I did post this on the facebook fanpage a few minutes ago, in case you guys didn't know. It was posted here when I put it in the discussions. Now we have yet another reason to go see Remember Me
You guys are so lucky to have a chance to see it for the first time on the big screen, just before RM. They surely won't be showing it in my country, not that early. At least I have YouTube. But it would be wonderful to be watching it for the first time at the cinema on the big screen:(
Well I am more excited for RM and WFE, then I am for the Eclipse movie...but it's nice that we will be getting the added bonus of an Eclipse trailer, and Edward is delicious so seeing him is never a bad thing, even while I keep my reservations about the movie itself.
How do you bring in the Twilight crowd and make sure the movie gets good numbers on the opening weekend? Just put something Twilight related before it.
I don't like it. It takes the attention away from the movie + isn't this supposed to show Robert as someone else and not as a vampire. How are people supposed to separate him from Edward if they get it showed down their throats at every opportunity?
I cant see anything Twilight related any more. I'm just fed up with it and want it to be over with so that I can enjoy Roberts movies without that crap being slapped in my face at every turn.
pandora, on the other hand, it will showcase Rob's ability to enbody such different roles, to have the facial realities of totally different characters.
to pandora: the new moon trailer did nothing for bandslam, everyone knows the eclipse trailer will be available on youtube the same day anyways, Remember Me will do well based on it's own merit/starpower, not the trailers that are showing
I consider it a bonus, I get to see an eclipse trailer on the big screen while going to see a movie I have waited nearly a year to see
Janna, If I recall, we were getting so many NM trailers and clips that going to Bandslam to see it would have been redundant. On the other hand, we've seen nothing but a handful of 'illegal'?stills of Eclipse, so everyone is ready for a trailer, internet or no.
Pandora, once they're in there warming up that seats, they will see Rob as he's never been seen before and will be blown away. This is good. Why not reel in the Twilight crowd? As others have said, I was expecting this marketing move.
And, yeah, Edward and Tyler on the same night is a wink-win!
It was always a given that Scrummit (Suz I hope you don't mind if I use your line. It made me laugh. Very appropriate.) would do this. I soooo agree Pandora, with all you said but we all know that the powers that be will use every opportunity to cross promote.
I think it is wrong and insulting to the cast and crew of RM to say that the Eclipse trailer will bring more people to see RM. Plenty of stars in this movie have their own following. As others have said it is also going to be on the net on the same day so I think it is lousy timing from Summit, predictable but lousy.
However it should not have any sway on who is going to see the movie. IMHO..the twi's who only want to see Edward will not go to RM and the shippers will not want to see him with Emilie (oh wait they may want to report back to Kristen)
I do not like the fact though that if it has a successful opening "Scrummit" and others will say it has something to do with the Eclipse trailer.
Remember Me Saturday is being mentioned on other sites. I don't know if it has been mentioned here.It is a campaign to get RM to open at NO.1 at the box office.
I am hoping for that. A big FAIL Summit on your timing.
So the RM trailer shouldn't have been show with New Moon? And I guess the cast, and audience,of NM were upset that it was cross-promoting for the actor involved in both projects? I don't recall a lot of outrage at the time.
I don't necessarily want to sit in a cinema full of squealing teens, or squealing octagenarians for that matter, but I will do so if it means more people are seeing Rob's work outside the Twilight domain. I don't think it matters why it can open well, only that it does. Promotion is promotion and I don't think this is outside the realm of the usual, whatever one's view of Summit.
Hmm well where I come from RM was NOT shown at the NM screenings. In fact the RM trailers have only been shown very recently on our screens. So NO, no cross promotion here.
It was shown in the US and some other markets, and I don't recall any furor that a Summit production was promoting a trailer of a Summit production. I think the major reaction was pleasure at seeing more of Rob. Of course, I didn't cover all territories so could well be wrong. Then, maybe you'll be lucky enough that they won't show Eclipse before RM where you come from.
Do I note a touch of sarcasm there? I repeat. I do not like that the first "non twilight" film that Rob makes is being associated with The Twilight franchise. MY opinion, and I will say I AM entitled to it and I will stick with it thanks.
A touch of the quizzical, perhaps. I'm not decrying your dislike of Twilight. Of course you can like or dislike whatever you want, and not see Eclipse, either the trailer or the film. However I was a little taken aback at your expectation that the production company that made both films, starring the same actor, would attempt to disassociate one from the other, or would want to do so. I don’t think showing a trailer will reflect badly on the movie, or Rob. I also don’t think Summit will want to view good numbers as just ‘glory’ for Twilight – Remember Me is their movie too. I'll repeat without any guile, given your location, you will get to see Remember Me without an Eclipse trailer.
That's fine but again you probably should not assume. Because I don't believe that I said that I didn't like Twilight. On the contrary it helped Rob to become the success he is today so I will NEVER say that. IMHO if you feel you have to qualify a statement then it probably does mean what I think it means. So it does appear to have a touch of guile!?(your word not mine) By the way why should you be taken aback by my expectation as far as RM is concerned?
No, it was a typo, that's why I qualified it. I don't know what you'll get to see.
Well, I guess I took you at your word when you said you so agreed with all that Pandora said. I believe she said was fed up with Twilight and didn't want to see any more of "that crap being slapped in my face at every turn."
In answer to your question, because if you go to see a movie, say by Sony, or Disney, you would expect to see trailers promoting their product, particularly if it's being released in the following few months. In this case, it happens to be Summit and Eclipse. You may not like the association but it's built in. It's not really defined as 'cross-promotion' either because it doesn't involve two companies, just one. I don't see Summit as doing anything scurrilous or untoward. I see it as a normal part of film promotion. I guess that's where we differ.
Wow, Katally. And maybe LOL. Films produced by same company---with the same lead actor---and not cross-promote? Seriously?
To be perfectly honest, I would not even consider seeing RM if Rob wasn't it. It's not my kind of movie. Twilight, NM & Eclipse are. Rob is THE only reason I've purchased LA, HTB, HA & BMH. Trust, Rob is going to literally owe his career to Edward Cullen for the next ten years. And there is nothing wrong with that.
Gee Gwen what a surprise! Okay my cross promotion comment need not be taken quite so literally. Not to get too bogged down in it. Summit may own both RM and Eclipse but if they are advertising one product through another then yes I would call that a type of cross promotion. Of course you ladies are free to disagree with me. Yes I do agree with Pandora and I don't see where she states that she did not/does not like Twilight. Just that she is fed up with the whole Twilight thing. IMO not the same thing at all. I cannot speak for her but that is how I read what she says. Oh! and Gwen I hope you are wrong and Rob is not defined by his role in this series for the next ten years. How sad would that be, if ten years from now, he is still being called Edward??
@Gwen: And will go to see Bel Ami, eh? I am with you there. ;)
@Katally: Well, I couldn't really see a great distinction between Twilight and 'the whole Twilight thing.' Doesn't "that crap" refer to the Eclipse trailer? If so, I can't think she's wanting to see it.
I was just trying to point out that though you or I may call it such, the movie industry doesn't call it cross promotion - just promotion. However, not going to determine what you want to call it. If Summit wants to run a trailer for Eclipse - not an outrageous expectation for a movie company - to do it with their own release makes the most sense. They'd be idiots not to. No other company which has its own summer blockbusters to promote would be eager to have it with their releases. And, yeah, they are promoting Rob with both. I'm sure there will be some people who will think of Rob as "Edward" down the line. Some people still think of Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. I think even Pierce does. lol Hasn't stopped him playing other roles or being cast in a variety of parts. I remain hopeful for Rob.
Katally, just to clarify, I don't think of Rob as Edward and highly doubt that people will call him that, nor define him as such, for the next ten years.
I "found" Robert Pattinson, the actor, due to Edward Cullen, the fictional book-based character. A character I really, really love (thank you, SM) and that Rob brought to "life". So much so, I'm willing to follow Rob, the actor, as he does future "non-Edward" films---and as I mentioned, even his previous works. I don't expect him to be Edward Cullen forever, not at all. And I am highly looking forward to him playing other roles, actually. (Yes, Bel Ami, hot damn!)
My point, which obviously wasn't clear, is that I believe that he will continue to get movie roles literally handed to him on a silver platter (for a while anyway), because film companies know very well Rob will have built-in fans just like me. Rob has even said this in press and interviews. (This is what I meant by him owing EC, btw.)
Trying to disconnect Rob from Twilight and all it's actual success does Rob a serious disservice. Like it, love it, hate it or not, playing Edward was Rob's choice and a role he's made his own entirely. I don't get the reasoning behind your wish to see Rob's efforts so stratified? Why is there even an issue?
I've probably seen every one of Harrison Ford's movies---ditto Sandra Bullock. We find favorite actors and stay with them their entire careers.
My only issue with RM is that of a spoiler-type nature. Nothing to do with Rob, Summit or oh-he's-not-Edward. LOL. I prefer "happy", chick-flick or "actiony" movies. Serious angsty drama---not my thing.
I will, however, go see RM simply because Rob is in it. I like him that much.
Hot diggity damn! A double dose of heaven!

Will it be so in France too? (when RM is out - early April)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this means it will play ONLY on 3/12, or beginning on 3/12?
ReplyDeletepandora, on the other hand, it will showcase Rob's ability to enbody such different roles, to have the facial realities of totally different characters.
ReplyDeleteDon't care about the logistics, just want to see the trailer!!!!!Hot damn, can't wait!!
