Robert Pattinson's Cannes crusade cheered on and The Rover and Maps To The Stars are highly anticipated
It's quite a welcomed reversal to read increasing numbers of film critics, bloggers and fanboys embracing Rob's film choices and anticipating their release. The Rover and Maps To The Stars will premiere in less than a week and The Playlist has included them in another list - The 15 Most Anticipated Films Of The 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Their remarks about Rob under The Rover were particularly pleasing. :))

Excerpt from The Playlist:
"Maps To The Stars" (dir. David Cronenberg)
Cast: Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams, Robert Pattinson
Synopsis: A twisted Hollywood family—successful self-help magnate Dr. Stafford Weiss and his wife Cristiana, who manages the careers of their burned-out child star kids Agatha and Benjie—come into the orbit of an aspiring actor and a movie star haunted by her dead mother.
What You Need To Know: Two years on from the premiere of the divisive "Cosmopolis," David Cronenberg and star Robert Pattinson are back on the Croisette with a film that seems in many ways a sort of companion to that Don DeLillo adaptation. Penned by Bruce Wagner, it's a long-gestating passion project for the Canadian director, which finally got before cameras last year, and the chance to see him biting the Hollywood hand that intermittently feeds him is certainly an intriguing one, particularly with a cast like this. We're excited to see what Cronenberg newbies Wasikowska, Moore and Williams come up with, and to see Cusack get something substantial to do. The Hollywood satire genre has a dicey track record, but if anyone can make something closer to "Sunset Boulevard" than "An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn," it's Cronenberg, and early footage has been promising, if very much in the chilly milieu of "Cosmopolis," right down to the limo sex.
"The Rover"
Cast: Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson, Scoot McNairy
Synopsis: In a dystopian near future in the Australian outback, a man hunts down the gang of criminals who stole his car, forcing a wounded and abandoned member of the gang to help track them.
What You Need To Know: For a long time “Foxcatcher” was our automatic response to the inevitable “which Cannes movie are you most looking forward to?” question, but in recent days Bennett Miller’s drama may have been overtaken in those stakes by the second film from “Animal Kingdom” director David Michôd, which sees him share writing duties with ‘Kingdom’ star Joel Edgerton. The reasons probably do credit to the blanket marketing tactics that have seen myriad pictures and clips roll out in the last week or so, but the fact is the pictures look that good, and the performances, from Pattinson and from our perennial favorite Guy Pearce look pretty special too, from this distance. In any case, seeing Michôd return to his “Animal Kingdom” themes of brotherhood, masculinity and criminality, but spread against a broader canvas of societal breakdown would be enough to get us in line alone. And whatever the haters have to say about Pattinson, we're rooting for him and hoping that the less-travelled career path he’s chosen post-stardom pays off in no uncertain terms soon. With this and “Maps to the Stars” both playing, maybe Cannes 2014 is the place that will happen for him.
He's coming guys....

The Rover and Maps To The Stars continue to build Cannes Film Festival buzz with Paris Match jumping in to add that the two films from Rob this year are likely to premiere down the Croisette.
Excerpts from the translated Paris Match article:
Who will compete at the 67th Cannes Film Festival, from 14 to 25 May, in Cannes? Paris Match reported on the many suitors while the Gold Award will be officially presented Saturday, May 24
Professionals attending the Festival of Berlin are schizophrenic. Despite the rain of films – nearly 400 in all sections – they have one thing in mind: to know the features that will be ready for Cannes and have a chance to seduce Thierry Fremaux and his team of coaches . We already wish him a lot of courage to oversupply, especially coming from the European continent.
…
Last year, five North American films were in competition, indicates that the link between Hollywood and the Cannes Film Festival is not broken, quite the contrary.Among the regulars of the Croisette, some names are flush:
…
David Cronenberg with “Maps to the Stars” and Robert Pattinson and Julianne Moore dealing with Hollywood…
...
The Cannes Film Festival should reflect all theaters of the world.
…
The Rover by Australian David Michod with Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson…
…
The official selection will be announced in April. The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 14 to 25, with the presentation of the Palme d’Or on Saturday 24, because of the European elections. New Zealand director Jane Campion will be the president of the jury, while ”Grace of Monaco” will open.We certainly look forward to April when the official announcements are made!

CannesRob can't be in Cannes this year because he's going to be here on the blog! Day 1 of our CannesRob fest starts with that charming man in the striped polo dazzling us all. Kate and I (AND Kat!) clearly had something in common...
Kate:
"I feel like a kid in a candy store today. Every pic I look at is better than the next and I’ve changed my choice 3 times already LOL. Cannes Rob 2009 was a sight to behold. Do you remember the madness of the photographers shouting at him? And through it all he stayed smiling and posing like the pro that he is. I love this photoshoot so like I said really hard to choose a pic. In the end I just closed my eyes and randomly chose one. I ended up with this one and I love it ;-)"
Tink:
"that sparkling, easy smile. i feel like i need sunscreen looking at this pic."

An Early Peek at Cannes 2012 Films
Pitt and Pattinson are in while Gosling's a question mark as the festival comes together.
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have a date on the French Riviera. The official lineup of films selected for the 65th Cannes Film Festival won't be revealed until April 19, but the Twilight stars can book their flights because both have movies debuting at the fest, which kicks off May 16. Stewart's invite comes courtesy of On the Road, director Walter Salles' adaptation of the 1957 Jack Kerouac novel that defined the Beat generation, while Pattinson stars in David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, the screen version of Don DeLillo's novel about a fateful day in the life of a wealthy financier. Is anyone doubting at this point? My calendar is already cleared and....

EXCITE! I love the Cannes buzz for Cosmopolis. Indiewire included the film in its wish list titled, The Indiewire Cannes Wish List: 30 Films We Hope Make The Festival's 2012 Lineup:
Cannes is a sort of annual cinematic Olympics, with almost every country vying for spots in the official selection. But with the official 2012 Cannes Film Festival announcement a little over a month away, Indiewire is offering its annual Cannes wish list.
Indiewire's annual Cannes wish list isn't so much about officially predicting the lineup, but rather is a roster of films we hope are finished in time, good enough and invited to the Croisette (though we do muse about what's more likely than others).
Among the candidates are celebrated filmmakers like Woody Allen, Paul Thomas Anderson, Olivier Assayas, Jacques Audiard, David Cronenberg, Xavier Dolan, Matteo Garrone, Wong Kar-Wai, Ken Loach, Terrence Malick, Cristian Mungiu, Francois Ozon and Walter Salles.
Movies that don't get a spot in Cannes (and there will definitely be a few) will immediately become hot topics for a fall fest berth in Venice and/or Toronto. Either way, let the guessing games begin:
....
"Cosmopolis," directed by David Cronenberg
David Cronenberg has been working on a far more restrained note in recent years, exploring the realm of interpersonal relationships without the subversive edge of his earlier films. "Cosmopolis" finds him in more ambitious terrain, adapting Don DeLillo's novel about a hotshot young Wall Street hustler in the near future facing the possibility that he might be the target of an assassination. A dark Cronenberg thriller is reason enough to get excited, but the project takes on a particularly strong amount of curiosity because the leading man role goes to Robert Pattinson (acting opposite Juliette Binoche and Paul Giamatti), who may have finally discovered a director willing to push him in bold new directions. Rob Leaves Vancouver for Cannes
According to LAiMEyHO:
As I reported last week, Friday was Robert Pattinson’s final day on the Vancouver set of New Moon. He’ll resume shooting in Italy soon. Sunday afternoon he was photographed jetting out of Canada en route to Nice, on his way here to Cannes.
Fack.
I left Vancouver and I STILL can’t get away from Twilight.
Apparently Summit, the Twilight production company, to whom he appears to be bound for the next couple of years of his life, is dangling him to seek distribution for several of their upcoming projects. Last time they made him go to Walmart. Needless to say, the Croisette is a significant improvement.
Not known yet if we’ll actually see him climb Les Marches since he doesn’t have a film at the festival but Cannes is famous for these non-official on the beach photo calls for upcoming features where Pattinson would look properly awkward posing to promote a picture that has yet to go into production. Welcome to the hustle! Cannes is all about the hustle.
Cannes is also all about the party. Heard a hilarious story the other night that his cousin is in town and she was at a club on Friday and was holding a table and kept telling the publicists that “Rob is coming” and pointing to her cell phone saying he was texting her so the whole time people were waiting for him to show up even though on Friday he was still working on Vancouver. Sharing bonuses with friends and family. Very cool.
Anyway, he’s here at the same time as the Brange. Can’t wait for the next bullsh-t Life & Style headline:
Angelina leaves Brad Pitt for young Twilight hunk!
