Robert Pattinson's Remember Me - Worldwide Box Office numbers

Photobucket

Robert Pattinson’s Remember Me grossed only $483K at 906 theaters in North America this Easter Weekend. Average per screen: a very low $533. After losing more than 1,000 venues, the romantic drama lost 75% of its revenues from a week ago; that’s a very sharp drop. Total to date: $18.2 million.

About ten days ago or so, it seemed that Remember Me might be able to reach $20-22 million at the US/Canada box office. Now I find it unlikely that Pattinson’s film will even get to $20 million before it ends its run, as it’ll probably be shedding hundreds more theaters next weekend. It may cume at $19 million. We’ll see.

At least Remember Me is doing better overseas, undoubtedly because of Robert Pattinson’s box-office appeal. It’s no major blockbuster, mind you, but foreign box-office revenues have already nearly surpassed those in North America.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this weekend Remember Me grossed $4.7 million — nearly ten times what it did in the US/Canada — at 2,485 screens in 33 markets. The per-screen average isn’t great: only $1,891, but that’s a mix of both new and old territories — e.g., Remember Me opened in the UK this weekend; but it has been out in Brazil, Sweden, and Australia and other countries for about three weeks.

Overseas total to date: $17.2 million. A week ago, the international box-office total hovered around $10.5 million. Worldwide total to date: $35.4 million.

Remember Me has yet to open in several major and mid-size markets including China, Japan, France, Denmark, Turkey, South Korea, and Argentina.

Directed by Allen Coulter from a screenplay by first-timer Will Fetters, Remember Me stars Robert Pattinson as a young rebel at odds with his wealthy father (Pierce Brosnan). Emilie de Ravin plays Pattinson’s romantic interest. Also in the cast: Chris Cooper, Lena Olin, Ruby Jerins, and Tate Ellington.

These are awesome numbers for a small movie...and once the DVD comes out, and it opens in the other countries, much bigger numbers as well...

I really think that the US movie critics were terribly unfair and made a huge negative impact on this movie.

It makes me sad because it was a very good movie, not perfect, but very, very good.

$35.4 million world wide? That has got to be good for an indie movie. Rob has proved himself able. And I agree with RPG, when it opens in other countries and the DVD comes out the numbers will go up. I loved this film.

On the one hand, I'm hugely disappointed in the sharp domestic drop, partly because I'd hoped word-of-mouth would work better.
Janece, I agree, the negative impact of the asinine US critics was bigger than I thought.

On the other hand, the international figures seem great, don't they? We still don't know about the U.K. opening weekend figures, do we?

But Kat, where do these figures come from? Box Office Mojo reported today only $23.6M worldwide. From that to $35.4 is a big jump.

We are all so invested in this film and want it to do well by some measure, if not critically than monetarily, even though we know its intangible accomplishments are huge and fierce.

I think the person who wrote the synopis about this movie is partially to blame. I know it is hard to sum up this movie in a couple of sentences, but they could have done better, I think. I agree the critics were terribly unfair, but I believe they would have slamed any movie that Rob would have made. I hate critics anyway. I missed many good movies because I used to pay attention to what they said. Not any more!

It is a shame that ‘Remember Me’ did not do better in North America, it is good movie, and deserved better than this. I blame the critics and the marketing department for this. The promotion of this movie sucked IMO, instead of promoting the movie as a family drama, Summit pushed it as merely a romantic drama. It was so much more than that.

While the movie did not make the big bang that as fans we had hoped, it hasn’t turned out to be the flop that some people have been calling it. The $35.4 million with several markets still pending is a very good sign. Over $35 million world wide for a movie that cost $16 million to make, isn’t bad at all. Hopefully when it finishes its run in North American (which appears it is going to happen sooner rather than latter) and the foreign box office it will surpass $40 million.

Jessegirl, mojo box office worldwide figures is not current, the foreign total only goes up to March 21, 2010. I read about the more current total from this site: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3ib6c66237fa7a658d10b4ad5c1f8d742b

Here is the section about Remember ME: “Summit International's "Remember Me," a romantic melodrama starring Robert Pattinson, drew $4.7 million on the weekend from 2,485 screens in 33 territories for an overseas total of $17.2 million.”

Those are great numbers...twice what it cost to make, ppl writing these articles judge it by twi standards which is totallt ridiculous!

I think these numbers are brilliant considering the scope and budget of this film.

Viva Remember Me!

So Proud.

Did you pre-order your copy of Remember Me, on sale June 22?

I hate how they act like the numbers are bad, it has doubled what it cost to make, and hasn't even opened everywhere yet. Plus, the movie Ghost writer is makeing nothing and Summit spent $45 million making it (same amount that was spent on New Moon), they spent something like $16 million on Remember Me, and by the time it comes out on video it will easily have made $30 million, that is huge for an indie drama. I hate that they keep running it down.
I tried to see it again this weekend and it was only in a couple of theatres (in my very large midwestern city) at bad times for me. I am not very happy!

Also, the teenagers stayed away from this movie due to the fact that it wasn't Edward Cullen. I loved this movie, have seen it five times, one of the best movies as far as I am concserned for 2010.

The U.S. market is segmented diversely. There's a movie for everyone's preference. The reasons why "RM" didn't do very well here can be a puzzle. Does it have to do with the stormy days when it opened here? The East Coast was under a Storm watch for 3 days when it opened on March 12. I know it's a good excuse but other movies fared well despite the storm. I loved the movie and have watched it 3 times already.

Don't forget to vote for Remember Me at the MTV Music Awards site:

http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2010/categories.jhtml

For Best Movie, you have to find Remember Me in the list of movies and select it. Unfortunately it's not one of the highlighted nominees.

Rob is also in the Best Kiss, Global Superstar and Best Actor categories (I think those were it). Emily is in the Female Breakout Perfomance category.
And, you can vote over, and over.

If Remember Me gets ANY recognition at the award show, that could mean more DVD sales at least...

I am very happy with the box office of Remember Me, especially in my country: Brazil. The distributor here did not make a great marketing campaign for the film and I keep thinking what would happen with a better marketing. Rob has been proving he attracts people to the movies all over the world even with a drama like Remember Me which has no popular appeal, he proved he is a smart guy (has a good taste in choosing screenplays, attracts great actors, a good director to the project...) People love Robert Pattinson and he has been responsible for making people rediscover what is a great film, good literature, good music.
Let us see the titles of the other films that are in better positions than RM and you will understand the reason of their box office success (Clash of the Titans; Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too?; How to Train Your Dragon ;The Last Song ;Alice in Wonderland ; Hot Tub Time Machine; The Bounty Hunter; Diary of a Wimpy Kid ;She's Out of My League ;Shutter Island ;Green Zone ;The Ghost Writer ;Avatar ;Greenberg ;Our Family Wedding ;Chloe ;Repo Men ;The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) , many of them are comedies; films full of special effects and that is it: many people go to movies to relax, to have fun and not to reflect. They cry, sometimes yes , but only if they know there will be a happy ending. They prefer to stay away from films that make them think and make them sad.
Remember Me was born like a cult movie. Critics are human beings and human beings are, sometimes, hypocrites. In the near future ( oh time runs fast ) the critics will adore Remember Me and they will adore Robert Pattinson, for sure!!!

I love Remember Me and I am very proud of being Robert Pattinson`s fan

I think the Twilight fans have moved on to Jacob as their guy-guess they haven't read the books??? Summit' marketing paid off for pushing Jacob. I also think that young Twilight fans have no desire to see Rob as other than Edward and do not want to see him kissing anyone other than Kristen.I know that two teen members of my family have switched allegiance to Jacob. They are 12 and 17 so he is more their age. Rob's Edward looked like an old man in New Moon. Yummy, to me but probably intimidating to teens?
I also believe that teens do not want to see a movie that has a sad ending and doesn't have pyrotechnics! One had to think to watch Remember Me and I think that's why some of us loved it. It engaged us in a life like drama!

@LTavares2010-you said it so much better than me. Love Rob-Love Tyler. Love to think!

@Rob's Bitch

You can be sure that I'm voting for Remember Me, Robert and Emilie , all the time, from beginning to end, many, many times. There being no cheating, Remember Me and Rob will be there at the MTV movie awards.

Girls, it is to time to fight. I respect Twilight Saga, I adore Rob as Edward Cullen but we have to fight to change people`s mind: Robert Pattinson is not Edward Cullen. He is Robert Pattinson: a great artist. Twilight Saga is finishing. Many Twilight fans need to understand that. Robert Pattinson is here to stay. He has a great career ahead of him and he needs us, now.

You're so right - love your comment! :)) And RM did really very well in Brazil.

LTavares2011 said...

@Kathy S

Not only are adolescents who do not want Rob kissing another actress and not just teenagers who do not like movies with sad endings. This is the problem. Thanks for the comment.

LTavares2011 said...

@WhyIstheRumAlwaysGone

Thank you but I am still dissatisfied, I have sent several emails to Paris Films (RM distributor in Brazil). The film could have a better box office here. Missed better marketing to attract people who are not Robert`s fans.

This is great news! Remember Me is a wonderful film. It is beautifully acted and well written. Being an American, it saddens me that the critics paned it for its ending. I think once word got out about it a lot of people made the decision not to see it. Although it has been nearly ten years since, the wound is still very deep and hard to take for most. Maybe in a few years the film will get the recognition it deserves.

Remember Me is a wonderful film - though it is obvious, for whatever reason, that the Twilight based fans didn't support it - I suppose some fans are too young to appreciate Rob's talent as an actor and are more interested in his portrayal of their fantasy of Edward - but that's fine, because as they move on to the next fictional character, Rob will hopefully feel satisfied with his work as an actor.

summit cut the screen from 1,900 to 900 screen this week in the us (thats a huge decrease), so you can still see it and spread the word to your friends and family in the US....

The number are great for a movie that is no cgi, no 3d, no rom com, no disney.......RM were sold to all those countries base on Robert name.....thats show how big is Rob Power....film like Keira Pride and Prejudice was not even shown here because the distributor didn;t think it will sell in my country....

Remember Me (15)

Positive Review from "Empire Magazine"

With a few months free from mooning about in Goth facepaint as perpetually agonised teen-vamp Edward Cullen, Robert Pattinson undoubtedly had half an eye on proving himself in a more serious vein. Using the modicum of clout he now wields, he steps up as executive producer on this twitchy New York indie-drama, effectively getting it in front of the cameras and into a distribution deal.
Which is good news, for whatever your opinion might be of The Twilight Saga saga, there is much to be impressed with here. Not least the cast he and his director, Hollywoodland’s Allen Coulter, have mustered: Pierce Brosnan, all preening and silk ties, well-matched as Pattinson’s lawyer father; plus Chris Cooper, Lena Olin and Emilie de Ravin (recently found again on Lost). There’s no missing it’s Pattinson’s show, still tortured but granted leave to smile and smoke, ruffle his luscious locks, even — gulp — get it on, but it centres on an across-the-tracks romance between his misunderstood posh boy and de Ravin’s sweet-natured but edgy college mate from working-’burb Queens.
They’ve actually got a lot in common. Each has serious daddy issues: he thinks his big-shot father doesn’t give a damn, so does his utmost to rattle his cage — offering cross-generational dreamboats Pattinson and Brosnan some raw confrontations; she’s burdened by an over-protective pop — the always-classy Cooper as a rough-hewn city cop messing with his daughter’s head. Both also have wreckage in their pasts: Tyler the weight of his brother’s suicide; Ally, the murder of her mother. Grief is loose in the movie, and as Will Fetters’ interesting script finally (and shockingly) reveals its hand, it proves to be the main theme. Put it this way: the title takes on tougher resonances on the way out.
The film has its secrets, but rather than make a guessing game of the preceding drama (a marked dilemma with Scorsese’s narcotic Shutter Island), Coulter maintains a decent family melodrama — clichéd, yes, but played with conviction. Will father and son find a way to connect? Will the young couple make it work? Will the ghosts of the past leave them the hell alone? With his New York handsome and sun-dappled, this is Coulter’s loving tour of both the seedier branches and wealthy lanes of the Big Apple: a city, itself, rooted in sadness.

Verdict
So the boy can act — this is the best thing he’s done.

Excellent review... and "Yes" Robert can act? Why is that a surprise? I like what this reviewer see in the film and that's what I take from the film too... Tragedy happens, life goes on... when it happen, pick yourself up, remember the ones you've lost go on and live to the best of your ability and never forget. Why are some critics so close minded.

@Tina tri, thank you for post that and from a reputable magazine too. :)
