What a beautiful way to say Guy de Maupassant ! I'm French/English so I fully appreciate the little sweet accent! I haven't read Bel Ami since I was in school and it bored me, but I've started to read it over just to see how Rob can fit into the complex character of Georges Duroy... Interesting to see this on screen...
Anyone else notice that every time he talks about Unbound Captives and Breaking Dawn he says, "I think . . ."?
And what's up with the casting for Bel Ami?! I don't know what's rumor and what's fact, but Uma Thurman? Kristen Scott Thomas? Do you girls at ROBsessed have any connections? Can your people call their people and get us someone like Kate Beckinsale or the countless British unknowns who deserve their chance. Uma Thurman?! Maybe it's just me.
There is nothing better than Rob speaking french. I was watching one of the French interviews he did last week...over & over & over...lol...I just love watching him talk & listening to his accent, even when he's speaking English. But French, oh la la...*sighhhh* ;) He is so intuitive & you can tell he thinks deeply about things. Even though I know he's been asked these same questions hundreds of times.
The man is so thoughtful! The man is so beautifully articulate and ahhhhhh. What a lovely interview. He definately pitches to his audience.
@ sprtzmom - You have a valid point. Uma is a surprise, she'll just have to strech herself - can she speak with an English and/or French accent? I think Kristin Scott-Thomas will be awesome(she has chops!) I know the English Patient was a while ago, but she was great in that movie.
@Louisa - Yes, I can live with Kristen Scott Thomas. She is a very good actress, assuming she would play Madeleine Forestier. In which case, that means Rob's character will have a sexual relationship with Uma's character. *shudders*
It's too early or too late and I'm not compos. I meant to say that Bel Ami is filming mainly in Budapest. At least that's what Rob said and I've seen it elsewhere too. They may film in Paris as well.
Uma Thurman used to be great (see Gattaca)and Kristen Scott Thomas did a french movie last year (I have loved you so long) and she was awesome....I'm not sure about love scenes with Uma b/c I haven't read to book yet(it's on my to-do list)but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Rob that everything HE does will be a success. He so deserves it!
@ Sportzmom - I heard it was the other way around. Uma to play Madelaine and Kristin S-T the clingy mistress (who I can't remember the name of). I guess we'll just have to wait and see. And Ohhhh, the costuming if they play it to the period it was written in. Those lovely shoulders, tight waistes and high collars would suit Rob perfectly. (Not so sure about the moustache though!lol)
Bel Ami sounds promising. Can't wait for the end of the Twilight Saga , so Rob can make his choices without having to worry about the Twihard. Can't wait for Remember Me , Unbound Captives and Bel Ami !!! YAY!
After following this wonderful blog for the past year, I finally felt like commenting today.
Admittedly, Mr. Robert Pattinson is my secret obsession. And after this interview, I have to say he will be the death of me. He seems to want to downplay his intelligence and charm but it just seeps out in the quiet way he speaks... I can't get over his accent when he says "Guy de Maupassant!"
For the amazing people who make up this blog: Thank you for feeding my secret obsession. You make my day everyday! From a "40" something suburban soccer mom (my 15 yr old daughter got me hooked).
I love when he speaks like this, I prefer when he is talking without screams behind :-),I´m looking forward to all those films especially breaking dawn!!He is gorgeous!
so looking forward to everything he's got coming up!! I'm only concerned about one thing in Bel Ami-the scary mustache. Stubble, YES! I've never loved that look on a man so much in my life. But raggy-looking 'stache? Please, Rob, NO. I'll try and look past it, but will sob just a little. ;)
I'm reading Bel-Ami right now, so main characters: Madeleine Forestier (Uma Thurman), Clothilde De Marelle (Kristin Scott Thomas) and Duroy (or later Du Roy De Cantelle) is played by Rob. Other characters that might be of interest (I'm not finished reading it yet :D): Ms Walter and maybe her daughters, a prostitute in the beginning of the book who he is close to before Clothilde seduces him. And male characters: his friend Forestier and Mr Walter and maybe some of the other editors and writers from the paper. There might be more to come, I'm reading the last quarter of the book now :) So three girls that share Duroy's bed up until now!
Locations are said to be Budapest and London. To be honest, nothing breathes Paris the way Paris does... (and no, I haven't been there yet, but Paris has a uniqueness to it...)
I don't think any movie role Rob played so far outshines his personality in real life. He is just brilliant in every way as a person and always so sweet. :)
@A, d67, Louisa, and Annelies - Thanks for the updates. I have Bel Ami sitting at home and it's also on my list of things to do this winter. I just can't see Rob making out with Uma or Kristen (another Kristen!). I don't have a problem watching him make out with Emilie DeRavin in the Remember Trailer - at all, so I know it's not an issue of me only picturing him with KStew. Since they aren't going to call and ask my opinion regarding the casting, I probably just need to quit whining.
Anxiously awaiting his other films... and not to repeat everyone else's comment BUT his French accent is beautiful.. 3 grade French (his own quote) my a$$.
Sweet Jesus... the man has so many unfair advantages!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, just finished reading Bel-Ami. And I must say, damn that Georges-character goes through women! :) It's a very woman-unfriendly role, and I don't think it will be easy to play such a cold man sometimes. As for Uma as Madeleine: She's his female counterpart it seems ;) It's going to be an interesting movie to see. And I'm anxious to see who they cast as the other female roles! I wont tell the ending, but it did surprise me a bit, because it's a twist in the last few pages of the book!
@Annelies - Thanks for the update! I'm anxious, and a little frightened, to see how the rest of the cast shapes up. You know I'm not a fan of the first two choices they announced, good actresses or not.
I admire Uma Thurman, but I would have liked to see Robin Wright. She spent some time in Paris when younger, and I think she's really ready to take on new challenges. Of course, she's probably busy.
They do need some strong parts to support the movie! Robin Wright would have been great, but Madeleine in my imagination is paper-thin... If Kristen is Clothilde, it's a good choice. As said before, the Walters (4 of them) need to be cast well too and Forestier. Those are important roles that last throughout the movie. I'm very curious about this one :) And still peeved that they might choose to not film in Paris... (no, I'm not French ;))

GAH, I love it when he says that name too!!! He's so intelligent and well spoken. Le sigh. I soo cannot wait for all Rob's new movies.
"Guy de Maupassant" and "Bel Ami" Melts me ... But i don't know why I looove when he says "relationship"... I think it's something about his mouth...
Let's see... Eclipse will be out next summer... probably followed by BD in another November release.
Hopefully, UC will hit theatres AFTER the TL saga shizz is over... and THEN....
Rob should DEF take off for at least a year and do nothing except read scripts... do some theatre back in the UK... and get his life back.
I understand "making hay" while the sun is shining... but no more projects.... after BD...K?
Sissidelyon, watch "Le petit journal" the day they had Jhonny H. in the show at around 5.0 Rob says “Salut Le petit journal”, you’ll love it.
And we still don’t know where Bel-Ami will be filming.

I do too -- I LOVE the way he says some words with that lovely accent and manly voice. Better if he said them in my ears... *siiigh*
I did not go see NM yet, will go on saturday with my teen daughter and her friens (I think... if they want me...).

Kristen Scott Thomas was great in "I've Loved You So Long" (english title) Definitely worth seeing if anyone is a fan of hers.

Why is Rob the only person who seems to be confirming BD? Everybody else just says they don't know, but he keeps saying he'll be filming it.
Summit needs to quit draging it's feet and put out the word on BD asap. I'm not getting any younger!!!
