I also hope Rob will have the same career as Leo, who became one of the best actors in the world, choosing the right parts and working with the best directors...
I have loved Leo in "Gilbert Grape" and "The Basketball Diaries" , for instance, challenge roles for a young actor but now I think he is more a powerful artist than a great actor, producing his own movies and other projects, being friend of great directors like Martin Scorsese. I am sure that Rob is gonna have a great career.
I love Leonardo because he isn't pompus. He has confidence in Rob and Zack to handle the situation and I think he's right. They handle it in different ways in terms of their girlfriends, but still they are focusing on their work and long term success as an actor and that is the important thing.
hearing from someone who went through a similar frenzy and made similar choices, is refreshing to see what can lie ahead if Rob continues on the path he's on
I know! I loved Leo too and had a huge crush on him for years. Although, what I feel for Rob seems much bigger. It's just nice to see Leo talking about Rob. Thanks for the post!
He is definitely aging REALLY well. Yum. LOVED!!!! Titanic, have it at home and have seen it bunches. He's right, Rob can handle it, and will have a great career!!
I've always love Leo as an actor, but he's never really done it for me physically (i've never gone for blondes until NOW) but I do have to say that he's definitely more attractive the older he gets...and he's definitely a cool dude....:-)
I thought he was too young for the Titanic role - Kate Winslet seemed SOOOO much older to me - but I still loved the film. I'm more impressed with his environmental work than his acting, but I've enjoyed him in many things. His serial model-dating is a bit of a turnoff, though...
Titanic is one of my favorite movies of all time. Love Leo. I have thought recently that he would be a great one for Rob to talk to, if needed, and if Rob wanted to, but I like Leo's response. I feel confident 10 years from now Rob will be asked the same question about some new young star, and respond similarly - meaning Rob will have a long career filled with excellent choices. Notice he didn't mention Taylor. he-he! Sorry, don't like that kid.
Leo is such a great actor, but I guess I'm the only one here who thinks he looked better in times of "Romeo + Juliet" and "Titanic". I mean, he was really hot then. I especially liked his hair.
It's so impressive how well he steered his career and managed to become one of the greatest actors now. "Catch Me If You Can" and "The Departed" are two of my favourites.
I also hope Rob will have as great career as Leo has, if not a better one:)
Ok, don't hit me, but I thought that last part was a slight dig at Rob---the "wax philosophic" part, complete with Rob's self-deprecating manner. Will watch again, but with more coffee.
Then again, have never been a Leo fan (sorry!). No hate, just really not---just does nothing for me. And, yeah, didn't like Titanic much. (Wasn't exactly a happily ever after, so...)
Honestly, I think Rob is in a class by himself. ZE, really? Please. ; )
damn I fell for him hard in romeo and juliet and basketball diaries. I cant believe he's all grownz up!! I dont think zac is in the same league of superstardom as leo and rob. Titanic made leo and twilight made rob. THey had vhs tapes on leo dicaprio and all kinds of leo tell all when he came out. I couldnt believe it,he had a posse of friends too.I think they would get along together if they ever hung out.Though I believe Leo is more upfront and not shy.
@Gwen Well, variety is the spice of life. We can't all have the same likes and dislikes. EXCEPT FOR ROB! We're all in agreement on that subject!! A chacun son gout!
@Gwen Yeah, Leo did kinda sound like he really didn't want to be talking about Rob. @skorpia Jealous? Methinks maybe, of all the attention Rob is deserving of!
Why Kate, am I not surprised? Even in the looks category, think time has not been Leo's friend.
I appreciate his activism, but he tends to come off as a bit too full of himself. So above it all, he can't waste time or "wax philisophical" about such a trite topic as fame. Funny then, isn't it, that he's aware of the Rpattz moniker? If he took up-and-coming actors seriously, he'd take them by their real names. Dig? Durh....
I don't think he was taking the piss out of Rob at the end, I thought he was just doing an impression of himself being all high and mighty/patronising sort of thing. Who knows.
I loved Leo in Gilbert Grape (though not at much as JD!) and Titanic.
Aw I thought "superficial crap" was referring to the creepy screaming fangirls who chase him about, or those that threaten to kill themselves unless he bites/shags them, rather than the more "ahem* mature fans who appreciate him as an actor (and a damn fine bit of eye-candy ;))
I agree with Acconati-I don't think he was talking about the fans (at least not the psycho ones) I think he was referring to the papps, rumor-mill tabloids, etc... I'm sure that Rob and Leo appreciate their fans, but it must be difficult to suddenly have all your anonymity just gone. And I think he was making fun of himself or perhaps the question when he said he wasn't going to "wax philosophic", not Rob. JMHO
Aside from Titanic, which I loved, I think Catch Me If You Can is a wonderful movie-loved Tom Hanks in it, too! I admire Leo's acting, but he's no Rob!
I don't think Leo was taking any shots at anyone. I think he was complimenting these two by saying, they know the score. They know that all of this adulation is bullshit and one day it will pass and they don't need him telling them how to handle it. If Leo did do something like that -try to 'wax philosophic' about their current situation, he'd then come off as full of himself, condescending jerk.
What I thought was the most interesting thing he said was, that all of this nonesense is going to pass. And it will. I personally cannot wait until this Twilight madness has been put to bed and the 'exclusive' Edward fans can drop off (and they will as he moves onto other roles and other leading ladies and therefore, dashing their Edward and Bella fantasies) and he can then go on with his career. And those fans who appreciate him for more than just Edward Cullen will stick around and hopefully, as his talents grows, he'll pick up more along the way as he moves beyond teen idol tag as DiCaprio has done.
Nik-ITA. While I'm sure that at some level Rob's enjoying all the love, and he's said that his sudden popularity has opened doors for him earlier than he would have expected, I don't think that's why he's in this business. I really think it's because he's passionate about the work. And I think that will serve him much better in the long run, because the screaming girls stage is fleeting-it's the quality of his work that is going to see him through a lasting career.
actually when LEO said "wax philosophic", i thought how gifted he is with his verbage, it is evident that this man is quite refined and urbane....
as for LEO's acting chops, he's in a league, most will never attain.... hopefully ROB will reach such heights thru his actual talent, rather than idol worship...
I'm late to the game, and this thread is dead, but wanted to say that ITA with Nik.
Also, I remember when I saw What's Eating Gilbert Grape in the theater and was so impressed with that "kid" who played JD's little brother. I wondered if they actually hired a teen with a real intellectual disability, or if it was indeed, acting. Didn't follow up on who it was, but found out many years later (post-Titanic) that it was Leo, and will always be impressed. He also did well in The Basketball Diaries. And I loved Catch Me if You Can.
But I will agree with the very few others who said this: He hasn't aged well in my opinion. He has like no bone structure in his face anymore. Where'd it go? I like chiseled, baby! I also get turned off by his serial supermodel habit as someone else mentioned.
But I do like his environmental work and his acting. And what might come off to some as "full of himself" might just be the guardedness that results from surviving the Titanic years of extreme privacy invasion.
Oh, speaking of hot actors and actors playing intellectually disabled teens, did any of you see The United States of Leland? Hot actor: Ryan Gosling who was adorable in it (though disturbing), and none other than our Mike Welch played a young autistic boy. He also did a bang up job with that. Great, sad movie.
God ,some fans of Robert are really unbearable they always think that all the people have jealousy of Robert wake up girls This is Leonardo Dicaprio,a respected ,dedicated and famous actor in the world, nominated for numerous awards, working with the most respected directors and actors all the time.
jealous of Robert? why?...because the paparazzi follow him more ? or now You are going to say that He is jealous of Robert's career xD come on when Robert can get a Oscar's nominations or works with Scorsese,Spieberg, Cameron, Nolan, Riley Scott, etc. you can say what you want but now.. come on ...see the reality
some fans are so blinded and obsessed when They have a idol
Dicaprio is speaking about the fame . not about Zac or Robert in specific or with bad intentions on them.
@yopita I'm wide awake. Not knocking Leo and certainly don't think he is really jealous of Rob. He's a credible actor in his own right. Just a little shout out to Rob. That does happen from time to time on this site.
yeah Leo! Didn't think a thing about him except when in Titanic he's hanging onto the wooden panel while they wait for help and she's on her back singing and looking into the stars and she turns to tell him the boats are coming back and she keeps shaking him and he's ...*sniffs, wipes eyes * gone! I just watched this again today with my daughter she was curious and I kept telling her don't watch this without me and she put it in and that scene came up and she kept asking all these questions like why don't they come back for them...and there's plenty of room in those boats...and Molly asks the same questions when it's her on camera...Rose finally remembers what her promise to Jack is and lets . Him. Go. Figuritevly and physically lets him go. I bawled all over again I can't watch that and weirdly enough he's PALE and COLD and sacrificing himself for the woman he loves and will not see die. Now all these years later I see Rob emoting in this way and making me feel exactly those same emotions that Leo and Kate made me feel all those years ago...It hasn't been that long has it? And i think to myself *sings* 'what a wonderful world...ohhhh yeahhhhhhh. Rob has the same ability to make us feel as Leo does and still does and yes I do think he's getting hotter with age...I mean as a pretty young boy he can only age well and look really really good as a man. which brings me to the age difference thing with me and RP? Rob makes us feel emotions an actor 2x's his age can...he is an old soul and so ladies haveing said that...yeah it may seem like I'm reaching here, but so what I'm Robsessed and loving every minute I can absorb of our lovely Englishman and his accent and his way of thinking...GILTM! And will always.
We'll just have to agree to disagree on Leo. I do think he was fantastic early on, but hasn't explored or fulfilled his potential in later years. He was blessed to make a friend in Scorsese, unfortunately his inclusion in that gang also corresponds to a major letdown in S's work. Not Leo's fault, but undeniable IMO. I sense a lack of true vocation and dedication in Di C, perhaps I'm wrong...
Then again who cares where Leo's career is heading when we've got Rob to watch! On that score, Leo could perhaps offered a little well-intentioned advice on how to bring the "frenzy years" to a quicker end? I think Rob might actually appreciate that, though in a private convo of course.
I've always liked Leonardo Di Caprio. Not physically, because although he was (and still is) very good-looking he is not my type, but I believe he is an *exceptional* actor. I have loved him in every single thing I've seen him in ("Basketball Diaries", "Marvin's Room", etc.). I remember seeing him first in "What's Eating Gilberg Grape?" and I was completely blown away (@puddle: I wondered exactly the same thing!!!). He's definitely up there with Johnny Depp, for me.
I, too, do hope for Rob to follow their same path.
P.S.: I don't think he meant any slight to Rob, either.
P.P.S.: as it often happens, I completely agree with you, Nikola6.
Someone mentioned about DiCaprio's acting in Gilbert Grape and wondered -as they were watching it-if he really was retarded. You weren't the only one.
When Barbra Striesand watched a screening of it, she called the director Lasse Hallstrom and asked him...'Lasse, where did you find such an adorable little retarded boy who could act?' And Lasse replied...'He's not retarded Barbra.' She did not believe him. True story.
His performance in that film is considered by many to be the greatest portrayal of a mentally retarted character EVER committed to film. They asked Anthony Hopkins that year, who gave the best performance of the year and he replied...'hands down, no doubt about it, Leonardo DiCaprio in Gilbert Grape.' THAT'S the film that made DiCaprio as an actor. And he was only 19.
I grew up with a mentally retarded cousin and I'm telling you, DiCaprio captured everything; the gestures, the voice and most especially, that vacant stare in his eyes. No matter what he does from here on out, I don't think he'll ever top Arnie Grape and I'm guessing it will always be my favorite performance of his.
Even Depp was blown away by him. And Meryl Streep (with whom he made Marvin's Room with...great film), called him "an acting machine." And that was from Streep; arguably the best actor (man or woman) this country has ever produced.
Someone also mentioned Ryan Gosling. Keep your eyes on him. He's gonna be one of the greats. He's so willing to take chances and doesn't want to be shoved into the 'Hollywood leading man' catagory.
Leo didn't actually do anything to make his year of insanity pass. He just hid out until it was over. That's about the only advice he could pass on to Rob and unfortunately, Rob can't do that right now.
He's got to work and get as many films under his belt as he can, before he takes his extended break. Also unlike DiCaprio who only had one film and one year of the craziness to deal with, from start to finish, this Twilight madness is probably going to five films encompassing 3 to 3 and 1/2 years. Big difference there. And Rob's only through the first leg of it. He's got another two plus, years of this to go.
Back in 1998, DiCaprio didn't have to deal with an out of control internet in the way that Rob has to today. And...
DiCaprio wasn't playing a fictional character taken from a best selling series of books that some have taken to heart to such a degree that the lines between fantasy and reality have been so blurred, they don't even exist anymore. And...
Leo didn't go and get involved with Kate Winslet, his onscreen "Rose" and therefore didn't have to deal with the kind of speculation that Rob is having to because of his 'supposed' relationship with his leading lady, his onscreen "Bella."
I think in terms of magnitude, Rob is dealing with a whole hell of alot more NOW than DiCaprio ever had to deal with over a decade ago.
Is it just me or is Leo getting hotter with age? I hope Rob goes on to have a great career like Leo.
ReplyDeleteI hope so Nicole.;-)
ReplyDeletemy 2 favs!!
ReplyDeleteoh yeah,i wish too.i love leo,he's my original crush before rob came along haha!
ReplyDeleteYou know I never really liked him in Titanic (as in his looks not his acting). It wasn't until recently that I've gone wow he's kinda hot.
ReplyDeleteI also hope Rob will have the same career as Leo, who became one of the best actors in the world, choosing the right parts and working with the best directors...
ReplyDelete<<STILL crushing on Leo..he is sooo adorable :)

ReplyDeleteI thought Leo was HOT in Titanic, another of my faves.
ReplyDeleteI've always love Leo as an actor, but he's never really done it for me physically (i've never gone for blondes until NOW) but I do have to say that he's definitely more attractive the older he gets...and he's definitely a cool dude....:-)
ReplyDeleteoh YES Leo gets hotter every year! He's so smart & such a good guy. I love his voice & yeah, in 'Blood Diamond', his accent? Oh, yeah....
ReplyDeleteKate
ReplyDeleteHow nice for you!! I can understand your logic, because fantasy most times IS better than reality!
I thought he was too young for the Titanic role - Kate Winslet seemed SOOOO much older to me - but I still loved the film. I'm more impressed with his environmental work than his acting, but I've enjoyed him in many things. His serial model-dating is a bit of a turnoff, though...

ReplyDeleteI loved Leo in Gilbert Grape (though not at much as JD!) and Titanic.
@Kate
ReplyDeleteHow did Leo turn you off?
How sweet of Leo to call our undying affections for Rob as "superficial crap".
ReplyDeleteAw I thought "superficial crap" was referring to the creepy screaming fangirls who chase him about, or those that threaten to kill themselves unless he bites/shags them, rather than the more "ahem* mature fans who appreciate him as an actor (and a damn fine bit of eye-candy ;))

ReplyDeleteLeo didn't actually do anything to make his year of insanity pass.
And how could I forget this?
ReplyDeleteBack in 1998, DiCaprio didn't have to deal with an out of control internet in the way that Rob has to today.
