NEW: Brady Corbet and Robert Pattinson will work together again and more great remarks!

This is a great interview with Brady Corbet for The Childhood of a Leader and the excerpts regarding Rob are even better!

Not only does he praise Rob's work ethic (which we know is top notch), he also fills us in on their upcoming collaborations and more!

Excerpt from Eye For Film:

Given that he feels so strongly about the mythology of fan culture, it's ironic that he has cast Pattinson in the film, as the actor has built up an ardent following in the years since the Twilight films, with a large number of fan sites dedicated to his work and even the internet-friendly abbreviation RPatz. Corbet says he was interesting in using certain expectations to his advantage.

"It’s really bizarre," says Corbet "There’s a couple of things. First of all, I’m not that connected to the notion of Rob as a celebrity, because I’ve known him for a long time and I didn’t discover him that way. The other thing is that I thought it would be really, really interesting to have this sort of Janet Leigh in Psycho effect, where you have someone who is a public figure and people have their eye on him, he’s interesting, he’s charismatic, he’s compelling, he’s handsome. And I thought, that it would really give weight to the first 20 minutes of the film. So I hired him for all of those reasons. I hired him because the role was written for a young man that was a bit younger than the female character, handsome and English, so I thought of him.

"Anyone who has spent any time with the guy will know that he’s super hard-working and he never complains. I was just talking to the Safdie brothers, who are directing a new film with him [Good Time], and Josh was like, ‘Dude, we were shooting 19 hour days and he didn’t fucking complain once.’ They were just amazed by his work ethic and so am I. I think he and I will work together for a long time."

Corbet isn't sure yet whether Pattinson will feature in his next film Vox Lux yet. "It's a big cast and it’s an ensemble piece and I have to work out what age everyone is in relationship to each other," he says, but the British star is working with Corbet's wife and collaborator Mona Fastvold on her upcoming film The Bleaching Yard.

"He’s Really Charismatic" ~ Brady Corbet Talks Robert Pattinson To Variety

"He’s Really Charismatic" ~ Brady Corbet Talks Robert Pattinson To Variety

Brady Corbet, Director of The Childhood of A Leader, did a Q&A with Variety where he spoke about the movie and how Robert Pattinson got involved.
Check out the excerpt where he mentions Rob below.

 photo photo.jpg
Loosely inspired by the early childhood experiences of many of the most infamous dictators of the 20th century, “The Childhood of a Leader” stars Berenice Bejo and Liam Cunningham as an American couple settling into the French countryside at the end of the World War I, at which time the father is involved in the delicate peace negotiations surrounding the Treaty of Versailles. His wife is a devout Christian who struggles with the tantrums of their son (Tom Sweet), an angelic-looking boy whose behaviour becomes increasingly disturbing. Robert Pattinson and Stacy Martin also appear in the film, which also brought Corbet a cash prize in the form of Luigi De Laurentiis award for best debut.

Variety: How did Robert Pattinson get involved?

Corbet: Robert Pattinson is a friend of ours, and we really have a lot of common interests and tastes. He’s really charismatic, and we thought it would be wonderful to apply that charisma to these very early, seemingly unimportant sequences, and only really by the end of the film do you realise how significant they are.

Read the Full Q&A over at Variety

Also if you happen to live in or near Pleasantville, New York there will be a screening of The Childhood of a Leader followed by a Q&A with Brady Corbet this Sunday (25th Oct) at the Jacob Burns Film Center. More details and links to purchase tickets can be found HERE

Brady Corbet & Mona Fastvold On Robert Pattinson: " He Draws You In, In A Classic Cold Way. He Is Compelling."

This Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold interview with Writers Guild Italia  where they say great things about Robert Pattinson contains a slight THE Childhood of A Leader Spoiler so I've placed the spoiler after the cut.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

 photo IMG_1015.jpg

And with an actor as Robert Pattinson? I know he really looks forward films that are auteur films, that offer something else out of the mainstream.

Brady: Yes for sure, he is a real cinephile. There is so many actors that could use their celebrity in a really amazing way, like Will Smith or Tom Cruise… Well Tom Cruise does that sometimes. There’s a lot of people who really don’t take advantages… Like I can get somebody’s film made and they are gonna challenge me and we are gonna grow together.

Did he help in financing?
Brady: Of course. The thing is funny because at the time… he was cast several years ago, we had no idea how significant it would end up being. We had a lot of others fancy cast members at one point, but at a certain point he was the only way to get the film made, after many years was to have Rob involved. And we originally hired Rob because of the fact we wanted somebody really charismatic and really recognisable.
Mona: We wanted to feel right the way that this character is very important.

Brady: The thing great about Robert is that the less he does. You can't take your eyes off the guy! Because he is beautiful to look at, It's really like he draws you in, in a classic cold way. He is compelling.

'The Childhood Of A Leader' With Robert Pattinson Wins Best Debut Film At The Venice Film Festival

Fantastic news from Venice, The Childhood of A Leader won the "Luigi de Laurentiis" Venice Award for Best Debut Film. Not only that but Brady Corbet also took home the Best Director Horizons award!

 photo tcoalstill.jpg
From The Hollywood Reporter:
Childhood of a Leader won the "Luigi de Laurentiis" Venice Award for a Debut Film on Saturday. Director Brady Corbet also won the Best Director Horizons award, presented by Jonathan Demme.

"I really love you Jonathan Demme. I always have," he told the Horizons jury president.

Robert Pattinson and Stacy Martin star in the historical drama, which details the childhood of a fascist leader during World War I.

Director-writer Brady Corbet flew in from upstate New York the day before to receive his prize. He was shocked to receive the prize, saying that he remembered questioning his family's future when they were trying to put the film together, wary of whether or not it would turn out.

"My daughter might look at this in 25 years. I just want to say be patient, be radical, be free," said Corbet on accepting the prize.

The film was the only film In Venice shown on 35mm. "Celluloid should be a filmmaker's right, not a privilege," said Corbet upon receiving his second prize of the night.

Robsessed Awards: Robert Pattinson's Best Non-Fandom Supporter Of 2014

Robsessed Awards: Robert Pattinson's Best Non-Fandom Supporter Of 2014

We know you love Rob, we know we love Rob.... but throughout the year we've also found out who else loves Rob and he's very loveable it seems. Just love that directors and fellow actors always have such nice things to say.

David Cronenberg ~ Speaking to THR ahead of Saturday night's New York Film Festival screening of Maps, Cronenberg explained that he wanted to work with Pattinson on this movie not only because the director thinks of him as "a wonderful actor" and they "had a good time on Cosmopolis," but also because it provided the opportunity for Pattinson to participate in the sort of ensemble film he'd told Cronenberg he wanted to do.

 photo Cronenberg.gif

David Michod ~ "I had always thought he was some angular, super good-looking brooding guy, then I met him and he was way more interesting than that. He wasn’t just a pretty boy. He had a really interesting face. He was interestingly awkward. And clearly very bright."

Click on the pic below to read more
 photo Michod.jpg

Guy Pearce ~ "On the second day he was doing the scene where he falls out of the truck and he's sitting there bleeding and I was watching it on the monitor. I looked at David and said, 'Wow, he's really good, isn't he?' What he was offering up with regard to the power shifts between us meant I had such great stuff to work with."

Julianne Moore ~ "Robert Pattinson is one of those people whose affect is so dissimilar to who he is. He has this gorgeous face and he seems like he’s going to be very remote and very serious. But he’s not. He’s incredibly chatty, fun, and smart."

Click on the pic below to read more
 photo Julianne.jpg

Anton Corbijn ~ "Rob is of course a film star, but he likes to be seen as an actor, so he works very hard to be an actor and be valued as an actor."

Josh Horowitz ~ If we're honest, I'd say Josh is a little Robsessed and we love him for it. He's always on top of what Rob's up to and who can forget the 30 minute interview from earlier this year?

Click on the pic below to read more
 photo Josh.jpg

Werner Herzog ~ "He is a smart man and the choice was quite natural."

Brady Corbet ~ "I've known Rob for years, and I've been a big fan of Rob's and I've really liked the decisions he's made. He's used his celebrity in a very, very intelligent way."

Brady Corbet & Mona Fastvold Talk 'The Childhood Of A Leader' & Robert Pattinson's Character With IndieWire

Brady Corbet & Mona Fastvold Talk 'The Childhood Of A Leader' & Robert Pattinson's Character With IndieWire

Indiewire spoke to Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold about their upcoming project The Childhood Of A Leader starring (of course) Rob.
Now Brady didn't exactly reveal a whole lot about Rob's character in the movie so I guess we'll have to do the usual and wait and see!

 photo IMG_1015.jpg

The duo is officially heading into pre-production for "The Childhood of the Leader," a period piece that will mark Corbet's directorial debut and stars...oh just a little-known actor named Robert Pattinson. Though Corbet is holding onto a few secrets about the project

Brady, you're making your directorial debut with your next project, "The Childhood of a Leader" starring Robert Pattinson. What inspired you to want to direct? Were you inspired by Mona?

Brady Corbet: Mona's nodding her head like, "Yes, that's right Brady. It was me. It was me."

Mona Fastvold: [Laughs]

BC: No, what's actually stranger is that I didn't attempt to do it sooner. And it's strange that I kept acting as long as I did because for years I kept threatening to walk away and do something else. But the reason I never did walk away and do something else was I kept having opportunities to work with people I really liked and really loved. I was like, "Ok, I love your work. Absolutely I can spare a week, I can spare a month." I've worked for some people that I would have been happy to come wash their floors on set for a week just to see how they work, much less to have the relationship that an actor and a director get to have with one another, which is very special and sometimes very intimate, very unique. I've found every filmmaker I've worked with inspiring, Mona included.

One of the big problems with this project is that it summarized all the things I've really been interested in in my personal and creative life. And yet for so many years I just thought it was too grand and too ambitious to ever get made.

MF: And it almost did.

BC: And it almost did [laughs]. The film takes place in 1919, it stars a child, it's in French and English. Luckily it's not going to be four-and-a-half hours long and it's not going to be black-and-white. But that's it. It's not a very easy pitch. It's sort of about the birth of a megalomaniac and with a maniacal sort of ego at the turn of the century. It's about the birth of fascism that occurred during the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.

Has the identity of this character been revealed?

BC: I have intentionally not revealed the identity of the character. And it's a funny thing because it's not for the reasons that people think. One thing I will happily tell everybody is that the character is not Hitler [laughs]. And the character is not Mussolini. It's someone else. And there's the dramatic event where you learn who this person is and that's something I want to save for people. Robert Pattinson is not playing Hitler as you now know [laughs]. I'll go on the record saying that.
