We heard rumblings of this last week... but it looks to be confirmed. Holly Grainger (Charlie in The Bad Mother's Handbook) will be joining Rob once again for Bel Ami. Let the rumours begin!
BelAmiFilm.com has received confirmation that Holliday (Holly Grainger) has indeed been cast as Suzanne as we first reported last week.
Robert Pattinson fans will recall Holliday (Holly) Grainger from The Bad Mother’s Handbook, she starred opposite him in 2007 as pregnant teen Charlie Cooper. We are very excited about this addition to the cast. As we reported before:
In the script, the character of Suzanne is Mme Rousset (Kristin Scott-Thomas) and Rousset’s (Colm Meaney) young daughter and is pivotal to the story. Young Suzanne Rousset is closely involved with Robert Pattinson’s character of Georges Duroy in Bel Ami.

I think she fits the part :)!
ReplyDeleteThis film is becoming more and more interesting... I really can't wait to see it!!! :D
I think she's perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love this casting. She is precious. Very likeable.
ReplyDeletethat's great! she looks like the Suzanne I had in my head while reading the book :-)
ReplyDeletecan't wait for this one!
FILTM!
I didn't know that Colm Meany is in this. He's one of my favorite character actors. My oh my. This is turning into one amazing cast. And they've changed the family's last name from Walters. I wonder why? Doesn't matter.
ReplyDeleteI've only seen this girl in BMHB and she seemed pretty good. 'Course she played an early 21st century girl from the working class and now she'll be playing a proper 19th century girl from the heights of society.
Interesting though...
When they first worked together, she was the lead and he was in the supporting role. And now just a few short years later, she's the supporting and he's become an international movie star.
Funny world.
WOW RPG - you called it!!! Clairvoyant???
ReplyDeleteSqueee, just got BMH today (long story). Need to watch! ; )
ReplyDeleteHolly's proved to be a fine actress. She brought out the best of Robiel in BMH... she's the perfect supportive partner for Bel Ami.
ReplyDeleteThat's one fine gaggle of lovely and talented ladies you've got around you Rob... Do 'em proud!
NBs et al: go back and peak at Details shoot thread and tell me if I'm edgy for nothing?
Femroc,
ReplyDeleteno sweets, I read it on Twitter!
...and by the way: Rob's little finger must still be illegal in some states. J/s
ReplyDeleteThis is the one performance of Rob's that I have not seen and would like to see. It is nice he will have someone familiar to work with in this movie. How long to they expect filming to take? Has it started yet? Does anyone know?
ReplyDeleteplease vote for Rob!!!
ReplyDeletehottest male!!
http://www.nme.com/rate/hottestmale2010/97
Loisada, you're edgy for nothing! NB Gwen here; it's just a freaking photo shoot! Not XXX porn. And even if it was, he's still Rob. He's an actor, a fine one by our definition. Naked chicks notwithstanding.
ReplyDeleteBig perspective, Rob could, literally, have anyone on this planet if he so desired. Does he hound after every chick he meets? Uh, no. Just the same ONE he's known for a couple of years. I think the models will have fun, Rob will look FANTABULOUSLY FREAKING HOT and we will spend oodles of money on those same photos. Life is good.
Lucky bitch. :)
ReplyDeleteServer crashed. Couldn't take Rob's fans.
ReplyDeleteHere we go again.
Hopefully, this movie will be rated R and keep the tweens and screaming out so the rest of us obsessed fans can enjoy it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteSarah, B-R! Your avi, you are so pretty!!! We were just talking last week about having an un-masquerade avi thread. (Gwen has been hunting for a suitable self-portrait...)
ReplyDelete; )
Sharon...
ReplyDeleteI believe shooting begins on the
15th and I would guess with an 8 to 10 week shooting schedule (just a guess), he should wrap it by mid/late April.
Nancy...
ReplyDeleteWith the story content, I cannot imagine this not being an R.
Remember too, they're making this in Europe with an almost entirely European cast (meaning, it's essentially a European film) and they aren't as inhibited as Americans are when it comes to depicting sexuality on screen. And no, Ms. Ricci is not European, but amongst American actresses, she's as cutting edge as they come.
This is gonna be a romp and it's gonna be an R rated film. I wouldn't even be surprised if they do an NC-17 version for European audiences and possibly for release on DVD in America.
@nik thanks for that. I do realize this is a Euro film and US ratings don't apply. But sexy movie Rob, oh my heart, can it keep beating. ????
ReplyDeleteI hope he's clean shaven. Really don't mind a stache, but beard, puleeze. Need jaw porn and great hair. (have had a few glasses of wine today) hehehe
@Gwen, I'm game. Old photo but willing to show, but only if the others do it. hehehe
ReplyDeleteDo we need a new thread on RPG's site again? I'd love to meet everyone on this board somewhere, but don't think it will happen.
Have a drink, discuss Rob and watch movies together just like in high school. Oh MY. Did I really say that?
Actually, Nancy, that's a great idea! We should ask RPG to host that thread! ; ) Kick back some rockin' 80's tunes, uncork a bottle of red---we could pop in Twi all at the same time and do a play-by (although, I think that some just did that here recently---I was out that night).
ReplyDeleteI'll shoot her an email! ; ) Still have to find a pix that isn't totally embarrassing...
Oh... I love this casting.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny.. saw that movie just two days ago.. but yeah, I like this casting as well.. am getting more and more excited for this film. Wow.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I don't understand something. I've read the book, and in the book Virginie's and Suzane's family name is Walter. Why did they change their name to Rousset?
ReplyDeleteDon't know why they changed the name, but they did. Doesn't matter as it has no bearing on the story whatever their name is. Maybe they just wanted something more french sounding. Only reason that makes sense to me.
ReplyDeleteNow then...
All they need to do is cast Rachel the hooker and were good to go. Wonder if they're even going to keep that character or give her enough screen time to warrant casting a name actress to play her?
@RPG I love you girl. Just like that out of the blue.
ReplyDeleteI like Colm Meaney a lot. Great cast indeed.
ReplyDeleteSweet! BMH very moving storyline. Holly was perfectly cast and I think would be an asset to BA. Can't wait for all these new Rob adventures. It's coming our way soon and we damn well need to get ourselves ready!! What a year it's gonna be! The Chinese Year of Rob!!
ReplyDeleteFILTM
That's cool news if it is true. They were both good in BMH and are prob friends too. I wonder if Rob had any say in her casting? Interesting.....
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to seeing what Rob makes of his character in Bel Ami...hehe
Continued twits to last ROBsessed post Bel Ami music by www.twitter.com/benparkermusic, 31 January/1 February:
ReplyDelete~ @hduval this week has been the big tweet week (tweek?). It seems my Rob Pattinson #BelAmi connection is enough to get a man everywere
~ @EyesofAmberBlog i've not got to the 'getting presents from RP' stage yet ;-)
~ Feb/March - i'm not sire if they'll need me on set. of course I'm going to insist ;-)
~ Hello all you #BelAmi folk. if you're new and wondering who the HECK you think i am check http://bit.ly/cDkkpo
~ @QueenAliParker ahh, your music recs. will be checked. i didn't know RP sang either! [reply on @QueenAliParker: PS...I think he's a great singer too from what I've heard. So, you are a voice coach? I used to do that about 10 yrs ago]
That's good news and how our World is so little lol. I also think Holly will fit perfectly Suzanne Character.
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning I was a bit mixed up when I spot the name of Rousset but yeah I guess they've picked up that one instead of Mrs Walter. So Suzanne is one of the 2 daughters of Mme Rousset who is very close to Georges. And at the end, Georges marries her while Mme Rousset is about to pass out about that news cos she's madly deeply in love with Georges, right?
Rob's character Georges/Bel Ami at the end married young Suzanne, as described in book:
ReplyDeleteIt was Suzanne Walter Georges thought: "If my position had been made, I would have married her. Why did I never think of it? How could I have taken the other one? What folly! One always acts too hastily—one never reflects sufficiently." And longing, bitter longing possessed him, corrupting all his pleasure, rendering life odious. ... It seemed to him that an invisible power was impelling him on. He would become one of the masters of the country—he, the son of the poor peasants of Canteleu ... [At church wedding with Suzanne] He walked along slowly, with a firm step, his head erect. He saw no one. He only thought of himself. When they reached the threshold he saw a crowd gathered outside, come to gaze at him, Georges du Roy. The people of Paris envied him. ... Leisurely they descended the steps between two rows of spectators, but Georges did not see them; his thoughts had returned to the past, and before his eyes, dazzled by the bright sunlight, floated the image of Mme. de Marelle, rearranging the curly locks upon her temples before the mirror in their apartments. ~The End~
Georges/Baron du Roy de Cantel relationship with Suzanne's mother Virginie & father Mr. Walter:
ReplyDelete"VIRGINIE." For six weeks he had ineffectually tried to break with Mme. Walter. At three successive meetings she had been a prey to remorse, and had overwhelmed her lover with reproaches. Angered by those scenes and already weary of the dramatic woman, he had simply avoided her, hoping that the affair would end in that way.
In short he soon became a remarkable reporter, of great value to the paper, so M. Walter said. ..."La Vie Francaise" announced that Baron du Roy de Cantel had become its chief editor, M. Walter reserving the title of manager. But he threatened the old man with shocking revelations. Walter remembered Laroche-Mathieu's fate and yielded at once; but his wife, obstinate like all women, vowed that she would never address a word to her son-in-law.
lets the "fauxmance" begin..I think it will start with Christina Ricci...then probably Holly and Uma!! Yep, he will be married to Uma at the end of the filming..Poor Kstew
ReplyDeletei would prob give my right arm for him to end up with her in real life
ReplyDeletewell maybe not that serious, but she is one person i really like for rob..
ReplyDeleteHolly and Rob have great chemistry in BMHB so I think she fits in the role of Suzanne pretty well. Maybe Rob and Holly have been friends since BMHB.
ReplyDeleteone can only hope

ReplyDeleteDid you see who is the costume designer of Bel Ami? She got an Oscar for Marie Antoinette. Bel Ami will be fabulous!
ReplyDelete@agnes: I don't think Mireaux did Marie Antoinette. She did do An Education.
ReplyDeleteI had this crazy (vamp's) thought: maybe Rob would agree in re-shooting "The graduate" with me! Of course, I would be Mrs. Robinson... and the scenes could be hotter than the 1967 version!
ReplyDeleteUhh?? ;-DD
Btw, I loved them both in BMHB. I saw it on youtube, and had no expectations at all; just wanted to see Rob's famous Daniel. But now I adore BMHB!
ReplyDeleteWill be good to see them working together again.
;-0
Well even though I am not really looking forward to Bel Ami, I must say that casting Holly is a good move on their part, she and Robert have great chemistry (I really like their scenes together in "the bad mother's handbook"). And I think she will be great as the sweet Suzanna.
ReplyDeleteI also think that she would have been a very good Bella (aside from her accent that is).
Well it is interesting to follow the news, even if the movie itself doesn't really interest me.
