Well it might be everywhere across the pond but it certainly isn't here in the UK. There's a full page photo spread in the Mail on Sunday with celebs manning the phones and a mention of the stars that took part in the London event but NO Rob!!!! What is it with the British Press...I just don't get it....bloody idiots....
Lizzibee, you're brave for admitting to read the Mail
Can people please vote for Rob on the Hello website as Hugh Laurie is catching up ! Clear cookies and you don't have to wait for ten minutes ! Would it be possible to send out a twitter request too ??
I've had a quick peek on the Mail website, remind me to delete cookies, ugh, lol and they seem to have used getty images for their piece. So I think it depends on their source of pics I guess and how lazy the writer was ! lol ! That said, I do think that Rob isn't as big over here in the UK for some reason. For now anyway !!
Same here in Norway..they had this big article online about HopeForHaiti and not one single mention of Rob, or a picture..so I guess this "everywhere" applies to US and maybe Canada only?
That's okay we'll just keep ROB all to ourselves over here in the good 'ol u.s. of a. LOL He's probably happy it wasn't made into such a big deal in England...he's seems genuinely happy about the lack of attention over there.... Anyway, Rob did an awesome thing and George knows it...Taylor & Anna were manning the phones too. They're a good bunch, the Twiligt gang.
Your comments are very interesting; this is something I would love to study further and understand. Is there something about America and Americans socially and/or psychologically that makes the fandom so extreme, the paps so obnoxious, even the media so everpresent re Rob, or is this happening in other countries as well? If so, I would love for any of you in countries experiencing this level of RObsession/hysteria/ call it what you will, to please let me know either here or emial (solas18@aol.com). We know that there is Robsession in Japan, but they treat him with respect there; I think this is culturally indicative of Japan; the Isle of Wight vacation seems to show that British culture treats people more respectfully (perhaps after Princess Diana's murder? perhaps after Queen's request/edict re privacy?) but after some comments posted now, I wonder if it is resepct or they just are not interested in him there; I don't know the level of Robsession in Ireland but I know we respect people's privacy there and many 'stars' can live there wthout aggravation; etc.
Any info on different countries and different reactions, as well as insights into the different reactions, would be so interesting (at least to myself).
True story: yesterday I wanted to find a screencap of Justin Timberlake from the telethon to compare his beardiness to Rob's. I Googled "Hope For Haiti Justin Timberlake Screencaps." What came up was a full page of entries titled "Robert Pattinson Hope for Haiti." I had to scroll through at least 20 entries all about Rob before I even came to one about Justin, and then still couldn't find any screen caps of him. So if you don't think Rob is the most searched/talked about actor on the planet right now, think again. I didn't even type in Rob's name and came up with nothing but Rob information in the results. Honestly that blew my mind.
I can't imagine what it must be like to be so famous that you're name is the most mentioned out of all the stars that participated. How does your mind even grasp that?
As shallow as it sounds, Rob was the reason I watched and the reason I donated. Plus, I thought his presentation was the most heartfelt. It is the only one of the speaking parts that is on video on Eonline.com. I thought he was fantastic.
lizzibee, I think he purposely did not want press for his participation. That's one thing I love about him. He didn't even introduce himself. It was not for self promotion. It was truly from the heart doing something to help the people in this tragedy. Don't you just love him for that?
This conversaton about the paps in other countries and the amount of fandom in other countries interests me because, I guess, Princess Diana. I am always afraid when he is home in London that the photographers will be chasing him around and that it won't be safe for him. I hope you are right and he has a refuge there from their lens and from the mania.
For whatever reason, despite wanting (needing) to see Rob as much & often as possible, I'm glad he catches a break in the UK. They were waiting outside the studio after HFH taping, but perhaps they were there to shoot all the celebrities. It was a publicized event. On another note, who's paying Drew his bodyguard? He's across the pond now protecting him! What a tell-all story he will have to tell, if ever.
Hi Solas, I will continue our other conversation later. My curiousity about Rob's bodyguard is that I always assumed Summit hired him to protect Rob. So I was a bit surprised to see him still on duty in the UK, when Rob is off the clock for Summit. This is a job for Drew. I'm sure they get along well, but respectfully, I don't think it's about personal trust & wanting him around. It's about safety for Rob to have him there because of Rob's mega-celebrity & vulnerability when there's lots of (hysterical, perhaps unstable) fans in close proximity, or other crazies. He's very good at his job, and I'm sure Rob appreciates the security, I'm guessing he would wish it wasn't necessary.
Lallieb-for sure he is there for security; what I meant was, rather than hire someone else, since he needed someone, Rob was already comfortable with and trusted Drew. So even if it was Summit that arranged for Drew to be the bodyguard during Summit productions, perhaps Rob was able to hire Drew for himself because ROb trusted and was comfortable with him already.
The money from donations will be used towards purchases for the blog. Not a single dime will go into our pockets :) Help us bring you better content/pictures by donating. Every little bit helps!

george is a god along with rob
No mention of Rob in Austrias newspapers either ;) ...which is kinda good I guess, he is already much to popular...

Well - I'm a Mail reader too, hands up I confess!
I was pretty annoyed that Rob didn't even get one mention in the article on the Haiti fundraiser...
You can bet your life that if something negative had happened for Rob, his name would have been splashed all over the papers in the UK.
Still I don't suppose Rob will be too bothered by this typical omission by the British press.

It looks like Rob can trust him, and likes to have around him people he can trust. It is logical.
