I mean....WOW YOU GUYS. JUST WOW. I am feeling all the emotions and it's so dang amazing!!!! I don't know what to say! My jaw is just permanently dropped! I'm trying to breathe! ARE YOU OK??? WOW.
I love it. This is so wild. Have you been reading up on Batman? I only know the films so I'm reading beginning stuff when Batman was known as The Batman and "world's greatest detective" since that's what Reeves has signaled his focus will be.
Here's something else you might like to read. The Hollywood Reporter has an article talking about how the casting of Rob went down. We don't have any named sources so take this however you want it. I have a theory I developed when the 2nd confirmation happened. When we got the 1st confirmation from Variety weeks ago, it was from a WB source that knew Rob decided to say yes. Then, knowing that was Reeves choice, it was only a matter of time before the ink was dry. I think WB had Hoult as a backup and wanted to do screen tests just to settle themselves but it was really done when Rob said yes. I know that is a favorable take for Rob but come on. All takes here will be favorable to Rob.
Anywho...read this and ponder. What theories do you guys have?
"Quick" Debates and Secret Screen Tests: How Robert Pattinson Became Batman
Two weeks ago, a black jacket-clad Robert Pattinson faced flashbulbs and reporters at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of his period drama, The Lighthouse. When one guest approached him at the reception and said, “I heard you were the new Batman,” he offered only a sly smile and stayed mum.
In reality, Pattinson was not the Caped Crusader…just yet. Hours after his Cannes duties in designer duds, he would be on a plane to Los Angeles to face perhaps the biggest test of his acting career: putting on a Batsuit for director Matt Reeves, who is casting The Batman.
That test was officially passed Friday, when Warner Bros. announced that Pattinson had won the role. The decision was the culmination of an intense process that insiders describe as surprisingly quick. As opposed to most superhero casting efforts, which often include far-and-wide searches and dozens of screen tests for the likes of Superman or more recently, Spider-Man, the Batman process was notably smooth.
“It was quick,” says one Warners insider. “Quicker than normal.”
Reeves, who was hired to write and direct a new Batman movie in February 2017, was envisioning actors while penning the script, according to sources familiar with the filmmaker’s thinking. It helped that this new Batman needed to conform to a defined age bracket. He is written as around 30 years old, and the story is neither another rehashing of his origin nor the tale of a seasoned crimefighter ruling Gotham City. He is Bruce Wayne still trying to find his footing on his way to becoming the genius detective.
This, of course, eliminated Ben Affleck, as THR first reported back in July 2017. (Affleck and Warner Bros. denied the recasting at the time because the actor, who had played the role in Batman v Superman and Justice League, was to have headlined his own stand-alone movie that was sidelined when the studio began rethinking its superhero strategy.)
Reeves is said to have considered Pattinson, 33, early on in the process, says one source, even though no outreach was made. Reeves didn’t even know if the actor wanted the part. Since Pattinson shot to fame as a heartthrob vampire in the Twilight films, he has built a solid résumé in smaller, well-reviewed independent films like Good Time and Maps to the Stars. He has assiduously avoided big studio franchise films.
But that fact actually made him more attractive to Reeves and the executive team at Warner Bros. Specifically, Pattinson has not yet appeared in a Marvel Studios movie, and name-brand actors not working for the DC Comics rival are becoming few and far between. While there are no contract provisions prohibiting Marvel actors from appearing in DC/Warner Bros. movies and vice versa, execs believe that cross-pollination dilutes both brands and can cause confusion for audiences, especially from a marketing point of view.
FANART: Robert Pattinson has inspired some amazing fanart and fanvids as Batman!
We've been living with Battinson for over 2 weeks now and the film is more than 2 years away but that just means more time for awesome, inspiring fanart! We're going to be seeing some incredible work while we wait for The Batman.
I hope you don't mind, but I wanted to play around with one of your images as a sudo mockup w Pattinson. I'd love to see something along those lines costume wise... pic.twitter.com/zbMfa7JbEr
VIDEO: Robert Pattinson as Batman has expressed itself and this comic vlogger is ready to go!
This has been like a dream. I believe it's happening but I can't believe it's happening. How is this happening?? *prays Cannes press is wondering the same thing*
As if my mind couldn't be more blown, I saw my worlds collide today. I'm a huge fan of Marvel Cinematic Universe and Game of Thrones. Not really admitting something unique here but I'm not a casual watcher of either. I'm a first-showing, multiple-viewing, blog-reading, vlog-watching, constant-analyzing, deep-researching, from the beginning kind of fan. ROBsessed....but GoTsessed and MCUsessed.
However, they've never had that singular THING that Rob has for us so the obsessions have been...quieter. 10 years ago this month, I became ROBsessed. It was April '09 I read the Twilight series but it was May '09 I saw GQRob (you know the one) for the first time, CannesRob hit the scene for the first time, and I discovered this blog. It's a special month for me personally. I didn't know the fandom yet. It was just me, the books, and this guy that I couldn't stop watching and listening to in interviews. What a world I was about to enter.
Which all leads to me being thrilled today to have my regular MCU and GoT informant report on Rob. A vlogger I love and follow because he's a comic reader and book reader, has posted about Batman. He was supportive of Rob like anyone who realizes Rob did not hibernate since Breaking Dawn Part 2 seven years ago. No, Rob put in the WORK. The man is respected by his peers. The industry values his talent and taste. He's being defended by fanboys in the know. And Rob will be AMAZING as Bruce Wayne/Batman. We know this. We've seen it. It's going to be fun to watch everyone else come to know it too.
So I want to share this video with you all still out there, still addicted and devoted. We're entering a new era. Again. Time to understand another fandom, another world (unless you've been Batsessed). Check out this video from Emergency Awesome breaking down what's known about Matt Reeves' The Batman and the concept behind the plot details. I'm not a comic reader so I don't know Batman's history beyond the films. This video already gave me more info than any article I've read since the announcement. I hope it gets you more pumped up...as if we aren't all floating in the atmosphere already. Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!!
It looks like we're one step closer to this being a real thing... the bat signal is close to lighting up the night sky with Battinson!
He’s going from sex symbol to bat symbol. Sources tell Variety that Robert Pattinson is in negotiations to play “The Batman” in Matt Reeves’ forthcoming superhero film, which hits theaters June 25, 2021.
While sources say it’s not yet a done deal, Pattinson is the top
choice and it’s expected to close shortly. Warner Bros. had no comment.
Pre-production on the Warner Bros.-DC Comics pic is expected to start this summer.
Reeves, the filmmaker behind the last two “Planet of the Apes” sequels, assumed “Batman”
directing duties from Ben Affleck in January 2017 and has been
developing the elusive project ever since. Affleck and Warner Bros.
began discussing the actor-director leaving the Caped Crusader behind
following “Justice League,” allowing Reeves to pick his own Bruce Wayne.
Reeves will produce “The Batman” with his “Planet of the Apes” collaborator Dylan Clark.
