10 Best Tidbits On The 'New Moon' DVD/Blu-ray

1. Rob on Robmania

In part one of the extensive six-part documentary (titled "Life After Twilight"), New Moon's cast talk about the craziness that ensued after the first film debuted and how the fervent fandom changed their lives. Between shots from the Twilight premiere and the infamously raucous Comic-Con panel, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Justin Chon, and more of their co-stars reminisce from the New Moon set on how Twilight changed everything. Best of all, Rob addresses his fans, who have come to worship Edward Cullen so much that they now, as he says, "defend my honor in reality."

2. The cast roasts Chris Weitz

Part 2 of the documentary focuses on New Moon director Chris Weitz, which is really just an opportunity for his actors to gently tease him about everything from his hairiness to the distinguished way he carries himself on set. We get plenty of behind-the-scenes peeks at Weitz's directing style, and it's clear that he's endeared himself to his cast: Lautner calls him a "goofball," Jamie Campbell-Bower accuses Weitz of secretly wanting to be British, and Michael Sheen describes his unshaven-yet-elegant look as "a cross between a wolf and a vampire."

3. Bella runs full-speed into Edward's arms

The doc offers a wealth of footage of nearly every set and big scene in New Moon, but our favorite is the behind-the-scenes footage of Bella's run through the Volterra square that bookends the film. In the movie we only see it in slow-motion, but here you can see what it looks like at full speed: Kristen Stewart pushes her way frantically through the crowd, speeds through the fountain, and nearly knocks Robert Pattinson over as she jumps breathlessly into his open arms.

4. Jacob's parkour scene, sans special effects

Taylor Lautner may have been wired for safety when he leapt and twisted his way into Bella's second story window, but Weitz says it was all Taylor doing the stunt. We get to see Lautner perform the trick in one fluid, impressive motion. (Another fun fact from New Moon's costume designer: Lautner's t-shirts were all taken in and made smaller to show off his muscles.) Elsewhere there's a great look at the fight choreography and filming of Edward's fight with Felix that shows Pattinson and Daniel Cudmore going at it with wires and break-away props.

5. KStew celebrates her birthday on-set

I'm not so fanatical as to remember Kristen Stewart's birthday (okay, it's April 9) but the cast and crew didn't forget during production on New Moon - and a camera was there to capture the celebration. Watch as Stewart is surprised in the Forks High School parking lot by a birthday cake celebration while filming Bella's birthday morning scene with Pattinson and New Moon's human teens. (Later, Pattinson gets a birthday celebration of his own while filming in the Volturi chamber.)

6. See the "break-up scene" play out in alternate takes

Ah, the break-up scene. It's the source of Bella's heartbreak and one of the most emotional scenes to watch ? and hilariously, the actors had to battle swarms of mosquitoes to deliver just the right dramatic pitch while filming in a thicket of trees. Later, we get to watch the scene through playback monitors as Pattinson tries out different tones and line deliveries, breaking up with Bella over and over again in various ways.

7. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson ad-lib "I love you"

I dare you to hear this story and not squee deep down inside: in the scene before Edward dumps Bella, she tells him she loves him, a line Weitz explains came from the actors themselves. His take is that it gives the scene to come more emotional weight because it's a sad sort of "I love you," which makes their break-up all the more tragic.

8. Vampire sparkling explained!

We can all agree that Edward's sparkling skin in New Moon was a giant leap forward from the effects in Twilight, and here we learn the thinking behind his new look; think sparkling marble instead of diamonds, which is what Weitz and his effects team came up with. To achieve the look, Pattinson's face and body were scanned to create a full-body 3D model (to answer your next question, the feature sadly doesn't show said body scan).

9. Chris Weitz and Peter Lambert's commentary track

Unfortunately, none of the cast are included in the audio commentary; instead, director Weitz is joined remotely by editor Peter Lambert for a lively, if mostly technical, discussion of New Moon's production. Weitz seems aware that viewers may not be familiar with filmmaking terms, and takes time to explain things like framing or camera tricks for the uninitiated. The pair also explains certain elements that eagle-eyed fans may have noticed, such as why Edward's car is black and not silver (it's on purpose!) and how his framing of the early parking lot scenes with Bella, Edward and Jacob foreshadow the character dynamics to come. Basically, the commentary covers all the little details you ever wanted to ask Weitz, including where the idea for Face Punch came from, although many of his comments are repeated in the six-part documentary.

10. Somewhere in the world there's a 3-hour cut of New Moon!

Okay, that somewhere is most likely only on editor Peter Lambert's computer. But fans can dream, can't they? Lambert and Weitz discuss how their first cut ran an uber-long three hours before they whittled it down to cut out the "breathy beats." (Come on, we love the breathy beats!) Weitz and Lambert reveal that there were originally more funny lines from actress Anna Kendrick, a "karate death chop" pose by Michael Sheen's Aro, and a dream sequence with Edward and a live wolf.

'New Moon' Director Chris Weitz Reveals DVD Details

Weitz plans to include at least 20 minutes of deleted material from the blockbuster.

BEVERLY HILLS, California — After this weekend's record-shattering opening, "New Moon" is now officially the biggest film of 2009. In a few months, it will inevitably become one of the biggest DVD releases of 2010.

So what can we expect from the "New Moon" DVD? Recently, we caught up with director Chris Weitz and got the scoop on the disc you'll soon want sitting next to "Twilight" on your shelf.

"There will be a commentary track," Weitz revealed, saying that he'll soon head into the recording booth with his three big stars, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. "It'll just be us riffing off each other in our intimate way," he grinned. "We kind of like each other, so that should be fun."

New Moon DVD Extras Details

In an interview with Collider Chris Weitz revealed what we can expect on the "New Moon" DVD. I'm already excited!!!

Collider: What can we expect on the New Moon DVD?

Chris Weitz: On the DVD there will be some deleted scenes, there will be a commentary with me and I think Kristen, Rob and Taylor at the same time, and some making of and behind the scenes type stuff.

My big question is how many minutes of deleted scenes?

Weitz: I think it’s around twenty. (Kate: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE)

Is there really going to be that many minutes?

Weitz: Yeah, but sometimes it’s just showing a whole scene with bits that have been cut out. There is not like twenty minutes of stuff thrown out. It’s like here is the fully expanded scene.

Here’s my question….the Twilight fans are obsessed with seeing stuff they haven’t seen before. So how many minutes do you think of footage that’s not in the theater would be on the DVD/Blu-ray?

Weitz: I’d say a good ten minutes of groovy stuff they haven’t seen. (Kate: Chris I've said it before and I'll say it again, I LOVE YOU (not as much as Rob but nearly as much)

So why did you cut it?

Weitz: The running time of the film and the cadence of how I wanted the film to play.

Chris Weitz Talks Robert Pattinson and New Moon

With New Moon ready to rise in theaters Nov. 20, director Chris Weitz wants it known: He is going to try to make you cry.

"We've tried our best to deliver on the romantic scenes in the film, and I would like to be able to produce more tears than any movie before, if possible," Weitz told PEOPLE at the Hollywood Film Festival's Hollywood Awards Monday of capturing moments in the Twilight saga's love triangle. "If we could only weigh them with some kind of cubic tear measure!"

Weitz, who took over the directing reigns from Catherine Hardwicke, admits delivering the passion, thrills and heartache in the hotly anticipated sequel wasn't easily done.

"I've handled it very badly, because I'm extremely envious of Rob [Pattinson] and Taylor [Lautner]," he said laughing. "What I've realized is that they have a very tough job – not just playing the characters that they play, but living lives that are now very much under scrutiny all the time."

He adds, the intense level of attention – including speculation about cast members' love lives – was challenging for everyone. "To be honest, even making the movie is under a tremendous amount of scrutiny now, so that when the cast went back to Vancouver there were cameras everywhere," he said. "Everyone knows where every set is going to be. It goes with the Internet and all the information is out there all the time, and whenever one of them is spotted it's immediately Twittered."(Gozde: I might be twitter crazy but I would never tweet or blogpost a set or cast location. Chris Weitz: It's impossible to take a bad picture of Robert Pattinson

Setting the scene:
"I'd like to think the vibe on set was relatively calm. I was very careful to try to show the actors diagrams of the sets, so they didn't turn up without knowing what it was like first. It was fun once we got there, but very, very tiring."

Body Beautiful:
"It's impossible to take a bad picture of Rob, even with these motion picture spots all over him! I think the hysteria over him is greater than for any of the other guys because the character he's playing is unattainable and perfect. Thankfully, Rob has a highly developed sense of the absurd, so he doesn't suffer as much as he otherwise would. However, when we were in Vancouver, there were days when he would just stay indoors and read or watch movies. If he went to his window, people would scream! He was kind of a hermit, really/ It's hard for me to judge how he's changed because I didn't know him in the last movie." Fan Frenzy:
"I tried not to check what fans were saying on the internet until the film finished, as I knew I'd be influenced by them. We had a lot of crazy fans show up during filming, especially in Italy. I mean crazy only in a nice way! More and more fans showed up every day until the entire town was just awash with young people. They didn't even sneak around - they were just there. I'd say 90% were what you'd think of as typical Twilight fans - young girls - and then there were the parents, the Twilight Mums... even the occasional heterosexual male! The only difficulty is when you have a camera, all the lighting gear and you're in a little city with small alleyways and there are thousands of fans there, it's actually hard to move from one place to another. That posed a practical probelem."

Kristen's Character:
"Kristen is one of those actors who inhabits the role she's playing. She was in Joan Jett mode [from filming The Runaways], and then was thrown into promoting New Moon. I think she addresses the questions put to her seriously, and that's not always what the fans are looking for. They want something fun and cute, but she's a serious character. Anyone would be uncomfortable in front of 7,000 screaming fans, it's just a question of how well you hide it."

Robsten's Snog Secrets:
"I was surprised at how clever Rob and Kristen are. That's not to say that I thought they were dummies before, but they had such a strong sense of their own characters and they're very serious about what they might say at any given moment. In a way, you expect people to coast a bit in the sequel or to think, 'This is not a realistic situation because I'm playing a girl who's in love with a vampire, so I have no responsiblilty to convey realistic emotions.' But they both want to put some kind of truth into everything, even when the scenes they're playing are just bizzare."

New Moon will be better than "Twilight"

That's according to Kristen Stewart. Here's what she has to say:

While making the first movie, Summit kept urging Stewart and Pattinson to ease up on the teenage angst. Now Stewart's diving headlong into heartache. She says she reached her breaking point one long, cold night in the forest while filming the pivotal scene where Edward abandons her. ''Before the scene, I was sitting in my car, like f---ing crying — crying so hard you can't breathe,'' she says. ''Because I was really overwhelmed and intimidated by the scene. Everyone says, 'She better be able to pull off the emotion in this movie!' And it's such an important moment in the book, when he leaves.'' The scene exhausted her. ''I'm thinking, 'We have to be done now,''' she remembers. '''Just tell me we're done.'''

Despite the heavy emotional weather in New Moon, director Weitz remained calm and contemplative, as different from the driven, frenetic Hardwicke as Jacob is from Edward. On particularly tough days, Weitz wore a shirt bearing the WWII British propaganda slogan ''Keep Calm and Carry On.'' Sometimes he'd sit in the 
 director's chair and read sci-fi novels while the crew readied the next shot. ''[Making Twilight] was much more of a fight,'' says Stewart. ''Everyone was a little more scared. We needed to make something commercial but stay true to the book. We didn't have as much money. It was all very impulsive, and that's what I love about that f---ing movie.''

She pauses. ''But I think New Moon is gonna be even better.''
