The latest RPattz news? The "Twilight" star will play Irish actor Pierce Brosnan's son in the new movie, "Remember Me."
So how does Robert Pattinson's Irishness stack up next to County Meath-born Pierce Brosnan's?
Pretty well, according to all of us at IrishCentral, where we've decided to dub the vampire hottie an honorary Irishman (hey, it was Irishman Bram Stoker that wrote legendary vampire story "Dracula" anyhow).
Here are our top five excuses for calling Pattinson "Irish":
1. He idolizes legendary Irish singer Van Morrison
In fact, Pattinson is such a Van fan that he's dying to play him in a biopic (that is, if any studio ever decides to make one). He told MovieFone: "I'd love to play Van Morrison, but I doubt I would get the part." *Sigh* modest as always.
2. He claims to look like an "old, Irish alcoholic"
We established this when we posted bits from an RPattz interview with Metromix where he was asked why he stood out among the thousands of actors who auditioned for the role of Edward Cullen in "Twilight." Pattinson's answer: While most guys looked like "Greek gods," "I looked kind of like an old, Irish alcoholic." Amazing.
3. His last name is derived from St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland
The surname "Pattinson" is a patronymic form of the name "Pat," from "Patrick," which was chiefly used in Ireland and Scotland, and eventually spread to England, where the "Twilight" star is from. The popularity of the name came from the prominence of St. Patrick, 5th Century Apostle of Ireland. See, even history says RPattz has Irish roots.
4. He hangs out with IRELAND Baldwin
Photographic evidence, people:
Yeah, this is a stretch, but hey! Ireland Baldwin is named after the Emerald Isle, and she's Irish-American (dad Alec is an Irish Catholic).
5. Irish fans are petitioning for Pattinson to visit their country
Over 6,500 Irish (most likely teenage) Irish Pattinson fans have signed an online petition to bring their dreamboat across the pond to Ireland.
One petition signer comments: "hey ! Rob if you ever see this i just want to say everyone loves you in ireland. all you hear is people talking about you." About 10 other comments included the statement: "I would die if he came to Ireland."
Proof! According to the Irish themselves, Robert P. is most definitely qualified to be an honorary Irishman!
The official plea states: "Please Please sign! Help us get Robert Pattinson to Ireland.....he only lives across the pond!! Please.
"You don't need to be from Ireland to sign this petition but we need all the help we can get! We will help you in the future."
Desperate much? Nah - Ireland just has a lot of really enthusiastic RPattz fans, kind of like IrishCentral!

OMG the picture is priceless, can't stop LMAO
Ok, the first picture is just wrong, just wrong...hahaha..
LMAO @ the picture...but Rob SHOULD visit Ireland (although it wouldn't surprise me if he already has, pre Twilight time). Ireland rocks! The times I have been there I always had fun, but I learned my lession, don't EVER try to keep up with an Irishman when it comes to drinking. You will pay for it big time the next day..ouch lol.
Other than that I love the Irish LOL
love this video my new FAVE!!!
http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/foof76/video/x9ik8j_robert-pattinson-pictures-of-you_fun
See, he is already an Irishman with the Irish roots and all!! Duh, his last name does scream it.LOL. And as a fellow Irishman (about 75% Irish and 10% English), I can definitely agree with the drinking part. It's in the blood! I'll challenge Rob to a drinking contest any day; although it would certainly be SO much fun seeing who would win!!!!! Rob should visit Ireland, I hear it's beautiful there. Slance! Rob!!!!!
Lmao!! My dh's first name is Bram. His folks Dracula fans.
This pic is halarious.
Hey, the people in Great Britain need to stay fairly oblivious to Rob so that he can go back home and be left in peace there!
OK, only a couple of web articles, it's not the GB life-and-style publishes rubbish about him each week...
pattzy, thanks for the link. gahhh..his lips in those pics and vids - and his hands...(of course then there are the eyes and looonnggg legs)....
LOL!
Oh how I love us Irish getting props! ha!
Rob is most certainly an honorary Irishman but can he really drink like one? I'd take him on. See how many of Ireland's finest whiskey we could down! ha! Like milk to us ;)
Its funny how he's so well known over here but its so subtle. It certainly not as hyped as the US.
This was hilarios.. weird photoshop too hahahahahaha
And he must have something irish going on, because of the luck
I'm sure our sweet Kate has signed, right??? Kate you there???
Nice video Patzy - thanks for the link.

haha again how i love being part IRISH!!! this boy is great... well he's not really a boy and i don't turn 20 until half a year from now. then again i usually have celeb crushes on men who could be my father. he's just so witty and charming that he brought down the age minimum for me.
Bb needs to come back to London, so I can 'inconspicously' bump into him at th train station...
Stephen Moyer vamp actor from True Blood mention Rob is young star...
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118004832.html?categoryId=3644&cs=1
"I get the Robert Pattinson leave-offs," Moyer says with a laugh, referring to the young star of the hugely popular "Twilight" vampire movie franchise. "The ones who get to a certain point and think he's a boy. There's the Pattinson gang and the Moyer gang."
ok that first image is just CREEPY x's TEN!!!!
My eyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees
http://www.boxofficeprophets.com/column/index.cfm?columnID=11692
Pattinson's IMDb message board seems more crowded, and his Google News hits number at 5,602 to Efron's 3,708.
OMG LMAO that is just the funniest pic of Rob.
Hey btw Rpattznews is saying that they will show this poll tomorrow on EXTRA's show. It is way to close ...how about we all get on this vote and show them True blood fans who's the better vampire
http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2009/06/vote_who_is_the_hottest_vampir.php
that pic is gonna give me the most twisted nightmares ever...(shudders)
OMG that first pics is just WRONG!!! Ewwwwwwwwwww!
Goz who are you calling crazy?????
:-P And you know we love you too!!
Twi yeap I signed the petition(just now) didn't know a thing about it {blush} but OMG it would be so great if he came to visit and I don't think he'd have any problem keeping up with the drinking.
God we seem to have an awful rep everywhere for drinking LOL Sure Rob would be right at home and maybe he should bring Tom Stu too ;-)
wow creepiest pic ever lmao i live in tx, but i signed the petition for the sake of rob's irish lovers!!! i hope he treats you to a visit =P now if only he would make his way down south....
LOL at the manip. He'd have to hide his hands, but I'd let him have his way with me *snort*
Hey, they forgot that Rob has his hair dyed red to play Edward Cullen...which is an Irish name, no? Edward Cullen of the originally green eyes and bronze hair? (Maybe not...I don't know my Irish names that well!)
I'm all for Rob being an honorary Irishman and visiting the homeland of my favorite band of all time, U2. Rob and Bono can do a duet, then send flowers for my grave, as I would immediately expire from sheer ecstasy directly afterward.
I would, however, request that Rob NOT be dressed as The Leprechaun from that shiteous horror flick in which Jen Anniston got her dubious start in filmdom.
Sorry, I think if Rob saw this pic, he'd be so embarrassed; I know I am for him.
I'm with Win. :(
Yes, Leann, Cullen is an Irish name. DH's best friend back in MN. is a Cullen.
leann
come talk....now.
u too chi
TwilightMOMS interview Sam Bradley told the story about Sam and Rob were childhood about a zoo It is very cool story
http://www.twilightmoms.com/interviews/sam-bradley/
TM: So, how did you meet Rob?
Sam: I was working at the zoo and I was taking care of the chinchillas, obviously,. That was my division. And Rob was looking after the zebras. That’s it right? You say zebras [strong e] not zebras [soft e]? He was looking after the zebras and there was a lot of feces involved… a lot of scooping, and we were both on our break which is very rare…very rare (smiling) that we get a break at the same time but we met and we talked. I talked about my chinchillas and he talked about his zebras. You know, I wanted to transfer. I’ve always liked rhinoceros and all of the sudden a giraffe with a guitar in its mouth dropped it in my arms and then Simba, the lion, came over and gave Rob a harmonica and a guitar and all of the sudden, bam! Song. Yeah, and I think we were…how old were we? We were working so I guess we were 54 at the time?
I met him at school (laughs)
