and the Runaways did worse than RM.maybe this is a sign of whats to come, maybe the expiry date is closer than we think, not all franchise enjoy long shelf life like harry potter
Rob+Logic... you are abit of gloom and doom... aren't you? These movies have not yet shown worldwide... so saying that they have bombed is way too early.
One was made for a budget of 10Mil and they other budget was 16mil... they will make at least three time their money... I am certain.
Okay quite posting the same untruth over and over again, Remember Me did NOT bomb, only in your dreams. Remember Me's numbers are good, and that's a fact.
But the runaways does seem like it bombed, but again I don't care for this movie anyways.
Second again in your dreams would the Twilight franchise just die down, Twilight is a legitimate franchise just like any other franchise. I may not like the last book of it, and I may not like how they are doing some of the movies. But that doesn't negate the fact that Twilight/Edward is a very successful franchise, and none of your wishful thinking will change that. And I hope that more epic romance movies will be made now.
So why don't you go to a Harry Potter (sp?) fansite and spare us...
all these pressure these people are putting on ROB,what bombed and what was great, most of the people saying the runaways is a success but i do not care for the runaways it's not my type of movie but i did support it because it;s kristen's
Umm...The Runaways definitely did not bomb this weekend. In fact they had a pretty good limited release opening (especially given the fact that they are rated R) Great theater average for a Rated R movie
And umm..Remember Me definitely did not bomb either. This was not some big romantic comedy, it was an independent movie and it performed as it was expected.
Neither had great openings at BO, but to say that either bombed is just false. They both had decent BO numbers (you cant even rate Runaways yet because its not in Wide Release). Not bad, not great, but okay.
I think people forget that both these are Independent movies with small budgets (Runaways even smaller than Remember Me). They are both un track to break even.
And most importantly, they are both getting critical notice for their performances. Despite mixed reviews for Remember Me, Rob got a lot of great praise. And Runaways which has gotten better reviews has given Kristen the best reviews of her career so far.
I love that Rob and Kristen have refused to go mindless big bang movies that are just in it for the money, and chosen smaller meaningful movies
i don't even understand the mentality that compares twilight and harry potter..they don't even have an attachment..i am at the same age with Rob and i love both of 'em..i've read harry potter's 7 books and twlight's 4 books..i've watched harry potter's 6 movies and twilight's 2 movies..and i am still saying that that doesn't even make sense to compare them..sooo different..
@monigue.. hell yes my dear friend..both remeber me and the runaways haven't yet shown worldwide..Moreover, Remember me is not going to be shown in Turkey until April 30th and God knows when The Runaways will be shown..i don't even get the target of speaking so early about the movies' results..
Anyway, let's observe..why is that prejudice for?..
i am totally new to robsessed in writing because i had a bit of difficulty in my password.but now i would be able to write.so greetings ladies i am from the UKbut visiting the USA now so i saw kristen;s movie so i had the best of both worlds .i love ROBERT and we in the UK will support RM.LOVE YOU'LL
Sinem, I completely agree. I dont get the comparison between Twilight and Harry Potter. I think both are successful, shown staying power, and ignited intense fan investment. Why compare and consequently put one franchise down?
Golnaz, I was as baffled as you about the comment about the Runaways. Not only did it not "bomb" it had a fairly successful opening weekend, especially given it only came out in 10 cities and hasnt experienced wide release. And i dont understand the need to compare Remember Me and Runaways. Why does everything need to be a competition. I think both are going to earn back what they cost to produce and both have gotten Rob and Kristen critical praise. Not to mention Runaways budget was 10 mil compared to Remember Me's 16 mil., and Runaways is Rated R and Remember Me is PG 13. So NOT comparable. Let's stop trying to put them into competition.
I am so proud of Rob for Remember Me. Others that didnt see his potential before (aka were blinded by their biases towards twilight) are starting to take notice. And he has two more wonderful projects (Bel Amie and WFO) coming up. Excited!
Rob is right neither of these films would have gotten made without the Twilight power and money. How sad would that have been? RM is a wonderful film which I will happily watch multiple times. I haven't seen Runaways yet.
PS Don't feed trolls they just come back for more.
I don't see competition either...I read all the Harry Potter books and enjoy both movies and books.
I am just more obsessed with Twilight because the love story speak to me more and each of the two stars are doing different things... it's not like they are both females and go for the same part and one loose. Why are they looking at small movies with small budgets that doing well for themselves and not looking at the 100ml movie with bigger stars that are bombing left right and center and leave RP and KS alone... I am happy that they are doing movies with good stories instead of some bang, bang... gadget driving movies.
They are competing against the big movies and obviously being held to a much higher standard than they would have been without having two stars that came from a successful franchise. Remember Me and the Runaways may not have even made it to the big screen without Rob and Kristen (and Dakota :))
I am only going to make a correction to an incorrect statement made earlier. I have not listened to this interview, so I will make no further comments.
The Runaways is due for its nationwide release on 4/9. So to say that is bombed at the box office is untrue.
Addressing only the issue of RM recouping - not how well it did at the box office per se - Finke puts the figure at 2/3 of the budget already covered by foreign presales. I knew the presales were good, but didn't realize it was as high. Means that with RM's take to date it has made back it's production costs and only has to recover some marketing/promo. With international b.o and dvd sales, it will see profit.
I think Rob makes a solid point about the franchise involvement enabling small films to go up against the majors and get a wider audience than they otherwise would.
Cool, Kristen doesn't have more films lined up until Breaking Dawn in the fall. I wonder if that means some trips to London to visit Rob before they start the press junket for Eclipse. I am still talking up Remember Me to everyone I know and some people I don't know, partially because of Rob but partially because it is simply an excellent movie with a good script and great acting. I am proud of both Kristen and Rob for doing projects that interest them, not just projects that make them a ton of money. true artists, both of them.
I know this has already been said, but, because I am OPINIONATED when it comes to Rob....Remember Me DID NOT BOMB Rob=Logic...
It's a small film that opened in a limited number of theaters and has done very well considering the BLOCKBUSTER movie it was running against.
Even Rob is happy with the outcome...I can't speak for the Runaways as I haven't seen it, and haven't paid attention to any numbers...your entitled to your opinion, and maybe you didn't like the movie, but don't say it bombed because that is in fact UNTRUE..
Now....breath in, breath out...just back from Remember Me #9....still as good if not better than #1....
Last night Steph L said she went to an 11:00 showing and it was sold out or packed...which is awesome...
It's word of mouth & the fans...so keep going and keep talking to people about the movie...
I saw Remember Me again today, and there was a very good crowd there, better than the previous times I saw it. Today, the audience was more middle-aged couples. I am hoping that some of the more intelligent positive reviews are giving people who originally wouldn't go, another perspective to consider viewing the movie. And the remarks on the way out of the cinema were extremely positive.
Rob=Logic....learn a little about small budgeted movies. To make half your budget the first weekend for RM was fantastic and it has not opened overseas yet. As of this weekend, RM had hit almost $14Million, so wait unil the fat lady sings before stating RM bombed. Did you even see the movie? Probably not. Way to go Rob!!!!!
Just tossing out a general comment, I doubt anyone, Summit included, expected RM to bring in Twilight/NM type box office receipts.
In my black & white way of thinking a movie, made for a small amount of money (to Hollywood anyway) that recoups most of that in less than TWO WEEKS is pretty damn successful.
If you want a definition of a movie bomb, take a look at Green Zone's numbers.
And, Golnaz, ITA on the critical notices that both R & K garnered. Absolutely important.
Remember Me: So far $13,900,000. Per theatre average $1,490. It's added three more theatres. 2,215 now. Foreign Box Office totals not yet available.
This drama was always going to be a small film, even with Twilight Saga's Robert Pattinson starring. Besides, Summit Entertainment spent only $16M to make it and then covered 2/3s of the budget with foreign pre-sales. Source: Deadline Hollywood-Nikki Finke.
The Runaways: $803,000 three day total. Limited release in 244 theatres ONLY. Per theatre average $3,291. Expanding April 9th.
I agree, RM and the Runaways are doing very well in their category. I never know if I should cry or laugh when I see comments comparing their BO numbers with blockbusters' like Alice or Green Zone... you can't compare apples and oranges! Plus, there are so many other factors...RM has a difficult theme and is not a popcorn movie, an action movie or a romcom. I've read somewhere that the revealing of its ending on the Internet has harmed it, and that potential viewers may have decided against seeing it at all because of this spoiler. But it's got a good buzz, and a good word of mouth... As many of you have pointed out here, I think the most important thing is that RM and the Runaways are small low-key budget movies which might never have been made at all!
I think what Rob meant is that the popularity that has been awarded them by Twilight has helped push thru smaller films that otherwise would not have been made. Plus, he probably knew what his numbers were and he was happy with them....and he should be. Remember Me was amazing AND he was amazing in it...
@Rum, sort of agree, but yet wanted to clarify my opinion of "spoilers". I read the script, on purpose---completely wanted to know and it in NO WAY ruined the movie for me. Actually, it helped me focus on the movie and the acting rather than the sensitive subject matter ending. Then again, I'm not one for angsty movies at all, so this was my coping mechanism.
What I absolutely agree with is that critics & reviewers have given away the ending without the benefit of folks seeing the movie for themselves and seeing the ending IN CONTEXT. It is handled extremely well and is not, imo, exploitative. Some people may be relying heavily on what the critics are saying---including the fact of THAT particularly ending---and opting out of seeing it on that fact alone.
This is where word-of-mouth comes into play. This is literally one of the highest quality films I've ever seen. It deserves to be viewed---sensitive ending, or no. In fact, that ending is the reason for the film. It's a tribute.
@Gwen Cooper 426 - I totally agree with you Gwen. The only problem is that the ending is apparently seen by some - viewers and critics - as something you are not allowed to put in a movie, as if it were taboo. The comments I've read by those who slammed the movie showed that they were indignant- to them it was a kind of sacrilege. In other words, instead of seeing RM as a tribute they saw it as an insult. Negative comments were a minority but then I don't know if people who hated the movie would bother to go and comment on a site which tries to be honest and objective about it. All I'm seeing is that this ending sometimes provokes very strong, furious reactions and even hate, and that this might drive some people to decide not to go and see it. So very sad... but I'm sure the good WOM will make up for some of the damage, and it might not cause such controversy abroad where the issue of course is felt and seen somewhat differently.
GwenCooper: Agreed. RM is one of the highes quality films. On another thread I used the phrase Oscar-worthy. Don't you think? Damn, I'm talking about this movie on every stupid thread. Shakes head.
@Rum, yes, it'll be interesting to see how RM plays in other countries. Fingers crossed! And hoping that word-of-mouth keeps RM in theaters in the US for a bit longer as well. It truly deserves to be seen and discussed!
@jesse, I do agree! I think the script, the cinematography and the soundtrack stand the best chances of getting awards. I cannot even think of another film that used music as well as RM has. It's absolutely PERFECT. The script is gutsy, but with that ending? Doubtful. Cinematography could win---part action, part romance, RM captured the drama so well---especially for a movie without a large budget and/or special effects. AND it showcases NYC just "before"... I think the entire cast did exceptionally well in their performances---such a cohesive effort and they all deserve kudos---Rob in particular, but realistically? He won't get anything just yet.

but both RM and the Runaways Bombed at the box office so this is not a solid argument.
TW does not compare because its part of a franchise.
