Robert Pattinson Says He's Asking A Lot Of Himself In Bel Ami
From DailyRecord.co.uk

PURSUED by screaming fans wherever he goes, Twilight star Robert Pattinson admits he gets his freedom watching Braveheart. (Kate: Really?)
Thee 23-year-old hearthrob, nicknamed RPattz, says although he hasn't been able to get to a cinema for two years, he can't get enough of the Mel Gibson Oscar-winning film about Scotland's greatest patriot William Wallace.
He admitted: "I saw Braveheart on the television the other day and I've been watching it four times a day since. It's my favourite film. I haven't been to the cinema in two years." (Kate: I'm really doubting that Rob has time to watch this film 4 times a day, seriously that's one long ass movie but anyway lets continue.)
Since he started playing smouldering vampire Edward Cullen two years ago, the London actor has become one of the world's biggest and most lusted after stars.
Last year, while filming new movie Remember Me, he was hit by a taxi while running away from fans and he's a pin-up from America to Japan. (Kate: Um Rob confirmed he wasn't actually hit by a taxi)
Girls - even grannies - ask him to bite them and in November last year a 2000-strong crowd of girls turned out to see him at a fan party in London. (Kate: Yay, you got something right!)
Added to that is the are they-aren't they relationship between him and Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart.
Robert's sudden fame has sometimes made him moan. Last year, he told the Record he couldn't stay in the same place for more than 20 minutes without gaggles of girls surrounding him.
He now reveals that he has started to apologise to people he meets for his over-exposure.
He started out as a model and fell into acting in 2004. Just a year later he was cast as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter And the Goblet Of Fire.
Robert said: "A lot of people value fame very highly, much more highly than they should and they get angry when they see people either not respecting their own fame enough or thinking that they've got famous undeservedly. I took a step in one direction and it kind of just happened, so I can't really claim anything.
"But I find myself at parties having to apologise for a lot of things, just for being myself. It's kind of weird - you can never just walk into a place and just reinvent yourself, you've always got to explain yourself first, which is tiring."
Being the main star of Twilight has seen RPattz become a multi-millionaire. His earnings last year were reportedly £11.25million thanks to the second film in the Twilight Saga films: New Moon, which will be released on DVD on March 22.
It starts another busy year for the actor, whose next film Remember Me with Pierce Brosnan is out in April, and the third film in the Twilight Saga: Eclipse will hit the cinema screens on July 9.
(Kate: Just in case anyone's wondering that's the UK release date. Yes SO unfair:-()
Robert is chatting in a London hotel room and he doesn't look like his famous vampire character because he has grown a beard for new film Bel Ami. He admits for the first time in two years he's been able to walk around his home city largely undetected.
"I would like to do an audition with no one knowing who I am and see what would happen though," he laughed.
What's it like being back in London? Given he's been jetting around the world for premieres, is it different now?
"It's really different," he admitted. "I've been here for such a little time in the last three years. I used to live in Soho and when I came back this time everything was closed. It's weird. Everywhere I used to go to, everything was closed." (Kate: Recession Rob, Recession)
While he was back in London, there were rumours Simon Cowell had offered him a record deal. The actor, who plays guitar and piano, sang and co-wrote on the Twilight soundtrack Never Think and also sang on Let Me Sign, has admitted he wants to do a solo album.
He said: "I don't know when or how and the annoying thing is, it has to be so good or people will just write it off immediately."
There is also talk he is in the running to play Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4. He and High School Musical star Zac Efron's names have been banded about after Tobey Maguire was axed from the franchise. (Kate: Well we know this isn't happening!)
Robert laughed: "I don't think I'm going to be playing Spider-Man, even though I would quite like to do it."
For the moment, he has been rehearsing in London for new film Bel Ami, which started shooting last week.
It stars Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas and is the movie adaption of French writer Guy de Maupassant's 1885 novel of the same name. Robert plays a Parisian journalist who gains power in the city through the manipulation of some very wealthy women.
It's a very different kind of film to the almost chaste Twilight which is aimed at teens.
There are some steamy sex scenes with Pulp Fiction star Uma Thurman and Robert admits they are near the knuckle. (Kate: Ooooh)
"The sex scenes with Uma are kind of disturbing. Her character kind of uses sex as a sort of weapon and my character thinks like an animal. (Kate: STOP! It's too early in the morning to be putting these things into my head.)
"There's a lot of sex scenes in this film, so I'm asking quite a lot of myself, and with lots of different people as well." (Kate:Please I'm supposed to think straight after reading this)
He is also set to star in the final Twilight film based on the books Breaking Dawn, which may be broken into two films, due to the number of books.
He admits to mixed emotions about the end of the saga.
He said: ""It will be strange but it will be great just to be able to know what I'm doing. Not knowing when Breaking Dawn is going to shoot - because it changes all the time - is a kind of burden, to have this thing where you don't know when it's going to happen.
"So you've got to organise everything in your life around that and that can be difficult."
Whether he and co-star Kristen, who plays Bella in the Twilight films, are an item is a question Robert manages to dodge. He has never confirmed the relationship and neither has she, despite the fervent speculation about them.
He will admit he has no problem with relationships but admits he is paranoid anyone close to him could sell a story.
He said: "Actual real relationships with people you have known for ages never change. Like all of my friends, every one I've known, it's all exactly the same.
"It's just new people. If you meet a crowd of people, a lot of times you think someone is going to say something, someone could be going to sell a story about you.
"The majority of times, nothing bad ever happens, but having that paranoia there is very annoying."
Kate: Ok class so what did we learn from this article?? Emmm.... all I can remember is what he said about the sex scenes in "Bel Ami" . Hope you managed to do better with it.
Oh God... Who will put up with Goz now, after the Braveheart thing... :P She will start reciting WW again :P
ReplyDeleteLOL!
@Kate. Please not that picture again, I have work to do, children to take care, I cannot afford spending one more day drooling over him.
ReplyDeleteOne more correction to that article, Rob is apparantly fairly clean shaven so no full beard for Bel Ami according to the tweets we saw over the weekend. Not sure about any 'stache though lol
ReplyDeleteAs for him not been to a cinema for 2 years..doubt it. I think he has. lol
ReplyDeleteAlso IF it is true that Braveheart is his fave movie or one of them anyways YAY, I love that movie myself but I seriously doubt he's watched that 4 times over a short period. LOL
Is this article real?
ReplyDeleteA new interview?
It makes me sad, if true.
Rob sounds a bit lonely and bored.
And a prisoner.
Poor Rob.
Good morning,
ReplyDeleteKate, your comments were cracking me up! It is way too early in the morning for me to be hearing about "sex like an animal." How am I supposed to get ready for work now?
Feel bad for Rob. Having to apologize to people for the craziness and never being able to trust someone new in your life, that would drive me crazy and make me not want to leave the house. I am happy he got to enjoy London while being GrizzlyRob.
I can not wait for this movie.
i do hope he still owns a beard!! i ♥ bearded Rob and yes, he talking about sex scenes is too much for me, now i'm thinking some things that i shouldn't ...
ReplyDeletei really hope he can handle that, a lot os sex scenes may be hard for him , he's very young can be nervous, i don't know, i just really hope it goes way.
And i'm worried with BD, a lot!! summit has to say something about it!!
Aww, love the man, adore the tongue, hate the nail... GAH!
ReplyDeleteHum... Beloved, 'Braveheart' is boring. I study cinema ~ could help you with a nice list.
Capitu, popcorn and a good movie (like the wonderful italian 'Cinema Paradiso') ~ are you in?
Muah! :x
Since I’ve known Rob would play in BA, I’ve been wondering how can he manage to do such scenes without, hmmm, being too involved. I know he’s an actor and that’s his job, but he’s 23 and those scenes are totally different from what he has played till today. I can’t imagine how he’s going to control himself, most of all his lower parts! It would be a little embarrassing for him to be noticed…God, what I would do to be one of those lucky girls!
ReplyDeleteTHUD
deep breaths, need to take deep breaths...
ReplyDeletethanks Kate!
@CL - ITA with everything
i didn't think Braveheart was particularly brilliant, and I don't like Mel Gibson--the opposite of Rob, he is an example of a star who does not really ACT. However, thinking of the themes, I can see why Rob might relate a bit to it--the desperate cry for FREEDOM!!!!! My fervent hope is Rob doesn't get drawn and quartered (actually OR figuratively) in fighting for his own.
ReplyDeleteKate--Rob has actually given mixed messages about the cab incident, over time. I think he is either trying to minimize its importance, or he is thinking of another inicident, or he has blocked out the trauma. At first, he said he was slightly grazed; then he said he walked into it when it was barely moving; then he said it was parked, etc. He also said it happened at 3 in the morning, when we actually had photos of his bodyguards and crowds in the middle of the day, with quotes of the bodyguards saying--'Look what you've done--you've almost had him killed!' We (at least I) saw photos of him in the middle of the day staring shocked at the cab as he was in front of it, in the middle of the street, not parked on the side. So since this was in the daytime, it may actually be a different situation from the one he talks about where no one was around.
ReplyDeleteConsidering his lifelong fears, one of which was actually being hit by a car, that could certainly be a trauma enough to block it out and to only think of another less scary incident, in the dark hours of early morning with a parked car.
Sweet Jesus!!!! How the hell am I suppose to concentrate at work now with this "sex like an animal" talk????????????
ReplyDeleteAre you trying to get me fired????
;)
As for the beard, Bel Ami was described as having a mustache but not a beard. I think men of that era had large sideburn whiskers as well.
ReplyDeleteI really wish they wouldn't do BD. Rob needs to free himself from that franchise and the sooner the better. Rob no longer needs Twilight to confirm him as a star.
ReplyDelete@LHR - LOL! I said the exact same thing, see above. Great minds....
ReplyDelete*Angie- 3 more weeks!!!!!!!!!!*
I wonder what movies Rob hasnt seem-Braveheart was pretty populer back then. Hmm,Rob and I should do a movie night! oh yeah -I was waitn for my computer to scroll down and of course I ran into the fridge with that photo!
ReplyDeleteWHOA! Rob shaved?! I got to run and tell my friend-she loves jaw porn Rob :) Thanks Rob!
ReplyDeleteMy son liked Bravehaert when it came out, but he was already a young teen. (Screaming for FREEDOM!!!! is so apropos for teens!!!)Rob was a little boy when Braveheart was in the theatre. Perhaps his parents thought him too young to see it. I don't know how he took to violence as a child (some cannot get enough; some get upset), the quartering scene was particularly grotesque, and there were some scenes lacking in modesty, from what I recall.
ReplyDeleteWell to twist a WW quote, Rob, you can take my freedom anytime you want. And how am I supposed to work now after reading this? How???
ReplyDeleteI have the biggest urge to go watch Braveheart now, nothing like that film for bringing out the old patriotism LOL. Given that it's 3 hours long I can't imagine spending 12 hours a day watching it, I mean it's a good film, but really...
ReplyDeleteA lot of sex you say? Well.. now I have an excuse for not having my homework ready for tomorrow. How do anyone think it's possible to think about anything else for the next year? ... *swoon*
ReplyDeleteA lot of sex you say? Well.. now I have an excuse for not having my homework ready for tomorrow. How do anyone think it's possible to think about anything else for the next year? ... *swoon*
ReplyDeleteNow that I've actually read the whole article...
ReplyDelete"There's a lot of sex scenes in this film, so I'm asking quite a lot of myself, and with lots of different people as well."
Can't. Wait. I really hope this brings a whole new audience and stops people just associating him with Twi and tweenies.
This has to be rated 15 or 18!
Gosh I cant wait for this movie to come out!!!!
ReplyDeleteJesus. That expression 'to the knuckle?' Good God! That just had my filthy little mind running straight down 'dirty street...doing the cha-cha.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm a thinkin'...
We grownup girls are going to be mighty frustruated with the sanitized BD. But we'll be more than satisfied with the romp that Bel Ami is gonna be. What am I saying? Satisfied? Satisfied? Were gonna be so horn dog horny after seeing RobRoy in all his glory, emergency rooms throughout the land will have to go on standby with trays of ice cubes at the ready to cool us down. Won't work though. As soon as the ice would hit our girly bits (well where the hell else would they be applying it?), it would just sizzle and melt. Just like him. Just like us. Him sizzling. Us melting (the little bastard)
And Solas?
About the cab incident? I've always thought that Rob changed the story because Summit didn't want the fans put off or to feel maligned in any way (got to keep those tickets sales up yanno).
We all know what happened initially because we saw the photos and the time of day, etc. It wasn't three in the morning. It wasn't a virtually empty street. And he didn't walk into no parked car. It was raining that day and thank god. Rain slows traffic down in NYC and had that cab been going even 5-10 MPH faster, he could have been seriously hurt.
I just think the evolution of this story was studio 'spin.'
Very politick, Mr. Pattinson - wee ref for the Scots. lol
ReplyDeleteRob, you are not only asking a lot of yourself, but of all your fans who have to um....survive viewing 'a lot of sex scenes.' Somehow I'm not sure you took that into account.... ;)
Kate I'm am dying over your comments!!!
ReplyDeleteOk, I think there's some true statements and false in this interview....
He hast had much time for new movies, but he did go see the lovely bones!
Braveheart? Uh yea, brilliant and probably one of the best movies.... ever... Rob has such good taste!!!
The sex scenes... this is new territory for him.... and these women are so fucking lucky to be the ones he gets to practice with!!!!
I'm not sure about the beard in BA... There isn't one in the story...
Near to the knuckle, sex as a weapon, acting like an animal? Just kill us now Rob, and put us out of our misery. Next thing you'll tell us is that the sound track is going to be 9 Inch Nails!
ReplyDeleteAll I saw was:
ReplyDeletethinks like an animal and
lot of sex with lots of different people
after that I don't remember anything...
Well I don't know if this interview is real and legit or not. And I must say that for the most part this interview seems like recycled stuff.
ReplyDeleteBut I hope the part about him loving Braveheart (this is new to me) is true! Because it is one of my favorite movies!
Yeah, this is new territory for him; the sexuality of it all and having to play that out for the cameras. And this can be a very 'uncomfortable' thing for a male actor.
ReplyDeleteSomeone asked if they get aroused shooting these kinds of scenes. Yeah, they pretty much do.
They're men. All they have to do is think about sex and well...yanno. So what would you think might happen if he's spending hours (maybe days) filming such scenes in various stages of undress with these beautiful women? Does it mean he's a hound and he's gonna nail these ladies? No, it doesn't mean that at all. But he's a man with a man's body and that body is going to react to stimulation; both physical and mental. And yes, it goes on in films all the times.
But actors have joked about it saying...when you get turned on, your co-star can get insulted AND if you don't get turned on...your co-star can get insulted. So...they can't win. Damned if they do. Damned if they don't.
The most you can hope for is, that he's developed enough of a rapport with his co-stars that they can laugh it all off at the end of the day (Amy Brenneman famously labeled David Caruso's peen 'Mr. Happy' while doing all of their bed scenes in NYPD Blue) And these are not giggly, little girls Rob is working with. These are professional actresses, all of whom are older than him, with more experience at this sort of thing than him. Especially KST (ooh lawdy...go check her out with Ralph Fiennes in The English Patient).
And remember, he's done it before. He dropped trou in LA and I would imagine doing those scenes with another man was a whole helluva lot more difficult than these scenes with three (or more) beautiful women is going to be.
He'll be fine. We'll have heart attacks in the theatre. But he'll be fine.
One other thing...
ReplyDeleteThis rehersal period they've had? This is where actors get to know one another, get comfortable with each other. And since these actors knew that they were going to be getting pretty intimate with one another, I'm thinking they took a little more time trying to get to that comfortable stage with each other. Or maybe not...
Rob said he's going at this like DeRoy is an animal. He may have actually distanced himself emotionally from his leading ladies so that he could 'take them' as an animal would.
I do not know his method as an actor, so I don't know how far he takes things. My guess is, he trys to get pretty far into the heads of the characters he's playing.
So...I don't know. Could be a very interesting experience for him. And a very challenging one would be my guess.
nik-- re summit and the cab incident--exactly. I Normally don't go in for these intrigues, where people say Summit forced them to do this or not say that, but I googled today and found that Summit changed the story as soon as they could.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reiterating what we saw; I have a near photographic memory and remember the actual photos (which, interestingly, I cannot find online now )and it was in a busy street in the middle of the day with hundreds of 'fans' and Rob's shocked face staring at the cab.
Forgive my naivete, but why would an actress be insulted if a man is physiologically turned on by her? Isn't that a compliment?
ReplyDeleteAs for acting like an animal, I remember from the book at least that it was gradual, just as Duroy's grasp of the modus operandi to get ahead was gradual. He wasn't an animal, or even a user (as in using women to get ahead), at the beginning.
LOL, Goz must be doing the happy dance! I tell you, if being with Rob meant I had to watch Braveheart 4 times a day, it would be a deal breaker. Yeah, you heard me, a definite deal breaker.
ReplyDeleteJust read through the rest of the comments, I remember when the cab incident took place, but I don't remember ever seeing, or hearing about any photos that existed. Does anybody have a link?
ReplyDeleteMarna--I remember seeing them online, perhaps as news, but not sure if it was posted here as I did not come to this site then; I don't think I started here until August. Perhaps Gozde knows where they are? Although I seem to remember a lot of stuff stolen from this site at one time.
ReplyDeleteA PIN-UP!!!!!!! LOLOLOL
ReplyDeleteThat made me think of Farrah Fawcett's poster with the nip showing........or Jane Mansfield and Marilyn Monroe pin up pictures.
Oh yes, the objectification of a man for once in the world. Women have suffered it for years and now ........ turnabout it fair play!
