LOL! and I love this particular photo shoot as it shows him as 'American Rob'. as opposed to british Rob at the BAFTAS. See? Our guy is a chameleon! I love that about actors how they can be comfortable with their personal form changing with each role and BAFTA Rob is definitely Bel Ami Robert! I'm reading the book right now and so far there ain't been no luvin'. Or I'm just missing the inuendo of it as it's written in the old way things are said as such...this is at one of the first dinner parties he attended at his friend Forestier's house after work one day I assume, it's kind of hard to keep track of the days and weeks and months in this writing...is almost very french and somewhat british in its' telling...'They spoke at first of a current scandal and then they began to talk of love. Without admitting it to be eternal, Duroy understood it as enduring, creating a bond, a tender friendship, a confidence. The union of the senses was only a seal to the union of hearts.' and then a little later in the narration, 'Duroy resumed: "For my part, when I love a woman, everything else in the world disappears." and it goes on like that as if the translator was giving a very loose interpretation of the french into english. Sometimes there is no english for the french meaning or emotion and the translation is how they say, lost. So far nothing nc-17 in the novelization...now I understand Hollywood will take it further but how much I'm wondering...because if translated properly, I'm sure we will know the meaning behind all the phrases such as, '...and I made it up to Rachel the next days luncheon.' or 'Rachel was waiting and pacing furiously up and down the outer aisle seats to which I looked elsewhere.' Duroy stood her up and then showed up with madame marelle in the theatre. I guess that would be Christina Ricci as rachel and who is playing madame maralle? is that Kristen Scott Thomas or Uma Thurman? Duroy seems to be close and falling in love with Madame Maralle...to which he later tells her he is infatuated with her but she rebukes his advances saying she is bored with suitors saying they are in love with her and she immediately turns them away and never has anything to do with them again. Duroy pushes his luck after hearing her say this and says, 'I shall make the lists then when you become a widow?' In other words I took it to mean he was asking her, but you'de consider me wouldn't you? even after she made it perfectly clear she would not. Not anyone would get to her like that again. so this is gonna be good on screen with Robert and his charm and guile. He is just ripping this script up one side and down the other. You know our boy is loving every minute he can utter these phrases! I have a feeling he's a closet shakespearean also. I just feel it. I would love to see him in a screen version of all the great shakespeare plays like 'Taming of The Shrew' and 'Hamlet'...ooooo he would paint hollywood a new color! whaddya think ladies what would be your favorite shakespearean Rob?

I don't think Christina Ricci is playing Rachel. I do not know who is. Ricci is playing madamme (Clothilde) Marelle.
Uma Thurman plays Madamme Foresterre, and KST plays Madame walter.
I am not sure I would like Rob to re-ignite Shakespeare, although it was lovely hearing himself in New Moon. I do like period pieces, historical and/or romance, especially of 18th and 19th century, and would love to see him in such, although after doing BelAmi, perhaps he would not want to be pidgeon-holed, at least for a while.
@Solas: I thought Natalie (Tonks in HP) has been confirmed as Rachel. Last I heard...
I am looking forward to so much about this film from the direction and acting to the art design and 'look' of the piece - hope it all meshes together....

Plus, ditto everyone who said he looked gorgeous, as usual. Heck, the floppy hair was even starting to grow on me after I saw the videos and photos. (But at the London NM fan event Rob was still more hunky. I said hunky, -hah.)
Clean-shaven, young Rob.Nothing at all to hide the chin and jaw. Mmm.
Oh, and I know why I prefer the whipped up, spikey hair. His chin and jaw line is so strong and his forehead so perfect that we need the hair off and up to off set the strength of the bottom half of his face. Plus, his nose is also strong, which is good, but it tends to look a bit too long when the hair flops in his face.
You can tell, I have studied this. A lot.

And yeah , solas it is seemingly implied as I guess the times would be difficult if not down right against the law to write of trysts in novel form? maybe it wasn't done...but at any rate I do like the story and how he finds it more and more difficult to get along in the world. Every time he is given a chance to make more money, something or someone comes along and tells him, he is not good enough for it or tries to take it away from him after he's gotten ahead fair and square. O' course there is that time when he is appointed to his new position on the paper and after delegating the work to be done in the office that day, he retreats to his office for a game of cup and ball...the childs game where you fling the ball in the cup that's attached by the string? he said something about everyone playing and so far he did it like 23 times in a row? beating the record? I thought that was indeed funny and so telling of the times.
@solas oh yeah, Shakespeare Rob, and Byron Rob...was reading a little about Byron a few weeks back and no wonder people like his work so well...he was the rock star for his day...seemed like more than what/who he actually was...but inspiring? YES! Just like Rob is to us now. I would love to see him in these roles dare I say it? just to see him the billowy poets shirt with the ties dangling? love a man in that shirt. Martin Short made it look sexy in Merlin whaddya think Rob can do for it in these pieces? Can't even begin to think my mind is racing so quickly! Just remember all you women who actually have the physical prescence of your men right there with you...it's easier for you to get thru these feelings than those of us who have loved so intensely those whom we thought would always be ours, only to have the game plan change at the final minutes and no one bothered to tell us the plays! yeah, still hurts a lot and loving Rob is helping me to vent and to heal...I've said it before, he is healing the world one divorce' at a time! Love you Robert, you're the healing salve to my ruptured, torn a sunder, heart. ;)

And I think Rob would make a GREAT Hamlet. I loved his 'Romeo' in NM. We just got a glimpse, but it was enough to make me see that he could do Shakespeare.
I never could. Could never get my tongue wrapped around it. Well that's not true. I can certainly recite Shakespeare. But I cannot recite and act it at the same time. I've tried and it felt like my brain was splitting in two. I love it though.

And to think, last year on my birthday I got OscarRob, and this year on the day before my birthday I got BaftaRob. He gives the best presents, don't you think? :-)
