It's been just a little over a week since a massive earthquake devastated the Caribbean Island of Haiti, leveling buildings and capturing countless citizens underneath the rubble.
While aid efforts for Haiti began shortly after the earthquake, tonight, some of Hollywood's biggest stars got together to bring further awareness to the cause. Amonst them was "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson, who stressed the importance of technology during this crisis.
Robert, who appeared on camera from London, shared the story of a girl in Haiti who had been buried under a flattened university for nearly six days, praying that someone would find her. Finally, on the sixth day, rescuers discovered her because of a text message sent from underneath the rubble.
Amazing.
The story was just one example of how technology, including Twitter, Facebook and texting, has shaped the response to the earthquake in Haiti.
Here is his speech in full:
"Underneath a flattened university, Maxine Fallon waited. She was crouched in a fetal position and could barely move. In the darkness and during the hectic sounds of the day, through the pain, the hunger and thrist, she prayed that someone would find her. And on the sixth day her prayers were answered, she was found because of a text message from the rubble sent rescuers to her side. Unlike any other event in history, our world has been connected to this tragedy because of technology. Twitter updates, Facebook pages with pictures of the missing and text messages for help. This technology is working right now to connect us, too. At hopeforhaitinow.org, you can donate and you can instantly interact with people in Haiti and anywhere in the globe. Join with those watching and see what they're saying about something we all care deeply about — helping the Haitian people get back on their feet. Please go to hopeforhaitinow.org. Thank you."
Robert of course, was just one of the "Twilight" stars to participate in the benefit to help Haiti. Across the pond in L.A, his "New Moon" costars Taylor Lautner and Anna Kendrick answered calls from people interested in making a donation.

ReplyDeleteInteresting fact:
ReplyDeleteShore wrote the theme song for Late Night with Conan O'Brien. The theme was carried over to The Tonight Show when O'Brien succeeded Jay Leno as host.

Dear Rob,

ROB YOU DID A GREAT JOB and you broke all of our hearts with your beautiful, sad eyes. You move me so much. Your voice was so beautiful and we love that your english accent has gotten stronger again because you are home in London. We are so proud of you and all of your fans will give a lot because you gave your time to speak on the Hope For Haiti telethon. YOU MOVE US. YOU REACH US and YOU BREAK OUR HEARTS. Your eyes are so deep and soulful and we feel your every emotion through them. THANK YOU FOR COMING OUT OF YOUR SECLUSION to do this. WE MISSED YOU SOOOOOO MUCH. Love, your fans and me: music4debbo
ReplyDelete@music4debbo , you've spoken from my heart. Thank you Rob. We all love you.
ReplyDeleteI'm just watching this now. Does it look to anybody else that Rob's lip is cut or something? Almost the middle of his upper lip looks very red to me. I'm also surprised how much stronger his accent is, I wonder if he just naturally pulls back on it when he's in other countries, or if it was really changing from being away from home for so long.
ReplyDeleteMadonna needs to lay off the plastic surgery, she's starting to look like Jocelyn Wildenstein.
ReplyDeleteI read on someones twitter that Rob may have donated 1 million to Haiti rescue...though this has not been confirmed. Also, apparently he was literally in tears backstage. He is such an awesome, sensitive guy. I really love you Rob....thank you for all you're doing. You are so blessed and you bless others with what you're doing. I wish nothing but great things and happiness always for you! (I hope you are reading this!)
ReplyDeleteRob is a really good guy..i have read that some thought he looked nervous He did not look nervous to me just caught up in the signifcance of the moment and he probably felt humbled by it...Halle had tears in her eyes and others too It was powerful...and sad and uplifting. I am sure he felt good to be able to help.
ReplyDeleteanother ff rec:
read Fate and Forgotten Secrets on ff...just discovered it and doesnt get enough love for how good it is
Thanks for putting up the link to donate! I just donated $50 to the cause..I have previously donated through Red Cross. I really hope Haiti get all the help they need.!
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to see this on my TV later tonight!
I'm still moved by Rob and his genuine feelings. Hope he never changes. Love him more if thats possible...
ReplyDeleteFILTM MORE!!!
what an amazing night was last night for me. Thank you girls from robsessed, thank you all my friends out there who shared such sad, beautiful emotional night with me. This is what technology should be for, helping the needy and bringing people together from every part of the world.
ReplyDeletethank you Sir Pattinson all these because of you. if hadn't been for you i wouldn't have found this mindblowing window to the world.

ReplyDelete@dina, It was amazing last night :) I'm glad to have been able to share this with all of you all. I was moved by all the generosity and I can' thank Rob enough. He is our Angel.
@ann I am still moved by the emotions. The positive energy from all over the world was anbelievable. It was like huge waves immerging from every part of the planet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gesture!
ReplyDeleteBut I'm feeling sad cause Haiti ends the search for Quake survivors...I'm thinking is there anyone alive?!!
God Bless than!
He was so good, so sad and so serious, I can se now that he's very mature. He's got everything. If you just look at the fact that he's home finally, on his vacation, no paparazzi, and he decides to come out and speak for such a good cause, and he knew there would be cameras in his face all the way through. I'm proud of him!
ReplyDeleteFILTM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can spare the time please give Rob some votes.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.hellomagazine.com/vote/grand-finale2009/menattractive.html
Hugh Laurie's catching up Rob.
I want to thank everyone that has donated to this cause...I'm from Dominican Republic and i have friends in Haiti and my moms boyfriends is also Haitian...most of them are now homeless and most of them have lost family members, its uplifting to see how people have united worldwide in compassion and are trying to help the haitian people.....this people have lived in porverty all of their lifes, and even in the worst situations they still maintain their happiness and warmth and they have this amazing live energy....
ReplyDeleteHowever in all of this greatness there are still some sour points...Last night and even today some people tuned in just to see Rob and some were actually so superficial that his looks etc took more importance ..to this people i say, you are heartless....yes we are Rob fans, and I for one I'm very grateful he and all of those other celebrities took the time to lend a hand and do this, this is not the time to be concentrating on trivial silly things as his beard, his shoes etc.....i get it that there is freedom of speech, but some people should really think before they speak/type.
@ annie: no, we did not break any records for comments, yet! I think some threads had over a thousand when some of the 'oldies' were still here every night.
ReplyDelete0-0
Nice post Dilia!
ReplyDeletePeople should really care less about the beird or shoes etc. and wish that there are more people like Rob. The world is suffering every day.
Today is very sad day for me, my friend lost her baby and she's so young...
I came here every day to find some comfort, and this guy, and you girls make me laugh when I'm down.
@annieforpatty & @ Fae - If you lovely NB's complete your shirts, please let the rest of us know which blog you're posting the pictures on.
ReplyDeleteWe could use the inspiration for our shirts.
FILTM!
@RPG: and someone else who asked about Unbound Captives - putting this here in hopes you'll see it. I shouldn't say a word - or maybe I should, lol, as everytime I think this movie is doa it resurfaces! Some say February start. Am trying to get any confirmation, but may not hear more till next week. The are they/aren't they is killing me on this one....arrggh! :)
ReplyDeleteGood morning,
ReplyDeleteEveryone made it through last night.
I had a vivid dream that I was with Rob. Didn't want to wake up. He did a fantastic job last night on the telethon.
Happy Saturday!
This was a really moving occasion, and it was wonderful to hear the stories of people contributing, from the heart, especially those talking about going to volunteer in Haiti. Wonderful music, too, and I hope they raised a bundle.
ReplyDeleteHey AP - ITA. The music blew me away. The stories of survival knocked me off my feet, especially the children. Even if all viewers gave $5 it will be an enormous help to the people of Haiti.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Dilia.
ReplyDeleteAnd Fae, sending a caring hug your way.
Let's hope last night's efforts help Haiti tremendously. That was the point.
Peace and love,
Gwen
@CullenLover I had a dream about him last night too! He was running for charity with his beard LOL (something like Forrest Gump- I've gone crazy) and he was doing all the charity work he could! aaaaaw
ReplyDeleteFuck, I love this man from my dream!
@Barbara we'll sure post the pictures, don't worry!
Thank you Gwen! Hug back to you!
ReplyDeleteFae - he had his beard in mine too and we were just hanging out, but having a great time. Sigh, I wish.
ReplyDelete@Dilia - I heart you. Great post.
@Barbara,you colud look att my blog. there is a few but more comming. I'm working on it.
ReplyDeletehttp://annieforpatty.blogspot.com/
@Cullenlover7: Yes, absolutely. Amazing and inspiring stories of survival, and the stories and pics of loss were gutwrenching. The kids made me think not only of Haiti, but all those who live in terrible circumstances around the world. I'll be sending out a lot of $5's to the Aid organizations. I'll just keep a little for the New Moon dvd. :)
ReplyDelete@AP - Save some pennies for the NM DVD, especially since we are going to have to order them from all kinds of countries to get the extras we want. We should start a fund.
ReplyDelete@Cullenlover: We are? I thought Summit was ensuring extras would be available to as many markets as possible. Now I'm confused. lol What extras won't be available in the english-speaking countries?
ReplyDelete@annieforpatty - looked at the tshirts on your blog. They are awesome! As soon as ours are done, I'll do photos, too. Thank you for the update.
ReplyDeleteRob should be well represented around the globe on 3/13.
