You don’t have to be smart to understand: Generally speaking, there is worst fate than to became a poster-guy forced into hiding in a 5 star hotel rooms around the world. And Robert Pattinson is smart enough.

However it seems that he didn’t take is destiny from the bright side. He is young (25 in May), he has a lot of money, success, a job, the actor, which half of the world envy and potentially has all the women in the world at his feet. However you can see he is not happy. And the reason, I believe, lies in the fact that he is smart enough to understand that he is not so special after all.

He is down to earth even when everything around him is going crazy. And that’s makes him a good guy, but awfully alone.

If one day he decided to pack his things and disappear, nobody would be surprised about it.

I met him, few weeks ago, for the promotion of the movie Water for Elephants.

He adopted a dog. He wanted one for a long time.

“I don’t know how I’m going to take care of him, but if you have to travel around the world it’s good to have some company. I took him from a dog shelter: it makes me smile just thinking about that he went from a dog shelter to a four seasons’ suite.”

Quite the same happened to him.

Born into a normal British family- his mother a modeling agent, his father used to sell vintage cars- he wanted to work at international relations. His role as Cedric in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire came by accident, and the same was for the role that changed is life: The vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight.

He had a passion for music:

However for now he had to leave it.

“I play sometimes, but you need concentration to do it seriously, and right now I don’t have time”.

I told him that lots of his colleagues do music while working, he burst out laughing.

“Yes and the results are disastrous”

So, even if he doesn’t want to talk about his relationship with Kristen Stewart, she plays his eternal love in S.Meyer’s saga, not even Oprah made him talk about it, Robert told us that he divides his time between work and habits: Beer, gym, cigarettes and junk food.

But right now he just needs to sleep.

“Last night I worked, I just came back from Lousiana”. He is lucky that at his young age the lack of sleep makes him look sensual. (Kate: I think we'll all agree that EVERYTHING makes him look sensual! :-})

In Lousiana he is working on part 1 and 2 of the last installment of the Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn, which are coming out one year after the other and the first part it hitting the Theatre on November 18th 2011.

Meanwhile, here in LA, where they are promoting Water for Elephants, Robert is trying to drive his career away from the rule of the Romantic Vampire.

In the movie he plays Jacob, a vet student who, after his parents’ death, runs away from home without money.

While walking on the railways he meets a circus train. He jumps on it and because there are animals involved, he decides to stay.

Waiting for him there are 2 stunning creatures, Rosie and Marlena: an elephant and the queen of the show (Reese Witherspoon), also the wife of the mercurial circus owner (Christoph Waltz).

Q: is it true that in a script you always read the first and the last line?

A: "If someone good wrote the script usually beginning and ending works together: You have 75% of chance to have a good story in your hands.

Otherwise, you can be sure it’s not going to work. The problem is that the scripts with the worst first page are the one that became movies and makes a lot of money.”

Q: Are you saying that Twilight is one of those?

A: “ It doesn’t work always like that. But it’s true, first time I read it, it didn’t impressed me that much. I didn’t understand what was so special about it and why everyone was so excited about it.

Q: Water for Elephants is a love story.

A: “ The one thing that drew me in was the historical period, the Great Depression, and the circus. It’s Fascinating. Kids don’t dream to run away with a movie crew, but with a circus. Today that still happens, I think, but it sure happened in the 30’s, when there wasn’t any TV or any movie theatre around the corner. And I also like the fact that it was a movie with animals, about how you can have a relationship with animals. (he stops and starts laughing) I know that sounds so awful ”.

Q: Still it’s all about the love story between Jacob and Marlena.

A: “Even if at the beginning you think “Oh now he arrives, he sees her, they like each other and they run away together”, the story is more than that. Jacob falls in love at first sight with Marlena, but he doesn’t try to steal her. So much so that when she first kisses him and then rejects him, he is fine with it, for him she will always be an extraordinary woman, no matter what she is going to choose. Jacob doesn’t want to get, he is just ready to give. Best relationship ever.”

Q: Could you have an affair with a married woman?

A: “ Life is not black or white. There are married couple that don’t share anything anymore, could that be called marriage? There is also another thing that I don’t understand: Why people cheat.”

Q: You don’t understand what most of the people do??

A: “ I understand the instinct, but I don’t get how can you live in two different relationships at the same time. And even if I get that this can happens to someone who has kids, I can’t really get how someone free of commitments could possible choose to have 4 different girls at the same time. It must be hell, especially for a man.”

Q: Why especially for a man?

A: “ I believe that for a man it’s harder because it’s his job to take care of her, not in a material way, but in a physical way. He has to keep the relationship interesting: Doing it with lots of women at the same times seems so hard, like a real job.”

Q: Are you talking from experience??
A: “ I'm not the type for a casual affair, so if I decide to have a relationship with someone it’s because I truly want it. If I’m in a relationship I’m 100% committed to it, with all of myself. But if I would like to go out with different women I would not go out and tell people “Hi she's my girlfriend”.

Q: You don’t believe in cheating. And in the everlasting love??? Like the one in the movies??

A: “ My parents met when my mom was 17 and my dad 25, they are still together and they seem happy. So yeah I grew up believing in the everlasting love”.

Q: Speaking of parents in “Vanity fair” you had the rule of Reese Witherspoon’s son. But during the post production your part was cut out.

A: “ It was my first movie. She was already famous, and I remember that she was really sweet: She asked me if I wanted to read the lines with her, or if I had any doubts, questions”.

Q: In less then 10 years from Mother and son you became lovers..how it was?

A: “ When I think about it, I believe that making me play her son didn’t make any sense: She was 28 years old, too young to play my mom, this was one of the reason why the cut me out. Another reason was that our scene together was a depressing ending. The problem was that nobody told me anything. I found out only when I saw the movie.

And then someone asked Reese “Are you going to see Rawdy?”, the name of my character. In the version that I saw she answered yes and at the point when my scene was going to come she answered “No”.”

Q: This year you probably have another movie coming out, Bel Ami, with Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas. You play the seducer and you are going to have sex with lots of women, then on November Breaking Dawn part 1 in which you and Bella finally are going to have sex. You already said that you feel uncomfortable to shoot these scenes. Did you change your mind?

A: “ In Bel Ami I was lucky because we pretty much did it always with the dress still on. The problem was Twilight: the expectations are high, it seems like everyone was only talking about that. So I went to the gym everyday for a month. First time in my life I was in shape.”

Q: It only took a month?

A: “ Yes, and I couldn’t take more of it. But you forget about Cosmopolis (from DeLillo novel, directed by David Cronenberg) there are going to be even more sex scene. One of those happens while a girl is shooting me with a taser gun. Crazy.”

Q: Back to my question..did you get used to it or not?

A: “I don’t know. But I know that I’m going to have to go to the gym a lot.”

Q: We can tell that you are not one of those gym aficionado.

A: “ I go from one extreme to another. Before I start to work I have to work out everyday , 4 hours at day. Then stop. The same goes for the alcohol: sometimes too much, sometimes nothing. In lousiana it’s hard to resist the temptation; the problem is that I found out that if you drink 5 beers a day, going to the gym is useless: you can work as hard as you can, but your shape is going to stay the same. I’m starting to think that maybe I should quit drinking.”
