Robert Pattinson Vanity Fair Outtakes and Article

Article

It’s been exactly one year since Twilight, the teenage-vampire book series turned film franchise, became a worldwide phenomenon, launching brooding, reluctant star Robert Pattinson into the celebrity stratosphere. Not since Leonardo DiCaprio’s Titanic era has there been a young actor so rabidly hunted by teenagers and paparazzi alike—enough that mere sightings of him with his co-star and rumored paramour Kristen Stewart make for international front-page news. For the cover story of Vanity Fair’s December issue, contributing editor Evgenia Peretz interviews Pattinson, Stewart, and a host of Twilight insiders for an intimate profile that describes how he landed the role of Edward Cullen, distills the essence of his appeal, and explores his discomfort with the hormone-fueled frenzy he inspires among his fans.

To read “Twilight’s Hot Gleaming” and see Bruce Weber’s exclusive photographs of Pattinson (only available in the print edition), pick up a copy of the December 2009 issue of Vanity Fair, available on newsstands in New York and Los Angeles on November 4 and nationally on November 10.

Peretz, who, as it happens, profiled DiCaprio in 2004, follows the Byronic British actor from the Comic-Con convention in San Diego to the Waldorf Towers in New York City, as he prepares for the November 20 release of Twilight’s sequel, New Moon. There are no wild nights out at clubs—even if he could go out without being mobbed, Pattinson would prefer to curl up with a good book.

Rather than working his way through supermodels, Pattinson, who’s been living out of three suitcases for the past year, has been feeling overwhelmed, self-conscious, and guilty. “I’m trying not to drown,” he says in his hotel room at the San Diego Hard Rock Hotel, which is littered today with beer bottles, old scrambled eggs, a half-eaten Twix bar, and a dirty pair of jeans on the living-room floor. And he notices that he hasn’t made his bed. “Oh, God. Sorry about that.”
“I’m unbearably self-conscious about stuff,” he admits. To the point where, while filming scenes before the army of New York paparazzi that has been following him around, he is terrified that his “ass crack is showing.”

Raised outside London in a small village, with a wavering desire to be either a musician or an actor, Pattinson is painfully modest about his talent and looks, and eternally confused by his fans’ devotion.

Despite the fact that he is an exquisite beauty—with perfectly formed red, red lips and a face that might have been dreamed by the Romantic poets—he thinks he resembles “a cartoon character.” One of his legs is longer than the other, which makes him look, he assures you, “like an idiot.”

He’s sure he’s driving people crazy by constantly talking about how he can’t leave his hotel room. And he sees his inability to relish his fans’ reverence as his own shortcoming. “I guess I’m not the type of guy cut out to do a franchise,” he says. “I’m not much of a crowd person.”

Pattinson’s first role in a major film was a bit part in Harry Potter, which ended up bringing him to the attention of Twilight’s producers. But if he had his way, he’d stick to playing awkward, tortured outsiders.

[Pattinson’s director from the indie film How to Be, Oliver Irving,] recalls, “he’d make his eyes water and get himself all worked up ... slapping himself and doing everything he possibly could to make him feel ill,” while passersby wondered what the hell was the matter with this guy.
When you play a weirdo, he explains, “You can always have an excuse... He’s a weirdo!”

But Pattinson’s behavior was far from antisocial during the filming of Twilight. In the evenings, director Catherine Hardwicke remembers, Pattinson was “always drunk,” entertaining Stewart and other members of the cast in his hotel room with his guitar. A “nervous attraction” was brewing offscreen.

“What Rob and Kristen had is a multitude of feelings for each other. Complex feelings for each other,” says Hardwicke. “It was what we needed. Complex, intense fascination.”

Pattinson, for his part, says of Stewart: “She’s influenced how I’ve done all the Twilight stuff. It’s quite nice to have someone who is genuinely indifferent to the whole spectacle of everything.” For the record, however, Pattinson says the rumors of a love affair are false: “It doesn’t make any difference what you say [to the tabloids]. I’ve literally been across the country [from Kristen], and it’s like ‘Oh, they were on secret dates!’ It’s like ‘Where? I can’t get out of my hotel room!’ ” Stewart is even more emphatic: “It’s so retarded,” she says. “We’re characters in this comic book.” (Gozde: Let the word twisting begin.)

Thanks to Vanity Fair
for releasing the pictures and the article. Don't forget to pick up Vanity Fair on stands starting November 4th :)

I think they're going to be releasing two more sets of outtakes! :) This VF photo shoot is going to be the end of me!

I thought the book might be a prop to excite the ovaries off of his female fans.

On the other hand, it might also be his current reading material, to immerse himself in preparation for his Bel Ami role. You know, understanding the sexual and mental profile of the handsome sex-crazed Georges D.

It seemed like the photographer arrived, and said, "Hold it Rob -- no need to get up yet." Click! Click! Click!

............
Talking about Rob's reading repertoire. Did anyone get a glimpse of the books he brought with him to Japan? Anything a little more exciting than Ticket to Ride? That book killed my gray matter!

Pet73 said...

OMG, of course I knew there was more to come! But these pics are just .... wow. Don't find any other word to describe them.

Looove the VF pic overload!!!

My favourites so far are the pic of Rob slouching in the chair and the one of Rob dressed in a white shirt holding one shoe in his hand.

Pew, I've got so much work to do today and no time for staring at these beautiful pics :(! That's torture! (And staring at them is as well, because Rob's so beautiful it hurts!)

Pet73 said...

Oh, and the one of Rob's with a balck tie, holding his head in his hands and pulling his eyebrows up - that kills me every time!!!!

Kate said...

Have larger size added and also interview!
Enjoy xx

Pet73 said...

"black" of course :/

Anonymous said...

Hehehe...the way the interviewer described Rob..

"Byronic..
exquisite beauty..
perfectly formed red, red lips.."

.....
What I want to know is when exactly did they conduct this interview? Huh, huh..

Pet73 said...

Thank you so much Kate!

He looks gorgeous, definitely.

But the article PISSED me off like hell. I'm surprised someone didn't mention this before.

Read this excerpt: Rather than working his way through supermodels, Pattinson, who’s been living out of three suitcases for the past year, has been feeling overwhelmed, self-conscious, and guilty.

It made him look bad! Like a REAL hobo of some sort. How dare that journalist include that in her article. That's just wrong. And still Catherine says that he's "always drunk" and entertaining people with his guitar. It WILL give readers (who aren't fans) a WRONG impression about Rob.

I only like the photos though. That kind of saves the whole VF thing.

OMFG!!! WOW

agreed with youarenotlost...the pics are awesome but the article, at least the preview sucks ass! I don't like the tone of it one bit, it sounds all sorts of "I don't wanna follow this guy but I must, so yuck where do I sit? oh my good he has old eggs in his hotel room"...and that comment from Catherine? where he was "always drunk at night"? wtf is that people? I mean it's one thing that we comment on stuff like this on silly blogs and we giggle our way through his crazy face pics taken late at night but another freaking thing when a "respectable" magazine puts it in print for everybody to read...and by everybody I don't mean Rob fans, because we know more or less all this and we love him anyway, but I mean other people in the industry, people he might need to interact with and so on...it's very unsettling... what does it say about Rob that his former director says he's always drunk? :/

I can't stand more really wow. I know am repeating myself but what can I say to describe how much I adore this man.

love the pictures number 9,10 and the last one with his beautiful smile.

Thank you for the pictures.

Gozde said...

Wow, really? Did you all think Rob's room was tidy? They talk about how messy he is in every interview :)

I like the article, can't wait to read more ;)

Thanks for posting Kate!

I actually loved the pics and the article it just shows how he's a regular guy who is at the time not living a not so regular life.
I find it funny that after all this time of people asking for a Robsten confirmation nobody talks about the fact that its just been denied.
how are the shippers goin to take this...

Karina said...

Um.....The tone of the article is not very Rob-friendly. The excerpts make him sound like a hot mess to be honest who's in over his head and not necessarily capable to get a hold of it. The whole article better show him in a better light, cause I don't like the tone so far. It sounds like he and Kristen will deny the rumors though, so that's going to be interesting to see in terms of reactions.

Unknown said...

Yeah, the excerpt doesn't outright deny rumors, but the author seems to imply that the actual interview will include an on-the-record denial of a relationship, and by both of them.

I don't think the article is very favorable either. There's long been rumors of Robert not holding his alcohol intake well and being a lush, and the excerpt reinforces that image --- the notion that he needs alcohol to garner strength and use it as a social lubricant for his normally shy self.

On top of it, it's implying a sense of apathy to what's been handed to him. Apathy that can be easily read as indifference and even being an ingrate.

Yeah, so far, they are making him look like a bit of a meathead, even though they acknowledge he's sensitive and a tad self conscious of all the lame praise.

Anonymous said...

I mean I love how the article still has Rob saying "his ass crack was showing".

But yes I agree. The tone of it... it sounds off.

And I know we think he dresses like your hobo next door, that he wears the same outfit for the last 5 years and all that shizzz.

But to actually have a "credible", "reputable" magazine address that nationally is... kind of... wrong, I guess. "Wrong" might not be the right word to use here, but I just don't agree with the article.

ps: let me explain really fast why I think the article is not necessarily rob-friendly. Notice she's using a parallel to Leo, a guy who survived teen idolhood. Leo's more of a perv, it's acknowledged, BUT Leo also had a drive and a focus to want to continue in the field. There's a definite setup to compare Rob to Leo from the start of the article.

But notice it's to contrast them. Yes, rob's not banging supermodels left and right(at least not so publicly. lol)

But also notice where they are going to contrast him to Leo--the idea that Rob doeesn't have his act together as much, doesn't have the same drive or focus, as well as the tenacity to keep going.

The GQ article hit similar notes last year, but with a much kinder, sympathetic tone to his plight. A year later, and the same characterization may not seem as endearing, and the tone of the excerpts could be pointing this difference.

I Really can't take anymore...PLEASE STOP! hahah! I don't know if he is, but is he wearing men's jodpurs in the 7th picture down? It's just that theres that little saddle grip on the inside of the knee.... just wondering ;)

Great pictures!
I dont´t like the article either, though I need to read it conpleted.
I also think nothing is denied (I mean when they talk about a possible romance between them). I think it is just what the journalist understand(or wants to understand..:S)

I guess we should wait for the whole article to draw final conclusions... This kind of description of his hotel room is not disturbing for me at all, it would be much less attractive if he would be a cleanliness maniac or something. And I suppose VF had this interview previously checked with Rob's agents as well.

The man is beauty personified. Both inside and out. I'd be more than happy to volunteer to clean his hotel room for him.

Sigh. Not looking forward to the arguments that are going to explode over this article....

robgirl86 said...

LOVE all the pics and Love the banner, thank you so much

the problem with showing him being a regular guy is part of the problem though in terms of the subject matter. The question at hand in the article is "does this guy have what it takes to survive being a teen idol from a trendy franchise?" And all the quaint details of his messy hotel room and the "golly, all this attention over lil' ol me???" attitude make him just seem unprepared, period. Notice the title: "Hot Gleaming."

Translation: Hot flash of light. Flash being the operative word....see the setup here folks?

OKAY OKAY OKAY.

I know we have been making fun of Rob and his hygiene for the last year but come on hearing those words from VANITY F*CKING FAIR just made me drop the credibility points that I once saw from them.

BUT.
This is just a preview. And after giving some thought into it, the whole article is still premature for someone to judge.

I really hope that the rest of the story will do justice. Because the photos are amazing and they can't just let one little article ruin it.

Do you remember that article on GQ?Yes i'm talking about that "pretigious" tabloid. After that we knew that interview was completely false (or disorted by the journalist).
Why now is not the same?

I'm considered Robsten but not because of what Rob says or doesn't say.
I'm Robsten because of evidences I've seen during last months (all of them make me think they're together).

If any of these days I watch or listen Rob or kris saying they're just friends and not trying to confuse or avoid awkward questions just to turn the attention aside, I will believe they are not together.
Meanwhile I'll be thinking the same.

I hope you understand me English

Karina said...

Oh god. I didn't even notice the "Twilight's Hot Gleaming."

"Hot" is self explanatory.

"Gleaming" is a flash or brief occurence.

They didn't pick those words randomly.

Gozde said...

InStyle, GQ and now Vanity fair is being called "not reliable". Seriously? Do you think a Rob interview is going to appear in Wallstreet journal? What is reliable for you?

Pammi said...

oh god...can he keep those jeans?

Dilia said...

@Gozde
RIGHT?
i mean some pro-Robsten people are starting to be ridiculous.
saying Vanity Fair is not reliable.
I think Robert and Kristen could probably go on television and say they are not together and still the shippers would find a way to say that it was just them saying what Summit wants them to say.

Gozde said...

@Dilia, I'm staying out of this. I just can't believe someone called GQ a tabloid :) Had to comment.

If he is not shagging me I don't care who he shags :)

Pandora said...

I dont understand the fuss.

I loved the fact that C.H. said he was drunk. Hes ENGLISH for crying out loud. Its in their nature XD Have any of the critics of this article ever been to the UK or lived there for a while? Its nothing unusual for guys that age to go to the pub (or stay in and drink if they cant go out) and have a couple of pints.

Him being portrayed as a slob. Well, he IS one and I love that. XD

I can so relate to that. Right now I have several pieces of clothing lying on my floor and a half eaten pizza from last night on my table. Oh and my bed is unmade too, so what? Hes not some overly polished guy and I love the fact that he is like that. I dont need another perfect Hollywood star that makes me feel like a failure because I dare having bad hair days and dirty clothes lying around my room.

Oh, and the pictures are AMAZING!! *pants over them*

anna F said...

I'm waiting for the entire article to draw conclusions, but it seems to be more of a realistic description of a regular guy in an unusual situation than a starstruck praise.

Then again, I loved the GQ article, and it had the same angle, so I hope for something similar.
I am however surprised at the Catherine Hardwicke's comment on Rob being always drunk, that's never a positive thing (while being messy can be endearing).

The pictures seems fiiiine~ I like the fact that they aren't following some kind of obvious theme, it's quite diverse.

Dilia said...

@Gozde
Im the same I really dont care who he's with as long as he is happy.
is just that i find ridiculous how invested some people are on them being together.

Candy Girl said...

I'll reserve judgement on the article until I see the whole thing. Great pics tho. Love the 8th one with the guitar and bag. Lotta chest showing there...

Pandora said...

@Dilia

I agree with you.
They are so invested in it to the point of being absolutly ridiculous and irrational. Both sides actually.

Lets be happy about those amazing pictures instead. *happysigh*

Karina said...

Pandora--as someone else mentioned. The regular guy stuff is fine--but not necessarily within the context of this article. The article title is calling him a Twilight's hot flash(as in something that starts out hot and then peters out? that's not the best foreshadowing)--and the excerpts are showing him to be in over his head.

I loved the GQ article. It showed a guy overwhelmed, somewhat self protective, not wanting to even say he is that invested in success. But at the end of the article, the writer made it clear that Robert may figure things out and that he was rooting for him.

But it's a year later, and the VF excerpts are painting the same picture, and that's not exactly complimentary at this point. And saying he's drunk every night while he was working isn't complimentary either.

Anonymous said...

Well I was so looking forward to reading this article and the bit that I read I liked....but that buzz has gone now. Stupidley went over to the Vanity Fair site and read some of the comments that are on there regarding the 'denial' of a romance with KStew....unbelievable....and these are supposed to be 'fans'? He's better off without them.
Why is it when we finally get something that's worth reading about him or watching hi in an interview or at an event ....somebody always has to be nasty and rake up bad things to say about him. Do other actors have to suffer this crap or is this just exclusive to Rob?
As to the tone of the article...I hear what some of you girls are saying but I'll reserve judgement until I read the whole piece..that's if I can be brave enough to read it....

Anonymous said...

oh crap now I have to go to work?

Anonymous said...

brandheroin , ils font que démentir!!!! c'est toi qui ne veut pas voir la vérité en face!!! en juillet Kris a démenti leur relation!!

Pandora said...

@Karina

I think you need to chill out.

The drinking every night bit might be bad to you and other people. To me it sounds like a regular British guy (I know loads of those guys his age and they behave the same) and has it ocured to you that Rob wants to keep that image? The regular guy who doesnt fit in and doesnt care about the Hollywood world.

Anyways, before flying off the handle it would be wise to wait for the entire thing to come out:)

Pandora said...

@lizzibee

You are soooo right. We have those amazing pictures to pant over and all some people seem to care about is discussing that highly annoying topic!! Robsten people squirming every way to find explanaitions and Nonsters glowing with glee. Its nasty to look at.

I will look at those pictures for the next couple of hours and, I quote rob now, trying to stay Zen about it. *lol*

i dunno ... said...

Love the profile shot - classic. I always thought “gleaming” meant “shiny”… where’s my dictionary?

Kate, when do you sleep? But thanks for the post. You have made my morning. Will read the controversial article later

I beg you to not fight over Robsten. Just look at the pictures and you'll wish he was shagging you and noone else :))

@Pandora
LOL! I absolutely agree. But it's just bloody typical that you can look forward to something like this coming out....a new, genuine, interview with a quality publication and now there seems to be like a ...well a cloud hanging over it for want of a better description. WHY is there always an air of negativity around him...well so it seems to me. I just despair. Is this the way people actually see him or just WANT to see hi like that?

And if Catherine Hardwicke did say that about him being drunk then she really needs to shut her mouth. I thought she liked Rob?

Another Monday morning with NOTHING done..LOL!!

Karina said...

Pandora--it's not about chilling out. I have insomnia, and this is more fun than the informercial I'm currently watching with bloodshot eyes. lol

And the drinking part is not a judgement, or not understanding cultural differences. I'm saying that I can see the author using the piece of information in a way to shape a bigger picture she's drawing with the interview. The fact she only made it sound like Robert alone was drunk(when it sounds like the whole cast imbibed, not just him) is a little fishy.

chry said...

What robsten fans want is not a confirmation or a denial of the supposed relationship. They just want a confirmation that they're together, that summit is the bad guy, and that they both agreed to deny the rumors.
even after what Rob said in this interview (that no matter what you say, people will keep twisting the facts) they still don't believe it. so what do they want exactly?

what I really don't understand is why they want them to be together so badly and call everyone who's against this "haters." it's not like they said they're in a relationship and fans hate her because she's with him.

on the other hand, Rob looks so gorgeous!! they could release 50 pics a day and it wouldn't be enough! this photoshoot is definitely is best one

Pandora said...

Kristina

Now you could really start and twist and turn that article to the point of it not making any point whatsoever but, honestly, its monday morning (okay its noon) and I just cant give a friggin f*** what message some journalist is trying or not trying to convey. XD
Besides, its not the entire thing! Wait for the rest and then blow it out of proportion due to insomnia :D

Gozde, no worries. I wont start arguing over the-pairing-that-shall-not-be-named :D

Suitcase guitar and jammies. My fave.
I didn't like the alway drunk reference either. I can already see ok mag"Kristen split with rob cause he's always drunk" ugh they are running with the story as we speak! No one is "always" anything.

katie said...

robstens and nonstens are just in a pissing match more than anything, and just want to be right.

I'm not a shipper, but I have my hunches. That being said, I think he will give a full out denial in the interview, and people need to accept that it's his life and he has every right to publicly define his private life on his own terms.

sagesse223 said...

It was 19 kinds of unprofessional for Hardwick to say what she did about him getting drunk, and I hope she NEVER gets to work with him again as a result. I liked the rest of the article--he seems to be giving us more of the humble, regular guy side, and it is endearing to me. At least he apologized about the unmade bed! He's never denied that his room is always a mess! And of course, the piccies! YUM!!! Not even going to bother with the relaysh comments. I also do not care who he shags, but my fervant hope is that he *is* getting a piece!!

Pandora said...

Why do I think its so sexy to see him with sweetcorn, a beer and a napkin around his neck?!?!

And I love that beige pullover! Holy crap, I never thought I would like that colour on a guy but, wow. It suits Rob so well.

tgill said...

What time of the day was this interview done? does the hotel not have a cleaning service? even the most bog standard Ibis hotel cleans and makes up the bed for you usually fairly early in the day. As regard male untidiness I have three sons, only one a teen at the moment, and not one of them understands the concept of picking up after themselves, until yelled at. I think it must be something to do with the Y chromosome.
I feel for the guy, most 23 year old spend their time getting rat arsed and trying to shag anything with a pulse and are let get on with it, Rob sneezes and he's got swine flu!!

katie said...

PS: I've subscribed to Vanity Fair for years now. And i do think the excerpts are definitely painting a certain ipicture of Robert that isn't exactly stellar. Come on, Christopher Hitchens is on their payroll! This isn't People magazine, where they'll kiss Robert's ass. They'll put a spotlight on him, and it may be a glaring one to be honest. So, people's concerns here are quite valid. VF is not candy assed, and it's not going to automatically fall in love with some kid no one knew just a year ago.

Pandora said...

@tgill

katie said...

I liked the GQ article-they totally called him out on his shit where he acts like he could care less about making more movies. And yet they were definitely charmed by him.

I'm not going to lie though, Robert getting a VF cover but then having the blurb call him a flash in the pan(lol) is a bit of a backhanded compliment/gesture to him. Twilight's Hot Gleaming-mean, but funny!lol

beyonce said...

Vanity Fair knows exactly what it's doing. It's dangling pretty pictures in front of Twilight and Robert fans, knowing that alone will get them to buy the issue. And then they will have an article that will be tailored for folks who AREN'T distracted by pretty pictures of him. Pictures are for fans, Interview is for nonfans who scratch their heads over all the fuss.

Anonymous said...

So now some people do not like the interview because the Robsten rumors have been denied, VF is a tabloid or not repectable enough and Rob himself is lying because there's "prove" of a romance...alright. Like Kristen said, retarded. That's my fav word now, retarted. I'll go back to drooling in my corner now.

jmm4832 said...

It makes sense that Rob would come out with a denial about a love affair with Kristen now before the television interviews for NM start. So funny, a lot of people are eating crow - including People magazine.

Parts of the article seem a little "off" to me which is probably because it's not the entire article. So I choose to reserve judgment until I see the complete article.

I do believe the media scrutiny of this man is getting way out of hand. I am seriously considering not reading anything about him and just stick with looking at the gorgeous photos of him and going to see his movies. That would be enough for me.

Maria L said...

a cover interview for Vanity fair is as much of truth about him as you can ever get. they have miles of fact checkers, they sign contracts, the reporter have had hours of time with him, more than any other magazine could ever get and they only use the best writers out there. if you don´t like the picture they are painting of him you should stay with fanfiction. I for once cannot wait to get a REAL interview with him, warts and all.

I agree with all that say this is a bad article for Rob's reputation&carrer in hollywood. I can't believe cougar Cathy said he was drunk every night!? When did she say that? I know the comment about having a shorter leg is very old, so maybe CH's comment is too, but when did she say that? Is she an idiot? Is she trying to ruin his career? Even if it's true, you just don't say that! Hollywood doesn't invest millions on people who are not concidered a stable investment! The comparison with Leo is evident: Leo f-cks around with models, Rob doesn't, Leo had, has&will have a great career, Rob probably won't! wake up people, this is bad! I hope the rest of the intrview is way better, 'cause this bit isn't good...

Kelly said...

@evitarose

trust me.. saying the boy drank every night won't ruin his career in Hollywood... if anything it;s the only town where getting drunk every night can make you more of a celebrity.

And she didn't say they were all his beer bottles, she said he entertained the other actors from the film...

I don't think that is the most important comment in the article.

This Robsten nonsense is getting really old, I don't care if the guy is shagging sheep, thats his business. I think Rob is gorgeous I think he is a talented actor admits that he squandered the "heat" from Harry Potter and wants to capitalise on it this time. Unlike the Americans, and I'm not criticising, who tend project a much confidence the Irish and English are a lot more into self deprecation, it doesn't necessarily mean a lack of focus.Anyway the media tend to build you up just to shoot you down, why are we surprised that the article isn't all cute and cuddly! So long as it has something new about him I'm going to read it, it's worth buying the magazine just for the pictures!!!

robgirl86 said...

By the way I think that Catherine H. isn't that cool as SHE is convinced! (If VF cites right!)
To say "always drunk" is offensive and surely untrue! It sounds like Rob is an alcolic! These sentences are "great" plug for some tabloids!
Here in Europe we handle alcohol, especially beer in another way, but that doesn't mean that everyone is always drunk after dinner time!

First of all, this man is so amazingly perfect that there are literally no words to describe him...
and as for the Robsten thing, let's not forget that this interview was taken in June people..so we still don't know..let them some space, will all the promotion that's going to happen, we will probably find out what's going on sooner than later..

For those mentioning they don't like the article because of the description of Robs hotel roomm...IMHO~I kind of laughed, because..well thats Rob right. And I thought it was fine putting that in the article. Rob himself has talked about his romm being like totally discusting in interviews. Plus he had to know a interviewer was coming over~he could have cleaned up. I am surprised at the comment from CH though about him always being drunk at night

jmm4832 said...

Evitarose, that comment about Rob drinking every night pisses me the hell off. Catherine Hardwicke is an idiot. And Library Babe, I may follow in your footsteps and just look at pictures of Rob and see his movies. So much of what is written is false and misleading.

Mechevpao said...

This is VF, doing an article with them and getting a cover is a major point in any actors career, is the recognition of their status in the “pop culture” and Rob got the cover of the December issue (a very important edition in the year for VF) and he also got to have a respected journalist to do his interview, one that has done articles of bigger personalities than Rob.

Notice than in the fragments of this interview, the journalist is hardly giving opinions, but only stating what is seen.. I´m not surprised his room is not clean, or that there are empty bottles of bears around, one because it is part of his culture and that doen´t make him an alcoholic and two, because he has said it himself many times in interviews last year, that the way he lived was disgusting to any person that would see that.

What I do dislike is CH comments; she is the one presenting Rob as “drunk every day”.
But I see people questioning the line in this article to have an excuse to “invalidate” it because “robsten” is denied… I´m very sorry if you are a fan of the couple, and needed to know that they were banging (because apparently being really close friends is not enough to some); but the truth is that I´m a fan of Rob and I don´t care who he is.. I want to come into this blog and enjoy his photos, his interviews and talk to other fans about it in the way we used to do before this robsten or nonsten madness, back in a time not long ago when people actually had a sense of humor and could distinguish separately two great celebs, on one hand Rob and on the other Kristen, and not the two of them as an symbiotic being.

I am finding the shoots interesting. I am wondering if the ones in his PJs, and in bed, are because he slept over and someone photographed him whilst still in bed, or if these all are posed deliberately, in which case I wonder if it is embarrassing at all to himself, as he must know seeing him in bed, and/or in PJs, will just stir a frenzy, will make him be seen even more as a phantasy/sex symbol, or if he is pulling our legs and really is conscious of, and has fun teasing, the phantasies.

riley said...

I don't think the piece will be ruthless or brutal. I do agree the magazine blurb "Twilight's Hot Gleaming" is indicative of what the article may shape up to be.

I do think Robert has a history of sharing too much out of nervousness, where he's admitted to saying things simply to stop the awkward silences.

I do think the image of Robert getting drunk every night sounds bad, especially since they didn't mention that his castmates were drinking along with him.

And that VF put him on the cover in part because let's face it, his pretty pucker sells copies. The true test will be if they think he's worth the hype, if his relevance is justified, or if he's just a shooting star with a very limited shelf life.

Here's to hoping they see potential there, like GQ did.

solas said...

I also wonder about the psyche behind his posing: here is a child whose mother worked for a modeling agency, whose sisters dressed him up as a girl, and who himself modeled as a young teen. It is almost as if he has been raised to pose, to be shoved around and dressed up and be photographed, and that he just endures it for the most part--- just the usual torture under which he was raised. It is VERY logical, not even taking into account sensory needs of comfort, that he would dress as comfortably (what some of you call the 'hobo' look) as he does when he can choose for himself.

My favorites remain the black and whites by the mirror...I think.

VF will always try to present an unbiased, intelligent viewpoint, and yes that means some occasionally critical observations. Same with The Times (UK) -- I find myself dreading their article on him, when it comes (and it will). I'll admit that I don't like to hear any disparaging comments about my dear Rob.

We are a diverse group of Robsessors and some will find VF's article offensive while others will chuckle and nod. Peace ladies, peace. Let us come together in worship for the one true gorgeous-osity that is ROB. Hallelujah.

SluttyPattz said...

For the Love of Rob -- I am going to wait until the entire article comes out to form an opinion.

I Love the PICS. I had two phone calls this morning before 9am EST from friends out of state telling me to log into Robsessed and check out the pics. His fans are devoted that's for sure.

Loisada said...

Rosa, I agree. I don't mind that the writer isn't a sychophant and is willing to show Rob's warts, but there is an underlying tone here that hints he's a sloven, drunken flash in the pan. And choosing to include CH's quote is not objective observation... it's bringing in evidence to illustrate a thesis. The fact this excerpt isn't particularly well written or clever only makes matters worse.

I so wanted to read an interview with some insight and a clever bite... hope the full article has much more to offer. Cringing here.

Im not fussed with an article about Rob that isnt praising him up to the heavens and back.

On the countrary, Im tired of all the same stuff with "oh Edward Cullen, Heartthrob, hair, Robsten" whatever nonsense. I sometimes feel like losing IQ points if I dont get a more critical and real insight into a topic compared to the ever lasting praise.

VF is not the NY Times but Im more than happy that someone tries to write another opinion instead of the same old.

Its another opinion after all, and if the writer thinks that Rob is flavor of the month, so be it. Its his opinion, I dont need to share it but I can aknowledge it if the journalist comes up with some good arguments on it :)

EllaLove said...

Rob's tone in this interview makes me sad - he has to hide from the world and is constantly worried - not good. He sounds to me like he really needs some stability in his life - maybe acting is not such a good match for him at this point in his life. God knows he's beautiful in these shots but the gleam in his eye seems a bit burnt out. I wish him luck and I hope that he finds lots of love and happiness. I agree with Gozde about the tone of the article. VF has always written pretty hard core articles - they are definitely not fluffy!
BTW, am I the only one who had dreams about Rob after seeing these shots last night. lol :)

RPnKSaddict said...

I have to say I love the pics from this shoot.
As for the article, I'm not overly suprised at the state of his room, he's a self proclaimed slob. He likes to drink, he's a 23 year old guy and he's also stated that having a drink on a daily basis where he's from is not unusual.

The thing is I don't care so much about all of that as long as he's happy and coping with the whirlwind that is his life.

I'm going to sit back and enjoy his pictures and his movies and pretty much anything I can get my hands on where he's concerned.

I tend to take any article with a grain of salt and rely more on the live interviews with him. Could partly be that I love to hear his voice...but I digress....

enjoy the pics and pray for an hour long be hind the scenes video of the photo shoot.

Have a great Rob filled day!!!

Molly said...

The interview was conducted in early June 2009. From what I've read the article isn't anything special. I don't Rob exactly denied a relationship with Kristen. If he had, the reporter would have put it in quotes. He said "it doesn't matter what you tell the tabloids..." so, I don't take that as any kind of denial. Of course, I'm so pro-Kristen and Rob that maybe I am reading into things. It just seems like the writer is making assumptions and reporting it as fact. Too bad because VF is usually a pretty good magazien.

GiGi said...

Ok, there we have it. He is not with Kristen...I never thought they were together anyway. Everyone needs to take what he says and believe it...OK??
As for the drunk thing...he's 23 years old and British! Geez! I work with 2 British dudes...they drink like fishes and this is very NORMAL for them! As they got older they said, they stopped doing that so much, but when they were young..they said drinking was like breathing to them!
Also, on the messiness....shit...my son is 21 and is the exact same way! His room is a stinking mess all the time! I am always on him to clean it up and put on clean clothes even! It's the AGE!!! Don't worry about Rob...he's a normal guy his age doing all that messy drinking stuff! He'll outgrow that someday!

Well, I just some some articles about the actual article, and it sounds like the writer actually does some robsten speculating herself. lol Basically, those who have looked at the piece say she gives what he says on the record of being just good friends. Then mentions CH quotes, and her own observations of what she sees as calculating behavior at CC. Her analysis at the end is she isn't sure if they are or aren't, but sorta presents just what she sees against what he says.

Just thought I'd mention that, since it seems eve VF is not above robsten speculation. Hey, the economy is tough right now!lol

yeah, riley, just saw that too. The writer chick says that robert and kristen have "mastered" a no touching stance in public while watching them at CC and then does some relationship speculation. HAHAHAH, she'd fit right in with the gals at the AT boards! Body language analysis coming atcha, compliments of VF! Too funny.....

Unknown said...

Here's some Ted. C worthy VF quotes:

But then it's right back to Rob and Kristen's secret relationship. "She and Pattinson have mastered the not-touching thing," the writer says of their Comic-Con interaction. "She even throws the crowd a few curveballs by over-flirting with muscle-bound Taylor Lautner."

"It's very likely that their off-screen relationship mirrored their on-screen one: an intense attraction that couldn't be realized. During the shoot, Stewart was with her long-term boyfriend, actor Michael Angarano."

Dude, that last quote soundsd like fanfiction, didn't someone mention fanfiction earlier?lol

ERIN:

Ok, so a quick preface. I swear I am so not that fan... its just so hard when he is out playing in my city. But still, I agree with @Kstew411 when she tells the crazy hotel stalkers and such to "die in a fire" cuz, yeh, thats just weird. Moving on...

The night of RonR, I was standing at front before Robsten showed up, it was early in NM and they were sooo much more public then. I saw Rob like eleven times, a few even completely on accident back then. It was sad and hilarious all at the same time the difference between NM and E. Anyhow, that night they were about five ft from me (im sadly looking very dishovelled in some of the pix of them, I was that close) And at one point a few girls jumped up on the stage to dance with Sam and guitarist... and Kris was schmammered (who wouldnt be at 19 and legal here) and she put her foot up to get up on the stage and dance with sam too. Rob, who had been very quietly standing with hood over his head, holding his beer and bobbing head to music merely looked up, saw what Kris was doing, reached his left arm out and grabbed the back of her sweatshirt and pulled her back toward him. He shook his head, "no" at her and gave her an adorably stern eyebrow look. i was trying to watch without watching ya know. But as he pulled her back toward him she kinda leaned into his arm and it curled around her. ::POOF:: Pap pic and headline: "Robsten spotted kissing at bar" --- not really what happened at all, but what do they care lol. Shortly there after they slipped out back and ended up at Elixar/Opus. Which I caught wind of but remarkably the papz didnt. Hence we were outside and they werent. Dont forget at this stage of the game we were only dealing with amateur locals. Me and my friend quickly realised we seemed a tad creepy across the street if we slunk outta shadows and asked for a pic or something lame. So we didnt. Bars were just shutting down so there were others around. Just not paying attn to them. A totally diff time.... unfortunately. But it was windy, wind whippd Kris hair across her face, rob swept it back with his finger, tucked that piece of hair behind her ear and literally I could not stop staring, it was sooo endearing. And winked/drunk smirked at her and his hand just lingerd in the sweetest way ever on her cheek. It was fucken adorable. It was a small gesture but she was talking to Sam's gf and didnt even stop her sentence, it was just a natural encounter. he was standing there smoking and talking to Sam and one of Sam's bandmates. But it was something about the way Rob's hand lingered on Kris's cheek afterward that made me and my girlfriend just convinced. It was tender and sweet. And uhm... awkward Rob but, thanks for the fucken hot visual and the confirmation that you are so tender cuz... yeah.... may or may not use that knowledge for evil. My appologies to Rob ;)

I’m astonished at my heart’s capacity to be able to handle all of these photos. His beauty inside and out is something I fail to articulate even as I try. The only means of self expression I feel I have left when it comes to Rob are heartbeats, whimpers, sighs, smiles, longing and chewed up lips. He strips my soul bare.

I've read a lot of the excerpts of this article, and I have to say I absolutely hate it. The only good thing will be the pics. That writer can go to hell for giving any potential Rob fan a horrible impression of this incredible young man.

solas said...

tgill-it is a good question re CH. It used to seem that she could not keep her hands off of him, that she adored him, and I don't think it worked the other way. Rob is also profuse with his praise for and compatibility with Chris Weitz, and the comparisons (by Rob and I think the whole rest of the cast) between/about the 2 sets and directors make it clear that Weitz is the preferred and that he knew what he was doing, etc. CH might be hurt.
There is also the possibility that CH felt she made Rob a star by giving him the role and the way she directed and listened to him, and it is possible; I am certainly grateful she developed the cast she did. She may feel he is ungrateful specifically to her.
As for the article, it is as Rob says--they will print what they want anyway.
I hope his mother doesn't read it.

solas said...

Also-- I have never read VAnity Fair yet I had the impression from this site that it is a reputable magazine and that everyone was looking forward to a real interview as opposed to the garbage wiped across the toilet paper editions.
So: IS VF fair and reputable and if so why are people slamming it? or WAS it fair and reputable and suddenly is not, re Rob? What is really going on here>?
I personally wonder about writers who report on what they see and then give spins that seem more like rumour-mongering. On the other hand, even though I do not adore or pine for the lad the way most apparently do, I am not sure I could be objective if writing about him. I just find him so adorable and talented. :-)

If Rob keeps denying the rumors, then why is it so hard to believe him? Why at this point would they hide their romance (if there even is one). The comment from "erin" sure makes you think twice, but if they are very close friends, and he's a tender sweet guy, perhaps thats just how he is....still dosent prove they are together. I guess only time will tell!

Gossip Cop looked into the backstory of the denials. Apparently, both Rob and Kristen denied it in July. But with some of the events that have taken place since then, the writer of the VF recontacted both their maganagment to see if the status of the relationship was still as they described it in July. Both K and R's people answered by offering a no comment on the current status.

Obviously this can be taken either way. That due to the promotional timing of NM, they may not want to comment. Or else, something has indeed changed, and they aren't going to comment on that change.

Take it for what you will.

Marna said...

Wow, I'm completely thrown by how many people are pissed off by the article because they think it has a bad tone. Do you think the interviewer is lying about what his room looked like? Or are you pissed she didn't sugar coat things for you? You're projecting what you want him to be instead of dealing with what he really is (which since none of us know him, we have no idea). I have no doubt his room is messy, what I can't understand is since he's in a hotel, why he didn't have the maid service come in to clean it.

As for CH's remark about him being drunk every night, how do you know he wasn't? Saying "Rob wouldn't do that" is riduclous, how do you know he wouldn't? I remember when he was filming RM & someone got to go into his trailer, they said there were beer bottles all over the place so this is not the first time something like this was mentioned. Just because you don't want hime to get drunk, doesn't mean he isn't.

And as I posted in another thread, I hope the full article contains an absolute denial or confirmation of his relationship with Kirstin in a direct quote from him because I am sick of the arguments.

Marna--I mentioned bad tone, but gave a specific reason for that assertion. The article is framed by comparing Robert to Leo. My point is that in some ways Robert pulls ahead(not banging model after model, no pussy possee), but the implications are he is in over his head too, unlike Leo.

My initial concerns had nothing to do with a messy room at all. It's not about projecting some false persona onto him either.

That's why I used tone, and not falsities or something. Tone is implying more what is used to shape the portrait of him and the subsequent analysis of that portrait.

I've read more excerpts since that initial panic attack of mine(lol), and to be honest, I think my initial concerns were accurate.

It's not a earth scorching interview by any means, but somewhat gives the same narrative the GQ interview did a year ago.

ps: I loved the GQ article by the way. But my point again is about shaping the "story" of the interview. Make no mistake, this is not some dry interview transcription. The interviews are shaped into a sort of narrative. And I simply saw red flags with the curious comparisons to Leo, and the whole "hot gleaming" theme. Take the Leo comparison with hot flash in the pan visuals, and I thought the narrative could be gleaned from that possibly.

Hey marna I"m in the bad tone cateogory too. Here's the deal--Robert's self deprecating and has a very dry wit. By wondering about the tone, does an interviewer translate those qualities about him into her story? Or does she not translate it well, and what we have left is an image of Robert sounding like an crippling neurotic drunk who is having an anxiety attack every two minutes?

Cause VF and GQ both covered similar themes about Robert and his character. And yet the tone of each article is quite different. Both deal with him and his love of the liquor and using it as a social lubricant and bravado maker(along with valium in GQ!) for instance. But the tone of each article comes off differently.

It's about degrees really, and sometimes the tone can be off just a tad, and yet make all the difference. I've check out other board reactions, and the common reaction to the article? "Robert is such a great guy, he really has a drinking problem though.(along with some commentary on his neuroses)" You didn't get that sort of consensus from the GQ article, because the tone was lighter.

Molly said...

WOW! I'm surprised how many of you think this is such a negative article. So his room is messy. How many 23 year old straight guys do you know with clean rooms or apartments? And he has beer bottles laying around? Oh No! Again, do you know any men in their early 20's? If so, this shouldn't be anything you haven't seen before. Its called being normal. As for Catherine's comments, who knows where she's coming from? Saying he was drunk every night wasn't that cool but its hardly the worst thing in the world. I just don't think this article is as negatively slanted as many others seem to think.

Candeecarol said...

OMG these photos are fabulous! *dies* I like the more natural ones best, not so posed with sweaters wrapped around him and whatever. The article, well I think it's so cute and NORMAL about his messy room. It was so funny that he apologized for not making his bed when the rest of the room was totaled! I heard him say in a vid once that his room is a disaster and he shrugged his shoulders and said something like, so what, I don't care, I really don't care!

Candeecarol said...

The quote about Kristen and his hotel room sounds old. I heard him say that one before! And about being across the country and the tabloids say they are on a secret date, I know I read that before somewhere. It's so obvious that they are a couple with the Kings of Leon concert and going up in the elevator together etc. But I think they're right not to discuss it. It's private and whatever they say would just come back to bite them in the ass!

Rob justs gets more beautiful with each picture. I anxiously await the VF article; I sincerely hope it doesn't paint him in a bad light. The poor man can't win. First nobody wanted him to portray Edward Cullen, now millions of people won't leave him alone. Then to add insult to injury, the tabloids have linked his entire career to him. He comes across as a sincere, humble artist who really wasn't ready for this level of fame. But who is? I like that he's a regular guy. My husband, who is also from London, says he feels sorry for him and the way he has to live under a microscope now. As much as it pains me to say, I'd rather him return to London and be happy then to God forbid watch him burn out due to the hollywood machine. Gee...I must really love him. LOL
