Stacy, I could see that. Why not? Rob and Nikki (to a lesser extent) are both young and beautiful, I could see something happening there. (And both Tauruses, very similar, if you believe in that sort of thing.)
Yup Showme...Rob is not devious, per se, but I do believe he's a man with a plan. He comes across all doofy and clueless but I don't buy it. He knows what he wants, he's patient, he's stubborn. Notice how he seems to GET what he wants? (And a whole lot more than he bargained for, sometimes!) hmmmm....

I don't know, it might not have been that torturous for her for awhile. I honestly think she truly loved MA and probably didn't even think she was on the fence for a long time, if that makes sense.

I agree - I think Rob is shy and awkward and all the things that endear him to us, but I also think he's savvy and knows how to get what he wants. I also think he tends to fixate on things until he gets them, lol, but that's a whole other story.

Who knows. Maybe it's not a problem and we're speculating too much. It's been known to happen. haha K, N, R, and Mike have a weird dynamic. Kristen actually met Nikki a few years ago when Mike worked with her on the Lords of Dogtown film. Then Rob fits into that mix in one form or another. No idea how Mike and Rob feel about each other.

Showme - You honed in on part of the issue. So many women can't imagine NOT wanting Rob themselves that they can't imagine any other woman not wanting him. I agree that he seems pretty cool, but many, many comments from others (and himself) made over the last year make me think he is a bit....eccentric.

OMG showme...that audio thing is priceless. Man, I hope this whole R/K thing doesn't mean we get no audio commentary on New Moon. Because it might go something like this:
"Oh yeah, after shooting that day we went out and got smashed at that bar and started making out."
"I remember that day...that was the day that you told me you couldn't resist me anymore and we went back to the hotel and...oh never mind."
"Oh, this scene was really memorable because we re-enacted it later naked in the hot-tub."

But living everday with an eccentric personality (as lovers) sometimes is different than as friends. That's all I'm saying. But I do view Rob a little differently than many of you do, and I may be viewing him unfairly.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices that it's pretty obvious he didn't think much of her directing or vision for the film.
KK - I completely agree. For those of us who are totally Robsessed (and who don't have the opportunity of seeing him, knowing him, etc) he is an enigma, and it's impossible for us to imagine having the chance to get to know him without wanting to be all over him, because we are such fans and because we've sort of put him on a pedestal. Does that make sense?
But Kristen met him as just another actor, and while there may have been sparks, she wasn't a fan and wasn't admiring him from a far like we do, so it was probably much easier for her to see him more clearly and all his quirks. Who knows when her switch got turned, assuming it did. For all his beauty (which is always in the eye of the beholder) it may have been his personality that did it.
Oh yeah Stace...Rob totally took the piss out of the movie, himself, Catherine...only Kristen was spared.

That's because a lot of Twilight is crap, sadly, thinks to CH, lack of budget, and in part, Kristen's acting. Rob's wasn't perfect either tho, and they both need to bring it for the rest of them.

the only scene i don't think he pulled off was the confrontation at the baseball game...

Regarding Twilight ... yes, the script wasn't great, but having read MR's script for NM, I fully buy into the theory that CH made big changes to the Twilight script to fit her brand of quirkiness, because the NM script is much better and closer to the book. The changes in it are something that COULD have happened in the book, instead of Edward taking Bella up a tree, something his overprotective ass never would have done.
RE the acting. I think Rob's other fail was when he first smells her in the bio room. That was laughable, and I blame CH, cause it's her job to tell him when he looks like an ass in a scene, and she sure didn't do that!

My take on Rob's overacting in those scenes though goes back to "Midnight Sun"...Steph gave Rob that to read, and in it, she makes the first time Edward smelled Bella akin to the apocolypse or something. If he was overacting, I think he was trying to capture just what torture it was for Edward, even if it made no sense to anyone else.

Hey, who was saying on here that they always think of Rob as just "Rob," but with other celebs it's always the whole name, 'Brad Pitt', 'Tom Cruise.' That is so true. And then that British GQ guy was saying it ... how all the women were writing in talking about how "Rob" appeals to all ages.
What is it that makes us feel so "familiar" with this guy? I think it's those zillions of interviews he did in which he was so completely candid, open and honest, and let the world see his personality in all its adorable, quirky, oddball glory. A/LA: those are wise reminders, especially in G and D's absence.
Leann: As for improvements in NM over Twilight, I blame the book and script much more than the direction for many of the film's missteps. They tried to stay too close to some of the corniest (sorry SM lovers!!!) ideas and lines in the book. Perhaps it was the price that had to be paid to get it on film, but IMOP no one could have pulled off many of those lines. No one. And Bella's character in the book is a hopeless, depressed bore, unless you've read Midnight Sun and seen the qualities Edward idolizes in her. She's not much better in the script, so Kstew had her work cut out for her to make B even likeable in my mind. I'm probably one of the few who actually preferred the flawed film to the book!

I completely agree with what you said, and I think it's a bit of both. Of course when you like someone, you see what you want to see, but at the same time, I think Rob IS very complex, which is what makes him a little eccentric, and yet all the more lovable, lol.

I read once ( some psycho-babble) about why people like to watch the sam etv shows over and over....that the actors portraying the characters start to feel like family, and when we see them on tv, our brains recognize them as familiar and it seems like we know them.
SO, that said, I have stared at every possible photo, video, tv show of Rob that I can get my eyeballs on. It must be why we all feel like we know him. It's our mind playing tricks on us.
