3. Her new gig as a choreographer

King recently organized The Final Chapter, an evening of dance and interactive poetry that took place in LA. “I was talking to Rob Pattinson right when he first started dating [FKA] Twigs, and he wanted to take her to anything that had to do with dance,” she recalls. “I was trying to find something for him and I realized we in Los Angeles have very little live performance art. So I said, if other people aren’t making it happen, I want to make it happen.”

King chose the music and co-choreographed the performances with 18-year-old dancer Haley Messick; the evening was, naturally, a hit. “I intend to continue to move into this dance space and bring more of it into Los Angeles,” she says eagerly.

Q: How aware of Robert Pattinson were you before the film and how was it working with him?

PEARCE: I was very aware of his fame, and I had only seen him for Water for Elephants, which I really enjoyed, and I really enjoyed him in it. That head is just incredible really isn’t it? That face really. And the sensitivity, it’s a beautiful sensitivity. And when David mentioned that he was interested in him for the role, and I went, ‘Oh wow, okay,’ because I think the vulnerability was something that was really crucial for me as far as I was concerned. And I didn’t want it to be, not that I am a big brute of a guy, but I didn’t want it to be too equal; I wanted it to be obviously top heavy, so that people would feel sorry for him if I really took it out on him. And I wasn’t aware of how good he was going to be, to be honest. Not that I didn’t think he would be, but certainly, on that second day, when I was watching some stuff on the monitor, and he did that scene where he crawled out of the truck and he was sitting against the tree at the beginning and he had just been shot and watching the way he was sort of trying to work out how he was going to deal with this situation, I just found it heart-breaking. So it was a great moment for me, to be honest and it just got better and better as far as I was concerned. So, it was exciting because one, you forget about all the fame business and you concentrate on the work that you are doing, but just to kind of work with somebody who is really delivering is fabulous, it’s always been inspiring.

Q: Are you glad you never quite experienced that level of fame? There were years where you were
pretty well known... But it wasn’t that sort of thing. Are you glad you didn’t have to deal with that in your career?

PEARCE: Yeah, I haven’t had to deal with it. I would certainly enjoy the benefits that come with it, as far as being offered great roles all the time, and all that sort of stuff and I am sure that’s fabulous. But the sh*t you have got to deal with at the same time I reckon is pretty full on. It’s amazing how he deals with it.

Q: He seems very natural and easy-going.

PEARCE: Yeah, he’s funny and he has a good sense of humour, but I think it gets to him totally. But interestingly, and not that he actually says this, but he wants to prove himself as a good actor. All of us do, all of us want to be able to do good work and I think he sees that stuff, all that Twilight stuff, and goes blech, whatever.

Kellan Lutz was at Cannes and spoke to the Associated Press about catching up with Rob while there, how he was proud of what Rob was doing and how he believes an Academy Award in Rob's future.

Get in line Kellan, we've believed that for a VERY long time now.

"It's great chatting with Rob and seeing his success," Lutz said at a resort outside of Cannes this week. "I think one of the great things talking with Rob after we did 'Twilight' stuff is he just doesn't care about the money. He's doing good work and he wants to work with great directors and great actresses and actors and working with great material, as we all should."

"I think that the blessing of being part of the 'Twilight' franchise is it's given us this safety net," he added.

Lutz has taken more action roles, which he calls his passion, since the "Twilight" films wrapped, while Pattinson has gravitated to edgier projects. Lutz said he believes an Academy Award is in Pattinson's future.

"He has the chops and he's doing what he loves to do and I'm so proud of him for everything that he's doing," he said.

Guy sat down with The Daily Beast in Cannes and spoke about The Rover, Robert Pattinson& more.
Here's the snippet where he talks about Rob and the relationship between Eric and Rey.

Your uneasy relationship with Robert Pattinson jump-starts the narrative.

Yeah, he was lovely and I was so impressed with what he did in the film. I was touched by the vulnerability of his character. He’s almost like a little kid or a vulnerable animal that needs to be looked after. You can’t help but empathize with him. And then it meant that I knew the power that I, as Eric, could exert over him—even in the few first moments when I speak to him. I just let him know that he means nothing to me. I guess I’m trying to deny what he does mean to me and I end up having to take him with me to find his brother. I just have to let him know that he means nothing to me, personally. It’s a way of him asking if we can connect and me more or less responding “absolutely no way.”

There’s almost a sort of Of Mice and Men dynamic between the two of you.

That’s right, particularly because of his Southern accent.

Holly Grainger (who as you know was lucky enough to work with Rob not only on Bel Ami but also  on The Bad Mothers Handbook a few years earlier) was being interview by GraziaDaily when she spoke about Rob. Naturally enough she had good things to say about him.

Holliday also told us about her friend Robert Pattinson. The pair have worked together on a number of projects over the years including The Bad Mother’s Handbook in 2007 and Bel Ami in 2012 in which they played lovers. ‘He’s lovely,’ she says. ‘I’ve known him since his pre-Twilight days when he was a normal person and it was still like, “ooh you’re playing Cederic Diggory (in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire)”.

He’s managed to keep very level headed and normal. I don’t understand how. I can’t fathom the idea of living a life like he lives. On the set of Bel Ami in Budapest there would be hundreds of screaming girls there at 5am and they would still be cordoned off when we finished.

He had to move hotels because there were so many people outside his. One day he was signing autographs on the way home from work at 6am after a night shoot. Bless him, that’s an extra level of hard.’

Our Affiliates RobertPattinsonAustralia were lucky enough to be able to attend Flickerfest in Sydney where they saw none other than David Michod!
You KNOW there was talk about Robert Pattinson and The Rover so here are some excerpts from their report.......

David noticed that his films seemed to be from the perspective of a child.  He thought that The Rover was the first time this wasn’t so, but then realised that Rob’s character Rey can be considered childlike in The Rover so maybe he hasn’t really distanced himself from that. (Kate: Childlike ReyRob, God help us all)

After the success of Animal Kingdom he was given the opportunity to direct other people’s scripts, but he realised what he loved the most was that he liked to build films himself from the ground up.  He worked on the script of Animal Kingdom for about 10 years (whilst he did other jobs of course) and he wrote the first draft of The Rover with Joel Edgerton in about 10 days before he even filmed Animal Kingdom.

I can’t tell you enough how much praise David heaps on Rob.  David said he “loves talented people”.  He also said numerous times how smart Rob is.  Really smart. (Kate: God I love this guy. David Cronenberg watch out, you have competition here! :))

David said he he finished The Rover about one to one and a half months ago and that noone has seen it yet.  He wanted to bring a teaser for us today, but he just wasn’t ready to reveal it yet. (Kate: *cries* I can be patient, yeap I can, I really can. Uh-huh patience is my middle name ;})

He said they are rolling it out and showing it to people over the next few months.  He said he felt the same at the end of The Rover as he did with Animal Kingdom.

David “absolutely loved the work done by Guy and Rob.  They created great characters and loved their performances”. (Kate: Can't wait to see Rob and Guy act together in this and this is making me even more excited)

Then I read the London Evening Standard who sat down with Tom Sturridge's sister, Matilda, and Rob was briefly mentioned...and I see that gif running through my mind...minus the strawberry-cream cheese blood:

...She is currently living with her parents in Holland Park, who are helping her with childcare and do not want her to leave. “He has what I had and more. We’ve done that kind of Italian thing, where he’s grown up with all our families. I can go to work and there’s no sense of abandonment,” she says. “He’s so easy, so calm, I’ve never seen anyone so happy. I don’t know how he’s so calm with me and Charlie as parents!” Not only that: he has R-Patz as a godfather, by the way. “Yeah, Rudy’s very lucky. He’s got some cool godparents!”

The nice thing about interviewing celebrities at movie premieres is that you learn something new every time. Take our chat with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter star Anthony Mackie (aka hot dude from The Hurt Locker soon to be seen in a billion A-Lister packed films) at the film’s premiere last night. The actor told our correspondent Janell Snowden that his #1 golfing buddy is none other than Robert Pattinson. Seriously!
Mackie tell VH1, “Rob Pattinson, he’s a good friend of mine. We hang out together and play golf together and drink in the pubs. That’s my homeboy.” As for their golfing threads? Anthony just scored a new Puma outfit and says Rob wears “slacks with a nice polo.” What we wouldn’t give to see these two palling around on the green!

Update: We love the reaction our interview is getting on Twitter, which is basically “Really?! Is Anthony for real? Robert Pattinson…golfs?!” That pretty much sums up our response, too. We asked Janell, our correspondent who spoke with Anthony, if she thinks he’s telling the truth or messing around and here’s her expert analysis: I TOTALLY believe Anthony! Having hung out with him once and interviewed him many times over the years, he’s definitely a jokester, but after I told him about VH1.com’s obsession with all things Twilight, it would’ve been cruel of him to be such a tease. Besides, Anthony’s a very well connected guy. At the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, he told me that Robert Redford invited him to his ranch where they sipped Pinot Noir. So if he can wine and dine with Redford, he can definitely suit up and tee off with Pattinson!
