On closer inspection (yes. I actually zoomed in on these), I don't think he's waxed that chest. I still can't figure out why he would. Why would Jacob have to be de-fured? I mean, his leading lady is 10 years older than him. Wouldn't they want him looking more a man, than a boy?

Ya wanna hear something scary? He's only 24. And as beautiful and mature looking as he already is, he's not even there yet. Wait till he's 34...44. It takes a man that long to really come into his looks.
I still think that one day, in terms of his beauty, as he grows more into it (as impossible as that seems. how can he get any more beautiful? but he's gonna. you watch), he could be regarded as the male version of Garbo. And she is regarded as -arguably- the greatest screen beauty in film history. I'd have to agree.
And it's not that her beauty was absolute perfection. It wasn't. But it was so unusual. No one looked like Garbo and the camera was completely in love with her face. Same with Rob. Yeah, he does resemble Brando and Dean, but he's even more beautiful than they were.

There's been some discussion about Marlena's age and it's never really been pinned down. Some thought she might be as young as 21because she was 17 when she met August and that possibly four years had passed. But it was always my impression that she was a bit older than Jacob who's 23, although certainly not 10 years older than him. But Rob looks older and Reese looks younger and I think they're gonna pair up just fine together.
Emilie de Ravin and all the Bel Ami gals are older than him. My guess is throughout his 20's, the majority of his leading ladies will be older. I'm waiting for Natalie Portman, Kiera Knightley and Marion Cottiard.

Jacob's with Barbara and the other coochie girls and he gets drunk off his ass. Totally shit faced. And the next morning, he wakes up in a trunk. I believe he's got a red neglige on (and nothing else), they've painted his face like a clown and they've shaved his balls. And everybody in the circus knows and he's so humilated. It's soooooo damn funny.

I'm guessing a late summer (Aug) to early fall (Oct) of 2011. Your baby should be nearly a year old before this is out. You're not gonna have to worry 'bout your water breaking when Mr. Gorgeous wanders into the frame. You're gonna have to worry 'bout getting lots of babysitters. I don't recall either of those lines in the script. They've had to streamline the book quite a bit and yeah, as wonderful as that script is...it ain't the book.
And I'd bet all of my extremities that they're going for a PG-13 in order to reach a wider audience. Hollywood just cannot market R rated films anymore. And I just don't understand why. We see more on cable tv than we do in the movies these days.
It's time for another golden age of films. The first was in the
30's and the second in the 70's.

@Nik: My only caveat about posting detailed scenes from the script is it has changed from the draft, and is ever changing. Previously some were disappointed that scenes from RM/Memories weren't as writ. So this is a just a reminder before people get too attached to their fav moments from the book or draft that until the scene is filmed, edited and printed for delivery, it's not 'done.' Warning from fuddy over - spoil away.

Don't know if Rob is actually tan or if it's just make up. I'm gonna go with make up as I think that gorgeous english peaches and cream complexion of his would get scorched in the sun.
In fact I think he once said that he can't tan. He burns. I would imagine that under all that makeup, he's lathered in sun screen. He better be if he wants to hold onto that gorgeous skin.
Look at Mel Gibson and Johnny Depp.
Both smokers. Both drinkers. Both with some history of recreational drug use. But one has lived in the sun and the other has not, keeping his skin pale. And at 54, Mel looks like he's well into his 60's and at 46, Johnny could pass for 10years younger.
Drink. Smoke. Play around a little with whatever, but stay the hell out of the sun Rob. THAT will destroy looks faster than anything else.

it's so funny. last spring I bought a new pair of sunglasses and walked into work one day and my coworker said.. "you look like robert pattinson!" my response "who???" she just laughed and explained then i realized who she was talking about.. i had seen him on magazine covers ect! Not quite living under a rock but I had a baby in March 08 ... just exactly when Twilight and Rob were getting HUGE and I was oblivious with my new bundle and figuring out breastfeeding and sleep and everything to do with becoming a mother. I also don't read tabloids or watch entertainment shows so I was really out of the loop!!!
Then this January my partner told me I should watch twilight????? I'd had friends tell me to read the books but I love to read but thought ummm vampire stuff is not really my thing! Anyway my guy had watched Twilight online for some reason. whaat a guy eh?? So new years day I watched it.. then again then with the audio commentary on and well that was IT!!!!!!! I was Robsessed from then on!

Scenes can be rewritten the night before (or the morning of) and even dialouge can change right up to the moment the director calls action. And I would imagine that Rob's thrown his 2 cents into the ring (pun intended). As bright as he is and with his ability to break down a character, any director would be foolish not to consider to his imput.
They've got more than just a pretty face phoning in a performance riding around on the coattails of him fame in Rob Pattinson. They've got themselves a goddamn actor.
And that's why I think he's IT. He's the complete package. Hollywood thinks so too.

Now I think just the opposite; that he looks more mature with the short hair cut. And I do think there are a few actresses in his age group that are terrific...
Kiera Knightley and Scarlett Johannson are just a year older than him (and I know that Scarlett takes a lot of crap because of her celebrity. but you keep an eye on her. like Charlize Theron, she's going to prove herself more than just a beautiful face). Then there's Ellen Page who I think is 2-3 years younger than him. I actually think Ellen could have played Bella. And even though she's 8 years younger than him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him paired up with Dakota Fanning one day. And of course, Kristen. I do hope they work together again one day, but I think it's gonna have to be years before they do. They gotta put Twilight waaaaaay behind them first. Kate and Leo waited over a decade to work together after Titanic.

Please read it. It is one of the best stories I have EVER read.
And I've recommended this book to about 15 people and not a one of them has come back disappointed. They LOVED it. And they're telling their friends.
And some of them are not even Twilight fans, but they want to see this film.

yep, he's a REAL actor! after viewing Little Ashes for the 2nd time yesterday, there is no doubt in my mind that man can get into a character and own it. Some amazing scenes in that one.

Nik - You got me to pondering with your earlier comment about a new "golden age" for Hollywood. I can't help but wonder that even if the suits weren't controlling it all for money, even they were to offer more quality instead of the usual, would audiences really go to see that? Since people tend to use movies for escapism, how would realistic or gritty dramas bring them in? Yes, there'd be good acting, good scripts, etc. But at the end of a long work week, people generally don't want reality. They want the HEA, and the fancy, expensive, world that doesn't exist in their day to day.

I read on one of the comments that they sent their sis-in-law the pix on her phone and she walked into a car. Love it! Could not stop laughing. I am only grateful that I was sitting down when I saw them.
I do hope Rob has plenty of sun screen because they are saying will get up into the 90's possibly 100 degrees this weekend. The shooting location is in a small valley known for its high temps.

I do agree with you in part. Most of the majors do have an independent arm now and yes, they want quality and prestiges films too. But what they're not doing is, they're not marketing them and that's because they know there's no money in them. Jeff Bridges wins the Oscar for "Crazy Heart", but how many people have actually seen it as oppose to the event films? Summit distributed this year's Best Picture winner "Hurt Locker" and has a tenth of the budget they spend to sell the Twilight franchise gone to help promote this film...the best picture of the year? NOPE!
I just think that if they'd market these small, independent films better, they would find a bigger audience. But unfortunately, not a big enough one. And that's because (and I agree with you), I think that most people look at films as escapist fare and not the art form that they are.
And therefore...they need to be educated about it. I'm always one for raising the bar. Not lowering or pandering in search of the almighty dollar. But I am not a business person. I am a very odd duck.
Rob, you are the epitome of the 1930s look for a man in these pics. Each new character steals my heart.
Oh, yeah, he's going to be a leading man whether he thinks so or not for a long, long time yet. And in his 40s? I can't even think. Rob is going to be drop dead gorgeous. ITA, hard to believe he could get better but he will. He's matched with older women now and when he gets older the women will get younger and younger. You know what? it will all look just as natural. He's one of a kind.

Education will probably always be the root of the issue. How do you educate an audience to become interested in a broader spectrum of movies? Particularly ones that don't always have a clear cut ending?
Had that song from The Killers stuck in my head this morning - All These Things I've Done - and so of course, I had to pull up the vid on youtube with Timberlake lip-synching to it in Southland Tales. Movie got terrible reviews, and so many people said they couldn't understand it. Yet, it was some of the best art I'd seen in that genre. (Totally subjective, of course.)

Rob gets into character so quickly and we all love each character who are so different from each other. That's what makes a good actor when he is so believable in each of his roles. I think WFE is going to be one of his best movies.
I'm speechless looking at these photographs.
The reason why this look works so well for him is that it's timeless. The headshots could be from any era, the haircut and the sideburns show a young man - they won't ever date. WFE images of Rob will probably figure highly in his golden career history because they show his beauty to the max.
Needless to say, the way he looks is beyond words. He is here to stay and no one can touch him.

And he is young, so young. And there's so much more to come.
There has never been an actor that I have loved like this man and I cannot imagine that there will ever be another in his league for me. I'm not easily moved into ecstacies about filmstars etc. He never disappoints and he doesn't make silly choices, he just goes from strength to strength.
This year in particular, I feel like we're seeing him mature at a very high speed. First Bel Ami with the new look and the adult themes, then a more mature Rob at the Rem Me premier+promotions, and now these classic pics and lots of high profile movie stars that he's getting to working with. He's amazing.
Got to go, being dragged off to watch a horror film - 28 days later - well that's going to change my mood!

A chameleon, a real actor, one of a kind, (I disagree that he looks like Dean or Brando), with a career that has legs. IF only he can get beyond the Twilight franchise, and people outside the fandom will start to take him seriously. I sent my friend Matt the Les Grossman MTV video. He loves the send-up TC does with that character and LOL'd at the video, but I said what about Rob? His POV: That's really all about Tom. I said Oh no it isn't, trust me! He totally dismisses Rob. But he did Leo DiC., too, until Leo starting doing serious character parts (ie The Departed). Rob is working his beautiful ass off to challenge and prove himself as an actor in the role choices he's making. It's unfortunate that he's doing it while the franchise is still alive and he has to endure being "Edward" for another 2 years?
@Nik, if you're still around, gimme the timeline again. How far apart will release of BD and WFE be?
