Rob dear, you can climb under the table with me ANYTIME, baby... I just couldn't resist saying that in response to his last line in the Vogue interview! I gotta admit, he and Emilie look good together!! They're both very gorgeous. The TOC pic is not very flattering, he def looks TOO skinny! Thank God he has some meat on his bones now for BelAmi. Love ya, Rob!!
I've been in love with Rob for more than a year- So long, time spent, adoring, admiring, appreciating....And now this interview. I'm so upset I can't even type. I go to Robsessed 10 times a day and NOW I hear the word negro in an interview. And then Rob laughs it off and uses the word again! Where the FUCK is negro land. Show me it on a FUCKING map! Such an insulting word for Africans in America or London or wherever. I'm so hurt at this ignorance. And I feel like an idiot for loving Rob.
thank you Kelly for your response, I know it's meant in L.O.V.E. I'm sure anyone in Negroland would agree, however it doesn't exist and is an ignorant and insulting term. Extremely. I can understand and forgive ignorance.............I'm just disappointed, and it's more than mild.
I have to say, ITA with Kelly. I am sensitive to words like that, too, and I don't think it really needed to be included in the interview necessarily...but, the context suggests that this is a bad word, something you don't want others to hear you say. I truly don't think that this was a racist comment.
@Makare-please calm down! I'm from the south, I know an ignorant racial remark when I hear one-that was NOT racial in context really-it was not meant to be negative! Please! Come on now. British people are NOT known for being racist anyway, really.
Love the vagina comment. Too funny. I'm sure he was so embarrassed, he didn't know where to look all day. Enough to put any shy boy off vagina's for a long time LMAO!
Bet that's killed a lot of fan fiction readers fantasies Haha!
What a doll you are for trying to comprehend, explain, build a bridge. But let it not be for nothing. Let this comment be to everyone who reads it a learning. Negro is not an acceptable term. Ever. Be it leading or following, it is offensive. Ignorance is not bliss. Ah what a painful end to my Robsession. Perhaps ignorance WAS in fact bliss. Be at peace love, and thank you for the conversation.
Makare: you are aware of the heritage of the interviewer? Jenny is Lena Horne's granddaughter. I'm sure she has a great understanding of the context of the word, and it's use, and the prejudice that her family endured. And I'm sure Rob and she shared a mutual understanding in the context of this conversation. I don't wish to suggest how you should feel, or make light of your reaction, but just wanted to make sure you understood there was a context.
Makera- Yeah that caught me off guard too. I get you. Especially after the comments John Mayer said in that Playboy interview that came out yesterday and him saying the N-word and talking about his dick being like David Duke. Yikes!!!
But...I know that Rob isn't racist. Miquita Oliver is one of Rob's best friends and I believed maybe an ex. She is bi-racial meaning half black. She looks black. He has been friends with her for a number of years.
As a black person I can honestly say that 'Negro' isn't the N-word that bothers me, so while I was a bit taken aback by the fact that it was brought up I wasn't offended by it.
CG- You know I love you. But...the word negro or nigger is highly offensive. It has too much emotional baggage behind it. Saying it in any context can and will offend. There is no way of talking around it making it seem better.
But...From the article she was saying every time he would say "actor" he would whisper it like he was saying the word "negro". So it's like the word "acting" offends him. Rob is not racist. He was just going along with what she said. I just don't get the part about "What if we were "acting" like Negroes? Then we'd be fucked-we couldn't hear anything. Huh??? You are confusing me Rob. I don't get it? Can anyone explain that part to me? Because he went right over my head with that. comment.
Shani-The quotations around "acting" and "Negroes" leads me to believe that it wouldn't have mattered what word she used to describe how he whispered the word actor his comment would have been the same. And I think the whole, "Then we'd be fucked--we couldn't hear anything" comment is just a play on the fact that they are whispering these words and if they were 'being' them then they wouldn't be heard at all.
I could be totally way off-base but that's all I got from it.
I was a bit scared at first cos to me in the 1st pic, he looked kinda ugly.... but the following ones, OMG he is stunning! so gorgeous! I'm dead!!!! I hope there are more pictures in this mag? please tell me there are more pics!!!!!
Wow everyone, Rob has hit a nerve with his negro comment.I didn't like that interview.I thought it was ridiculous. He'll be losing fans if thats his attitude. It just didn't sound like the Rob I like.
Rob is a skinny lad. I've said it all along and now we really see it in that one shot. So eat up, my boy, and even drink some of the high caloric beer. He looks great in the other pix. A very romantic look for both of them.
Since I do so like slim, bookish, intellectual type men who wear glasses, Rob in glasses, even tinted glasses, is just icing on the cake. Yummmmmy
@ Makere I am interested to learn why the word Negro offends you so much. I am not trying to have a go at anyone of African/American heritage but if I pick up my dictionary the word is not meant as an insult. There are other words used by black and white Americans alike that are much more offensive IMO. Yeah okay and I am not American either so I am interested from an outsiders point of view. I think the whole article written by Jenny Lumet for the Details magazine spread is disjointed and a mash up of the two interviews she has done with Rob. Not well written..(maybe she should stick to screenplays??)As we all know everything she has written is subjective so who really knows how much of it is VERBATIM on Robs part. So don't be offended by someone saying ROB SAID. Wait until you hear it from his own mouth. Personally I do not think that would ever happen. Because I do not think he would have meant anything he said to come out offensive to others or racist.
Well, a couple of things after looking at this some more:
I thought this was going to be more of a fashion spread, they only have Emilie in one dress that I don't really like. I mean, they spent all day shooting, & this is all they got?
Second, the use of the word Negro. I honestly had no idea this was considered a derogatory term, I thought it was an old fashioned term & nothing more. Since I don't personally know Rob, I can't say that he didn't mean it in a racist way, but somehow I just don't believe he did. That said, I definitely think this is going to come back & bite him in the ass. If there is one person here who is insulted by his use of the word, then there are going to be many people out there also insulted by it. His manager Nick practically lives up Rob's ass, where was he when this interview was conducted? Why didn't he stop him? Why did he let it get published?
love the one with him and blue glasses how freaking sexy is he?!!
Emilie looks so darling too, however I think the age difference between the two shows vividly...I dunno it's her stance the way she looks at him sorta motherly lol okay that's pushing it but she is looking at him like she would a younger brother, like she's the wiser one!! Oh well that's how it looks like to me *shrug*
liked the twitter bit, he's so aware of the craziness that surrounds him it's just sad.
Pure movie star. This man was born to be photographed and filmed. The camera loves every inch of him and so does this obsessed, totally (should be) committed NB!!!
They're so lovely together in that pic. Ro-man-tic. The camera loves Rob, what a beautiful face. Can I have Emilie's pink dress? Oh, and I love his blue glasses. Btw anyone remembers Rob with these funny yellow glasses in the 2008 Teen Vogue fotoshoot?
I just woke up and have read more comments about "that word".
I took my shower and had a diatribe going through my head, in response because I am no stranger to offensive terms and labels in my own life. I am someone who lives with the LAST ACCEPTABLE prejudice.
I didn't read that statement in a derogatory way. Period.
Here are my last 2 thoughts on it, and hey.. they are Nana-isms... you guys are so lucky :)
1) The first one to smell smoke is always the one who started the fire.
2) There isn't one word known to us in any language that can define you. The impact of any word is only as strong as you let it be.
Robert Pattinson is not perfect, but I know he has a good heart and a strong mind. I also know that in life, if you cannot allow a second chance how can you hope to ever be granted one.
Love Rob but am not a fan of that first photo - how can they take such a beautiful man and make him look like that ... and put it in the magazine. The others are stunning though
Being a black person living in good old britain rascism exists but it's very subtle (in most cases). I go to uni in a town which is known for being rascist. Gotta admit though the Negro word caught me off guard mainly because i didn't/don't understand the follow up comment. Didn't really worry about it too much until people started picking it up. I hope this doesn't cause a race storm :(
lilyb, the way I understood the whole thing with the N word was the interviewer was scornful of him being so hush hush when mentioning the word actor or acting, she compared him saying those words to saying the word negro i.e. that he was saying something derogatory that he shouldn't think of his profession so badly to talk about it in such a low voice. His comment was "imagine if we were acting as negros no one could hear us speak" i.e.(my interpretation) to double his "shame" of acting with the shameful perception of racism concerning people of color (his shame of being an actor-coupled with people shame of admitting racism towards black people) will produce a completely silent conversation(this is my interpretation again, of what Rob has said) which to his defense I think it was never his intention to bring that whole thing up the interviewer did NOT HIM, and the quote was meant to scorn himself for thinking acting was such a derogatory term compared to a racist word that he can't even say it out loud! did that make sense to you?
*sigh* He looks beautiful here too, even that first one. I adore his weary look.
Re: the N word. I winced when I read that, and thought "No! Why, why, why??" I know the sweetie only said it in order to play on the comment that Jenny had made. And, being American, I am wondering if the word is just not considered as offensive to Brits...? But I am uncomforable that it's there for an American audience to read. Really hope he doesn't receive a shitstorm of bad press for that, especially if the comment is taken out of context.
yea the whole interview honestly was a level above most people's comprehension (no offense to anyone) like on the surface and first read you will get things all wrong and all weird...but reading between the lines people will realize he's very deep and conflicted, and thoughtful, and full of endless inquisitiveness a totally different angle of his personality that many people didn't see before...some of the comments were a little out there lol like the whole disease thing (arghh) I wonder if it was the beer talking then?! anyway most creative people when you listen to them you feel like your listening to a scratched up record...their thoughts dive in and out of their psyche and it all sounds jumbled up...people who are truly interested in what such people have to say must learn to filter out the juicy bits and toss out all the pulp :) glad to have helped!
@Puddle...you can bet your life he's going to get a backlash for that N word...unfortunately,even though as you so rightly said HE DIDN'T bring it up. The storm is already gathering on other sites...sigh
Bless you!!! for saying what I couldn't.. I knew he didn't mean it in a derogatory way.. but well sometimes putting thoughts on paper when emotions run high is difficult for me. So thank you for saying what I believed as well!
I would hope people would cut Rob a little slack and not doubt him as the humanist he is. My gripe against the interviewer although she did a great and refreshing job, alienating all and anything Twilight in this interview. she needed to understand that many people reading her words/his words will not get them because they are not straight forward and they are not simple but very engraved. she should have been more subtle and more specific especially since this is the first interview breaking out of the mold we've all known of him so far. Hopefully his fans will give him the same amount of trust they've been giving him so far and not misjudge him so easily. And anything I could contribute to help explain Rob is my pleasure really :)
@lizzibee, I'm saddened to hear that, though not at all surprised.
Why couldn't Jenny have left that bit of the conversation private? She should have known it would create negative backlash for Rob--that the American public would only hear a snippet of it, or not understand the context of it, and be on the attack, .
All I have to say is that Negro is NOT the "N" word. I mean, it's just an outdated term. Negro/Black/African American is still being used on the US Census! I was going to go into explaining the whole thing, how language works, how they used the word actor in relation to it, how this is in a certain context--but the people offended would (A) not even read it or (B) still not care or understand.
Anyway, if it is really wrong to use it, same as the real "N" word, I think a lot of people don't know that.
Well, on a lighter note, Rob kind of looks like Hugh Laurie in the one photo...interesting, but not necessarily a bad thing!
I thought of this article alot last night. I apologize for using the word Fuck, that's so crude. It was a very emotional response to the word Negro. I can't really apologize for the way it makes me feel. I can take a step back though and consider Rob. I know that the interviewer introduced this word to the interview. Why would she lead him to respond to something like that? When I look in his soulful eyes, I know that he is not racist. He's a deep thinker and says odd things. I have to imagine he didn't mean the comment as it first sounds. I thought of what else he could mean all night from referring to silent acting, to maybe what DeDe was speaking of as far as connotations of using words that are shameful. I really have no idea, but it's sad. Sad for him to walk into it and sad for fans to read it unexpectedly. And I don't believe this will lead to anykind of race storm. I don't believe that's anyone's intention. It would serve no purpose. Everyone just want's to love Rob and remain Robsessed, but that can only be if you have a clear conscience about his intent.
Thanks DeDe; well could you please explain this part? :
He may keep his balls covered in winter, but Allen Coulter says that during the shooting of Remember Me, Rob did bare himself: "It was about control, for him, in the beginning. But he wanted forward motion more than he wanted to protect himself. Really brave—especially for a young guy with a big target on his back."
Rob does seem eager to shed some clothing, to give up the reins.
"Shall we go see about that harness? Seriously, you eventually realize you can't make every single decision. I was always building, always protecting something. At the same time, I seemed to be losing the ability to move. I'd protected myself into checkmate. Even mentally
Hey Rbine sorry for the late reply I had to step out for a few hours!
actually that part also fascinated me as I wasn't sure what it really meant if he was just speaking about shedding his protective cloak for filming as well as his emotional cloak and that is his insistence on having control ( a say in everything he does) in his every day life...business and life decisions. His metaphor I believe to losing a little control was the getting a little naked! Allen seems to enforce that by saying he showed less control while filming RM by ACTUALLY bearing himself(naked physically and emotionally) I maybe completely wrong here but that's what I got from the first portion.
Second portion also speaks of control as he was so much in it that it prevented him from making certain decisions that will further him on the physical and emotional/mental level. The things he's allowed himself to do or NOT do kinda put him in a corner and NOW he realizes that and he wants to forfeit parts of that control to others and allow them "suggestive advice" in his life ( I guess we could compare this to his comment about NOT wanting a publicist) maybe now he realizes that NOT all his decisions are necessarily the correct ones and it's time to get second opinions on things and allow others in.
So maybe this shoot is his way of saying he's ready to break out of the MOLD and although he didn't shed clothes in it "himself", he did however allow people to see him in a completely different light that they're used to, that's sort of like being emotionally naked and giving up the reins a bit.
god!!!am I dreaming???rob is really a beautiful man...I love the details photoshoot so sexy!! the pic of rob with blue glasess holding emilie's hand is too beautiful an cute!!she looks great and he....just kill me I agree the top pic isn't too good I think is a bad angle he looks too thin but hot
Negro is NOT the N word. Why are people getting so emotional about this?? Geeze people get a grip!!It's a older term (probably 60's on back?)but not a bad term.

ReplyDeleteRob is the ultimate epitome of masculine sexuality!!!
makare...
ReplyDeletefirst, Rob didn't bring the topic up.. the author of the article did
second, you don't know the tone with which the comment was spoken
Knowing what I know about Rob, he is not a predjudice person .. no one with a heart like his could be what you are accusing him of.
This is said with the utmost respect to you... I just really think you are reading WAY too much into that comment.
I'm sorry if you feel you have wasted yor time because of 1 comment. That is the real tragedy.
I have to say, ITA with Kelly. ReplyDeleteEr..meant to say 'in the light of the prejudice her family endured.' Little tired right now. :)
ReplyDelete@AP - I didn't know that! I learn so much from all the wonderful ladies of ROBsessed.
ReplyDeleteRob!!! You sexy classy man with your issues about fame. Love you so much.;-)
ReplyDeleteThat part about Pierce going over to the fans and saying hi and Rob wanting to hide under the table. LMAO
@Makare-You're really carrying this too far. So sad. :(

ReplyDeleteRahhh, I'm dying !
lmao 'I just crawl under the table.'
ReplyDeleteand OHLALALA pictures <3
OK, here's the thing: I love my work but hate my job, and I see an advert for a new one that rarely comes up. The deadline's Monday.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess I'll join the unemployed, as I can't tear myself away from the sight of this man.
I got it bad (lucky me!).
His sparkliness can have chemistry with everybody that's why he's so good as an actor !
ReplyDeletelove the one with him and blue glasses how freaking sexy is he?!!
ReplyDeleteEmilie looks so darling too, however I think the age difference between the two shows vividly...I dunno it's her stance the way she looks at him sorta motherly lol okay that's pushing it but she is looking at him like she would a younger brother, like she's the wiser one!!
ReplyDeleteJust lovely, love Rob & Emilie, so sweet.
ReplyDeleteThey're so lovely together in that pic. Ro-man-tic. The camera loves Rob, what a beautiful face. Can I have Emilie's pink dress? Oh, and I love his blue glasses. Btw anyone remembers Rob with these funny yellow glasses in the 2008 Teen Vogue fotoshoot?
ReplyDeleteRob is cute all the time, in all his photos but I am still under his Bel Ami photos impact. I love those photos!!!
ReplyDeleteI just woke up and have read more comments about "that word".
ReplyDeleteI took my shower and had a diatribe going through my head, in response because I am no stranger to offensive terms and labels in my own life.
I hope everyone enjoys their day.
Love Rob but am not a fan of that first photo - how can they take such a beautiful man and make him look like that ... and put it in the magazine. The others are stunning though
ReplyDeleteI LOVE his hair on the picture where "hot-blodded" is writen!
ReplyDeleteFILTM!!!!!!!
Being a black person living in good old britain rascism exists but it's very subtle (in most cases). I go to uni in a town which is known for being rascist.
ReplyDeleteGotta admit though the Negro word caught me off guard mainly because i didn't/don't understand the follow up comment.
ReplyDeletehe looks good here, prefer it to the details shoot, I assume outtakes will surface slowly over time.
ReplyDelete*sigh* He looks beautiful here too, even that first one. I adore his weary look.
ReplyDeleteRe: the N word.
DeDe, ahh i get it now. Thanx for explaining. I just hope people don't make a big fuss about it (although rascism shouldn't be taken lightly)
ReplyDeleteyea the whole interview honestly was a level above most people's comprehension (no offense to anyone) like on the surface and first read you will get things all wrong and all weird...but reading between the lines people will realize he's very deep and conflicted, and thoughtful, and full of endless inquisitiveness a totally different angle of his personality that many people didn't see before...some of the comments were a little out there lol like the whole disease thing (arghh) I wonder if it was the beer talking then?! anyway most creative people when you listen to them you feel like your listening to a scratched up record...their thoughts dive in and out of their psyche and it all sounds jumbled up...people who are truly interested in what such people have to say must learn to filter out the juicy bits and toss out all the pulp :) glad to have helped!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures, gorgeous man.
ReplyDelete@Puddle...you can bet your life he's going to get a backlash for that N word...unfortunately,even though as you so rightly said HE DIDN'T bring it up. The storm is already gathering on other sites...sigh
DeDe
ReplyDeleteBless you!!! for saying what I couldn't.. I knew he didn't mean it in a derogatory way.. but well sometimes putting thoughts on paper when emotions run high is difficult for me. So thank you for saying what I believed as well!
@ Kelly thank you for your kindness! and trust :)
ReplyDeleteI would hope people would cut Rob a little slack and not doubt him as the humanist he is.
@lizzibee,
ReplyDeleteI'm saddened to hear that, though not at all surprised.
Why couldn't Jenny have left that bit of the conversation private? She should have known it would create negative backlash for Rob--that the American public would only hear a snippet of it, or not understand the context of it, and be on the attack, .
Beautiful photos and Rob looks so attractive in the last picture.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics.
ReplyDeleteRomantic with out being fake.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if it is really wrong to use it, same as the real "N" word, I think a lot of people don't know that.
Well, on a lighter note, Rob kind of looks like Hugh Laurie in the one photo...interesting, but not necessarily a bad thing!
Somebody should tell the United Negro College fund that they are insulting people. Google it!
ReplyDelete@Kathy,
ReplyDeleteOnly if you whisper it.
LMAO
ReplyDeleteThanks DeDe; well could you please explain this part? :
ReplyDeleteHe may keep his balls covered in winter, but Allen Coulter says that during the shooting of Remember Me, Rob did bare himself: "It was about control, for him, in the beginning.
ReplyDeleteactually that part also fascinated me as I wasn't sure what it really meant if he was just speaking about shedding his protective cloak for filming as well as his emotional cloak and that is his insistence on having control ( a say in everything he does) in his every day life...business and life decisions.
So maybe this shoot is his way of saying he's ready to break out of the MOLD and although he didn't shed clothes in it "himself", he did however allow people to see him in a completely different light that they're used to, that's sort of like being emotionally naked and giving up the reins a bit.
hope this made sense :)
god!!!am I dreaming???rob is really a beautiful man...I love the details photoshoot so sexy!!
ReplyDeletethe pic of rob with blue glasess holding emilie's hand is too beautiful an cute!!she looks great and he....just kill me I agree the top pic isn't too good I think is a bad angle he looks too thin but hot
VLoves Elvis said it!!!
ReplyDeleteNegro is NOT the N word. Why are people getting so emotional about this?? Geeze people get a grip!!It's a older term (probably 60's on back?)but not a bad term.
@kathy ~ good one!
I don't know whether you'll see my answer, but thanks DeDe for the explanations! ;-))
ReplyDeleteGreat to see he's improving.
