LOL. Yeah, I don't think too many of us would survive the hands on approach. But, we could sure take a stab at it. I'd even return the favor at no charge!!!!
It's a very good movie. Such a shame it didn't get the success it should have had..
Rob is impressive in it and is hardly recognizable!
However, even if I love Lorca's work, and believe Dali is one of the biggest artists of the XXth century, I don't think this film gets any close to their genius... It's a nice and complicated love story between two tormented souls during a turning point in Spain's history... To be seen and enjoyed !

Little Ashes is a beautiful film. I wish critics would see Rob in this before commenting on his work in any of the Twilight movies.
While I was watching it, I noticed certain quirks that are just Pure Rob. His eyebrow twitches when he kisses, his wobbly walking/running, and his laugh. When Dali shows his eccentric side, you can see how deep it is for Rob. Amazing!
Like someone said before, Rob is an artist-not just an actor.
Many will be surprised when Remember Me comes out...but we (his fans) won't. We are already aware of his awesome talent.
I thought Rob did a great job of capturing a very conflicted soul. He can play subtle emotions like nobody's business. And him kissing Lorca was hot. LOL
It was ineresting to me how in the earlier part of the movie where Dali is still shy and anxious, Rob used some of his own mannerisms to communicate that. There were even shades of Robward in the soft way he spoke. Anyway, at that point I was too aware it was Rob playing the role. Then, he started blowing me away when he did the scene right before Dali leaves for France. The one where he shaves his head and just loses it. WOW. All the scenes after that I could forget it was Rob. I was saying on another thread that I can't believe he's had no formal training. I'm thinking Oscar within five years. Anyone care to take that bet?
I was surprised at how much I liked this movie. Honestly, I was afraid it was going to be a little cheesy. But it wasn't Rob and Javier were fantastic. After the initial shock of Rob's beauty (after he cuts the hair- he is beautiful!) My fangirl got over it and buried myself in the movie. It was so poignant and sad... I cried. I want to know more about these two. I know the movie is "Loosely" based on the truth, but I would love to know more about thes brilliant men (Dali and Fredrico- No Rob and Javier- I alredy know all I can about Rob. LOL)
@Candy Girl, I also said WOW at the shaved head scene! Also at the end when he hears the sad news of Lorca...gets to your gut.
With some of the lighter scenes, there are glimpses where I think he can pull off a romantic comedy in the future. I'm thinking "Tom Hanks" versatility.
I am with you with the Oscar buzz bet within 5 years...I don't think anyone should bet against it.

So many scenes touched me - I just sat and cried as it ended, but had to regain composure to leave the theater. Can't wait to see it again in the privacy of home.
Discovered Lorca's poetry after this movie, but was familiar with Dali for many years. We will never know the real/true story because even in Dali's own words he wouldn't admit the truth. Mad creative genius?
Rob is very Oscar worthy. I wouldn't bet against him either.
And if you watch the interviews with the director and writer, Rob did that final scene in one take. They were out of time and money...
I think he did a superb job and so did a woman I met at the theatre who had met Dali.

@angie-k: I am a big Lorca 'fan'- luv his poetry and his plays, so I think its great if Ashes turned you on to his work. I was familiar with Dali, but not with the details of this relationship or his early life, so I did a lot of reading too. Very glad Rob did this film...

The Paris Filmes already distributes "How to Be" but I don`t find the film for renting at Blockbuster stores. If you have Twitter page , go to the pages of Paris Filmes and Imovision and send them messages. That's what I do. I will not give up. Rob deserves and us too.

I too loved Little Ashes and thought Rob did a great job. It's a shame the critics only know him for Twilight. I think the movie did get a small review, but I don't believe it was a good one. Sometimes Rob loses his accent a little, but I don't care. I still love it. And I agree about the scenes where he has shaved his head and the ending. Both great performances....among others. I say a prayer every night for Remember Me to get good reviews for Rob. The critics are going to analyze it to death because of Rob's quick rise to popularity which he had no control of whatsoever. I think they will be especially critical of him more than other actors. There was a great article written about him I found on the Thinking of Rob site. It's called 'Hollywood is Watching. Can Robert Pattinson Open a Film'. We all know how talented he is. I just hope the media realizes it this time.

I saw Little Ashes this past weekend and the more I watched it the more I liked it. The relationship between the two was very poignant and Rob was very good in such a controversial role.
I love this movie and I LOVE ROB IN THIS MOVIE. Not only his acting is fantastic but he looks hotter than ever in some scenes. In some... he looks kinda funny. lol But my fav is the closeup from his feet to his sleeping HOT head. I want to be Javier Beltran caressing his beautiful hair.....

loved LA, you can see his character intensity developing as he expands his acting skills, the love scenes between the males were well done and quite steamy considering how non sexual they were.
Oh and I was so sad when the betrayal happened, couldn't you feel that pain!!!!
I loved it. Rob gave such a strong nuanced performance. Dali was bizarre. His behavior was outrageous bordering on mad. Rob definitely captured
oops. I didn't mean to send that. He really captured the essence of Salvador Dali.
I'm so glad to have a place to discuss this movie. I'm going to read all of the comments and then share some more of my thoughts on this film.
Candy Girl, that scene really stood out for me, too. He has completely lost it at that point. I wasn't able to really quite understand the relationship between Lorca and Dali. Clearly they loved each other. Lorca was homosexual and seemed to have no problem with the sexual relationship, while Dali I don't think actually was. He loved this man, but couldn't consummate the relationship. I think he was an experimentor but not actually homosexual. There was certainly a lot of inner turmoil there that Rob captures beautifully. Javier Beltran actually had the easier job because there wasn't a conflict, just unrequited love. At least that is how I read it.
Jarielynn, I agree. I googled both Dali and Lorca to find out what I could about them. I also googled Benuel. What an interesting time to be in Spain.

Little Ashes...lovely, flawed film. As I said somewhere else around here, with such an eccentric, 'out there' character, Rob's performance could have so easily slipped into camp. But it did not. It was a controlled performance did he ever command the screen. When he's on it, you cannot take your eyes off of him and THAT kind of presence is simply God given talent. The film and his performance may not have gotten the acclaim deserved (although GLAAD did nominate it for Best Picture and Rob's reviews were not bad, a mixed bag, but not bad), but Rob has nothing to hang his head about here. I believe that as the years go by, the critics will one day look back on this very early performance and give it it's due.
As for this article about Hollywood watching to see if he can open a film other than Twilight? This is what I've been saying for some time now. Of course they're watching. Hollywood thinks they've found their next great leading man, but in order for that to come to pass, he's got to be able to open other films and sells tickets to something other than Twilight.
Hollywood needs new blood. Think about it. Clooney, Pitt, Depp, Crowe, Cruise, they're all approaching 50. Hell, even Leonardo DiCaprio just turned 35. Hollywood is looking at the next generation of film actors and they think they've found at least one, in Robert Pattinson. I personally think if he wants it, he could be both the biggest male movie star of his generation and one of it's best actors.
And throw my hat in the ring on the Oscar talk. You give him the right role and he could win an Oscar before he's 30. And I'm thinking that Jacob in Water For Elephants could be just that role. But only if they let him play the 93 year old Jacob too. If he could pull that off, coupled with his box office success in Twilight, he'd would be the biggest star of his generation.
Could he or would he want to maintain such a status? I do not know. But it's all his for the taking. I think this kid is a hybrid of James Dean and the young Marlon Brando. And that's not hyperole. I really believe that.

I sometimes see some of their essence in Rob and how he brings the characters he does to life.
I love Robert, put I didnt love Little Ashes. It was pretty to look at and had some nice moments in it, but Rob just wasnt ready for the role in my opinion. I mean he did bring a certain awkwardness and inner struggle that was heartfelt for the most part but I just feel that seeing him in Remember Me and the other new projects he has coming up will be a much better platform to show his acting ability. For me Little Ashes was carried by Javier who was amazing.
I asked my Dad to get me LA on Netflix and he did, but he watched it first and he won't let me see it. Said he would never give a movie like that to his daughter.
He didn't like the war bits and all the costume changes and felt it was too morose for me. He didn't like that the love wasn't admittted until the end. Found it all hard to follow and too crazy.
So, I'll have to rent it to see for myself.
Now, this is all very funny to me because my Dad is gay and I'm 38 years old. My Dad is also a movie buff so I'm really surprised by his reaction.
