Ok... CH may be wacky, possibly even a little flakey, possibly in no way would have been able to pull off the whole franchise... but she DID create magic. The mood she conjured and the cast she found and put together is something no one else would have accomplished. There would have been no Twilight phenomenom without her. I have to say I really like the "Another Level of Special" analogy. How well does THAT fit? I also think it would be wild fun to go out to dinner with CH, and maybe for a few drinks too.
Yes, I always felt that she had it bad for him, and of course who could blame her...getting to see, hear and smell him up close for days and weeks on end! It's almost too much to imagine. Well, actually I imagine he smells like a combination of Armani cologne and ciggies...tempered with a Tic Tac or two ;D Thanks CH for presenting us with a way to find our youthful passions again.
CH is too much of a chatty Cathy at times but this time I don't mind her speaking of Rob this way.
If it were not for her and Kristen both fighting for him in the role of Edward ( Kristen said she would not accept the role of Bella without him as Edward) there would be no Robsessed!
@angie, nellieduff, very well said. I will always love Twilight. I am grateful to CH for her passion and dedication. And most of all for introducing us to a young man named Robert Pattinson.
Me, too, Angie-k. I will always be grateful to CH for having the good sense to see how special Rob is and to recognize the immediate and strong chemistry between Kristen and Rob. I agree, nellieduff. She is a little whacko, but a lot of creative people are. She saw something and created something in Twilight that is in itself a whole new level of special.
Cougwick is the eternal Peter Pan (she even looks like him in this video). I think that's why she alwas works with young casts. She is endearing in a flaky-aunt-at-Thanksgiving sort of way. But then again that's the aunt who is not put in charge of the family finances. However nutty she made the folks at Summit, they owe her a debt of gratitude that they were able to syphon just enough of her casting magic to make them gazillionaires. Also Shyla Fernandez probably hates Kristen's guts for costing him Twilight. ;)
PS: I love that when she gets the question about Rob she closes her thighs and rubs them together. (I feel your pain Cougwick, I feel your pain)
Yup, we owe her big time, I've always given her major credit for choosing and fighting for Rob to be Edward. I would not be typing these words right now and this blog would not exist but for her! And yes, @M Summit should be thanking her too!!
I have a bit of a grudge against CH for being mouthy last year but I do think her casting was brilliant. Her depiction of Twilight was dark and campy and NOT how I pictured it reading the book. In spite of it's flaws, it worked...she owes a bit of thanks to Rob for that too...
'Another level of special' is really an excellent and apt observation.
I agree that we all should be thankful for her casting, most especially of Rob and Kristen. As for those of you who do not appreciate her, or are simply not fans, keep in mind that if she were not cast, he might not have been interested much, and, considering his interest/admiration/infatuation with her, the chemistry would not have been generated enough for him to land the role.
She did go out of her way to make sure the lighting enhanced Rob/Edward as much as possible in certain scenes, because she understood the phenomenon of the books and how a lot of readers felt about the character. If the audience didn’t see what Bella saw in him, or Catherine or Kristen – lol - then it wasn’t going to work. Somehow I don’t think Chris or David have had quite the same response to Rob/Edward and so not quite the same care...;)
I agree with your comments that she saw and created magic for R&K in Twilight. Also she laid the foundation & groundwork for the saga with an indie budget.
I wish her success in her future films but wonder if she can create another magic like R&K. I don't think so ........ or she might be one hell of a director creating magic on the screen !!!!!!! LOL
Wish Summit would give her better recognition/acknowledgment for what's she done for "Twilight"...
Yeahh AP i know what you mean; i think the others directors doesn't explore what Bella see in Edward...Sometimes i wish they put more magical and love to this stories...Like Twilight
I like CH... she's off the wall, just like I like ppl. If MR had the same passion as Catherine... the script would be better that some of crap... (pardon me) lines we got.
I am so thankful to Catherine Hardwicke - she brought me Twilight and she really knew how to "see" Edward/Rob through a woman's eyes. She immortalised Rob's beauty forever in that film. She's incredibly artistic and her head was always busy with little details about the film – details that were spot on. It was a dream role for Rob and thank goodness she directed it - I don't think anyone could have done it better. I've said many times on here - the Twilight Extras disk was PACKED solid because of her and her effort and interest in all of the important details. YouTube is a testament to Twilight and the Extras disk - all those fan-made videos are of CH's work.
After seeing Twilight, a huge number of women - some who have NEVER been spellbound about any actor in their lives - suddenly saw Rob and woke up and thought: this represents what I've always wanted but I didn't know it before. He's the one. That's the effect Rob had on me - I was absolutely SPELLBOUND - I even remember the date when I first saw him. I'm surprised about the effect it's had on me. That's why the film connected with women of all ages - it takes a visionary director to be able to produce that effect in women.
It's a shame that CH's personality irritates people - I've seen so many nasty comments about her on You Tube – people forget she brought us Rob!
She added some lovely touches too like the Twilight Director's Notebook, which was also a work of art. I've never read it from cover to cover - I just dip in it from time to time - it's fascinating so see how she visualised the film beforehand and all the captions and sketches and details right down to the picture of her battered copy of Twilight with all her coloured post it notes sticking out of it – she can even turn a photo of a dog-eared book into an art form.
Twilight isn't without its imperfections, but it's one of my favourite films and CH doesn't get enough credit for it.
Very nice comment for the lady Director who gave us Twilight. I haven't read the book but saw the film first (DVD) and fell in love with Rob's portrayal of Edward, hence researched/goggled Rob and fell in love more cuz of his sense of humour and everything else. I know he's not perfect but whoa ~ I think there are only a few young men whom I would treat with respect in the showbiz world.
For me, Rob epitomizes the good in Hollywood at the moment. Hope he can keep and cope to balance things in his professional and personal life. Don't want him to feel embittered with the industry in the future because he loves to act and loves his fans.
Twilight has its imperfection but who cares. I haven't got tired seeing the film over and over again. I belive this film will stand the test of time .!!!!!! and Rob is in it.
@Marna, she didn't screw it up, there was a personal connection I read. A glaring mistake, of all the stunning, beautiful, blonde actresses in Hollywood, and only a few lines required, WTF? She gave her the job because of the connection.
I don't know how many times I have replayed Twilight. Only played NM 4 times, showing others... I still watch Twilight, Scene selections. Biology lab, Port Angeles, restaurant, school/forest/meadow scene. Katherine really messed up the meadow scene. Or maybe Melissa did? THE BEDROOM KISS SCENE!!!! Best kiss ever in a movie.
Loved Chris and David's meadow scenes a helluva lot better. Twilight kiss scene is still the best ever. Sexiest kiss and his groan. DOUBLE WOW!!!! Rob you can groan at me anytime. smirk
@sabella, definitely yes. I have seen many movies and this kiss scene is the BEST EVER I've seen. My favorite movie before Rob was "An Affair to Remember", Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.
I think Twilight beat that one for romantic drama. sigh
(I still cry at the end of "Affair") even though I know what's coming, foolish of me.
Looking forward to RM DVd coming next month. Will buy it immediately.
Sure it is....I understend you very well....because, of course...Rm M is one of my favorites, and can't wait the DVD...and also need to see Rob in Bel ami, but that kisses maybe differents, he was't so much in love with that ladys, ...but I will prefer (sure) that kiss of Jacob Jankowsky and Marlena......wow....
What a present gives Catherine to all of us....I will be Thankful to her...all my life.
oh Nancy, I wanted to ask you about the time.... very early, how you do it? superwoman? sure !!!! I am in Seville, Spain...and love Robsessed, since a long time...I laugh a lot, so funny, so clever ladys...I really enjoy it.....so thanks, I am so glad to talk with you, because I use to read it and agree every time,
Rob became so important for me, cant imagine my life without him, and fantastic places like this !!! here is about 12H in morning...the first i do every day...is came to here !!!! and search for him...jajaj
I could have written the first part of your post, because I watch those scenes so many times and NM only about 4 times just like you! CW missed so many opportunities to pad out the NM Extras.
Tedgirl - yes I saw the film on TV and fell in love with him over a weekend. Unfortunately I missed out on an entire year of Rob but I've made up for it now.
@totallyRobbed, thanks, glad to have a comrad that feels the same way.
@sabella, I was up all night and slept til 10 am, then went to work at noon.
Rob is so cute, I just can't stop obessessing about him. (And I have never done that with an actor til now!) (Also, he caught my attention as Cedric Diggory too) Ok a Harry Potter fan also.
Rob is a man, a boy, so gorgeous, so handsome, so awwwwwwwwww, he melts me and makes my girlie parts tingle all the time. (Even my hubbie never did that!) And he (hubbie) has dimples like Kellens. His dimples got me and he is also the same exact height as Rob. So its easy to imagine.... if you know what I mean.
I have to admit, my hubbie was my man-boy too. NO wonder I love Rob so much.
Nancy !! u naughty girl!! lol xx but agree 100%!! Catherine gave us Rob , thank the Lord!!! xxxxxxxxxxx * thud* if they had let her make BD it would be X rated , she would hav let her imagination run riot! Thanks girl!

she is the first woman that was diggin on Rob lol! can ya blame her?? He leaves a trail of panting females whereva he goes hehe!

She was the first cougar to fall for the pretty. She showed us the way. She owns my eternal respects awe and admiration.

AP--did you get my message from an earlier thread (that I viewed and enjoyed a blast from the past last night: Pirate Radio)? :-D
What I don't understand is how she could be so spot on with casting Rob, but totally screw up by casting Nikki. Makes no sense.
Interesting video - her new film sounds good.

all the best for her!!!
@totallyrobbed - ITA with you - well said,
Thank you 1000x for casting Twilight like you did Katherine. You did a fantastic job.
I knew as soon as I heard that he'd be great. (I'm refering to his role as Cedric) Didn't know Kristen at all.
I also love Kellen, Ashley, Peter, Billy, Taylor, again what a fantastic casting job.
Thanks and
FILTM
ok, now I have to check out her new movie. She's great at casting and I'm very curious.
Love you Katherine.
@Cindygal: totally agree...Twilight remains my favorite and literally revered CH's directing prowess! :)
@M: "flaky-aunt-at-Thanksgiving" cracked me up...fits CH's personality...in a good way...thanks for the smile!
