is about in 'New Moon'," RPattz admitted. "I love Charlie — Bella's dad's — attitude toward Edward in this one; he never gives him a break about anything, he's just constantly saying, 'That guy. He's just terrible for you.' " Dramatically, however, Pattinson said that a court decree to stay apart wouldn't make for a very romantic movie. "I guess the restraining order wouldn't really be very good for anyone," he joked. "But [Bella] could use a restraining order. I think if [Edward] wasn't a vampire, and this was in reality, a girl's parents would think he was an oddball."

Love 'Em and Leave 'Em - Sure, there are extenuating circumstances, but here are the facts: He told Bella he loved her and in the new movie he dumps her and splits for Italy. Not cool, Eddie, not cool. "One of the main things I felt [while filming the breakup scene] was what fans think of Bella and Edward's relationship, what that represents to them as the ideal relationship," Rob said, admitting he felt like he was being a jerk to all the female Twilighters when he dumped Bella. "You're breaking up the ideal relationship. I felt a lot of the weight behind that ... you could really feel the audience watching as you're doing it."

We attended the Cannes Film Festival when we were told we were going to interview the It Vampire. Yes, Robert Pattinson! After a very hectic year, he took the time to walk the red carpets and enjoy the glamour of the rold’s most famous Film Festival. When we arrived to the place where the interview would take place, we still could not believe we were going to talk to him. Outside his hotel there were thousands of fans waiting for him. He’s the guy of the moment and the first thing he tells us when we meet him is that he still can’t believe this is happening to him. According to our chat, he considers himself a normal guy and he swears he has a very boring life. So on top of being increadibly handsome, this guy is adorable and down to earth. How can you not fall in love with him?

Robert, how do you feel today that so many girls around the world dream about you?
Honestly, I think it’s all part of the illusion of filmmaking. I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary to be so famous. It all comes down to those five minutes of emotions that you give to people and that’s nice to feel. It’s part of the magic and everything that comes from making movies.
The expectations, the dreams, the fantasies; it’s all an illusion. I’m a very normal guy, I can promise you that.

Do you enjoy the glamour of this profession, walking down red carpets?
Yes, I love traveling all over the world and being at a Festival like Cannes. Having those five minutes of Glamour and excitement is amazing, as long as I can have my normal life back. Those are the moments that you can only have making movies and you have to enjoy them. But the best part of it is when you go home (laughs).
What has been the most difficult part of being so famous?
Facing crowds. I’m very shy. The fact that I have to walk down the strees and knwoing that people will recognize me and scream my name is something that makes me a bit paranoid. I can’t be anywhere for over 20 minutes, because with the Internet and how fast news travel, I become surrounded by paparazzi and fans.

Tell us the truth, has being famous helped you get more girls?
(laughs) Yes and no. At first, girls can feel attracted to that, but then they realise you’re a real human being, with flaws and qualities, and there can be a certain disappointment. Many times girls find out that everything about you was just a fantasy. I think, in the end, I’m just like any other guy. I can’t be what everybody else wants me to be, I’m just me. And you can find many girls that have preconceived ideas of you, or imaginary things and that can be a problem, because when people find out you’re not really like that, they are disappointed. I have to confess that before making this movie I believed that the being famous could help me get more girls, but then I realized that is not as easy as I thought it was. In the end, if you like a girl, you still have to work hard at winning her over! (laughs)

What other things did you have to learn?
That I have to be very careful with what I say and the information I share. I’ve learned not to share too much. But that’s a life lesson that anyone can learn from. You have to think things through before you open your mouth.

Besides being an actor, what’s your dream job?
Being a pianist. Music fascinates me, I love it. It’s my passion. And I think I could’ve been very happy with being close to a piano and make a living out of it.

Are you aware that this is the moment in which your life is going to change forever? Thanks to this saga you’ll get any role you want.
I know, but sometimes I try not to think too much about it because it scares me to death. I feel that things are happening so fast and I have to constantly choose without having any time to analyze, because if I do, I might miss my chance to do it. You can’t be an actor who can afford to wait five years to do his next movie if he feels like it. You have to find the best job for you in the next months, otherwise, the industry and the people will forget very quickly about you. So you make a comitment to stay eficient and quick when you’re going to choose what’s next. When you have nothing to lose, it’s great, because you just accept the challenge and try to make it work. But when you really want a long term career and build a good image, all of this becomes a very stressful thing.

Speaking of the future, what would you like that new Moon gave to your career?
I want more than the film being succesful, to have more freedom to choose other projects that I want to do later. That’s why I hope the movie does great. That’s how the industry works, and to be able to do what I like to do things need to be able to go well and succeed, right?

People talks all the time about how wonderful you are. Do you agree?
Not really (laughs). The truth is that I was refusing to audution for this role for months because after reading the book I thought it made no sense to show up, I swear! To me, who ever played Edward had to be some sort of model, with the perfect body and someone who was able to do the most physical performance. And I don’t see myself that way at all. So I thought “Fine, I’ll go to the audition, I’ll be myself, and that’s the best thing I can do”. I never thought I would get the lead.

Rob has no luck in love. He said “I’ve never really fallen in love, but I try to be a sromantic as possible. A year ago I could’ve walked up to any girl and neither would’ve been interested. I’m looking for someone with character. If I ever find her, you know what I would do? I would write her hundreds of love letters”.

Is is true that to play Edward you had to work out a lot?
Yes, but I realy started with that almost at the end of the movie. And I did it mostly to feel better about myself. I didn’t just want to have muscles and a perfect six pack, I wanted to be as healthy as possible. That shows in your attitude and in your confidence.

Are you still playing music?
Sure! I played a lot of music in London and I always remember those days when I took a ride in my car and thinking how being a musician was the coolest job in the world. I imagined myself playing in restuarants by the beach, with sunsets next to the ocean. I play the piano since I was five, so music is part of who I am.

Speaking of Edward, what do you think you have in common with him?
I don’t know. I’m very sensitive and shy. I have supernatural powers too (laughs). No, i wish I did. But I’m too normal.

What are we going to see with this new movie?
I can’t say much because it’s a secret. The idea is to surprise people and eventhough it’s based on the books, Chris Weitz gave it his touch, so you have to go see it! What I can assure you is that it will be visually stunning. chris is a genius and he loves to explore the New Moon world to the fullest. You can’t miss it. I haven’t seen it and I’m dying to see it.
