Harry Venning at TheStage.co.uk reviewed The Haunted Airman in 2006 when it first aired and thanks to our lovely Phosphorus we got our hands on it :) Here it is:
All of the BBC’s blue filters must have been requisitioned for The Haunted Airman, a very disturbing, beautifully made and satisfyingly chilling ghost story.
Set in a convalescence home for shell-shocked servicemen during World War Two, it starred Robert Pattinson as a wheelchair-bound RAF pilot suffering from trauma, guilt and paranoia. Either that, or he’s actually imprisoned in a private hell run by the devil himself, who sends spiders, birds and the spirits of the dead to torment him. Make up your own mind.

Pattinson - an actor whose jawline is so finely chiselled it could split granite - played the airman of the title with a perfect combination of youthful terror and world weary cynicism. Julian Sands provided creepy support as the oleaginous Dr Barnes, with Rachael Stirling as the airman’s solicitous and attentive ‘aunt’.
Gozde: Mr. Venning had no idea that the "chiselled jaw line" would be famous one day and the photos of the said jaw would be lovingly called "Jaw Porn" :))
You can order The Haunted Airman from Amazon.cu.uk :) (The DVDs ordered from Amazon.co.uk are Region 2. Check this post for more info on region codes and how you can get the DVD outside of UK)

Oh Goz!
I could wax poetic about his heavenly chiseled jaw all day, but I will spare you all the pain.
I'm glad it got a good response; it was slightly dragging for me, but dark and intense enough to hold my interest.
(what do you mean I only watched it for rob?)
this film haunted me after I watched it for a while, but I totally loved it! His performance was stunning!
Oh God did you have to put on the pic with the spiders. I'll be dreaming of them tonight!!!
Seriously I had to watch this movie in stages because I couldn't deal with the spiders but this was an eerie movie that would haunt you and just goes to show the great performance Rob gave but honestly not my fave one of his movies!
It sounds like a really interesting movie. I'll definitely check it out.
He does have one hell of a jawline. But those eyebrows, man... what is up those brows? LOL!

I loved this film... it was quite oddly haunting... i had wished it didn't jump around so much and was longer than 68 minutes.
Rob's performance in this is... wow really really good. I love seeing him in roles other than edward....

The continuing videos are numbered and to the right
And oh... Rob can you come over I have some granite out back that needs spliting ~or wood or something. How funny that dude appreciates "the jaw" too. No one is immune
The movie creeps me out and I don't much like it....but, I loved Rob's performance and just listenig to his vioce had me watchng so many times I lost count.
Here's a shock my DH liked the movie as a whole more than I did.
This is the first performance of Rob's that I ever saw as I watched it on YouTube before Twilight was released. I was mighty impressed (especially considering how young and inexperienced as an actor he was) and even more so as I later learned, he'd had no formal training as an actor. I remember thinking...'my god, it's all instinct.'
And he's just getting started. Give him 5-10 years. He's gonna drop us to our knees.
Although now that I think of it, he could drop me to my knees tonight.
Ooooh Nikola. Naughty, naughty. LOL!
I love this film, I watched it again last night for the 12th time.
Men really get the jaw line thing, I was talking to a male friend last evening and he said that a jaw line like Rob's is extremely important when casting a leading man. That all the great leading men in history had that going for them. Men don't really respect another man with a weak chin. I thought about it and he was dead right. I recall my father mentioning that about other men as well. However he did add that sometimes the jaw line wasn't enough and he brought up Stephen Boyd who was a really boring actor with a strong jaw line, I had to agree to that as well. Stephen Boyd never turned me on..Cary Grant and Rob Pattinson on the otherhand..*swoon*!
I like this movie, this is one of my favourites. :-)
Oooh, thanks, Gözde. I'm flattered.
As for the typo ... ;-)
What I like about this film is once again his body language. The smile, when Toby says "I wouldn't say that [she is a mother figure]". Or the way he smiles when he holds her in his arms and kisses her at night. The way he sits in this wheelchair. There's only one tiny fault, when he crawls into the tub (I suppose there was no other do it or he wouldn't have been able to get in). Probably many people won't notice it anyway with all those spiders around.
And the scene where he is shaving his face is so ..... aaaah! I just love watching a man shave his face in silence, such an intense, erotic moment. Dear film editors, can we have another film with Robert Pattinson shaving his face, please?
P.S. There is another review that is not so nice on the directing but in favour of Rob: "And Robert Pattinson as Toby Jugg did give a great performance."
I watched it for a while I loved the gloomy atmosphere of this movie, but I have been shocked at the end of the movie ,it was sad end.
And Robert is just a great actor
"...so finely chiselled it could split granite." Classic.
And so right, Gozde, indeed ironically prophetic. :)
When I saw this, the kissing dream sequence was almost too much for me to handle...this man was born to kiss, his mouth is just too too too much. *Thud and groan*
Show~It had been removed from youtube (except trailers) so I guess I'll try it again in the next couple of days. *Very Excited*
I love The Haunted Airman! It freaks me out but he was absolutely brilliant in it! Not a fault in this performance, he played it really really well although it had me hiding behind a cushion
@ han-x-walker: Watch the spiders-and-tub-scene again and take a close look at his legs. Not that I think that it matters much, it's totally forgivable. :-)
Ooh, that's the best description of Rob's jaw porn that I've ever heard. "could split granite." Awesome! Fortunately he has beautifully chiseled cheekbones to match, which some men *coughBratPittForOnecough* just do not have.
"Haunted Airman" was the movie that changed how I saw Rob as an actor. I was floored by his performance and immediately knew that he would one day achieve great things. I firmly believe that.
I totally didn't get this movie... I bought the book hoping to gain more insight... nothing... someone want to explain the point of this movie? Don't get me wrong, I would give my right arm to be the woman who got to wash his junk in the movie... oh yeah... for that I will wash the movie again. hahaha! ;)
