Twilight unfinished
Exclusive
Twilight Eclipse opens in June. But the film isn’t ready yet.
Multiple sources have confirmed to me that some key scenes need to be reshot including footage between “Bella” and “Edward” in the meadow and a few fight sequences. They’ve been waiting for weeks to confirm dates but have had to work around Robert Pattinson’s schedule. Originally they needed 7 days but now, due to his other commitments, it’s been proposed that they work for 3 days with the crew putting in 18 hours each day. This should happen in Vancouver in the next few weeks.
What’s more interesting is WHO would actually direct the reshoot. David Slade is the director for Eclipse. But I’m told that apparently David Slade’s relationship with Summit has been... not great. Creative differences. At one point things had supposedly deteriorated to the point that they were actually considering hiring someone else to reshoot in Vancouver. Some of the names tossed around? Chris Weitz and Catherine Hardwicke. Hardwicke is in Vancouver working on another new film to go in the summer. They’re looking at delaying that project and Hardwicke has been spotted undercover checking out studio and location space for the Eclipse reshoot.
Having said that, Slade and Summit are now communicating on better terms. And there is still a good possibility he could come back to Vancouver to complete his film. As of Monday, no final decision about a director had been made. Will keep you posted.
Gozde: A reshoot, isn't necessarily something to be concerned about. It's normal and I'm glad they'll reshoot instead of going ahead with something that is not "good enough" :) I bet it's the EVIL WIG that needs to be re-shot ;) (Oh and if they bring back Hardwicke, I'll shoot myself.)

Wonder which scene, probably a bad-looking-wig-scene!? LOL
This could be a serious delay. This means more expenses for the studio.
@ CB. oopps. I was thinking the same thing. You go girl.
Whatever it takes to get it right. In Twilight they had to reshoot the bedroom scene/kiss several months later, and I am sooo glad they did.
Girls girls girls...I've missed you!
Hope they won't mess everything up...
Re-shoot to make it better, please!
With the poor showing of her "Runaways" they are learning a lesson.
First?
Yeehaa!
Ok, I just wonder - does this re-shooting thing have something in common with the "leaked" script?
Or did Summit drop/leak it on purpose, just to see/hear some reactions from the fans?
Did the fans want more Edward/Edward&Bella love story instead of the dog?
Anyone? I´m sooo not a Hollywood-insider... Nik, any ideas?
I am glad Slade is on better terms...I wouldn't want Kathrine Hardwick to take over, even if it is for a couple of scenes. She was awful.
I just think it's strange 'cause with Twilight they had no money and little time, kinda of a mess ( and yet Catherine managed to get THAT movie! :])...
But with Eclipse...it's more organized...
Well, now it's just wait and see...
I love Catherine, I think she did the best she could... after reading the Director's book thing...
I want to believe that this re-shoot had something to do with fans reactions, but doubt that! =/
*Still don't know if I believe this*
If a re-shoot adds more Edward and more Edward & Bella, then I'm all for it.
Re-shoots are not uncommon. To put this in perspective, David Slade tweeted last week he had a rough cut of the new trailer.
WTF? Poor Rob! He can't catch a break before filming WFE! Poor guy needs some time off.
Nothing unusual here. Many times when they're in edit, they realize they've got to go back and fix or add something. Although with just 2and 1/2 months until it's released, they are cutting it a little close. What am I saying? More than a few films have arrived 'wet' at the theaters on opening day.
And don't worry about that opening day. It's the Fourth of July weekend and only 'the big one' hitting LA could screw this up.
Maybe it was technical issues...I remember DS tweeting that day that R+K did a really great job so its not them...or maybe script issues like a line didn't fit or make sense or something like that...happens all the time I guess!
I am in no way insulting Katherine Hardwick. Sorry if it came across that way...I just meant that when you compare Twilight to New Moon, it just sort of came off looking a bit like a school project film. I hate to see Hardwick jumping in for a couple of scenes and changing the feel in a few spots from the way all the other scenes might feel....you know?
Actually I think Catherine did a better job than Chris Weitz capturing the Bella/Edward romance but that's just my opinion.
Yeah, poor Rob! Our cute workaholic just won't rest!
Praying he won't collapse! There aren't enough coffees and cokes in the world!
Poor Rob. More work for him. But certainly good for us. Maybe we will see really good kiss scenes of Edward and Bella.;)
Should we believe that. Lainey has unfortunately often right.
I liked Hardwicke. She 'gets' love scenes and emotions. I hope she is back.
Don't worry,Sarah... I know what you mean..
It's just that even with all the flaws, Twilight feels kinda perfect to me! Just love that movie... LOL
Who wants to count the number of airplane tickets to Vancouver being bought right now.. LOL
Without Catherine H. there would have been no ROB(sessed). Why not let her give her hand? I didn't like NM ( said that many times before) Maybe, if CH will come back, I will give "Eclipse" a try.
CH knew how to capture the chemistry between Edward and Bella. She believed in the romance. She knew how to film Robert and make him look his most pretty. Edward is all I cared about in those books and Catherine got it. For example: CW's CG wolves were amazing but I just don't really care. I also like that it wasn't perfect in special effects etc. I think that made it seem younger and more cool.
About CH...
It had to be a girl to understand how to love boys! LOL
It's nice to see a female director get her chance to do well, even under independent movies budgets! LOL
Hope that this re-shoot thing make it to the DVD extras,it'd be nice...
I have to say Twilight was far superior to the emotions and intimacy between Edward and Bella than New Moon. I was so disappointed in New Moon due to the chemistry missing in the film. If David sticks to the action he will be fine, but if it needs finesse in the emotions of our leads in this film, I would not mind at all if Catherine did the reshoots.
LMAO at the wig reshoot!
I don't think this is a big deal & won't delay the movie...
Intresting but its prob nothing to freak out about really.
BUT !
Poor Rob.
I missed the scenes when Bella cries like a crazy person in the air plain in New Moon...but I guess it would make the movie too long...:(
@ rpattzgirl, I don't think it would delay either!
3 days, thats nothing...
Rob will have to work hard for 3 days! Oo
Hopefully they are listening to the fans and want reshoots to show more of the love story.
@Amelie - The Runaways is an Apparition production - not Summit
do you just enjoy hate so much you have to bring it in to every thread?
i know it's not a big deal to re-shoot some scenes but isn't it a big deal that they are looking for another director to re-shoot these... also they are cutting it kind of close in my opinion but what do i know....
rpg - you should find out when and go up there to try and see him...but this time go by yourself you might have better luck :)
@ana73 - I think the director thing is the biggest worry about the reshoots, unless it's simply related to slade not having enough time, slade and summit have been having issues since editing began.
Ana73,
LOL, nah...if it's indoor scenes wouldn't see him, and if it's fighting scenes they're out in the middle of the woods...I'll just wait for LA & Robstock!!!!
rpg - yeah about LA, my husband hasn't decided if he is going for sure to his reunion so it's up in the air but i will let you know :)
janna - ITA
are they doing it for they think that some scenes arent good enough or adding new scenes
Seriously. This is not unusual at all and it's only making a headline because it involves Robert Pattinson.
When an actor wraps a film, it don't mean he's done. Ever heard of looping?
As long as they are not changing one blessed thing in the story line regarding Edward and Bella to satisfy the Taylor fans. I am looking forward to the actual storyline from the book ending with a happy Edward and Bella together.
nik - i get what you are saying about re-shooting some scenes BUT that they might look for a different director to reshoot them...
this is pretty shocking to me. sorry but it is. seems really really late for this esp. with the summer date out there. why wasn't this problem seen in the dailies? sounds very fishy. esp. that Catherine H. is scouting? huh??????? never heard of something like this with another director doing the reshoots. uggh. do NOT f*** it up people!!!! jeez.
CH's movie is a far superior movie IMO. I've watched both more times than I could even count - maybe 40/50??? and Rob almost steals every scene. he's so great in that movie. I hated him NM. You can't even hear half the dialogue, he's like a zombie in it - and that's all direction. the sound tract is so hokey. listen to the tract where the dogs first fight. ughh. horrible. compare it to the score of Twilight with bella's lullaby woven through - just gorgeous. the cinematography is goregous too - remember the tree scene above the lake? whoa. beautiful shot. ok - so the fight scene was as great. who cares? I could watch twilight every day and never tire of it. NM - not so. Taylor's acting if horrid (sorry to say.) there's one scene in twilight that I really hate though - the police station scene after their first date. "whoa, my dad's still there..." i hate that one.
I would love CH to come back for the last two with a much bigger budget. she just got the emotional aspect of it. she had the energy. she acted like she really liked the books. maybe they just need a woman to direct!!
Oh this is very interesting news. So I'm thinking they're going to try to bring the focus back to Edward and E/B? So does that mean that they will be shooting some more Edward and E/B scenes?
And if so, I'm thinking they'll have to do it very soon, because if I'm not mistaken WFE start shooting in May 22 or something like that. So they only have a month to do the reshoots of all the scenes they want to fix, unless some of those scenes don't include Edward.
And only two months till the release date! That's what makes this news so interesting, that means that there is something really wrong with the movie, if they feel the need at this late stage to do some reshoots.
I hope that they will be able to salvage what they can of the Eclipse movie on such short notice and make it good. I really enjoyed the Twilight movie, and it was what introduced me to Robert and to Edward. I didn't like NM.
And I find it very interesting that CH might direct some of the scenes! BUT at the same time there is the potential that- no matter who directs those reshoots- the movie might have two different feels depending on what scene was directed by who. But hopefully not, since they already have the Twilight editor.
Anyways I just hope that this won't interfere with WFE shooting, because at the moment, this is the Robert movie that I am looking forward to the most!
I was trying to find the most logical and recent development for the the re-shooting,if ever, to be considered by Summit. And even if Summit is not the producer of TRA, It's well aware about the marketability of it's stars. And possibly found something/ somewhere that is not acceptable to them.
I'm not a Robsten, just Robsessed.
And I've said I will try to see "Eclipse" if CH will give a hand. For Rob's sake.
Oh no, please don't bring Catherine back!
http://www.gossipcop.com/twilight-eclipse-vancouver-reshoots/
Thanks Janna! As expected most of it was crap other than the other normal things that occur with movies.
I really hope they do bring Cathrine back.
LOL @ Gozde and the EVIL WIG!
I am Team Hardwicke. Hope she does the reshoots. If they hadn't been in such a hurry to do the quick follow-ups, I believe she would have stayed on board for all of them. I have nothing against guys, but as directors of this kind of special material they tend to...suck. She made them 300 million dollars and then they let her go. What the *#!*?
Cote de Texas.... I heart you! It's a very polarizing issue, but a poll the ladies took here showed that Robsessed fans are split about half/half btwn liking Twi or NM more. Both have strengths and both have faults. I personally agree: CH understood the soul of the story like nobody's business!
(And I'm still plugging Jane Campion for BD, though she'd never even consider doing it, and I don't blame her)
Well - as GCop makes it clear the 'other'director is spec - although Summit doth protest too much....lol CH was probably scouting for her own film RRHood.
@Loisada: Assuming you liked "Bright Star" then? I don't think BD would be her sort of milieu but she does like a challenge...I think the director may be a 'done deal' anyway.
"David Slade is 100% directing them, like he did the entire movie, and the studio is “very happy” with his direction of the film, which internally is believed to be the best of the series." - Gossip Cop
@Amelie,
The Runaways hasn't opened in alot of countries yet so you can't say comments like that and I for one am dying to see it........have been reading good things about Kristen and Dakota's performances.
I wanted Jane Campion to do Twilight. The Piano is my favorite movie of all time.
So apparently it's just a small reshoot of 2 to 3 days, and that's it? (Janna's link). That's good, Robert won't be doing any time consuming shoots for it, and it won't conflict with his schedule. But I also think that Summit are trying to downplay it.
Well I won't be seeing Eclipse in theaters anyways, I'll most probably watch it dvd rental when it is released on dvd, unless the fan reviews here of the movie are stellar, then I might change my mind.
I have been consistenly losing interest in those movies as time goes by, with the exception of Twilight (the first movie, despite its flaws).
Well I don't know what happened, but apparently two posts of my comment got posted! I'm trying to delete one of them, but for some reaosn it won't let me. I'm sorry for the double post! *blushes*
Twilight is my favorite of the two movies they have out so far and I liked how Hardwicke did the film - a lot better than New Moon........I realize some don't like CHardwicke ...maybe because she gossiped about R/K being "together" but I really liked her direction of what felt like an Indie film but became international.
I think they might reshoot some scenes with proper cameras/equipment just because of the promised "3-D Experience". Because they originally only shot Eclipse with normal cameras BUT Summit didn't want to pass up the golden opportunity of the Avatar induced 3D hype - and the big money that comes with it... so they just announced the "Eclipse 3D Experience" - way after the shoot. Even though everyone should know by now that an only CGI made 3D movie just isn't the same - and certainly not worth the audience's money. Just look at "Alice in Wonderland"...
Anyway, I think the reshoot doesn't have to be a bad or dramatic thing and it doesn't mean that Eclipse won't be a good movie or that DS is a bad director! It's probably just a pretty normal thing in Hollywood.
Sweet that they are gonna redo stuff if it ain't right, i mean they so could've added more into New Moon...
About Catherine H... remember she was the one who wanted Kristen...who Rob wanted to meet so he auditioned...and then was so great that Kristen and Catherine chose him 2B "Edward"!!!
We do owe Catherine...plus she gave us the "best kiss" I've ever seen in a film...woohoo!!! Love that scene!!! Good on the two of them...hot in the city baby!!!!
@ Cool Lolli!!!
Jane Campion is from NZ!!! Nice thought!!!
luv from NZ
@Kia Ora Nik6!!!
Stil waitin 4 ur insights girl!!!
NZluvsU!!!
Perhaps they realize Eclipse is not flowing right and so they want to fill in something to tie in?
It is possible CH got love 'right' in Twilight, or it is possible that the book and script for Twilight lent itself more toward that. NewMOOn was more about pain, not the bloom of first love.
As for kiss-- I cannot decide if Twilight kiss is the best, or if LAst of the MOhicans kiss (with Daniel DayLewis and Madelline Stowe) was the best, or if it is a tie. I cannot think of any other film kiss that moved me like these 2.
Interesting Solas. I'll check out the Mohican kiss.
Yes, I think Twilight was more romantic and the script made some parts of the movie better then the script - for example her discovery of him as a vampire was more dramatic in the movie then the book and the prom location was so stunning in the movie vs. outside the gym in the book.
I thought there was a lot of romance in New Moon from the time she sees him in the square to the end of the book and they (the director etc.) just didn't pick up on it. They didn't have the sensibilities to see all the material that was there - all the nuance and beauty/complication in their relationship - it was all lost.
...the script made some parts of the movie better then the book
I don't think you can really compare the romance between Twilight & NM. Twilight the book is full of romance & the joys of first love. NM the book has practically no romance in it, it's 95% angst. Since they were following the books, NM has to be more angsty because Edward wasn't even in the book as much as he was in the movie. So I don't think it's fair to say that CW didn't do as good a job as CH because there was no romance.
I agree about Hardwick. She just isn't the right person. Bring back Chris, New Moon was awsome!
the only important thing is Rob feels right although he has lot of job.
Anyway we will be expecting eclipse next summer, so if this to improve the movie, go ahead.
I loved the Catherine/Twilight vibe. And I love Chris Weitz-he is quite a charmer and did the best he could with New Moon. I think my issue is with Stephanie Meyers! Why oh why did she have to go off on the werewolf tangent?
So apparently they are pick-ups and not reshoots. Different kettle and far less dramatic...lol
I will always thank CH for the prom dance. I simply refuse to believe any fan was unaffected by their first real view of Rob in a tux...
CW is always and forever a gent...
@ Marna~Your 100% right!
CH ..I think, ruined Twilight. I have never been more disapointed leaving a movie theater than I was after seeing Twilight. I couldn't believe the book I fell in love with was protrayed like it was on film. Of course I loved Rob, and a few other aspects (Charlie, the humans) but most of it was a hot mess.
@ Desi I respect your opinion, but I don't think the fans owe CH anything. And while I think Rob is the hottest thing there is, I certainly have seen much better on screen kisses. Again, not that I'm complaining.. Rob making of with anything is hot. But not feeling the chemistry at all with KS
I cant see a director allowing another director to take the helm just because their having a diva moment. This is their work, their name, their brand so to speak. If this is true I hope Slade reels against Summit and pushes for a higher standard.
NO TO CATHERINE!!!! She mutilated Twilight into unrecognizable chunks!
Oh gotta go with Catherine Hardwicke and Twilight. I have had the New Moon DVD since it came out (I stood in line at midnight at Walmart) but I haven't even bothered to watch it. I watched the fast forward Edward scenes and the extra features but Edward looks like an old made up man (like outta Moulin Rouge)---and Chris did not get the romance! Who will ever forget the scene where Edward walks into the cafeteria in Twilight??? Or the kiss or the looks Bella and Edward gave each other. I think Catherine would have made that reunion scene in Voltera ignite the screen with combustible lust!!! Chris W---ah, not so much---! Of course this is just one woman's opinion and my granddaughter(17) now loves Jacob:(
Chris scrimped on whatever romance there was in NM. Catherine, for all her wild ways and ditzy comments about Rob, nailed the romance. Twilight kiss wins hands down, even against Mohichans. Breaking Dawn she could do the romance sections. Eclipse also.
lolli...
I agree with you about what wasn't seen in the story when they did New Moon. They missed opportunities. I've mentioned specifics before and I won't bore anyone with them here again.
Kathy S...
Okay I will bore you.
The reunion scene. What a huge disappointment!
Come on, Chris! You had a buff and god-like Rob, looking suitably 'martyrish' and a Kristen running to save him.
All I saw was a sea of red extras!
Then Bella smacked into Edward and it was all over.
Where was the slo-mo on Edward's gorgeousness and all the sparkliness they supposedly worked so hard to get?? You make him take his shirt off, make everyone groan with lust, and leave him on the screen for a nanosecond??
Come on, Chris!
Not an ounce of the big reveal, the climactic moment, there.
I love catherine, she made an intimate movie, got the casting right, looks, clothes, fight scenes, score and soundtrack amid the studio cutting her budget here and there. Twilight was cool and addictive, while New Moon was meh and all it did was downgrade the franchise.....People /critics were in rhytm when they praise Twilight as a new age gothic vampire love story....
Ref Chris Weiz, the wolf pack/new cast he casted in NM didn't have strong character/acting capability, all they did was stand around shirtless
,while Twilight emphasize Catherine strength as a director the casting was spot on. She cast unknown with strong characters : Cam, Rachel, Edy , Billy Burke, Jacob dad, Rob etc. Cath didn't need big names or shirtless actors to sell twilight....
Catherine dosn't kiss ass, she says what she wants to say, she has integrity, the reason she reject New Moon because she need more time to develop the script...
and re the look for the cullens /vampires in Twilght, Elliot Davis the Director of Photography use Kristen pale skin tone for the whole vampire pale look....
Anyway if you listen to her discussion about Twilight (lots of Rob story ) and film at UCLA in front of film students, you will understand how a passionate film maker she is....I have the audio if anyone interested....
tina tri do you think you think you can send me the audio??
here is my email : kim.tobar15@gmail.com
P.S. thanks!
...I also wouldnt mind if they ask CH, Twilight was my favorite, I dont know how many times I've watched my Twilight DVD. I've only watched seen New Moon 8times...
I hope Rob get paid big bucks for this headache..That would suck to put in that amount of time into somthing and get a call "hey guess what ? you got to come to back and redo some stuff aaand we got to cram it in 3 days..um..3 long days"
Urgh... I sincerely hope it's not CH, I didn't like her approach in Twilight at all. She assumes too many things.
CW Will be better, but that brings the question - why didn't they stick to him in any event.
Maybe Rob's modesty patch moved??? (Yay?)
@ Cla Bozolinas: Yes... the wigs are terrible, maybe one of them was a bit lopsided?? LOL
I got to chime in here about something-I LOVE how CH directed Twilight. The vibe is edgy, the soundtrack was a HUGE part of the story, the scenery, and she was just amazing with that budget. I dont care how looney she comes off. Its her WORK that stands alone. Twilight I can watch over and over again. New Moon-I wasnt a huge fan of the music. It was OK but it didnt feel right. Bring a woman on board to get to the GUT of the story. Bring back the emotion.
@ Cindygal...skorpia...I'm with both of you 1000%...still lovin that kiss...
my husband does too... when i practice the "R" version with him...not that he knows it...but i think he has his suspicions...when he finds the twilight dvd in the machine everyday...heeheehhee...either way...he ain't complaining...moooaningggg and grroooanning perhaps, but not complaining...heeeheehhee...
(too much info right...sorry...but it always brings a smile to my face either way!!!)
@ skorpia
ITA on CH and Twilight. I have watched it so many times, and still love it. NM not so much. Twilight had real charm, despite the obvious budget restraints. The music was great. I did like NM, and it certainly looked good, bigger budget and it showed, but it just didn't grab me as much. I have high hopes for Eclipse, but don't think that anyone could recapture the charm of the first film.
Hippy Hardwicke cannot be allowed anywhere near Eclipse!
For me the huge problem I had with CH was adding scenes (the field trip) and leaving out scenes (blood typing). Yeah I know MR (who sucks) wrote the script, but as a director she has some input. Also the very poor special effects... and NOT because of the budget but the poor editing! Take for example the scene where Edward throws Bella on his back and runs. There was a scene where he is running up the hill and it looks like low budget puppets. That should have been cut out and the rest of the "running" ...which looked fine left in then it would have been fine... I cringe everytime I see it. Other scenes as well.... like the scene where Edward goes from one tree to the next. The part where it looks like they are hovering in mid air...Why??? it looked so fake and cheesy. If they would have removed that small portion. Showed the part with Edward saying "do you trust me" then showing him landing on the other tree, it would have been much better. Just becuase you have a low budget doesn't mean you have to have bad editing.
Im not completely happy with CW either but thought he did a much better job... Quality much better. I do however think he blew it from the part Alice comes back to the end of the movie. Except for seeing Rob and the voltori fight. I thought he rushed the ending and left out improtant parts
ok Kim, I will email it to you, Cheers!
