Robert Pattinson is"The Most in Demand Actor of the Generation"

Heart-throbs! Hollywood's leading leading men

Vampiric British star Robert Pattinson leads the pack of young actors who set teenage hearts a-flutter. And he can act, too

He has set millions of teenage hearts a-flutter and now the Twilight star Robert Pattinson is raising pulses among film executives keen to cash in on his profile.

The 23-year-old heart-throb, whose appearance this week at the premiere of New Moon – the second-screen instalment of Stephenie Meyer's four-book vampire saga – caused mass hysteria among British fans young and old, is joining an exclusive Hollywood club of leading men believed by industry insiders to be able to carry a film.

The first adaptation in the series, Twilight, last year topped the UK box office with a £2.5m opening weekend. Movie bosses will be hoping Pattinson's popularity and the current vogue for all things vampire, fuelled by TV shows such as True Blood, can help New Moon to an even better showing.

But it remains to be seen whether the growing legion of bright young things, including the Twilight talent and High School Musical's Zac Efron, all have the acting ability to match the cinematic eye-candy status.

Hollywood's Holy Grail is to find young talent that can emulate established stars such as George Clooney and Brad Pitt, who cemented their careers by balancing roles showcasing their good looks with those highlighting their acting abilities.

The veteran film critic Barry Norman said there was a danger of young actors being type-cast if they stuck to the teenage "popcorn" genre. "It's an easy route for the young and the pretty, but I don't think necessarily that is going to be a good springboard to launch a long career," he said.

Tatiana Siegel, a reporter for Variety who covers castings at the four major film studies in Los Angeles, said British hunk Pattinson was "the most in-demand actor of the generation". She added: "Now the trend in Hollywood is not so much to have an actor who carries the movies, but a brand, like Twilight. Robert Pattinson is one of the few actors that the studios can build a movie around."

His co-star, Taylor Lautner, is also hot property. The 17-year-old piled on 30lbs of muscle for his role as the werewolf Jacob Black. He has been quoted as saying he would never take his shirt off on-screen again, but teenage girls breathed a sigh of relief this week when he denied the comment, adding that he would strip off if the role required it.

Robert Pattinson

Pattinson, 23, found screen success in 2005 as ill-fated Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but it is his Twilight role as vampire boy Edward Cullen that has infected teenage girls with the Pattinson bug. "He's got that interesting sort of dirty handsomeness which seems to polarise girls," says Jay Fernandez of Hollywood Reporter. "Some say he really needs to take a shower, and some are really attracted to that."

I love that he's in such demand... And he has said it's amazing all if a sudden he doesn't have to audition anymore...
But, he's also said he likes to audition so that he knows he cam bring something to a character.

I trust his judgement that he will still continue to be choosy in his choices and that he won't make a movie just because it will be a money maker!!

Rob, babe you can make or decline anything you want at this point! I'm so proud of you!

Maybe women want a REAL MAN! instead of a guy thats metrosexual. I think his being a little scruffy makes him more touchable, and he's so charasmatic. The sexy guy next door! LOVE HIM!!!

yeah one of his biggest complaints was that there wasnt any good roles out there. I agree the movies are gonna see a big pick up in sales and the fact that hes such a hardworker and so professional is gonna reap rewards.Ive said it before-hes gonna get an oscar! I would have loved to seem him play in that movie THE PIANIST. That role was just made for him.

Rob's appeal transcended the teens and tweens long ago. His incredible presence on screen and off continues to garner fans who are older, more mature, and spend way more $ than the teens and tweens can ever hope to spend. Reading comments like Barry Norman's is one more example of someone in the media who simply is out-of-touch with Rob's fan base who will remain rabidly loyal due to his skill as an actor, his unique personality that is so touching, and his photogenic face and body. Teens and tweens may have a propensity to stand outside in any weather to catch a glimpse of him and then stand in other long lines to do the same thing. His other fans who work during the day and are just a little older can experience the highlights of any event by checking out this site and benefitting from the hard work of the ladies of ROBsessed who offer up the articles and videos for us in a timely manner.

Rob will be around for as long as he wants to be - and as long as he's there, so shall we be. Will Barry Norman be there as long as that? We'll see.

He needs to take a shower? SRSLY?

Ummm...the hot water tap has been running at my house for over a year! I have only been too willing to dispel the myths of his lack of hygiene, his dandruff, and his dirty clothes....

My water company loves both me and Rob Pattinson....

Shave?!?! Oh, I think not. That jaw + scruff = DIED ;-p

Mhmm. Rob will go far in this industry and the best part about all of it is...it won't change who he is. Others have taken the low road and jumped on board the money train. They want to know what they can get and who's gonna give it to them.
This man is set in his ways...almost has an old soul in a young mans body. He should be looked at as a role model for teens everywhere...although I believe his biggest fan base is OLDER.
He has proven to not be changed by the money or the fame. I want to hug him, pinch his cheeks, kiss him and slap him on the @ss for the great job he is doing with all of it.
Oh, and Rob, could you please shave....a little. I love scruff but this one is a bit much. *smooches*

I know ya'll are going to think I'm crazy but I don't think he should do Unbound Captives......even though it is with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weiss.......it will be totally in Comanche and have subtitles and he is not the STAR......I want to see him starring in stuff now and being the leading man. Just sayin'

oh-oh. I read the UC script, and I'm interested how will he do the role. It's not matter that he is not the leading man in this,I think, but it's an uncommon, coriuos role for him. O, wish I could known better english 4 I have too much though, and have no words for them !

I hope and trust that Rob will have the strength to pick only roles that are good for himself, and not give in to the industry need for a face or name to carry a movie if it is not a movie he does not want to do.

sorry--too many negatives above! I meant,'... if it is not a movie he wants to do.' or-- if it is a movie he does not want to do.
I am sure you all got it.

Unbound Captives would be perfect for him, he won't be a star yes but that is exactly what he needs right now, he needs to lay low a bit after all the hype he got leading Twilight. He would share the screen with two of the most popular and good actors in the industry, and I think he will learn something from THEM.

You know how he said he loves New Moon because he stars less there, I think he would feel that way in Unbound Captive, and it would be kind of interesting to hear Rob's voice on a different tone and language, don't you think? In my case I just love how he is able to speak in different accents, like his perfect American accent, it shows his ability to adapt to different characters effectively, like Johnny Depp.

I think that it would simply be a combination of Robert's presence/charisma/talent and the script. Robert can't carry a movie, if the movie has a storyline that sucks or that is boring (many of the movies of today fall in these categories).

The reason why Twilight was such a success was that it has a great story, and it is refreshingly romantic. Not the normal/boring generic cynical movies. The Twilight saga has depth, darkness, light, suspense, some action, and most importantly great romance at it's heart.

If Robert can find more good stories to star in, with his presence and charisma it would be a smash hit. He has the looks and the talent, now all he and studio needs is an actually good and refreshing movie away from all the hollywood cynicism. I say a decent/interesting storyline and Robert in a movie is a WIN.

Sometime ago Rob said his chest hair had the texture of early pubes and now every time I see them that is all I can think about... It wouldn't be so bad if they reminded me of specific pubes, like his, but they don't. I just see random generic pubes...And now you will too. Damn you and your witty (often inappropriate) witty banter.
