Robert Pattinson Talks In Depth About "Remember Me" To Teen Hollywood

From Teen Hollywood.com
By Lynn Barker

Between Twilight films, gorgeous, hot actor Robert Pattinson tries to take on other roles that challenge him. No matter what the story is, he likes to play "intense" characters!

Now, in New York, Rob is telling us that his character Tyler, in the new romantic drama Remember Me, a volatile NYU student trying to cope with a family loss and reaching out to the daughter of the man responsible reflected his own need to grow up and mature. He admits he was "a bit of an idiot" when younger and his "actorly" swagger tended to make people want to beat him up!

Robert confides that he's known a lot of troubled teens in his life and really seems to "get" it.

Rob's leading lady, "Lost's" Emilie de Ravin was very impressed with him saying that he brought "all these intricate details" to the role. She thought, "how do you come up with these things?" One of those "things" was literally beating himself up in frustration on camera.. but the moment was cut from the film. (Kate: Wonder if it will be in the extras on the DVD? )

Rob says he was thrilled to be out of his pale vampire make-up for a while but admits that all the crowds gathering in New York to see him shoot "drove me insane" for a while until he learned to just mentally block them out in order to focus on his character. When asked if he is worried about continually playing brooding, worried young men, he just kids that 'maybe I am brooding and wounded'. (Kate: Awww come here and I'll make it all better)

TeenHollywood: Was it refreshing to be in a film where you didn't have to bite someone?

Rob Pattinson: Oh, I've bit people in this (laughs). No I didn't. It's different. I feel like I'm missing out on something. It's nice. It's kind of a relief especially not having all the make-up on. That was one of the main things.

TeenHollywood: What attracted you to the role of Tyler in this film?

Rob: I read it after the first Twilight film and I always kind of liked it. It was always in the back of my mind and the opportunity came up in between the second and third ones; only a small period of time so you can only do a certain type of movie. I was trying to remember all the little things that I'd read and that was kind of perfect.

It didn't need any real prep time or anything and there was something different about it. It didn't fit into a typical teen movie type of thing. I hadn't really read a script like it and it seemed quite realistic and I found the character to be very accessible for me. I'd always really connected to it and I don't really know why (laughs).

Well - the most in-depth questions about the movie so far from Teen Hollywood...never assume...

When Rob understands the relationship between actor and character, and sounds like he's on the way, he won't have to...er... give himself a going over anymore...lol

Bravo Teen Hollywood for schooling the other outlets on what a thoughtful, interesting question is!

Such insightful reflections from Rob on undirected anger and rebellion. He always seems to be on a quest, learning as much about the world and himself with every role he takes on.

We are so damn lucky he's willing to open up and share his journey with us!

Skorpia,
Well, I love Scorps too and the Intense and all that, which you mentioned. However, when Rob talks about the 'blase' attitude and not holding grudges, that goes against a real Scorp. (I know whereof I speak, believe me.)

You might know he's a Taurus--doesn't everyone?--and he's got Cancer rising and his moon in Cancer. Both of these signs are very evident in him.

(As far as I know, Rob doesn't believe in astrology, which doesn't mean it doesn't operate within him anyway.)

Anyway, his crazy, 'luney' sense of humour--hallmark of a Cancer-- and his super sensitivity can both be attributed to the Cancer, which, like Scorpio, is a feeling, water sign.

It might be the FEELING, the emotional depth, you sense in him, and that comes from his double Cancer for sure. All the water signs have this, including Scorpio.
He actually has very little Scorpio in his chart, and it is not in a personal planet.

His Taurus is also very evident in his behaviour.
Calm, the grace under pressure, which he does really well. Grounded, which is typical Taurus, and thank god he has that because, what with what is going on around him, he NEEDS this! Practical, like becoming an exec. producer at such a young age. Wealth-builder, like socking away all that mulla he's getting. Sensual and sexy, very Taurean, which is the second sexiest astrological sign. (The first IS Scorpio, bar none, because of that passion and intensity you mentioned.)

I could go on, but I think the strong Cancer in him takes care of some of what you've noticed.

Watch out. His Venus--governing relationships--is in Gemini, the most fickle sign on the zodiac. His Taurus, though, loyal and devoted, would totally off-set that when he meets the right mate.

Sorry, favourite topic.

When I see 'Teen' in a magazine title, I think of the silly magazines I bought really for the photos, over 30 years ago. This, however, was one of the best interviews I've read in a long time, other than maybe the 'real' magazines like GQ and that ilk.
Fresh, not hackneyed questions; insightful answers and questions that paid attention and continued.

Losida,
Yeah, we are lucky. He's very giving in the important ways, let's us in to understand him, even though--rightly--he guards his private life.
I love the way he uses his film roles to discover things about himself. He's so analytical and, as you said, questing, searching. It's fantastic. A lot of other actors could learn from that attitude.

Jesse--I find it an interesting topic as well. :-) I am a Scorpio; have been told I am real scoripio, yet I don't hold grudges nor do I look for revenge; I am VERY forgiving. However, I NEVER forget.--
The thing about astrology is that in effect on one's life it is similar to genetics or family background: genetics and the way we are raised definitely affect and influence us, our personalities, yet we can rise above them (or in some sad cases, degrade ourselves beneath them) and we can certainly reject at least the way we were raised (to an extent, it is part of healthy adolescence and growing and maturing into one's own 'person' or 'self').
I see this with astrology as well: there may indeed be tendencies of being born at certain times, if not a pull by stars, then a seasonal influence, light and gravity combination at certain times, but they are not engraved in stone nor even in our futures; we can overcome them; we can rise above the stars.

solas said...

jesse--I think that is the difference between actors and movie stars: real actors will explore and learn from their roles; movie stars just play at it. Rob is a real actor.

What a calm. collected interview this is! The questions were so insightful and character directed. I give this interviewer an A+ for trying to really understand Rob.And yes, all other interviewers should read this. Any info on the interviewer or was it a blind interview? I could read it over and over again as this person really "got" Rob. Surely does heighten my desire to see Remember Me!(not that I needed anymore reasons!!!)

Solas,
Hate to mention anything personal on the blog--promised myself I would not give myself away--but I am a Scorpio as well, with a Taurus moon, so I understand Taureans really well too.

I agree, we are not ruled by the stars and you make astute observations about biology and environment. Nothing is engraved in stone. I agree, the astrological 'traits' are tendencies, not final products.

We all grow, develop, and I think the astrological tendencies inherent in our natal charts are meant to help us navigate life in our own unique way. It is possible to degrade ourselves with the negative features of the signs which dominate our charts, just as it is possible to use the positive features to offer our unique gifts to the world. We choose how to use them.

Robert is using his in a spectacular (sp?) manner, as this wonderful interview attests. He is one in a million, a man with more depth than any of us knew when we first watched Twilight.

By the way, although there are numerous astrology books out there, the one I think is the best is: Astrology for Lovers, by Liz Greene (ISBN: 078-1-57863-426-2). She is a Jungian analyst as well and is one of the most highly respected astrologers. The title is a little cheap but the book is one with insight and depth. I don't assume I know more or that you don't already know this book, but you'd find it fascinating I think.

Frankly, I think Robert would find this particular book fascinating.

i agree ROb is gifted; I don't attribute it to his birth sign, though.
don't know if he would be interested in astrology. My understanding from Rob is only from observing himself, listening to/reading his words. and extrapolating the points whilst determining what is humour and dismissing it from the plotting of the points for the picture. Because he has mentioned karma, and a sense/grasp/appreciation of it, and karma is almost antithetical to astrology, I don't see him taking astrology seriously at all. On the other hand, there are so many points i don't have, so it could be karma is not really part of the picture and perhaps other elements, including astrology, are.
I certainly wish I could get to know him in depth. Working with kids, adolescents, adults, especially those dealing with stressful situations and challenges, i personally find Rob tremendously interesting.

There's lots about astrology, or some aspects of it, which I don't agree with either. And we must not be ignorant of it, dismissive, out of hand.

But, I do not see it as antithetical to karma at all. Human choice and free will are in both; the human soul has just 'chosen', if you will, which natal chart signs will assist it in the current lifetime, assist it in reaching the goal it has set for itself before its next incarnation. The human being works with that and the soul, in its wisdom, has chosen particular combination of signs in particular planets in order to pursue its life goals.
Looked at in this way, each sign has qualities, tendencies, sensibilities, which help the person's soul to fulfill his or her karmic tasks.

These things all work together.

Oh, and I'm not sure what Rob meant when he said he believed in karma. He said something about it kicking him in the ass, as if it was a punishment. That's not it at all. It is not only something that happens to you; it is something you--and your soul--choose.

I think of your astrological natal chart as a tool your soul uses to achieve its goal during a particular incarnation. This time, Scorpio will help do that, next time maybe Gemini. Although it is more complicated than that.
It is theory, a belief system, not science. I get that.

But if you read Liz Greene's book you might be surprised at your response. It's got a lot of wisdom in it.
