Deets on Robert Pattinson in Water for Elephants
The gif has nothing to do with the post. I just wanted to post it :)
From DeadLine.com:
Twilight Saga franchise star Robert Pattinson has finally found a studio film to sink his teeth into. He's in talks to star in Water for Elephants, the Richard LaGravanese-scripted adaptation of the Sara Gruen novel that Fox 2000 is putting together with Francis Lawrence directing. Reese Witherspoon is already attached, and the studio is courting Sean Penn to return from a big screen sabbatical by playing the other lead in the Depression-era romantic triangle. The novel was a runaway bestseller, and in keeping with the eclectic output of Fox 2000's Elizabeth Gabler. Gil Netter, Erwin Stoff and Andrew Tennenbaum are producing.
Pattinson is in talks to play Jacob, a 21 year old who joins a second-rate traveling circus after he’s traumatized by the car crash death of both parents. He left just before he was to take his veterinary medicine exams at an Ivy League school, and finds his place in the circus by caring for the menagerie of mangy animals. He falls in love with Marlena, the show’s star performer (Witherspoon), and that's courting danger since she's married to the paranoid schizophrenic animal trainer who runs the show. That is the role that Penn is circling. Deals still have to be made, and putting three pricey stars in a period adult drama is a challenging proposition.(Gozde: Jacob? Seriously? :) Rob is so NOT a Jacob)
Pattinson, who between Twilight segments starred for Summit in Remember Me, has been cautious about choosing his next job, but the prospect of starring in another well-known literary adaptation, potentially alongside two Oscar winners, seems a strong move. The hope is to get the picture into production around June, before he returns for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.
Penn, who took a sabbatical for personal reasons, has also resurfaced as a potential Larry Fine in The Three Stooges. While that Farrelly Brothers-directed comedy has Fox strategically positioned as at least co-financier, the picture resides at MGM. It won't be go into production until ownership of that studio is resolved.
Witherspoon is also in discussions for the 20th Century Fox comedy This Means War. There is no director on that film, but Bradley Cooper is also circling the comedy which Fox production chief Emma Watts has revived after the studio acquired it over 10 years ago as a vehicle for Martin Lawrence. Reese would play a woman who separately meets two men, who happen to be best friends. When they discover they're pining for the same woman, the title kicks in. Will Smith and James Lassiter's Overbrook is lead producer on the film.

Gözde, thanks for the gift :D
This is awesome! Just ordered the book!!!
I don't think I could call him Jacob....they need to change the name!
Reeze & Rob . . . Hmmm . . . Didn't she play his Mom in Vanity Fair . . . I think they'll be cute together.
What does this mean for Unbound?
Rob as Jake sounds so wrong. Robcob? Nah. He doesn't look like a Jacob even as a character.
Jules,
LMAO...Robcob...we do love his COTC!
Seriously, he needs to stop making movies based on books...I'm running out of room on my book shelves :D
RobCob...hehe...
...I'd say file that under "things that sound dirty...but aren't", except with this crowd, one never knows, does one??
:D
OK, I may just cry if this is true!! I love the book !!!!!!! woohoo !! *prays for this to be true*
Poor Taycob you have to feel sorry for him, Rob trumps him without even trying. Swiftner calls it a day at the same time as Robsten is seen in IOW and they are totally overshadowed, Rob gets a presenting gig to himself and he is working with seriously heavyweight stars. Taylor so desperately wants the fame and Rob wants only insofar as it allows him to do the projects he wants
Well, I just love that little vid of Rob taunting us with his striptease - sexy or what - one of my favourites of all time.
Great news re the film, he's really taking off now isn't he. I'm so proud of our boy.
@RPG: Hugh's busy in June with "Steel" anyway. It means UC has been pushed back, probably until next year if Rob is still attached. I am wondering if that can remain the case...
Um..there are a lot of characters called Jacob - just have to shift the paradigm here. :)
Thx for the gif: the Event..lol
Thanks AP! I hope the movie gets made because it does sound really good...
I heard this rumor a few weeks back, but didn't know weather it was true or not. Yay! It is. Water For Elephants is a fantastic novel. When I read it last year I read it really quickly because I enjoyed it so much. I hope this all comes to fruition because I'd love to see him in the role of Jacob Jancowski. Can't wait!!!
I wonder what has happened with Unbound Captives.
Rob's part in UC isn't that big so he could technically work around other things whilst Hugh&Rachel shoot, although like AP said, Hugh is shooting 'Steel' in the summer.
RPG, saw the name Jacob and mind went to COTC as well. ; )
Lisa, ditto on the books!
And Goz, that gif is always welcome!
I hope this can happen for Rob. This is a great move. I think he can can deliver a solid performance. This may lead him into a nomination(s) next year.We shall see.
Love Sean and Reese. Rob will learn a hell of a lot working with those two. They may help to draw out a deeper and more profound performance out of him. This is win win all the way around. I think I'm getting excited about this one. I haven't read the book either, but heard it was a great read. It seems to be really well known. I'm guessing it's a bestseller.
I can't read. It said bestseller. LOL
This term 'circling' for a role sounds so much like vultures circling overhead, looking for a heart to devour, or, less so, like circling the wagons for defense, or, moreso, like fighters dancing around until the blows begin. What does it mean in the movie context?
While it's a fantastic novel and I'm a huge Robfan, I just don't see him playing J.J. at all...
Oh good things are happening for our man! At least it makes all the craziness his life has become worth it!!
Robcob? Mind goes to gutter....
FILTM!!!
Finally something to look forward to!!!
FILTM!!!
OT: Does anyone of you lovely ladies have a copy of FF story "The Office"? I would be forever grateful!!!
sueberthes@googlemail.com
@Solas: I like your images, some of which may be appropriate, lol, but I think here it's more in the context of orbiting - gravitating towards but not yet pulled in. I hope Penn won't push for another actor he's worked with...
Thanks for the .gif Gozde! You should NEVEr resist urges like that one. I cant recalle what event it's taken from though. Does anyone know?
I agree, RobCob sounds wrong. RobCop though... Well that opens a whole new window of fantasies...
I bought this book two months ago and have been putting it off. Everyone says it's amazing. Well, at least I can read it now with Rob in my imagination as the Jacob character.
Ooooohhhh! You ladies are naughty!
Gutter, meet mind. LOL!!!
Rob's COTC = WIN
Team Jacob = Team Robert = Team Edward....
Oh Rob would be glorious in this part! I can totally see it!
Good solid part. Something Rob will LOVE to sink his teeth into. So many layers and sides to Jacob.
I am praying my little heart out!!!
hi gozde - that gif is so funny! his expressions are priceless.
that would be ironic if Rob get that role in the movie. wouldn't it be Oedipal since Reese Witherspoon played his mother in Vanity Fair? ha ha!
nice gift jajajaj that movie sounds really cool
I know right reese is a lucky bitch!!of course but I have to disagree con jake ...aaa man I don't know how is that guy sexy naaaa not for me..but ryan is so hot or was...he's kinda lost now
OMF - Rob would be so awesome in this part. I really really really hope he takes it. One of my all time favorite books - love, romance, history, humanity, history, aging. Just a beautiful story about a part of american history/culture. And the lead character is so real and heroic. This story has elements for a wonderful film - an amazing story and could be visually stunning - and with this cast!!! GAH!!!! OK - Goz, once again you made my day, week, month, year!!!! SQUEEEE!!!
oh wow reese and sean? Nice to see that he is getting good projects and talent is being recognize. Rob is really flying high. go Rob! amaze us.
THIS WOULD TOTALLY MAKE MY YEAR!
This is a wonderful story.
Rob would be perfect as Jacob (ironic?)
And Reese as Marlena and Penn as August..
P E R F E C T Casting!
Sounds like a very interesting project :D... hope it works out!
Not sure I want to read the book now, though. I'd rather watch the film first so I don't have any expectations. But I do want to read it.
I'm so glad to see Rob keeping on considering meaningful roles :D!
Now excuse me while a goggle and drool at that gif...
I read the book and frankly had a hard time getting into it, but once I got into it really enjoyed it. This would be a great movie role for Rob if the timing is good around his other projects. Sean Penn is reported not to be the easiest guy to get along with, but he is a fantastic actor. I think if anyone could do it, Rob could. Love that Reese Witherspoon appears to already be on board.
I've read this book. It's really good. Rob would be great in the role....I'm psyched for this already!!!!!
Haven't read the book but checked out the story and it sounds perfect for Rob, if indeed he is interested.
All best wishes for him getting the role.
I read this book in 2007 or thereabouts, and seriously loved it. Besides some great characters, it's a fascinating look into how circus people lived during that time. Lots of pathos...
wow i REALLY hope this is true..I loved this book and Jacob is a huge/star part of the book and even ages from 21 to like, 80?!!lol... the beg. of the book is when he is looking back at his life...so sean penn and reese witherspoon are major and I think it would be a great career move too
I can see Reese and Rob together they would make a great pair...she is so cute!
OH MY GOD---That is my favorite book of all time! AND--I have been saying that it would make an awesome movie!! It would be unbelievable if Rob would be in it--You have to read the book--it is so good and it would be such a great part for him. I am not so sure about Reece...
Reese and Rob together? That's like reliving the deleted scene in Vanity Fair where Reese goes "I'm here to see my son" (that would be Rob). I just don't see them together, it's kinda different for Rob and Uma though, cuz she has never played mom to Rob.
Wow, this is great! This movie would probably have to be in 2011? Rob has Breaking Dawn I and possibly II.
there are a lot of positive buzz generated for Rob. It seems Rob's part is almost a done deal but Penn would still need some time to consider. Let's hope this will happen soon!!!
I had hoped that this news got more responses in this board. Where are the people???
The script is excellent. A fantastic role for Rob with memorable scenes between him and Penn.
Does sound really good.. I'm so proud of that man and the awesome projects he gets involved with.. Except for the Jacob part, that is..
Where can I see that whole video of Rob taking off the coat??????????Damn - he looks like he's doing a strip tease!!!!
Gotta see it!!
