It’s Official: “New Moon” Even More Dominant Than Estimated

From Gossip Cop
It’s official.

Over the weekend Gossip Cop reported box office estimates, but now the numbers are final. Sources at Summit Entertainment tell us “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” grossed an astonishing $142.8 million over its first three days, for a $35,497 average on 4,024 screens.

Despite the tremendous numbers, a spokesman for Summit says there’s “no announcement planned” for a potential “Breaking Dawn” production.

they better make that announcement, and soon. With the other absolutely craptastic movies that Summit produces, they would be seriously ludicrous to not make it. I actually think people would riot the streets. (I would)

I would love for them to do Breaking Dawn. That one would definately be rated R.

Thelma,
I would join you in the riot. :P

WTF! I guess Stephanie Meyer must not be happy with what Summit plans? I also read on some foreign translation post that Rob wasn't going to do BD! I wish these people would get their crap together-I am just as bad though spreading a OKAY magazine like rumor-sorry! Come on Summit you are now rolling in money it is time to act like a big boy -or girl, studio!!!!!

Wouldn't it be funny if it was already filmed & they managed to keep it quiet? LOL

I read on Stephenie Meyer's website that she was still in talks with Summit about BD. So there may be some kind of issue she's not happy with...like making it rated "R" for example (my theory) because she is Mormon after all. But the story is begging to be rated "R", what with Bella and Edward getting married and consumating their love not to mention all the vampire sex afterward, how can it not be? (I know, I know. This is just me wanting Rob naked, I know. But a woman can dream, can't she)
Regardless, this NEEDS to get made so, how can it not? It would make no sense to start a series and not finish it and I, too, don't doubt the fans would revolt, big time!

I am happy for the director, cast and crew in that it does validate their work and offer a certain amount of vindication after all the bashing from critics.

I'm glad that Rob seems to be pleased that so many people have "embraced" his work. But knowing his standards and values, I'd guess Rob would rather have had NM garner less money but better reviews. The bright side to "money talks" is that box office reflects love from the fans. So bask in the love all you can, Rob!

As for BD: maybe Rob and Kris are hesitating because it such a bad book and they want some kind of script approval? It could be a godawful movie that they wouldn't want to be associated with. And SM surely has her own agenda. This could be a difficult deal to cut.

honestly, I can't imagine them passing up on the profit that would be Breaking Dawn. I think, as usual, Summit is just trying to whip the fans into an even bigger frenzy.

I can't believe that anyone in the cast would refuse to make it, especially not the big 3-they will want to see it through to the end.

And, I seriously don't believe that it will be a rated R movie. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it! But considering the multitude of young fans this franchise has, I don't believe that they would make it so the kids can't go and see it.

Just my 2 cents... :)

Summit is taking its time to see the
profitability of making more Twi-saga movies after NM and Eclipse.
Good, NM has already broke even and made a very good return on its investment. But will it last longer at the box office or will it fizzle down after the 1st weekend? Twilight suffered that fate. In the meantime, Summit has to make sure that Twi-saga has not reached it's saturation point yet before making another one. That's good business sense.

Twilight made another 122 million dom, or roughly 65% of its total take, after its opening weekend,. If they get that kind of 'fizzle' for NM I think all will be happy.

Twilight made it to #100 in the All-time Box Office Hits of 1000.

Titanic is #1 and The Dark K is #2. The difference lies in the increased of ticket sales after the opening week.

Twilight was never in the same realm as Titanic or DKnight, and not expected to be. Look at their respective budgets. The fact that NM has performed as it has already exceeds expectation. If it continues to follow Twilight's track, it will do very decent numbers.

And Summit is making Breaking Dawn, or Dawns, depending on who you listen to, lol. You don't kill the goose...
