Robert Pattinson has Legitimate Acting Ability

Well we knew this already but finally other people are starting to recognise this and it makes me SO excited!

This is a really promising article and so far people seem to be really enjoying "Remember Me".

From Moviehole.com

Saw "Twilight" heartthrob Robert Pattinson's new movie, "Remember Me" yesterday. Didn't quite know what to expect - though the apt support cast (Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper in particular), and Allen Coulter's ("Hollywood") anointment as director, indicated that it might be something less mush and more meat. And that's exactly what it was. It's Pattinson riding in Coach, as opposed to First Class (the smooth, trouble-free ride that offers a prettier, but not always stunning, view), and you know what? I think he proves his worth here. He's actually pretty bloody good. And nothing against the film adaptations of the Nicholas Sparks' novels (in fact, I've enjoyed every one of those bar "NIghts in Rodanthe", which sucked worse than a toothy hooker in a butcher's strike) but I sure as hell believed the romance at the center of this pic - between Pattinson and co-star Emilie de Ravin ("Lost") - a lot more than the slightly manipulative passionate plays of say, "The Notebook" or "Dear John", "Remember Me" just plays a lot realer. I'll review the flick down the track, but for the moment, let me just say I'm truly convinced at least one of the "Twilight" 'hunks' (that's what you gals call 'em, right?) has some legitimate acting ability.

Skipped -Talks about Taylor

(It's funny that Lautner seems to be taking the 'Blockbuster' route, whereas Pattinson seems to be following the substance-over-style indy flicks).

  1. These reviewers should see The Haunted Airman and Bad Mothers's Handbook as well and they would know that Rob CAN act. These positive reviews for Rob and RM cast too and the movie makes my heart sing though! Way to go Rob and co!

  2. i'm so pride of my baby!!!
Ppl have to see more than beauty on him, he really can act, he's so talented and seeing ppl realise that makes me so happy :DD

LOOK another review ~> "Can't believe a Robert Pattinson flick - Remember Me - is one of the best films I've seen in months. Really good stuff. Very impressed with Robert Pattinson's performance, but also the chemistry he and Emilie de Ravin had. End takes the wind out of you too" [via @ClintMoviehole]

SO HAPPY !! CANT WAIT FOR R.M.

  3. Never doubted substance, quality has always been there @Maryann [totally agree].

So cos he is drop dead gorg they make the assumption he can't act - don't judge a book by its cover is what I say.

At robsessed we always had the faith!!! Just looking forward to the rest catching up lol

  4. That's the same guy that wrote this! I'll put up his review as soon as he puts it up! ;-)

  5. delighted.... really delighted....!!!!!!!
even if I had NO doubt about Rob's skills... I'm glad pple recognize it... ^^
    Go Rob... Go...!

    ReplyDelete
  6. But we knew that already, didn't we?
So pleased for him, he should get recognition for being so much more than a (very) pretty face. But, mmm - what a pretty face.

  7. Rob will do changing the opinions of the critics.
REMEMBER ME will open doors to Rob for the future.
I love the way that Kristen and him want to do for their carreers, they approach it with good senses.
The more easy is doing commercial movies but both choose independents movies who will allows them show thir talents step by step.
Of course sometimes it´s good doing commercials movies, especially for the studios, but no everything.
I can´t wait to see ECLIPE and BREAKING DOWN but too I want them to finish with this franchise because after that it will be interest to see how they´ll handle, choosing script and I sure that Rob too.
Go on by this way Rob, I´m very proud of you!!!

  8. I am glad if he is getting his due for his acting in this film. I personally thought that his performances in Twilight and New Moon were fantastic. Anyone who can take a vampire role and make it believable and sympathetic without making it campy and turning Edward into a caricature is a damn good actor in my book. So, I am not surprised that people who dismissed Twilight as a teen movie are impressed.

  9. Thanks Kate! I agree that Rob does "have it." His eyes are amazing and he can convey such a depth of emotion through them. I'm proud too! Thanks for sharing!

  10. Exactly Catwoman...Rob is so much more than a pretty face and much more that all significate Twilight franchise.

REMEMBER ME will be like a before and after in his carrer I think especially for the profesionals not for us because we know the Rob´s capacity for his roles.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree that these reviewers should see Haunted Airman and Little Ashes to see how well Rob can act..so proud of Rob...people recognizing his real talent makes my heart sing too!!!
Thank GOD the lautner bits were removed hehehehehe

  12. ah ok Kate :]
i just want to say one more thing: i LOVE so much this site, and the girls here. The posts are great and the coments really sweet, it's nice see ppl that love Rob like i do. You all make me come back here ♥

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sharig, I love too the Rob´s performance in the TWILIGHT franchise, he´s amazing in the role, but I fed up with certains profesionals who think TWILIGHT is a suck and easy movies, I think they are jealous of the hit in the world.

it was the same thing before with Leonardi DiCaprio, he was the Titanic boy for the movies industries, only that, but step by step now he´s a big star and very respect like Rob will be in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Of course he's pretty bloody good lol! I'm glad some people outside "our bubble" can eventually see it! I hope this movie becomes very successful!

  15. @maaahtwi4ever Awww thanks that's really sweet. So glad you like the site!
Ya this Clint guy really seems to like the movie so I'm looking forward to seeing his review.

Oh FYI before i forget anyone wanting to stay spoiler free do not look at Perez's site.

  16. something I always knew fromhis days of HP and the behind the scenes footage of him in a day of the life of kind of thing. I couldn't really understand who this cute person was...was he the actor or the set coordinator who shows people around? was he the exec. prd's kid goofing around with the camera people? He really showed a type of taking the lead kind of personality like he was used to being the class validictorian or something....showed his personal style and ability when that dvd bonus featurette came out and they chose him to do it instead of one of the principals...maybe they did I've only ever seen the one with Robert sleeping with his head on the table and then he shows 'us' around the set and tellls us about his call sheet and shows us his dressing room and acts like it's all so normal to be there on a giant blockbuster movie set and all and didn't act like a prima donna or anything...took it to be a business and not something he could take for granted or advantage of in a bad way. I got the feeling he had really been 'trained' for that kind of life from a very early age. But then we knew that about our boy didn't we...he makes us feel as if we're sharing in his parents joy doesn't he? What a great kid he is . His parents must really be proud of him.

    ReplyDelete
  17. oh and one more thought...he's gotten me to realize I'm more than what I always thought. That I'm much more than just Lisa the cosmetologist, or Lisa the Mom. I'm a person with depth and character and I should plumb that out to the world as well as cultivate my good mom characteristics. He's gotten me to believe in myself as a person again. I don't know why either I guess because he had me at whatever the first word he spoke in HP was. I just couldn't take my eyes off him and have since gotten back all of that which I ever thought I was or could be when I was his age and I'd put it aside thinking it was useless to dream or silly to think that way. I've started writing again and playing the guitar and it's because I watched so many of his interviews on YouTube and started to really think about my life and where I'm at now and where I was when I was his age and the way I thought about things. There were a lot of similarities and it's not silly to follow your dreams. It's just not and it's good for a person to cultivate more of their depth. It just makes you a better more well rounded person in the world. And that is what he's done for me. Whether you know it or not Robert. You're changing the world one woman at a time. LOL! And bringing a lot of us back to life. Thank you Robert you're one in a million men. I wish all men could project your depth and your ability to make us feel like we belong and are worth something.

  18. YES, our Robalicious *can* act. I don't quite understand why so many folks appear amazed at this fact!

He's simply astounding in "Little Ashes" and had it received the wide release it deserved, more people would be aware of his incredible performance.

As for his on-going portrayal of the One & Only Edward...I think he shows a great deal of talent bringing a 107 year old Vampire to Life. It may not be Oscar worthy but some of the greatest actors of our time have never even been nominated for their talented performances. Doesn't make them any less skilled just means they don't have a little statue to display.

    Happy Saturday, Everybody!

  19. I've never doubted his ability to act. Glad to see others not attached to Twilight are starting to see it as well.
I'm also glad that Rob is more selective of the material he choices to work on.
Because blockbusters may bring in the cash but they often don't garner much in the way of critical acclaim or serious awards.

    ReplyDelete
  20. WE all know that Rob can act and it's about time that the world is sitting up and taking some notice. About time is that I can say! All most people know him for is Twilight and HP, they should indeed check out his other films. That goes for so called researchers too. OK rant over.
I'm looking forward to seeing RM so much and I love the picture shown here - one of my favs. Must lick and stick that one!

  21. Hello Lovelies! :)

I've been dreaming THE video the whole night! :D
We should send it to the Bond producers and get him a role! :DDDD
Maybe we should demonstrate and sign the petition, we need him as Bond!!! :DDDDDD

"Robert Pattinson has legitimate acting ability and is the NEXT JAMES BOND!" ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Rob's fans always knew he had substance. Rob's fans always knew he penetrates the soul with one, intense look from his beautiful eyes. Rob's fans always knew the man is a born actor. In addition to his skill and beauty, he is intelligent, witty, and has soul. Perhaps now the critics will begin to catch up with what we already knew. Gazillions of women can never be wrong. We are the most scrutinizing, naughty bitches of all time. We've picked a winner and we're in for the long haul.

    FILTM!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi Fae, the only problem with that is it's been so long since the words 'legitimate acting ability' and 'James Bond' have appeared in the same sentence without heavy doses of sarcasm. Thank Daniel Craig for makng the role more heavyweight again, whatever you think of him personally. I'd give Rob a few more years before adding another yoke of fame to his neck.

Hey Dessert, you up already too? I can't wait for RM opening either, but looks like we'll have to anyway.

Way to go, though, with one positive review so early. Sorry if I seem cranky this morning, it was a late night for me. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Lemonless it was a late night to all of us! :)
Maybe you're right, not yet, but I want him to do it! (oh what a sentence lol, and it's so early! ;D)
Yes thank Daniel for giving Bond the character he is! He's a great Bond! :D

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Fae: I went with a friend whose judgement I can usually trust to see Casino Royale and she just didn't see what I saw. So I don't know if it's just me who sees the subtleties, whether they're even there, or whether I'm kidding myself big time. I think that he's beefed up the franchise in more than just the obvious way, which is what would make me nervous for Rob to do it, yet.

As he said in THAT magazine article, he's giving himself ten years at least before he'll even consider that he's capable of doing good work. OK, we all on here disagree with our self deprecating sweetie on that one, but he knows that the rest of the world is a tad less forgiving.

Kudos to him for such maturity, particularly in a profession that loves confidence like it loves gossip.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @fae yeah Craig is a great actor and gave Bond back what it was missing for so long...and may have opened the door for our guy to step in to it one day...yeah agreed he's prolly not ready to takeon that role yet needs more real life although I don't know how much more real life he could get! LOL! He's pretty out there in terms of getting around the world. but a friend at work, who is a published author, said the same thing...yeah, he would be a good Bond but give him a few more years to age progress a little more. And wouldn't Pierce be proud of him if he were to do that?! sqeeeee* God think how cool it would be to see Pierce show up at his premiere with his wife and kids in tow to see Rob's debut as the new Bond! Win, Win! Pierce and Rob together again at the same theatre! Wow! future event! Just know it! I keep seeing him next to that silver astin martin and talking to into his cuff link or something gadgety! And he and John Cleese together on screen? How cool I've always loved Bond soooo much. Not many little girls found it exciting enough to play act Bond all the time. I was always a Bond girl when the other kids would pretend to be Bond or a bond-bad guy. And Robert as Bond? oooooo give me a fan girl squeeeee ladies!

Okay who would play his Bond girl? And there has to be a Bond BAD girl too. who? anyone? anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Imjabara: You just said it! I've been wondering about this for myself, and the thing about this guy is that he makes me want to be a better person...

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Lemonless I agree, he's now a young James Bond, but he has to age a little bit more to take that part, he should be in his early thirties!

@Imjabara I agree with you too! :) I can totally see him on the right side of that Aston Martin!
He's got everything for Bond! But a few yours from now...

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Imjabara, I love your passion, but in the interest of clarity, and so that we can see what you're saying, please can you use paragraphs?

It's so much easier to listen to someone who takes regular breaths, so it's so much easier to read someone who makes eye breaks.

And I'll put my hand up for evil Bond lady, in the hope that he'll have to subdue me!

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Lemonless and me with you! Let's be the bad girls! ;D

    ReplyDelete
  31. oh wow!congrats rob!!he'll become better and better for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Smart people never doubted about the acting habilities of Rob. Only people who fear that he is gonna have a more successful career than their favorite actors and actresses. Some people think that because he is always spontaneous, happy, smiling, funny, beautiful and not speak philosophical phrases he is not serious, intelligent, responsible and talented. He is, he always was. Rob is charismatic, and the best actor of his generation.

    I love you Robert Pattinson!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks, Kate.
SO glad reviews are positive. To any doubters: Oh, ye of little faith!!! Rob has always had "it". Acting in Twilight/NM should not be discredited because of immense popularity of series. Rob rocked Edward. RM will AGAIN, showcase Rob's multi talented acting abilities. Can't wait for March.

  34. ...I'm soo proud of Rob, we know he's good at what he does.
    Love Rob

    ReplyDelete
  35. Critics are slow to catch on ...we already know the man has serious acting ability..... DUH! But they are catching on & that's what is important!

I really wish before many critics knocked his acting abilities in twilight they would read the books as they would see that Rob NAILED Edward...

Just a few more days and we get to see all the TV appreances!!!

  36. @Fae: what colour costumes? Masks? High heels or boots? so many choices!

  37. Hi RPG! So looking forward to the appearances, but as we don't get the shows over here, any indication of what times we can expect the clips to start appearing here?

Maybe I should ask the Mods (oops).

    ReplyDelete
  38. @lemonless - sorry! It's so much easier to listen to someone who takes regular breaths, so it's so much easier to read someone who makes eye breaks.

And I'll put my hand up for evil Bond lady, in the hope that he'll have to subdue me! '

Yeah! me too lemonless! Subdue me Robert, I need to be taken in hand! LOL! I'm E-ville...

and you know those girls are always up for the dom/sub thing! can't ya just see her flippin' him with the leg hitch thing? straddlin' the saddle? whooooo hooo!
How's that for a break lemonless?
My bid for the bad Bond girl? Angelina Jolie! Totally! Older than him and she knoooooowwwws things! ha!

Good bond girl would have to be younger and less experienced in the world so he could whip out the domward on her! whoo hoo MoTU Bond with the younger bond good girl? N'est Pas? *rubs hands together excitedly, anticipation is killing me with this imagining* !!!!!

  39. Hey Kate,
there's new photos of Rob backstage @ the Baftas on RPlife....

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi Lemonless,

We'll start seeing them pretty soon after he appears... They'll be all over YouTube & then here very quickly!

I need to make sure my dvr is set right so I don't miss any of them... I'll either be atcwork or asleep when he's on all of them!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wow, Imjabara, paragraphs certainly bring you out of your shell! Way to go, girl!

I love the thought of Angelina Jolie being a bad Bond girl opposite DC (she worked with him before in Tomb Raider), but I think she'd break poor Rob into tiny little pieces!

Good Bond girl... now there's a puzzler. She'd need to have a bit of attitude, I can't stand weak and wimpy ones that fall over as soon as Bond walks in the room. Michelle Yeoh (am I right?) was good with PB.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hi everyone!

I'm in and out of RL at the moment but I can't help thinking that you're trying to tip me over the edge with all the Bond talk...
Yeah that's right you know who you are....

    ReplyDelete
  43. *wide eyes* Whoa, Dessert, do you like Bond Rob AS WELL as BAFTA Rob? Wow! *smirk*

and thanks, RPG, gosh darn it, I suppose that means I'm going to have to keep an eye on ROBsessed, then on Monday and Tuesday. I'm sure that's not the reason my boss gave me a Blackberry, but I won't tell if my history log doesn't!

    ReplyDelete
  44. @lemonless-first of all thanks! and ...but I think she'd break poor Rob into tiny little pieces!'

No she wouldn't! Angie's all woman and I have a sneakin' hunch she got an eye full when she and Brad spoke to him at Cannes and Brad was heard to say to go to the certain hotel if he wanted privacy because that's where he and Angie always go...? I think she started the ole wheels turning then and is prolly thinking about ...stuff.!!!

She would be just like the rest of us when he finally turned on the charm/acting ability with her in a scene. director yells, *ACTION* and he turns and LOOKS at her and shes there! in the moment and she just melts when he approaches her and grabs her wrist or around her waist and pulls her into his embrace! oooooo...is it shower time already? for me I mean. and it's gonna have to be a cold one!

    Bond Rob...Bond Rob....Bond Rob...astin martin...

ohh! and around the time of his 27th B-Day ladies lets get that petition going shall we? Lets submit to Nick and Steph and see if our lovely isn't interested in signing on and before that submit to the Brocoli people to see what their thoughts are on the subject...can we do that?

Has there ever been a fan induced project like this that came to fruition? in a positive light? where they wanted a certain favorite actor to do something of this magnitude?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lemonless: me me me me me me
I'm a good girl if I need to be ....
and you know he gets the good girl in the end.
    * big grin as she walks back to sorting out the car*

    ReplyDelete
  46. Dessert honey, if I was making the movie you'd be my first choice!

@ Imjabara: A petition would certainly bring him to their attention, but I have four words of caution: Snakes on a Plane! The fans were crazy for him to do it but I think Samuel L Jackson probably regrets it now.

A whole different ballgame to Bond, Wonky Bond, mind you!

    ReplyDelete
  47. @lemonless-
Wonky legs...*yummy* wonky legs, wonky legs! god I love me some wonky legged Robbie P. as Bond...think stance at Oscars wide legged and allll the waaaayyyy up that rockin' hot bod!

Just sooooo....sooooo...Wonky Wonderful to behold...I'm beholdin'. Ohhh i'm beholdin'. God this man is hot! And he just keeps gettin' better and better...and what's more I think he surprises himself sometimes...the looks he gets on his face?! LOL@wonky Rob!

Sometimes he seems to not realize his own affect on the public in general...where reactions are concerned. but where he KNOWS he's being professional ...he seems to be right at home with the knowing his job thing...amazing guy. Just amazing.

  50. Dessert! Oh, Dessert! Have you seen the most recent post? I think you might like it. I may be wrong, but I thought I'd say it anyway.

Imjabara: That red carpet pic when his legs are straddled is the only one where he doesn't look wonky!

And do you know what I miss the most? Badly buttoned Rob. Now there's a campaign I'd join in a heartbeat:

    BRING BACK THE BUTTONS!

  51. @Dessert oh I love you and I don't want to kill you! :D :*

@Lemonless high heels pumps, black suit with white blouse, hair tied, but down when in action! ;)
And for the evening long black dresses, bare back or tube dress ha ha????
or the tough ones with boots and bombs???
I already feel sorry for him, he'll have to hide it the whole movie! LOL!

  53. @Lemonless Yes, sure! And can I have a shiny black pistol and a silk tie??? ;D

    ReplyDelete
  54. And I couldn't resist to change my name!
    You know my name! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  55. @Fae: Of course you can have a shiny pistol and a black tie. Or a black pistol and a shiny tie. Or a shiny tie wrapped round your black pistol. Er- I think I beat that one to death, didn't I?

Do you think Dessert First has lost the power of speech over the new BAFTA pics?

    ReplyDelete
  56. just had a quick scan give me a minute....

    ReplyDelete
  57. @Lemonless LOL licence to frill! :D
ok, so a black tie wrapped around Bond's hands and a shiny pistol it is! Remember our mission is to kill him, we have to keep that in mind! LOL!

I think Dessert is somewhere drinking water with sugar! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Fae007 (oops, forgot your moniker before, how careless of me, Miss Frills) the thought of a black silk tie round his hands = win. Or a black silk stocking? He'd have to undo it with his teeth.

    ReplyDelete
  59. @Dessert: want me to fan you sweetie? come over by the window and take a few deep breaths. Better now?

    ReplyDelete
  60. @Lemonless LOL! Oh poor James, scared to death, knowing he doesn't have a chance! :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. If i miss out anyone or get it wrong I'm soory in advance but there is alot of Bond to take in.

Fae007: Good name! Petition.. where do I sign? I'm not normaly a 007 fan but if sexy Rob was in it, I'm there!
I'd fight you to the death but don't forget it's oly acting - you'd get a big hug after.

Lemonless: I got up at 10.30 so not so bad. I started to get sleepy last night about 3.30am and had to sign off. April 2dn is along time to wait - not fare!
Haven't seen any clips of RM on uk tv either.

    Fae, Lemonless, Imjabara.
If you're the evil bond girls I'll take you on. I know abit of self defence!LOL!

    rpattzgirl:
Finally getting back to the point -
Critics knock Robs Edward but yes if they bothered to read the books they would understand his acting more. He does alot of "faces" because he's constantly thinking and takes the human world so seriously.

If i missed anything ask again. I hope you still all there!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. @Dessert oh we're on a mission to kill you too!
Don't you see we already started?! ;D

    ReplyDelete
  63. Fae: yeah I get that killing me slowly is very Bond bad girl!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm dodging madly between threads again. I'll be glad to be out of posting reach this evening for the r&r!

Dessert: I haven't been watching tv at all because I haven't left this site in what seems like weeks. Not that I would, if I could; it's so much fun, here. So I haven't seen whether there are any trailers or not.

Somehow I doubt there will be any because it won't have the advertising budget that the Saga has earned, and it's supposed to be an off the wall [;-)Wens] indie-style sleeper. Pity for us, though.

    ReplyDelete
  65. @Dessert I'm glad you realize that! :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Lemonless: go back up and I'll meet you there. BAFTA Rob *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  67. When you said Lautner seems to be taking the blockbuster route while Pattinson more films with substance - it reminded me of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon after Good Will Hunting.......someone just went for really silly roles and the other became an excellent actor.

    ReplyDelete
  68. lmjabara, you hit it right on the head!

Rob Pattinson: breathing fresh life into the world, one woman at a time!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Well I'm glad that the movie is getting good reviews, however we all already knew that Robert can act, and those who didn't admit it before, I feel that they simply didn't do so because they didn't want to give him credit for perfectly playing a character (Edward) that really REALLY appeals to females.

And while I was very excited for RM, I now know how it's going to end, yesterday I was spoiled about that *sobs*, and now I don't know how I feel about the movie. I mean it's theme is "live in the moments" and the scenes seem really good and intense and tender/romantic. It seemed like a really good romance movie, but why oh WHY did they have to give it a sad ending, and a shocking one at that? What is this need with wanting to shock people?

I am glad that I know the ending now, at least if I still want to see it in theaters I will be prepared. But I'm just sad that we can't just have a gritty/tender/intense romance/drama with a happy ending for a change!

  70. ladies back to the Bond thing? think this....

'oooouhhhhhhh...uhhhh...ooooo JAMES!' You know there has to be a Bond girl that opens the film ? Remember? there is always a Bond girl opening the film as in the last one he just left...that would be me! OHHHHhhhhhuuhhhh James! as in what did he just do to her?!!!!! Then Rob/Bond makes some kind of high/tech/really-sexy getaway that leaves the girl, (me), all breathless and looking after him as he departs...oooooo this is just writing itself isn't it? discuss...

  71. Boy, I feel left out too. I need to go back and read through everything this morning I guess.

  74. Me too I'd love to see Rob playing as 007; he's charismatic and everything; perfect role for him and I'm not even into James Bond movies lol (I think I've watched a couple of them though).
But Rob would def be perfect in it too.
