Variety sources suggest big studio films, including Robert Pattinson's The Batman, could be pushed back

Variety sources suggest big studio films, including Robert Pattinson's The Batman, could be pushed back

A pause on our DoR today while we discuss the potential for The Batman to be pushed back.

Excerpt from Variety:
Sources tell Variety that most studios are letting talent and their reps know that at this point they do not expect these stalled productions to get back underway until mid-May at the earliest. When most of these shutdowns were first announced, studios hinted that it was possible that people could go back to work in April. But even May could be overly optimistic — the pandemic is not expected to reach its apex in major production hubs like New York City until the end of April.

Studios won’t be able to go back to work until local governments lift the bans on gatherings of more than 10 people, a number that most sets routinely eclipse. One source believes that the first films to resume production will likely be ones that are shooting in the U.S., as the prospect of filming overseas presents too many logistical challenges given the global nature of COVID-19.

Not only are studios focused on ensuring the safety of their casts and crews, they are also trying to figure out how to accommodate talent that had lined up other productions in the coming months. Right now the expectation is that in-demand stars such as Chris Pratt in “Jurassic World: Dominion” or Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in “Red Notice” will be able to convince forthcoming productions to move their start dates further into the future so they can finish shooting. Individuals in supporting roles who have larger parts in upcoming productions will likely have to drop out, and insiders say studio executives are already checking in on the availability of other actors who can serve as possible replacements.

...
Other major movies were fairly far along when the virus began to intensify. “The Matrix 4” had finished shooting in San Francisco and was about to begin production in Berlin, “The Batman” had completed nearly seven weeks of filming in London, and “Red Notice” had been in the works for two months in Atlanta. There’s an outside chance these films might even make their original release dates, although it is more likely they will be moved back.

I don't think this puts Rob at a disadvantage. Batman as a superhero will always draw attention no matter when you release a Batman film. This being a relaunch of a massive superhero benefits from more distance from the Affleck version and the Snyder universe. I know superhero films are the big moneymakers for studios but I also feel many are rushed and I definitely feel the way WB/DC have been running things post-Marvel dominance has been rushed and sloppy. I want Rob as The Batman yesterday but I'm trying to see the silver lining. That's my 2 cents. What do you all think?

NEW PROJECT: Robert Pattinson Joins Robert Eggers’ Fantasy Horror Film ‘The Lighthouse’

Deadline have confirmed the rumours that were going around last week about Rob joining the cast of The Lighthouse. It sounds like a very exciting project indeed!

 photo SoBusy.gif

From Deadline
EXCLUSIVE: RT Features and A24 have firmed their re-team with director Robert Eggers on The Lighthouse, the filmmaker’s followup to his sleeper hit The Witch. The new project, a fantasy horror story set in the world of old sea-faring myths, will go into production this spring. Robert Pattinson, coming off Good Time, joins the project in a lead role alongside Willem Dafoe.

The script was written by Robert Eggers and Max Eggers. RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira and Lourenço Sant’ Anna developed the project with Eggers and are producing alongside Parts & Labor’s Jay Van Hoy, and Youree Henley. A24 acquired worldwide rights and will distribute the film in the U.S. New Regency (The Revenant) has joined the project as a co-financier.

Said Eggers: “I am extremely happy to be working with RT, A24, and Parts & Labor again. Along with New Regency, they are providing me and my collaborators with the support and freedom to make this film the way it needs to be made. It’s a privilege.”

RT Features’ Teixeira called Pattinson “one of the most talented actors working today. We are excited to work with him and Eggers, a singular filmmaker whose unique vision we support. Our collaboration on The Witch was flawless and we look forward to re-uniting along with our partners at A24, Parts & Labor and New Regency.”

In addition to his critically acclaimed turn in Good Time, Pattinson starred in David & Nathan Zellner-directed Damsel which debuted at Sundance last month. He recently wrapped the Claire Denis-directed sci-fi thriller High Life. Pattinson is repped by WME, Curtis Brown Group and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Robert Pattinson will film Idol's Eye October 22 to mid-December in Toronto and Chicago!

Rob mentioned it a few times at TIFF and we already had an idea but Idol's Eye is firming up! Not to mention the sexhair freedom is likely due to IE's 70s production.

Global News reports about Rob's return to Toronto to film the Olivier Assayas' film:
TORONTO — Two of the world’s most famous Roberts — Pattinson and DeNiro — will be in Toronto next month. The actors are scheduled to co-star in Idol’s Eye, which is shooting in the city from Oct. 22 to mid-December. Additional scenes will be filmed in Chicago.
The action-thriller, directed by French filmmaker Olivier Assayas, is about thieves who encounter problems when they try to rob a pawn shop. DeNiro, 71, and Pattinson, 28, are joined in the cast by Rachel Weisz.
Idol’s Eye will be the fourth film Pattinson has made in Toronto. The Twilight star wrapped the biopic Life earlier this year and also made 2014’s Maps to the Stars and 2012’s Cosmopolis in the city.

Robert Pattinson: "It is nice to look at my resume now. I’d be jealous of me if I wasn’t me."

Robert Pattinson: "It is nice to look at my resume now. I’d be jealous of me if I wasn’t me."

image hostRob talked to the Chicago Sun Times about The Rover and had a fun Q&A interview:

A steak in his heart: Robert Pattinson yearns for Chicago beef

Maybe it’s a nod to his former vampire alter ego, but Robert Pattinson wants blood.

“I was having a dream the other night about a Chicago steak,” the actor said Tuesday. “I had one on the first ‘Twilight’ tour, and certain things just stick in your mind. Maybe it’s my inner vampire coming out again.”

With a trademark laugh, Pattinson knows he will get his wish. He will film the gangster movie “Idol’s Eye” with Robert De Niro in Chicago in October. “I love Chicago,” he says. “It’s one of those cities where I can walk around and people are really kind. They respect that there are times I need a little silence.”

He also found that silence working in the Australian Outback for his new movie “The Rover” (opening Friday), where Pattinson plays Ray, a young man on a mission to survive a wild desert trip and killing spree with another drifter played by Guy Pierce.

Q. What was it like filming in the Outback?

A: I really love the desert because you can be alone, which is very nice. I could just wander off a bit and no one cared because there wasn’t a single soul for thousands of miles. Most of the towns where we filmed had one street. The other cool thing is that when I was mobbed, it was by a bunch of kangaroos who lived there or the wild camels. I respect these people who are out there, too, living off the grid. It was perfect for me to be a bit off the grid where I didn’t have to look over my shoulder. No one was taking a picture of me doing something stupid.

Q. You’ve said that you had to audition for Rey in “The Rover.” Really? After starring in that big franchise?

A: One hundred percent I have to audition unless I’m playing something in my wheelhouse. If I’m doing a vampire thing, they better hire me. You’ve seen my vampire act.

Q. You’ve had quite a few years with your life splashed out in the tabloids. How do you keep it together and not develop an attitude?

A: I really don’t know how I do it. It’s weird. I went through a period where I was a bit more stressed. Once I got through that period of time, I just figured that your life contracts a little bit when you get famous. Yes, I was frustrated about not doing the things I used to do, like walking around anonymously. But you get used to it. In the end, I just let it all go and have accepted that it’s a different kind of life.

Q. You have films coming up from David Cronenberg [“Maps to the Stars” this fall] and Werner Herzog, plus the De Niro movie. Have you shaken Edward Cullen from “Twilight” off for good?

A: I’m constantly surprised that I’ve been able to have a career post-”Twilight.” I still think it’s going to end at any second. I always figured anything else after “Twilight” was just a bonus. ... It is nice to look at my resume now. I’d be jealous of me if I wasn’t me.

Q. Finally ... you’re a steak guy and not a Chicago pizza type?

A. Let’s clear this up. I’m 100 percent a Chicago pizza guy, but when you’ve been dreaming of a good steak, you need to start with a knife and a fork in your hands — and some good steak sauce.
