ohh its really good robs' difference
Glad to see this doing so well! I took a friend on opening night and another friend yesterday and they were both significantly moved by it - me and friend #2 were completely wrecked! She's not even really a fan of his but she said it was 'an absolutely beautiful film'. I agree. So glad I kicked those tweens out!
Can you see the *MFing HUGE* grin that is splitting my face??? Those are really good numbers! Way past covering the budget! Awesome! :D
I wanted to go see Remember Me again today, but apparently it's already out at the cinema in George Street :(.
@ Athena bad times :( You'll get by, the DVD's out in two months! Very close to my b-day as well!
Just realised I sounded a little vicious in above comment - I kicked them out 'cause they were being rude and horrible, not just 'cause they were tweens lol!
It's out in France on wednesday... Finally...
Adored the film - watched it on Friday and it's still haunting me. Was thinking of going again this afternoon but not sure I can face the heartbreak again so soon ....
Wonderful job Rob, I am very proud of you.
Well done! And I'm going to see RM one more (at least!) time next week because I just can't stop thinking about it when listening to RM the score <3
Is it only me or the score is really touching and deep and makes me feel a bit nervous and worried?
@Magda
I agree with you, the score is extraordinarily beautiful and echoes all the feelings/scenes of the film in an almost eerie way! I can't get it out of my head either.
I've seen RM last sunday after Blindside. And I think it's really a good one. I'm glad that the film is doing so well international and I hope Rob, Ruby and Pierce will earn a lot of awards for that performances.
...those are good numbers and this movie is not even opened in some countries. I hope it makes $35m in the box office! i also cant wait for the dvd to come out...
@magda
Pozdrowienia!!!
Ohhhh RM score simply unforgettable.
I have on my ipod and became addicted.
and there's still lot of places where it isn't showed yet... in my country opens on April 22th.
Anyone know how these numbers are for an indy film?
I am glad the movie is doing good overseas... I love the movie and as a fan I love him... but after you get into it, you forget that you are watching Robert play a character... he just draws you in and you are seeing Tyler... Not Robert or Edward or any of his other characters... He becomes Tyler. I can see why he love the script... it's different from anything out there right now.
It's a same Critics are blinded by their narrow mindedness.
WOW!!! Very good numbers for Remember Me and there are so many places where the film is not passing yet. For a film that is not a no brain comedy with nerds and beautiful girls, a 3D, CGI, with coreographed fighting scenes, special effects, oh it is a huge success!!
Remember Me is a kind of movie which was very common in the 70`s but now the big audience want another kind of films( they want to have fun, no drama ). For me it is very clear that Rob is attracting people to discover a beautiful film, with a story with more substance that invites people to reflect. It is very important because RM is not a blockbuster, it is a film to stay forever in our minds.
I love RM and most of all I love Rob!!!
Solas: here are some numbers to compare with.

box_office_chart_march_30_2010/
Look at critically well received movies like The Last Station, A SIngle Man, Young Victoria... An Education for instance has grossed $12M
Remember Me isn't listed. Technically an independent film, it had a marketing budget much bigger than a regular art-house flic. And while Summit isn't a major studio it has become a "major" indy player.
For an indy film RM is doing really well. I'm glad that Rob is choosing films he wants to do and not what the film industry wants him to do. That's to say the crowd pleasing blockbuster.
WTF do critics know anyway? Afterall it's just their opinion. Never taken them seriously in my life. Many a time they say a film is good and I've wanted to walk out halfway through!! The fans reaction is worth more I think
Remember Me didn't hit the UK cinema till Friday, I saw it last night. I thought it was a very emotional film, superbly acted by Robert and all the cast.
Proud of Robert so much.
FILTM
@Loisada: Have a '
musical' bit for you if you are ok with a 'spoiler' from possible WFE scene? Won't pass on, if not.
@Solas: I think the only reason there is a box office 'issue' for RM is that it opened so wide. Most indies, like Victoria, An Education, don't go above 1,000 or so cinemas. There was more 'expectation' for RM because of the number of locations. On it's own terms, as a relatively low budget drama without a lot of critical kudos, it's doing very well. The Russia/CIS number is surprisingly high...
I am so happy!!!!
Good Job Rob!!
And we are still waiting the figures of UK and other major countries like Japan!!
Thanks Lois and AP. I find this all interesting, and yes, Dessert, I am so glad that Rob is doing what he chooses to do.
AP--I do find the Russia/CIS numbers intriguing. I would like to understand the demographics and other factors contributing to those numbers.
Havng not been on line for several days here and there, I have commented on threads that are getting buried already. Don't want anyone to think I don't have views on some topics! ;-)
Looking to get a meaningful DVD for someone on the verge of being able to think seriously, I was searching for one of my most favourite forever films, The Fixer (the one with the late great Alan Bates, may he rest in peace)), and found this interesting statement as a comment on the film and its director (grossly underappreciated Frankenheimer)to which I could relate so much, especially with the recent Remember Me experience:
"So few American films can be brave enough to actually talk about ideas without having to always resort to action to appease those out there with short attention spans."
I see it as pathetically true, but would love to explore the condition, its causes, and possible cures.
that is great news for the film...i am glad it is getting great views from the critics and fans outside the US. I cant wait for it to come out on dvd in June (hopefully with extras)
@Solas: I don't know, aside from Summit, where you'd find the best analysis for Russian audience demographics & RM. Just fyi - in the US the MPAA releases theatrical statistics every year with breakdowns - usually found online.
I like Alan Bates too. I've read the novel...
I've found out a few figures about RM in Russia. Well, Russia really rocks. RM grossed $1,824,579 in Russia on its 1st week (or maybe week-end, I don't know about that) - with only 290 screens! And it has now grossed about $3,159,642 on 590 screens.
Rum--I am wondering about the appeal there-- is it a Rob draw (were they huge twilight fans as well)? If so, was it a mostly teen girl audience; if so, was it for Rob or for loving the Edward character? Is it the miscategorization(were they looking for a romance film, and if so, were they disappointed)? Are they interested more in serious discussion of serious topics, perhaps wanting to see an individual life and family affected by that time and event? etc/ And how do the answers to these questions relate to Russian society?
(My mind is always full of questions!)
@solas - so many interesting questions, but I must say I have no idea! I think I read somewhere that the Russians are huge Twilight fans and that they love Rob generally. It's not much help, I know. But really, given the small number of screens (we just have to compare it to the US enormous number of screens!), RM has done quite well there. Maybe some Russian fan reading this thread could give us an explanation, but sofar, apart from the BO numbers, I have no other information. I'm waiting for the UK and Spain numbers now... I'm turning into a real box office geek and it's all Rob's fault! :))
Rum, I've never paid attention to box office or anytng like that before. Most of the time, what is a blockbuster financially is not my kind of movie; what is considered great by critics is usually not by myself.
This film is just so excellent--the movie, the story-- I am anxious to see how it does in different places and why; it seems to be, for what was supposed to be a little film, noticed and appreciated by audiences if not by some critics. The little that movie that could.
"In fact, this latest Robert Pattinson vehicle is already close to covering its production costs at the global box-office even though it’s just now opening in major markets such as the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Spain."
Sigh. OK, fine. I'll collect some more people and I'll go for a third time.
AP_-see if you can get the dvd and tell me what you think. You know far more about films and directing thatn I; I would love to hear an informed take on it.
@Solas: RM (3.1)has grossed close to Twilight (3.5) figures in Russia. New Moon made a lot more, but it's still interesting...
Not that I secretly don't want to see it everyday.. ;)
@Solas: has it been released on dvd yet? I looked for it when I read the book but it was only on VHS then.
@Rum: getting into stats? lol
@Kelly: it has covered costs already, even with half receipts, because of presales. However, don't want to dissuade you from going again... :)
AP- I recently bought it in DVD form for myself, from an online mailorder place that I found by googling, having had it on VHS for a long time but wanting DVD form for the DVD player that doesn't take vhs.
Solas - ah, good to know. I'll get a copy and try and watch it - soon as I can but don't know when that might be. Frankenheimer was a sort of 'hit & miss' director for me - when he was good, he was...;)
@solas & @AP
yes getting deep into the mysteries of the BO numbers and stats - and lol I hate maths... It took me ages to figure out how it works... but I did that only out of curiosity for Remember Me, because it annoyed me to see the haters saying RM was doing so bad, and I wanted to know for myself if their assessments were true or not - i.e, numbers don't lie, but the way you present them can be a lie. Am I wrong? :))Otherwise I'm not much very interested in all that, and I'll stop checking when RM goes out of theaters. As I said, it's all Rob's fault!! :))
@Rum: 'Blame it on the Rob..' - lol. Reporting numbers always seems to depend on the expectations, but you are right...they are what they are. THR Intl. says RM bo cume now $17.4, dom estimated around $18.2 so has $35.6 wwide. Could head north of $40, although the domestic won't grow too much because of fewer theatres. RM is not doing so badly at all.:) Gotta run...
@AP Wow... so that's quite good isn't it? I'm so happy for RM. Thank you for the explanations and the new figures! And... - "blame it on the Rob" - Loooove it, lol.
AP-- when I first saw this film, it was already 'old' (and no such thng as vcrs then!) , but the book was required reading in highschool and one of the 'avante garde' cinemas that usually played old Fellini and such, was showing this, and so, with friends, I went one evening. It had a tremendous impact on the lot of us, far more than the book; this is one of the movies where I loved the film better than the book. I have always wondered if it had the impact on us that it did because of it was of our particular culture, something to which we could relate that perhaps the rest of the audience could not. This was one of the few films where, like Remember Me, my friends and I sat silent and numb, blown away by some very powerful scenes, especially knowing it was a true story and true for so many of our people but usually with a more terrible ending, and, as in Remember Me, it stimulated after the silence a lot of conversation, meaningful dalogue and inner search and new commmitments. We were only 15 at the time, but it was really something, something rare. Remember me reminds me of this experience deeply in this way.
Ok--enough for me, sundown approaches and I will be offline until Tuesday night. you know the drill--email me if you will. ;-)
Good holy days and holy ways to all who observe.
According to Box Office Mojo, today (Sunday), Remember Me is still swimming with the sharks ( Clash of the Titans, Alice...), it is 19th position.
LTavares...
I loved what you said!
"Rob is attracting people to discover a beautiful film, with a story with more substance that invites people to reflect...RM...
is a film to stay forever in our minds."
-invites people to reflect-
-to stay forever in our minds-
YES.
It has accomplished that, which, when it comes down to it, is more important than Mr. Oscar, Mr. Critic or Mr. Boxoffice.
Rum, Solas, AP...
I, too, am looking at box office when I never cared before. Not for posterity's sake, but so Rob et al can feel the love, so to speak.
-'the little movie that could'- good one.
Magda, Rum, papagaj...
I've written about Marcelo Zarvos' score before. It is amazing! I found that the first time I wasn't aware of it yet it worked on me the way a score should, with subtlety, underpinning the story.
On repeated viewings, I became more aware of it, esp. the morning montage from where Tyler tells Ally he loves her and then the next piece, 'I know you can hear me', which ends the movie and is so haunting that it leaves you stunned. That is a piece that I need on a daily basis.
AP...
Wow! RM grossed close to Twilight in Russia! That is significant. And, Solas, I too am wondering what the psychology behind that is.
Solas...Happy holiday.
I loved 'The Fixer' too, and Alan Bates. Another heartbreaker.
@Rum: sounds like UK fans have been very supportive too - don't know if as much as Russian fans yet... :)
@jessegirl: there seem to be many more gettin into the world of box office returns and markets...what fans will do for Rob - or, rather, what won't they do? ;) Next it will be the details of presales, distribution patterns, ancillary markets and rental agreements - well, maybe not. lol Right now I just want to know who is picking up Bel Ami for distribution in the US....
Zarvos' score is great - his scores for "Sin Nombre" and "Taking Chance" are worth a listen too, although "Nombre" was a film that was really hard to watch - brutal scenes - but honest.
