Damn thing won't load for me. YT anyone?

Sound quality so bad couldn't understand a word - does it look like he's reading off autocue? I wonder when he will be back in old London Town again.

Lemonless said...

@Lemonie: Not for a goodly while, I shouldn't imagine. Finish WFE, then straight into BD, isn't it? That's two movies' worth of filming. So we're talking late autumn at the earliest, aren't we? Nik or AP would know better than I would. I just watch the damn things when they come out.

lemonie said...

@ lemonless - ahhhh I fear you are right!!! Unless he gets here over Christmas - but maybe he'll stay in Cali this time .... just hoping I might have bumped into him on Oxford Street `(LOL - big hahah!) We do miss him over here - just had the London Premiere today - didn't catch any of it - but fans camped out even though the Holy trinity wasn't there - Will be interesting to see what the Box Office for UK does. Not screened here offically until July 9th though, although hoping I might get to the Midnight previews tomorrow!

@Lemonie: I know, I work in London too. I tried to go after work to the New Moon premiere but Leicester Square was gridlocked with screaming teens. I couldn't get any closer than five rows back.

@ lemonless -still nearer than me girl!!! When are you off to see the movie?

I'm not impressed with the thought that went into this video message. Summit arranged the promotion for Eclipse in the US with scores of interviews where Rob looked gorgeous against great backgrounds and then for the UK .... this.

This video looks like an afterthought, but it's actually the Robert Pattinson's speech for the UK Premiere of Eclipse. The room, the lighting, the quality, Rob's straight message, nothing special or memorable here. Is that a bathroom door behind him? This clip isn't going to be remembered by me. Somebody messed up here.

He looked great in his tux today ....

@TotallyRobbed

I couldn't agre more. Unfortunately that short, unprofessional looking tiny bit is not only all the UK fans get of Rob... it's also everything whole Europe gets. And althoug I LOVE the US it starts to make me angry that they get so many great interviews, show appearances AND the only real red carped premiere while we in Europe - "only" more than 300 Million people - literally get NOTHING. When Taylor&Kristen were in Berlin and some other places they really only did short press conferences and nothing for the fans. Absolutely no chance for us normal people to se any of the stars... and this looks pretty arrogant.

MMc said...

Lemonie - in another interview he said London was his favorite place in the world so I bet he'll be back whenever he can.

I couldn't understand a word of this video - not good audio - hope a better quality one shows up.

I know that the English fans felt slighted this time but the truth is, outside of America, England has gotten more from this franchise than any other country. But this time, he just couldn't. Sorry. But the man has a career to build outside of Twilight and at the moment, he is attempting to build it. And something else to consider...

Summit is going to spend the bulk of their promotional dollar where they are going to see the most return and that would be...America.
First and foremost, this is a business. And if the English fans are feeling so slighted (even though they got two premieres AND fan events in just one year's time) that it would cause them to stay away from the box office, well...then that's probably not a market that Summit will consider for future BIG promotions.

This time around they opted for Australia which has been of tremendous support for this franchise and they had to wait a year and a half to be included in the promotion.

Don't worry. They'll be back for BD.

TotallyRobbed said...

Nik:
Absolutely, I totally get what you said about the US market etc. I've worked this out many times and I’ve moved on now and shrug when I feel disgruntled. I've also given myself a strong reality check about just how much we do get in the UK compared with other parts of the world. So for me, no problems there. But ...

@Juli97:
I'm OK about Rob not getting here for the premiere - it was JUST the video message that I objected to. I know it's not Rob being thoughtless - I just think Summit could have made a better, clearer, high quality video for the fans instead of a video that looks like it's been shot by room service on a mobile. I don't think Rob would know the difference between a dud video of him and a blistering one - he doesn't analyse his appeal and he works around the clock - no blame to Rob. But as an example, the NTA video from the WFE set was sweet, but that was for a more low key award, not for a big opening night in Leicester Sq. Someone put some thought into that NTA video - just not a lot of thought here. What would it have cost Summit to have made a better video?

Btw, reports about fans being enraged at Leicester Square about Rob not showing up is surely the press spinning fans disappointment into rage. We all knew 3 weeks back that Rob wasn't coming and fans do their research, especially if they attend events – you need strategic planning to attend events!

Another thought about the UK ....

I’ve said before that I think Rob keeps the UK as a sacred zone. He can escape here and disappear, it’s really easy in London. I think he’s happy not to go for big publicity here because he has made references to this many times e.g. “pockets” of London where no one knows him and how about he hoped the Twilight hysteria would “switch off” when he came back the UK. I know he loves being here and the guy needs the freedom to move. He said London was his favourite place in the world in a recent video posted here and that says a lot. I used to get upset when I thought how many chat shows he has done in the US and zero in the UK (especially because Brit humour vs Brit humour could be mindblowing), but now I just think, fine, chill out, enjoy the peace, see your family etc.

This clip from YouTube has sound (sorry Kate, just wanted to put this in before thread dies in case my email is in a queue).

http://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=bW-Xd2Lkzgk

His speech is very hard to hear:

Hi to All the fans of Twilight in the UK. I hope you all have a very good time meeting the rest of the cast this evening. You've all been a huge support for the Twilight Saga and I hope you enjoy the Eclipse as much as the other films. Have a great match Tuesday?

I think that's what he says at the end, but we didn't have any world cup matches on Tuesdays?

I know a fan filmed this from a mobile, but it looks like a mobile video of a mobile video IYKWIM.

TotallyRobbed said...

That clip didn't work again! I found it on YouTube under title:

Twilight Saga: Eclipse premiere UK Robert Pattinson's fan message

might work if you search for it that way.

Got to confess, I'm disappointed at the coverage that Rob and Twilight Saga get in the UK - he is a young, talented and extremely popular BRITISH actor, for heaven's sake.

Here we are a day before the advance screenings of Eclipse, and the only publicity I've seen in Nottingham is a poster on the side of a bus! This isn't good enough.

But, I can understand Rob not being bothered about publicity in the UK, because at least it means he can have a bit of normality over here.

You'd think Summit might be a bit more interested, though!

So excited about the film, Sunday night can't come quickly enough for me, I need my Edward fix ... got a feeling this film is going to be sensational.

lemonie said...

@Nik - I think most of us UK fans realise how busy he is and don't mind that he is the US so much - we all realise its the biggest market in the world and dwarfs Europe by comparision. Would have been nice to have had a better clip from Rob - he looks so tired - as Totally Robbed said - looks like its been done on a mobile phone in his hotel room LOL! Surely summits PR could have arranged for him to do someting a bit better before all the press junkets got to much - I have to say it feels very scripted and on autocue - oh well he'll be back soon enough - just look after him guys while his is with you!!!!!!

I´m from Brazil, I never get to see Rob in person, but if he coming here means that he is not making as much movies part from twilight to move on with his career, I couldn´t care less. I totally understand why he could not promote eclipse that much.

Can´t wait to see WFE and I will always support his career, specially if he want to become a HUGE ACTOR and not just a star!

Jazz_Girl317 said...

He looks and sounds pretty tired. It looks like the same shirt and room in which he shot the promo vid for MovieFone's TwilightNight event. Poor baby has been run ragged in trying to do as much publicity stuff as he can, while maintaining an insane shooting schedule for WfE. He gives as much as he can. And now, such a brief break between WfE and preproduction for BD. Take a rest, love. Gods know you've earned a layin.

nikola6 said...

I didn't look at the video as I watch so few of them so I cannot judge the quality of it but you all seem to be of the same opinion that there isn't much quality to it and I'll take your word for that.

Why they didn't make a more grand production of it? I don't know. He was exhausted, in the middle of a physically and emotionally demanding role that had to be interupted in order to do more 'mind numbing' publicity for Twilight? (And I say mind numbing because this is his THIRD go round at having to go out and schill this thing. I promise you...he's bored and he's done with the selling of this and wishes to god he didn't have to say another word about it). And perhaps this was an afterthought, meaning, at the end of an exhaustive day they threw it at him with...'Rob, we gotta shoot a promo for the London premiere' and he maybe he thought, 'jesus, just give me the script and turn the camera on me'. I'm not saying that's how it played out, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. And maybe Summit was arrogant and thought...the British fans love him so much that we could put him in an outhouse and they wouldn't care, just so long as they got to see his face and be acknowledged by them. From some of the 'outrage' apparently Summit was wrong.

As for Rob not being "bothered" to do publicity in the UK for this franchise...he's done more publicity there than in ANY other country outside of the U.S. And correct if I'm wrong, but has he sent a message such as this for the fans of countries at their premieres? And one other thing...

His being British has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the amount of publicity done in England. Yes, he is England's beautiful son and how proud you should be to claim him as your own but publicity is about marketing ONLY! If he had been born and raised on the island of Tazmania, Summit would not be pouring money into a mountain of publicity there because there isn't enough of a market there to warrent it.

Robert Pattinson has given more of his time to the fans and to selling of this franchise than most actors would. And prepare yourselves...

Once he is through with these films, you are not going to see him doing a 10th of this kind of publicity in the future. So enjoy it now and be grateful for what he is giving back. Because at this point in the proceedings, he doesn't have to anymore. This monster is sold. After the sucess of New Moon, ANYTHING he gives to the fans from this point on is a GIFT! And when someone gives you a gift, the proper and polite thing to say is...

Thank you.

(and not bitch and moan 'cause the gift wasn't big enough)

nikola6 said...

That should have read...

has he sent a message such as this for the fans of OTHER countries at their premieres?

I apologize for my harsh tone there.
I understand that the British fans are disappointed because they didn't get to see him this time. But my god, the sense of ENTITLEMENT
that people have about this man. Not only in terms of his publicity chores but in his personal life as well.

It's rather unbecoming if you ask me. As I've said before around here, he OWES us one thing and one thing only...a performance that we have paid to see. That's it. He OWES us not one thing more.

And I have never understood why people don't seem to understand that. And if someone would care to enlighten me as to why he does indeed owe us more, I'm listening and always willing to learn something new.

@ Nik - redirect you back to my earlier post on this post - and @totally Rob and @Carol UK - lets not generalise about the UK fans - 99.9percent know how lucky we are, its the 0.1percent who complain and I suspect yet again its the media trying to put a negative spin on things (don't they just love to knock something thats a success).

Or course we brits feel proprietorial about Rob because he's English - I,m sure it would be the same for you if he was American.

There was a whole group of women on the Daily Mail online London premere report with t-shirts which said "robbed:" - well they knew he wasn't coming to the premiere coz it takes a while to get the tees printed up - so how could they have been that disappointed?!!! Some people just love being in the media eye and try to score points over other fans in different countries Its all a bit pathetic and stupid really. Hopefully most of us are more mature than that!
RE video:
Yeah and we get that he was tired and bored with promoting eclipse - no ones blaming him - but it would have been nice if Summit had preplanned some time for Rob to make some proper acknowledgements to send out to key countries. I don't care how big the American market is - this is a worldwide phenomenon and they have to acknowledge that fanbase too. So please don't patronise us - I think we all get the picture.

I can understand the sentiments of the UK fans in some respect, i.e. promotional video. They (Suumit) could have done a better job of promoting Eclipse for the European market.

Also, whoever is responsible for promoting the film in UK should have a hand in here too. I think they are the distributor of the film in UK & Europe.

Fans should querry the distributor in UK to let their feelings known and wants better video promotion in the future if Rob couldn't attend in person. LOL

TotallyRobbed said...

Nik, you DO need to see the video to understand the disappointment – it’s only 15 seconds long. Then you might get that the sound quality alone is quite ridiculous – why don't you look at videos you don’t mind me asking?

My issue is about the VIDEO only and about Summit, not Rob, and I stated this in my post, no entitlement about Rob either. You may have put all the posts together and seen an uprising, but it’s not like that. The UK fans aren’t rebelling either – that’s all tabloid and internet spin – nothing will stop fans seeing the film.

I assume Summit are responsible for publicity about Eclipse and they have done an amazing job. Eclipse has been hugely promoted ever since the MTV Movie awards (the kiss was enormous publicity for R&K AND the film) and then the blanket of interviews, a press conference, junkets, guest appearances on chat shows, magazine interviews, radio interviews, gossip show items, TV news items, press interviews, etc. Everything brought in publicity for Eclipse and I understand that’s what Summit do to market their film.

But you’d think after all that effort and all that planning that went into all the Eclipse, Summit could come up with something halfway decent for the UK Premiere clip – apparently not. Even if it was Rob in the same cream shirt that he did 100+ interviews in - that would have been fine by me. As I said – not impressed with this.

If the situation was reversed and this was a fan video for the US with Rob unable to attend the US Premiere ......? Eeeek! This post would be 500 replies + and it would jump from thread to thread for days – really.

Lemonie - ITA 100%.

TotallyRobbed said...

Nik,

Something else came to mind. I think you missed the point when you said that the UK got 2 premieres and a fan event in one year. The UK fans will not want to be told this because it’s just rubbing salt in the wound. It’s for the UK fans to think that out for themselves, if someone says it for them, as you have in the land where Rob is plentiful – well, that’s going to touch a nerve.

I've re-read your posts and they are harsh. Although you apologised for your tone it became heated again about fans' entitlement attitude and how unbecoming it was and how Rob owes us nothing. ITA if fans behave that way – but as Lemonie says, please don’t go by the small percentage or the UK tabloids (ugh!) and think we are all the same. It also sounds like you may be addressing everyone who posted about it.

But, regarding the premiere, I can see where pain comes from. In the USA, every time Rob does a live event, whether it’s any of the regular 5 or 6 big chat shows that he goes on like Ellen, Kimmell etc, morning TV appearances, award shows, Comic Con and obviously his big premieres, it is a chance to see Rob in the flesh. So many opportunities where fans can apply for tickets or they can wait outside, meet up, have a laugh and a catch a glimpse, get an autograph and even touch him! That’s lucky for the USA and I accept that the USA is where the big money is. I'm OK with that because what puts the whole thing in perspective for me is that I remember that so many countries get little or nothing in terms of live events featuring Rob so, I’m extremely grateful and think the UK are really lucky to get as much as we do. Maybe everyone doesn’t calm down so quickly, but please don’t jump on words so quickly. It’s sadness that’s being expressed.

It's hard on a blog to convey disappointment. Knee-jerk reactions and words can be pounced on while meanings get lost in the process. I believe that fans in the UK were disappointed about the premiere, but my reaction was disappointment about that f**king video – I was surprised about Summit, not demanding entitlement from Rob. The subject in question which is the title of this post, is something you haven’t seen because, as you say, you don't watch these videos, but I watch videos and it meant something to me! It feels academic now, but I’m reacting to your reaction because you seem to have leapt from 0-100 in a second particularly about the entitlement thing.

My ex-partner (whose spoke very little English when I first met him) used to say when we argued: “Don’t jump on my word, I don’t have the word, just get my meaning!” Bless him.

I don’t think any of this was really about entitlement Nik, like I say, people who posted here from the UK are mostly sad about things.
