Robert Pattinson : 44th Most Influential Man According to AskMen

I think he is the 2nd most influential man in MY life :) Himmm....

From Ajax World Magazine:

AskMen.com the world's largest lifestyle portal for men with more than 11 million visitors monthly, revealed its highly anticipated 4th annual reader-voted list of the Top 49 Most Influential Men of 2009 today.

The list assembles a diverse collection of men from around the world and from a variety of industries including entertainment, politics, technology, and sports. All the honorees had a direct effect on the way men see the world, and notably in 2009, many reflect classic values that are most meaningful to the male identity today.

"In a turbulent 2009, men are seeking the stability of tradition in the masculine qualities that they imagine their fathers and grandfathers to have had," says James Bassil, Editor-in-Chief of AskMen.com. "The character of Don Draper brings all these traits together, and in doing so speaks directly to the modern man. He's a man whose time has come."

Others on the list embody a host of classic qualities; Usain Bolt as the personification of competitive and athletic ability, President Barack Obama as the male portrait of classic statesmanship, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs as pillars of entrepreneurial spirit and determination.

From AskMen.com :

The success of a little movie called Twilight turned Robert Pattinson into the British vampire equivalent of a young Brad Pitt. He's impossible to avoid. In 2009, he crashed the Academy Awards to present the Oscar for Best Romantic Feature, and then showed up at the MTV Movie Awards to accept three awards: Breakthrough Performance Male, Best Fight and Best Kiss, which he shared with his costar Kristen Stewart (rumored to be his real-life romantic interest as well).

The Twilight mania followed Robert Pattinson to Vancouver, B.C., for the filming of the second installment in the saga, New Moon. When he wasn't sharing screen time with his hot costars Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene and Bryce Dallas Howard, he was using bodyguards to protect him from the advances of adoring women, some of whom had traveled to the city in hopes of meeting him. It wasn't any easier for Robert Pattinson in New York, during the filming of 2010's Remember Me. He couldn't avoid the eyes of AskMen.com editors when we spotted him at the posh NYC clubs, and he nearly got smacked by a taxi cab when a mob of screaming fans gave chase. It's not easy being Hollywood's latest hunky vampire.

Thanks KStewDevotee for the link :)

oh MY !!even considering my husband and 2 kids... ROB is the 1st!! LMAO!!!!!

This is a serious question--please don't laugh or yell at me or throw things--but I am wondering if each/all/some of you can explain how Rob has been influential in your lives. How has he influenced you? Has he made changes in how you live, think, etc? I like to understand things, especially human behaviour. Many thanks in advance for anyone who will explain. :-)

only 44? Please, do you know how many men got laid well last year and this year because of the twilight movie and more specifically Robert as Edward and his amazing influence on the female libido? Please, he deserves at least a top 20 spot for that alone.

solas: He influences me to want to make out with my husband more. lol Other than that, he's just a fun hologram in my life and a great momentary distraction here several times a day..

Screw that! He is #1 in our book!
Things that have gone up in saless due to Robert Pattinson-
1.Hair Gel for the Perfet Bouffant
2.Cheap Fake Stoli T-Shirts :)
3.RayBans
4.Theatrical White Make-Up
5-Hobolicious Clothes

All from wannabe Robwards :D

How is that not extremely influential?!

Holy NEW BANNER!!! Sweet..THUD.

solas said...

Karina--thanks so much! That was interesting and helpful! I would like to understand that more (how he makes you want to make out with your husband more) but I realize this is not the appropriate place for it. But thanks for that insight!

solas said...

MSR--thanks; that was interesting! Although to me, the idea of Rob wanna-be-s is ironic, since (to me, at least) so much of Rob's charm is himSELF, not a copy of anyone else. Although I am not so familiar with 'famous' people, to me, despite the fact that Rob has said he admires or tried making the faces of, or voice of, actors like Jack Nicholson and James Dean, Rob is an original.

Thanks - enjoying the gifs. Always do.

Rob's influence: I now post comments at a fansite all about obsession. Wherefore....I know not! lol

solas said...

Yes, A!!! I certainly have never done this before! But is that an influence, or an effect?

Defiently number 1 in my life!!!! LOVE the new banner!!! YUM!

Robs influence: makes me respect what the papparazi do to ppl and only visit reputable sites such as this one.

Gives me a lot more to chat about with co-workers and friends.

Made me want to see other films he has done such as little ashes and how to be.

Introduced me to Sam Bradley and Marcus Foster's music to which I am forever grateful.

I think I read more in general b/c of him whether its posts here, fan fiction, books in general.

SluttyPattz said...

When I said respect the papparazi I meant "what they do to people" not that I respect them. I am truly a PAPZ HATER.

solas said...

Teri--thanks=-that was so clear to me! Being the stimulus/catylist of change that gets people to read, appreciate different music, open to different types of film, and sharper awareness of noxious entities (like paps) in the world, really DOES sound like an influence!! Thanks so much for your insights!!!

rpattz-turn-me-on said...

i think its from his 'Persona' not the man himself is what they are referring to,
because no one knows the real Rob,
so the influence they are getting is from their idea of who they think he is.....@solas great question :-)

@ Solas - %&*#@$* argh, I want to join the discussion on Rob's influence (cause?) and effect right now, but I've got to do something else. (Thank you for picking our brain once in a while.)

---------------
Thanks to Goz, et al for this site. People can join in/introduce any fun, mundane and/or serious rumblings/musings-- with Rob as the common thread (or catalyst) 24/7. :)

Anonymous said...

Oh, people are also free to introduce/discuss delightful ladies' sites/topics.)

(..hardly being reminded of Robsessed Code of Appropriate Crassness.)

:)

solas said...

Thansa--I don't understand that. ("Robsessed Code of Appropriate Crassness.")
Is that sarcasm? Humour?

I would love for you to join in discussion of influence/cause/effect. I like picking/stimulating brains. :-) And I like to learn and understand perspectives--and these American(?) phrases!

RPTMO- Do you think it is merely a persona that we see of ROb? That he is acting even in interviews, only letting a version of himself, or a version of what he would like to be or portray, rather than himself? (Although even that would reflect something of the real self, if only to say that there is no real self yet and he is finding himself, experimenting and exploring who he is, or there is a real self and that he is keeping it very cleverly hidden.)

Wow! This gif breaks my heart. How many moons ago was this?! This ship has certainly sailed, when fans were able to be that close to a carefree, happy and laughing Rob.

MMc said...

Go to askmen.com and vote for Rob - we might be able to move him up from 44th!!!!!!

@solas

I think the influence Rob has over women is that we all want to be protected and adored and he does it so tenderly with Kristen in Twilight and in real life it seems. Rob's gorgeous of course, but his musical and acting talent is that of a tortured soul and women like to protect and take care of a man too........so he fulfills two things we like (actually many more but.....)
1. To be taken care of and adored.
2. To take care of and adore someone.

JMHO however.

solas said...

Ok femroc; thanks for those insights. I am not sure they were what I had in mind about influence, but if a person is influenced to be protected, or to protect, I guess that fits!
I personally worry about the enmeshment of Rob the person with Edward the character, where people transfer what they need from the character to the person, and think Rob, the person, can deliver what Edward does or implies.
On the other hand, it appears to me, from watching and reading interviews, that Rob is a very interesting, talented, and beautiful person on his own, and that is one of the areas that interests me about the influence: Is he (his talent, his personality, his tone of voice, his attitude, his observations and pensiveness, his beauty; any and all combinations thereof) such a rarity that only this person with this particular permutation of attributes can elicit the responses and influence actions, attitudes, etc., that are being expressed (and measured by AskMen) or is the Edward character visavis the needs you noted (need to be protected and adored, etc) the one influencing? or both?
ps-- although I have a need to be protected, I don't need to be adored, and I absolutely loathe the paternalistic, patronizing, overbearing, and controlling behaviour Edward sometimes elicits (especially in Eclipse) and I personally don't have a need to be protected by someone younger than my kids (unless maybe a policeman or soldier), although I do have the need to protect.

Oh--and Gozde-- I was watching a television show on the internet (I don't have actual TV) and actually heard the term Debbie Downer! Thanks so much for introducing me to that term!
