Robert Pattinson Eyeing Up A Shocking Role?

Robert Pattinson Eyeing Up A Shocking Role?

Or so UK's "The Sun" Newspaper tells us so do I need to tell you there's a grain of salt warning with this one. He did say in an interview last year that he had read this book but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Photobucket

From The Sun
ROBERT PATTINSON's army of fans are in for the shock of their lives if he lands the X-rated part he craves.

The lusted-after lad is lobbying for a leading role which will see him Hoover up more drugs than PETE DOHERTY and AMY WINEHOUSE combined, sleep with scores of prostitutes and get away with a blood-curdling murder. (Kate: Oh and emm I think he's done the sleeping with prostitutes bit already, hello "Bel Ami" so that's not exactly gonna shock us!)

The Twilight heart-throb would be playing sinful record label A&R man Steven Stelfox in the big-screen adaptation of gruesome music industry satire Kill Your Friends.
Bag

The novel - one of my favourites of recent years - centres on Steven, who's like the British version of Patrick Bateman - the character played by CHRISTIAN BALE in American Psycho.

Written by former major label A&R man and fellow Scot JOHN NIVEN, it is set in the mid-Nineties and, like Trainspotting, leaves nothing to the imagination.

Music-mad R-Patz reckons it is just the job for him.

A source said: "Rob is a huge fan of the novel.

"He is fascinated by the music industry and is keen to get involved in the project.

"He's already approached producers telling them he wants to play the leading man.

"If he gets the role it would be the darkest part he's ever played.

"It's an incredibly adult character and is bound to shock the tweens who account for such a huge part of Rob's fan base."

The flick is already gaining momentum with serious film investors looking at it.

Drum 'n' bass legend GOLDIE - who is viciously parodied in the novel - has also requested a role.

However, Rob's bid is not helped by author John.

He has confessed to not knowing who R-Patz is, saying: "I'm not a teenage virgin, so how would I know who he was?"

Hopefully you will soon, John.
Thanks to Kim for the tip!

I read the book, it's really dark.

If this is true, it would be a very different role for rob.

He might be good in it, crazy that they are making that novel to a movie.

teenage virgin...pfft! *eyeroll*

Not heard of this book, but it sounds like a challenging role for Rob to get his teeth into (no pun intended).

Okay. I'm gonna try this again. I typed out my first post and it disappeared and it says on the front page that there are already 2comments, yet none are showing up on this page that I'm typing on. Either my comp is wonky or the blog is. But I'll try it again and if this posts twice? Whatever? What I said was...

If he were to take on such a role, this would be a hard R so he wouldn't have to worry about offending his tween fans cause they'd be too young to see it and he probably wouldn't have to worry about the TWImom crowd either because they just want to see him as the romantic lead ALL THE TIME.

But I think Rob would get bored with that very quickly. I've said all along, it won't surprise me if he takes on such dark roles. I fully expect it and welcome it. I don't just want him to be a romantic, gorgeous, leading man on screen. I want him to be a fucking great actor.

And if that means that occasionally he's got to bury that movie star persona and go to the dark side to do it...so be it.

Actors like to play those kinds of roles that are the furthest from their own true selves. At least the curious ones looking for a challenge do.

Nothing shocking by that.

Teenage virgine ? yeah right !

Hes deff making movies the Leo way. Good for him !

And I also think that as he moves on from Twilight and takes on roles that might be shocking to some, that alot of this fandom is going to drop by the wayside. And the ones left standing?

His TRUE fans. Fans of his talent. Not just of the gorgeous leading man or the sex symbol.

Go get 'em Rob.

hey nikola still have the Sam Bradley tickets?

And I also don't think that it's entirely about trying to distance himself from Edward Cullen. I truly think that there is just something in his psyche that is drawn to this kind of material. There just seems to be something about the 'edge' of life that fascinates him. Alot of true artistic types are that way.

The truth is...
If he and Kristen had gotten their way, Twilight would have been a helluva lot darker. But Summit couldn't have sold that and Meyer wouldn't have stood for it and they didn't have the power or clout to get their way. Oh. They got some of their way, but they had to compromise and as actors I can assure you, they hated that.

In fact, I think I read somewhere that Kristen made comment about they wished they could have made the Twilight that they WANTED. Now THAT would have been interesting.

Yup. Those two truly are art house babies.

nikola6 said...

Yes Kimmie...

I've got six of them. Well. I don't have them with me. I suppose they're at that box office with my name on them. I think I'd have to pick them up and show ID or something. A friend got them for me and I didn't pay anything for them, so...they're free.

And they're for his opening night and I figure if I have to go down to that box office, I might as well take one myself and go in. But that would leave five.

You need some?

Petra Eller said...

Yes Rob, shock me!!!!!!!!!!!

I will love you anyway.

@nikola6

I cant help but to agree with you.

I think whatever kind of moives he gonna be making in the future will be wacth by the people that see him to the real person he is and not just Edward Cullen..(meaning all the teeens)

But even teeens grow up.

It's a constant source of amazement to me how lazy these journalists are "teen fanbase" has it not sunk in by now that if this blog is any indication 70-80% of Robs fans are over the age of 20?

Actually. She did spell it correctly. Was just worried that she got it wrong and cared enough to want to get it right. And is he a bastard because he almost spelled Oprah as opera?

I know tgill...
It's amazing how truly stupid the celebrity press is. Anybody with a brain could see that there aren't enough teenagers in the world to put up the kinds of numbers that these books and films have. Nearly a 100 million books and over a billion at the box office AND still counting.

I think they just look at the screaming teenagers who show up at the events and figure...that's it. That's whats doing all of this.

I guess it's easier to just keep recyling the same old shit rather than taking a good look at this thing and seeing it for what it really is. That might require a little thought and god forbid, some analysis?

Oh dear. Can't have that.

its_ashley said...

He's 24. He can't play a teen forever. He's getting to the point where he wants more adult rolls n prove to people that he is a serious actor who can act. No fault in doing that. I'm not surprised, the roll maybe but I hope he gets the part if its true.

I know I should just keep my stupid, big, damn mouth shut, but it just sets my teeth on edge that some will find any little thing as an excuse to take a swipe at this girl.

It's pathetic and worse...

It's getting BORING!

Oh, this would be a great role for Rob! I wonder if Gossipcop will find out the truth of this story.

I don't know this novel but will get to read it! American psycho is on my top 10 list of books, so if it's got anything to do with it might be great and a nice change.
Rob playing that kind of part could be great and challenging... That's what he needs to get away from the media image of Edward Cullen, which is not as fairy tale as that, if you use your brain for just a second. LOL... what most journalists don't do!
Anyway, could be great to see our man taking that kind of risk...
Break the image they made of you, and shows us what we already know... LOL... You're the best, so go for it !

I would absolutely love it if he got the part. This book is now one of my favourites and I kinda like the idea of Rob playing a total a**hole.Actually I've always pictured him as Steven while reading However since this is The Sun I won't get my hopes up too high. It would still be interesting on screen though.

do i care about his "teen base"...ahhh no.he is an adult, he will make more adult movies...sorry teens, tweens.go for the gusto rob....reach for the interesting, thought provoking.i will pay money to see it.

Rob mentioned somewhere that "Kill Your Friends" was a book he had really enjoyed. I read it last month (yeah, blame it on the Rob) and it's incredibly good... and it's not the kind of book I would ever have read if he hadn't mentioned it. The book is a real tour de force: you can't help admiring Steven Stelfox, who is a character so evil that Bel-Ami looks like an angel compared to him. And yes, its' all gory drugs, sex and rock'n'roll, and it's very graphic - if you see what I mean. All the darkest aspects of human nature are there. Steven is the perfect villain, with not a single trait to redeem him, he's almost a caricature, and yet so true. You juts suspend disbelief. It's amazing. And the book is also amazingly funny, it will make you howl with laughter. However it's not for the faint-hearted. I don't much trust this paper but the weird thing is, when I finished the book, I thought that it would translate very well into a film and that it would be an amazing role for Rob. So I'll just keep my fingers crossed. It would be rated R+++... anyway, just read that book, it's just so good!

Ripley said...

Rob's talent and good looks can only be for NON tween roles. He outshines any acotrs that play those roles and he doesn't fit in with them. He's his own man, own talent, and his very special looks.

ShariG said...

Has this guy been living under a rock? I'm not a teenage virgin either, but if you don't know who Rob Pattinson is you are either lying to get a reaction or you are just plain too into yourself to ever look out at the world. Rob is rightfully everywhere in pop culture now and for the past two years.

skorpia said...

whateva man-I think this makes me want to read the book. The Sun is NOTORIOUS for typing BS on a grand scale. IF Rob is even considering this role I'd think it would be great. If this is even true-cause I never heard anything about this at all :(

hazeleyes said...

that should read...i dont care about his teen base..lol sorry didnt have glasses on.

Marie said...

Agree with @nikola6

I mean when he wants to play it & gets the part, he should play it. It's in his hands. And I also wouldn't want the image of the Twilight Babe forever.
Though I don't really like The Sun, but whatever.

Anonymous said...

Was it the Sun that started the Cobain rumor, or was that the Daily Mirror?

my piece hello ladies,i think rob will do great i what he do and if it is true that author don't know who he is because he don't read teenagers vampire books and to him that was a joke well well mr author if this is true all of this is true what the sun have written the smile will be soon wipe of the author's face because with rob in that movie the author's book will start coming off the shelves so quickly way to go MR p

Fiftyshadesofpink said...

The book was very good, and it would certainly be an *ahem* interesting part for Rob to play.

If it had been written elsewhere I may have been excited - but, The Sun? Comic.

solas said...

I probably would not be seeing this, although I would certainly remain a fan; depends on why it would be x rated.
But if he feels this is a character he wants to explore and portray, so be it. My only concern is the effect it would have on hmjself ot prtray such a character; we know playing DuRoy affected him as he said he could not write or even play music, nor could he read. Playng dark stuff DOES affect a good actor and a good person who is an actor; if they cannot find the darkness within themselves they have to experience (some vicariously and some through actual real stuff) it to feel and wear the soul of the character, and it is perhaps scarier if they CAN access that within themselves. However, Rob seems to have gotten it out of his system; if he can have a good enough rest after it is done (if indeed the rumour is true and if indeed the movie is actually made)then hopefully he will emerge unscathed.

Haystackhair said...

I don't see them making this x rated. It would put it in a whole different category. Besides, MTV should be x rated these days, and the teens get to watch that! LOL
I agree Rob is an adult and will be great in whatever he chooses. it wouldn't surprise me if he looked at this role, he got quite a kick out of playing Georges because the guy was amoral.

Kelly Louise said...

If that turns out to be true, I'm really happy for him. I know how much he loves the book, would be great for him if he'd get the role.

sarsaparilla said...

I agree playing dark character definately must affect ones psych, and if it is immoral and mass murderer type, it will tarnish ones ability to function as a sane person, but the effect is not permanent. What happened to character roles are'nt any available for Robert pattinson.

Sars--Rob has said more than once he rarely sees a script he likes, so I guess good parts, for himself, are few and far between. I hope that he can continue to only pick what he wants, and if it means making less films per year, so be it-- Quality is way better than quantity, IMNSHO, and I like for him to rest and regenerate between films (and all of that promo stuff), and I would love for him to be working on his music and getting that together.

Wow! It's just a rumor right now, but wow...

I read the book a few months ago...I struggled through it as it's not normally something i'd read (thanks Rob) but this is something I could see him doing....

It's rare for him to like scripts so if this turns out to be true... You go Rob!!!!

This man will get an Oscar someday, you can bet on it or him...

@rpattzgirl - I agree with you. Good book, good part for Rob. I really can imagine him playing Stelfox. But I guess we can't trust the Sun, BS newspaper #1. Let's wait and see... I will keep hoping..

Hi Rob fans!!!

I've been reading this blog for some time now and I really enjoy all of the "news" on Rob...because I am indeed "Robsessed". I have become a "die-hard" fan of Rob but only recently. At first, I couldn't see the appeal of Twilight...I thought it was more for my teenage daughter, who read the books first. Boy was I wrong!!! I absolutely love everything about Twilight...especially Rob…and not because of "Edward" but because of ROB. Through this blog I've seen all of his many interviews in which he always shows, to me anyway, how sincere he is as a person. He really does not let all of his success go to his head and I find that endearing. Ok…Ok…also because he is a “god” with those mesmerizing eyes.

So now, being a woman in her mid forties...well never mind that...a woman that is not a teenager and as Robsessed as I am...I have one question.

Don't know if the "powers that be in Hollywood" have given this any consideration?

Wouldn't you love to see Rob as the next James Bond? (please tell me what you think) Wouldn't Rob just breathe LIFE back into James Bond? Wouldn't you like to see him in a Bond love scene?

solas said...

Thanks Ap on both counts-- also-1-from where did the term 'chumming' or 'chumming the waters' come into the language? is it from somethng from TV, or movie? i have never heard the root 'chum' used like this. (have heard, decades ago, the term 'chum' used for 'pal').
As for Atlas shrugged-- I suppose they can get more into a miniseries. I did not get anything on the site; have to check again--perhaps I did something incorrectly. I would hav eloved to see it done epic and grand, on a big screen, with epic actors, like cate blanchett for dagney, and maybe russel crowe for john, but I realize that probably too much would be cut out to fit into the time limits of a movie. Maybe by the time it is done as a miniseries, I will have a big screen tv ;-).

Guilchirs--I think it migh tbe too challenging physically for Rob, and I don't think it would be chalenging enough for him emotionally/intellectually; he looks for interesting scripts with interesting characters.
