I've seen it. It's an amazing, weird and interesting movie, even if I don't think it really gets into Dali's genius.
Interesting part for Rob and very difficult...
However, it's worth it.

I watched this 3 times last week, just beautiful. I struggled to catch quite a bit of the dialogue but it became clearer with each viewing. I don't often get sad at films, but this one had me welling up at the end :(. It had enough moments to make me smile and snigger too. It's a shame it got such bad review from the critics.

I LOVE Little Ashes!
My fav scenes are the one in the water (of course!!!) and the one with them both working in that studio... Lorca is writing and Dali is painting...
And the score is wonderful, so touching... My DD is learning spanish guitar -- she plays it beautifully :)
Love everything about this movie! Though it is a bit sad that the theaters did not show it the way it deserved.

I loved Little Ashes too. So beautiful,sexy and sad. Love the scene when Lorca is back and see Salvador in his rum with funny clothes and when he suddenly kisses Lorca + the lake and many other.
Is there any blatant in the face nudity or sex in this, or is it implied/understood?

@soles, it is kisses(short scenes) most of the time. Not much in the face nudity or sex. Just one scene but it is not long (not with Dali and Lorca). There is a sex scene with Dali and Lorca but you can't see them totally naked. Search the youtube most of the scenes are there.
@ solas: it is not grosse. It is beautifully done. I may be a lil dirty on here (on this site), but I do not like anything pornographic or too graphic. It is sexy. You won't regret seeing it. The story, the music, the cinematography, just amazing. :)
solas, one more thing: Little Ashes will surprise you - and make you cry... :)
Thanks Annie and Crazy; then it sounds like something I would watch; I would like to see all of Rob's work, as I find him incredibly talented, and playing a homosexual seems to be an initiation or requirement for range of parts for actors, at least straight actors (playing crazy or insane or MPD characters is another), as it forces them to view the world in such a different way, and act a character with such a different reality in physical desires that affect the psyche. It is this--seeing that effect in Rob's eyes as he plays the part, seeing how he walks and talks and breathes with that character's psyche, that I want to see, not the actual physique or physical acts that, once again, I feel are private.
How does one watch an entire movie on Utube?
solas, you will see how talented these two guys are. Rob and Javier. They are really good actors. Unfortunatelly, my country did not bring LA to the theaters, so I had to see it on YouTube. Try on there "Little Ashes movie part 1", the other parts should follow.

I really loved Little Ashes. First of all, I had to laugh at Salvador's first appearance, stepping out of the car in that outlandish outfit (bet Rob really hated that!).
It's very beautifully filmed and written, and Rob really portrayed Dali's shyness, complexity and vulnerability.
Very touching and sad, please watch it if you can!
Solas, You are going to love Rob even more after this film,I did anyway. I didn't knew what to expected and I get blown away by Rob. He just disappear and all you see is Dali and his mad world. It is not so much about sexuality or gay love rather then the love between to people. I didn't even notice after a while that it was two men kissing. I hope you enjoy Little Ashes as much as I did.
I don't think either that I need to see the actors naked but sometimes you love a person like Rob and you just want to see them as they want you to see them :) I would love to see more of his beautiful soul.

@Solas: Certainly the film is about more than just the portrayal of would-be gay lovers. Also, Dali had issues with sexuality that are both hinted at, and shown. I think the two scenes relating to that – the one on the rooftop, and Lorca/Magdalena/Dali - are probably the really loaded moments, more so than the moonlit swim. There is some partial and full nudity (female) in those scenes. There is only one moment of explicit male nudity, and that is Rob on his own. The film is not entirely successful, and I wish they had explored the art a little more, but is well worth seeing.
I am anxiously awaiting my copies of "How to Be" and "Little Ashes" which should be here soon! These are two very interesting characters Robert Pattinson plays and they are not easily forgotten! I hope all of his fans are owners of these great performances!

Anyway, I really loved this film and found that Rob did a great job. I am a huge fan of Dali and really enjoyed how Rob played that character! I loved the part when he poses for that picture with F. Garcia Lorca! I am quite sure I have seen the original picture and, this weird look Rob is having, is quite the same as in the original picture!
Anyway I spent a good time and I think this film is really worth seeing!

I have to admit I had little interest in seeing LA,(I know, I know it's part of Rob's work) but after reading all your comments, I've done a 360. Assume I can get it through Netflix? Would prefer not to watch it on You Tube. Curious why it didn't get a bigger release here, did it even play in art house theatres?

Just watched "Little Ashes" and I have to say what a stunningly beautiful movie this was. The cinematography was absolutely breathtaking and the story line was absorbingly evocative. But what caught me of guard was Robert Pattinson's performance, not because I don't think he is good at his craft, he most definately is, but his portrayal of "Dali" was spot on. To be able to pull of a quirky character such as Dali was an amazing task in which he did with ease. He made me feel his pain, sadness, happiness, etc... I loved him in all of his work prior to this movie and after, but this one showed me a side to him I thought I would never see and that is no matter what script is thrown in front of him he will in no doubt be able to portray it with grace. Bravo to Robert and to the cast of Little Ashes, well done....
Annie, ITA. Solas, you'll forget about the love story and scenes being between two men; instead, you'll just feel the emotion the two characters have for one another. It's an incredible movie, very moving, very sad, and incredibly thought provoking.

I believe there is a scene in this film that will offend you. It did not offend me as I found it simply heartbreaking. I'll describe it for you.
The frustruation is building between Salvador and Federico. They want each other very much but Salvador cannot give himself over sexually to Federico (word had it that Salvador was sexually abused as a child and it screwed him up sexually for the rest of his life. Supposedly, he wasn't a participant in sex but rather, a watcher).
The scene in question...
Salvador and Federico are alone together, kissing each other and becoming aroused. Magdalena (a woman who loves Federico) comes to his door to seduce him (she is aware of his attraction to Salvador). She begins and then notices Salvador sitting on the floor on the opposite side of the room. She carries on anyway as if to tell him...'I'm going to have him now.' Federico is reluctant but he does care very much for Magdalena and doesn't stop her. Salvador watches them and with tears in his eyes, begins to masterbate (no, you don't see 'anything' but with his body movements and the expressions oh his face, there is absolutely no doubt as to what it is that Salvador is doing). Magdalena is completely nude and in the role of aggresor as she is on top of a somewhat passive Federico. Then Federico sees Salvador and sees what he is doing and suddenly, he becomes the aggresor. He flips Magdalena onto her back and begins to thrust forcefully into her, all the while keeping his eyes on Salvador. They both bring themselves to orgasm while watching the other. Poor Magdalena is simply being used. The two men are essentially having sex with each other even though one is masterbating and the other is using a woman's body.
It is a disturbing scene, but also heartbreaking because Salvador simply cannot consumate with Federico. I believe he was homosexual by nature but had a morbid fear of being penetrated and therefore, could not have sex.
From the things you've said here, I would say that you would find that particular scene a bit too much for your tastes and I just thought I'd let you know.
It would be a shame though if you missed Rob's work here just because of one scene. He was wonderful. At only 21 and without any formal training as actor he took on this very difficult role and he did just beautifully with it. I went and rented it tonight because it has been months since I'd seen it in the theatre and I wanted a friend of mine (who has virtually zero interest in Robert Pattinson), to watch it with me and at the end she turned to me and admitted...'you're right. he's more than just another teen idol. he's a damn good actor.' She was very impressed and started asking me...'now what's this movie you've been talking about with him coming out in a couple of months?' She'll never be a Twilight fan, but I think she just might end up a Pattinson fan. Not obsessed or anything, but appreciative of his talent. Anyway...

I just watched it!! I only knew that Dali was a Spanish painter from the early/mid 1900's so I came in with a pretty open mind and had no idea what to expect--other than what I had read on the fan sites (ROBsessed), of course ;). I thought it was good and Rob was great in it!! I've been dying to watch this movie since April 09...and was very disappointed when it wasn't playing ANYWHERE near me! So I've been (not so) patiently waiting but Rob didn't disappoint! And the guy who played Garcia Lorca (Javier Beltran) was pretty good too. I'm sure I will be watching it several more times in the next couple of days! :o)

I love Little Ashes so much...I had to buy DVD abroad but it was WORTH IT. My only gripe is I wish they had subtitles! THat's all...Rob's sensational <3
