I wanted to work with him for a while, but he ignored me (laughs). Until I told him I wanted him to film an ad for Dior. They say his films boast pointless or endless violence, but isn’t that the world right now? I think his vision is very current and that’s why I wanted to work with him. Romain is a genuine subversive and he can get anything to be relevant. He loves throwing a bomb and watching the reaction. Do you have memories related to fragrances? My father always wore Brut by Fabergé. In fact, he still keeps a bottle somewhere which reminds me of my first years of school. At 12, when I started dating, I thought wearing perfume was the best. I remember being on vacation in Portugal and thinking that if I wore cologne, I’d get into bars. And it worked! What do London (where you were born), New York (where the ad was filmed) & Paris (Dior’s headquarters) smell like? What I miss the most about London, aside from my family and friends, it’s the smell of rain. Both Heathrow and Gatwick are surrounded by fields and when you land you can smell wet grass. New York is completely different. To me, its smells like food, there’s lots of it everywhere. And Paris is a different world. More than a scent, I associate it with something more visual. It’s pure energy. I love getting lost in its streets.
Grazia Daily spoke to Denise Cronenberg the costume designer on "Cosmopolis" and she mentions how Robert Pattinson was head to toe in Gucci. And doesn't he look GREAT?
Grazia Daily: You’re working on Cosmopolis with Robert Pattinson now, what’s that been like? Denise Cronenberg: Oh, he’s lovely! He’s such a nice, sweet kid. He’s intelligent and smart; he was very brave to take on something like this because I think he was quite hesitant at first. But David is wonderful with actors and he’s a father of three, so he uses that. He and Robert had a wonderful relationship. It was an unusual film to do, very unusual. We had to do a rave, street fires and have cars exploding for this film! David and I decided what we thought we’d put Robert in. I then talked to Gucci who were incredible and gave us all his clothes. He’s dressed from head to toe in Gucci from the tie to his socks! And we had no money, like really, no money so we could never have done it without them.

About Eclipse: I don’t think these movies are just for girls. There are many stunts and fights in Eclipse. Guys like them, don’t they? People think that romantic movies are just for girls but I have another opinion. Everyone who has ever fallen in love can find something for themselves. Our movie seems very realistic to me…I think Eclipse will be very interesting to everyone.
About Kristen: What I especially like about her is that she’s like me, not dizzy from fans and press attention. She stays true to herself and very smart for her age. With each movie she matured. During filming ‘Eclipse’ I realized that she matured a lot and become a real woman. And, of course, it’s a lot easier to work with person I've worked with before. We understand each other without the words. I can tell Kristen about all my problems. But honestly I don’t have to… because she’s in same position as I am. Kristen really cares about me and I’m very grateful for this. She’s the most honest and genuine person I’ve I ever met. Unfortunately in Hollywood these qualities are not very popular..Everyone thinks about their own benefits so it’s very cool that you can meet people like Kristen here. She always listens, gives good advice regardless with her own interests.
About everlasting love: This idea seems strange at least to me. It’s so boring to spend your whole life with the same person…(Laughs)
About parties: I’m not anything like my brooding character. In London I have no problem going to pub with my friends. It’s a bit different in LA. It’s hard to convince someone to go to the bar on weekdays there. (Kate: Aaaaah Rob I've said it before and I'll say it again. COME TO IRELAND. People will go to the pub anytime you want here!)

A tad overdone, this security setup? Not really. Since he stepped in to play the hero of Twilight, Robert Pattinson has become one of the most hounded men on the planet. Wherever he goes, a throng of paparazzi and fans camp out in front of his hotel trying to get a glimpse of him. They hope to catch a smile or the tiniest ambivalent gesture towards his partner Kristen Stewart (a few days later, photos of the couple brushing hands in Paris will set the Web afire). Since the 2008 release of the first of four movies inspired by Stephenie Meyer’s best sellers, the Robert Pattinson craze has rivaled the sensations sparked by the Beatles and Leonardo DiCaprio in his Titanic days. Q: You’ve said there are a lot of similarities between New Moon and your own life? Can you give us some examples?
RP: In the beginning, Edward, my character, leaves Bella without any explanation, because he thinks it’s best for her. We’ve all made that kind of mistake. I’ve broken up with a girl before because I was convinced it wouldn’t work out, and I’ve been dumped without any explanation. In short, just like what happens in New Moon.
Q: Which vampire power would you like to have?
RP: Being able to disappear... for obvious reasons!
Q: You’re considered one of the world’s sexiest men, adored by thousands of fans. Leonardo DiCaprio has even said: “finally there’s someone to take the burden off me.” Is all this fame a burden for you?
RP: Nobody’s given me an instruction manual for dealing with it. I kind of stumbled into it by chance. When Twilight first became a hit, people on the street would call me Edward. I think they’re fascinated with the character, not me. It’s true that I can’t move around as freely these days. I can’t go out alone anywhere I might be recognized. A lot of the time I feel like a nocturnal animal, blinded by the headlights of a car about to run over me. But I refuse to complain about what’s happening to me. I just have to hunker down and let a few years go by. I know this craze will eventually die down. Then I’ll be able to look back and say I lived through some extraordinary things.
Q: What’s the craziest thing a fan ever asked you to do?
RP: The first time a girl asked me to bite her neck, I thought it was funny. She was completely serious; she wanted me to sink my teeth into her....
Q: Has all the hysteria ever gotten to be too much?
RP: I was leaving a beach, at the Cannes Festival, and found myself facing a big swarm of people. The bodyguards had to lift me up over the crowd, to get me to my car. It was surreal... but I’d rather just laugh it off.
Q: So what does draw you out of your lair, despite it all, make you willing to brave the hordes of fans?
RP: Discovering a foreign country. I’d like to take a trip to Vietnam. Maybe I could explore the beauties of Asia on a motorbike, with a rucksack. But I haven’t mentioned that to anybody but you, so keep it hush, so I can travel in peace. (laughs)
Q: What do you do when you’re not filming, or doing an interview, or trying to escape your groupies?
RP: I sleep! I work nonstop, and I’m a pretty shy guy, so I prefer the peace and quiet of my hotel room to a night out in a club.
Q: Are you working on other projects?
RP: I make myself do different movies between every Twilight shoot, because it’s a relief to go back to being a normal guy. That’s why I wanted to do Remember Me (editor’s note: set for release in February 2010) (Gozde's note: It's been pushed to March 2009)in the beginning of the summer. It’s the story of two lovers who try and save their relationship while grappling with family tragedies. I insisted they let me shoot it without make-up. I could finally touch my face and express my feelings without a mask covering my skin. Just be myself.
Q: Apparently you’re not allowed to cut your hair until all the Twilight shoots are over. A bit frustrating?
RP: Hair gel is the greatest modern-day invention! (laughs) It lets me keep Edward’s hairdo, or flatten down my hair if I want. Do I ever dream of just shaving my head? Of course!
Q: You and Kristen Stewart call yourselves “good friends.” What kind of bond do you share?
RP: We’ve both been living through this great Twilight adventure from day one, that alone makes us close. No one can really understand what we’ve been going through over this past year. When we’re together, we’re on the same wavelength, without having to say a word.
Q: To wrap up, the question everybody is wondering about... Are you in love?
RP: No. I don’t have time to have a girl in my life, anyway. I hop from one plane to the next. Nobody could stand sharing the life of a guy who’s always gone. For right now, I’m focused on my career. RP: No. And the first thing I dream of doing is burning these damned tinted contacts. Every day on the set, they’re absolute torture!
