Don't count on any pics of them together on the red carpet for Eclipse either, which is stupid considering they're co-stars.

Maybe the seats next to them are for publicists, or bodyguard,s or +1's or something like that. Most people who go to these types of events don't go alone; and that doesn't mean they always take a "date" either.
RPG: every star gets a seat and a plus one. So unless these two officially told MTV that they were each other's plus one, they'll always have a seat in-between them.
Who likes to bet? Last year Rob brought Steph and Kris brought her bro, I think. Who'll be alongside them this year.... besides PRLover?!
On a different thread they have a pic of Kristen's cat,"Jella",sitting in the empty seat......hahaha,too funny.

I'm gonna guess that 'engagement' is a bit premature.
As for seating...
Loisada is correct. Since they haven't come out as a couple, they will not be attending this very public event as one. They'll be attending as co-stars. But they're getting closer. As I recall, were they even sitting in the same section last year? By next year, she'll most likely be sitting on his lap. And the following year, they'll be doing it in the aisle. Heh Heh. But don't be expecting them to walk down that red carptet together either. Can you imagine the pandemonium if they did? Other stars would be trampled by the papps in their effort to get to Rob and Kristen.
I would venture to say that, at the moment, catching those two in ANY way that could be interpreted as 'coming out' would be the most sought after papp shot in the world.
I'm just wondering how they're gonna top last year's little 'performance' if they win the 'kissing' award again? Although don't be surprised if Kristen and Dakota win it. MTV loves girl on girl action. And if they did, don't be surprised if they lock a little lip. And some might ask, why would she kiss Dakota and not Rob? Because kissing Dakota wouldn't be real. Kristen would be giving nothing up of herself to do so.
In a way, I'm kinda hoping that Kristen and Dakota do win it. I know. Blasphemy. But think about it. Rob and Kristen are gonna get nominated for this for next three years, for a total of five consecutive years;

2013 (Breaking Dawn, Pt.II)
By the time we get to 2013, the MTV crowd is gonna be so sick of this thing. Kinda like the fanboys having had enough of Comic Con being taken over by the TWIhards. They can't win this every year (for FIVE years straight???) or it'll become redundant.
But I'm gonna bet that the fans won't get that. Every once in awhile, ya gotta look at the big picture.
