CANNES -- Robert Pattinson, who shot to stardom in "Twilight" and is now filming the second and third movies in the franchise, confirmed Tuesday in Cannes that there will be a fourth installment of the vampire franchise based on the book "Breaking Dawn."
Pattinson told The Hollywood Reporter that he is committed to starring in the final outing to date but doesn't know when backers Summit Entertainment will begin production because of the actor's jam-packed shooting schedule.
Fans have been hoping for a movie version of the fourth novel from Stephenie Meyer's best-sellers, so Pattinson's commitment is the biggest fillip yet. The fourth book (caution -- spoiler alert) centers on Bella and Edward's marriage and her subsequent pregnancy.
Dropping in on the Croisette on the way to shooting the final four days of "New Moon" in Italy on Friday, Pattinson said he is heading back to Vancouver in October to finish up "Twilight: Eclipse," the third installment. In between, the British actor, who turned 23 last week, plans to star in "Remember Me," which Summit also is producing.
The script adaptation for "New Moon" beefs up his character's role considerably -- in the book, Edward is a "a voice in Bella's head," he said.
Said Pattinson, laughing: "You're playing a figment in Bella's imagination so I was trying to do it in a 2-D way. I hope it doesn't translate onscreen as being boring." The hardworking actor is taking a few days off after completing "New Moon" before the start of the "Remember Me" shoot. He plans three days off after an eight-week planned shoot for "Remember Me" before finishing "Eclipse" before October.
Pattinson said "Remember Me" is very difficult to describe but said it is very much about him and, after reading the script last summer, felt a connection with it. The main protagonist is a 23-year-old man who spends six weeks after meeting someone working out if he is in love or not.

Ok, I would love to know what all the ladies on this board think of BD and it getting made into a movie. Personally, I liked the book and think that will the right screenplay, it could be a great movie.
But the know it all teenis on L&L are carrying on about how laughable it was, and how no one liked the book (they think the world revolves around their opinion) and the movie will be a joke.
My theory is that MOST of the haters are going to be the younger fans who just haven't lived enough life to really get the impact of BD, and I think the success of this movie could really prove just how many older fans there are.
What do you guys think?
I have to say that I was really disappointed in BD....and that I think they need to start working on that shit NOW! First of all, I will cut someone if they try to do a fade-to-black in the movie. Second, I felt that Edward and Bella really lost themselves in this book. Bella went from haaating the idea of marriage to obsessing about the idea of being pregnant and having Edward's baby. It seemed like a contradiction and a strange departure. And I hated seeing Edward lose himself and all his swag and confidence. Third, I did NOT like the Nessie angle and hated her name. Lol. Fourth, hated that Jacob ended up imprinting on the baby. What about LEAH!?
Anywayz, all of that aside...I do think there were a lot of interesting aspects to BD. It has the potential to be a great film, which is why I suggest they work on it now. There are tweaks they can make and I think the showdown between the good vamps and the Volturi could be awesome...very X-men-esque.
And may I suggest...that I act as Kristen's body double for the honeymoon scenes and the scenes in their little cottage? I know I'm black and 5'9...but we could still make it work!
I loved Breaking Dawn. Some of it was far-out but in a Sci-Fi way. BD will be great if it can be true to the book and that might mean an R rating. Like the honeymoon. The R would guarantee it not being silly. Let the underage bring their mom's to the movie.
I found BD entertaining as opposed to good. It's all going to depend on what the screenwriter does with the material. Cinematically, the vampire convention that masquerades as a climactic (non)battle is going to fall flat onscreen the way it's written. They'll have to tighten it up a lot, people in the book spent a lot of time doing not much of anything and Edward stands around looking a man burning at the stake (poor Rob trying to pull that off!). That being said, no question I'd still go see it.
I didn't like it that well the first time I read it. I wanted more ExB time, and more ExN time, if she had to be in it. However, when I went back and read it again, much slower, lol, I liked it a lot more. I really liked Jacob's part in the book, even if Edward suffered a lot. I do wish there'd been more Edward, and I see what people are saying about his character changing a bit.
There ARE ways for this movie to be done, and stick to the book, and not be ridiculous with Nessie's birth, which seems to be what a lot of people think will make it ridiculous.
They could focus on the wedding, Isle Esme, and all the lead up to her birth, with the wolf pack separating and Jacob saving the Cullen's asses - that's kind of epic right there, considering all that happened before. They don't have to linger too much on Bella's pain and the birth ... they can show that Nessie is killing her from the inside out, and simply insinuate at what goes on during her birth. You can have the sound of metal, without focusing on the stomach thing. They could also focus on Bella's innnermonologue, especially during the change, and of course, afterwards, they can focus on the crisis and impending battle without showing TOO MUCH of Nessie, altho some family scenes are needed. They could have MORE ExB then what's in the book - and I'm not just talking sex, I mean communicating and just being together.
I do agree, there was a lot of standing around in the book, but with a 700+ page book, there is a lot of room for great screenplay, IMO.
I am not a big fan of BD. That being said, don't hold your breath for a sexier version of the pulling Bella into deeper water deal. There is no way this movie will be made into an R film. Summit will stick with PG-13 or a ginormous part of their ticket-buying audience will be lost.
I, personally, think that two versions should be filmed. One for the tweens and one for us. is that too much to ask? :)
I co-sign with the two versions idea! OR At least have an "extended scenes" option on the DVD...which would appease the more mature audiences.

I agree with the both of you. After reading BD I felt a little dissappointed. Its like Stephanie lost her connection to Edward and placed her focus on Jacob. I hated how Edward seemed so disconnected to Renesmee and Jacob pretty much took over the role of the father (Uggh!) The only thing that made this book complete for me was the fan fic ( Esmee's Island from Bellas,and Edward's pov) YUM!!!! If you havn't read it, its a MUST READ. My only hope is the movie goes a little darker with a R rating with sexual content. No more PG-13 nonsense.
Cindeeloo - ITA. Even after feeling much better about it the second time around, it was disappointing to see Edward not play as pivotal of a role. I do like how Bella comes into her own and takes a stand, but I wish there would have been more ExB/family time. I think that was my biggest issue with the book.
The rating tho, isn't going to change. SM doesn't watch R rated films, and as much as I hate to admit it, the age of the fanbase needs a PG-13 rating. We aren't gonna get sex on Isle Esme, or vampire sex, lol.
Stacy, as musch as i hate to admit it your absolutely right. Sometimes i wonder if Stephanie looks back and says to herself (Uggh, what was i thinking!)It's not that i didnt like the book (I'm re-reading it now) It just seems to skip around too much.
But with all criticism aside I think it will be an Amazing movie. With the right director and screenplay, probably the best out of the 4.
I have to say my first time through BD I felt that a lot was missing. However going through it again( I'm not admitting how many x's) and slower, the missing elements were there in a subtle way. I love the book although not my favorite in the series.
I think as a movie there is a lot they can do visually to move it a long and convey E&B and E&R so that your not left feeling as though the relationships are in the backround.
I just would love to see Bella as a badass vampire.
I agree with KK on it only being a PG 13. Unfortunately a large portion of the fan base is made up of teens. I myself would like more than a fede to black on Isle Esmee, and Bella's first nite as a vamp.(smokin I'm sure.)
So with that, my fingers are crossed that we get a decent BD movie.

Cindeeloo!! I read Isle Esme!! AWESOME fanfic! And if you want to read the hottest fanfic that covers both the honeymoon and the first week in the cottage after Bella's change....read "Warmth". The chapter called "Power" covers their first night in the cottage. And talk about needing a cold shower!
I totally agree that it was odd seeing Edward so disconnected and seeingly disinterested in Renesmee. That didn't seem like him at all. That being said, BD has the potential to be amazing if they focus on the right scenes and downplay the more ridiculous aspects...which is anything involving Renesmee, IMO. OH! And who else was a little annoyed at how Bella hardly seemed to change at all or struggle as a new vampire? And she conveniently ended up being one of the most powerful vampires in existence? Come on! But oh well...I'll still be there to see it. Front and center!

Just my opinion here, but I hate Breaking Dawn. It's garbage. I considered using my copy as tinder for the fireplace this past winter.
It's hollow, wooden - S. Meyer completely lost her characters.

I personally realy liked BD, I know a lot of people who said that there should have been a fight w/ volturi at the end, but I agree with the way SM wrote it.
As for it being made into a movie, that would need a strong director, someone who could do the story justice without making it look cheesy.
An R rating is what this story calls for, however. If SM doesn't watch R rated movies then she shouldn't have wrote a story that would need one.The studio will probably will make it PG-13 though, don't want to lose too many fans.
Maybe we should all sign a petition and send it to Summit.LOL
Breaking Dawn was horrible. If for no other reason, the characters were not true to themselves. When you say you want it as a movie, you really need to picture that hot mess on the big screen. That will be a WTF moment for everyone.
The ONLY way I will see it, is they almost completely re-write it. I have a suggestion - LEAVE RENAYNAY OUT!!

I hated Breaking Dawn (see reasons stated above), but in fairness, he does owe a lot to the franchise and the Twilight fans. So, I can't be too upset that he's doing it.
Thought BD was pretty horrible, poorly written, inconsistent and downright creepy, not in a good/fun way. BUT... there are plenty of great scenes in it that could be put front and center to make a good film. Will be interesting to see how much the screenplay for BD strays from the book, to see how many liberties the film franchise is willing to take to improve upon the source material.
And how fast can they work? Because as RP says he already looks like he's aged 5 years since his last visit to the Croisette. He and TL look light years apart, and the rivalry bit is pretty laughable already... But Taylor might start growing uppretty fast himself. After all, Rob still looked like a manchild to me last year, but these days.... all man!

I've read the leaked Remember Me Script.Ordinary indeed. Rob will make it extraordinary. I have faith in him.
I also read the Remember Me script that leaked and I loved it. It totally made me laugh and cry and I could def picture Robert doing that character justice.
I think there are good and bad elements to BD... and I think with such a huge book, there is enough there to make a great movie. I think this is the one they can stray from the book again and build up some of the ExB moments, etc. I don't think they can leave Nessie out, however, since she is basically the reason for the book ... if SM has script approval, she'll never agree to it. I would love to see CW back for BD.
As far as them shooting some of Eclipse now ... how can that be when there are two different directors?
I agree with most of the negative comments about the book that have been made here. Oddly I didn't mind the birth scene so much, because I never believed Edward would really be able to change Bella just because she wanted it. That he changed her to save her life I could believe. So Nessie was essential to tie up the story, I think.
Whether they can make a good movie out of this material--maybe. But they'd need to go back to the characters and make sure they got them right. And Nessie--minimal screen time.
Breaking Dawn was craptastic fan-fiction to the extreme. To make a good movie out of this they will HAVE. TO. MAKE. BELLA. SUFFER. Because watching a self-absorbed, unlikeable bitch sleep-walk her way into getting everything she wants without sacrifice and without any real conflict is BORING. And that's what happened in BD. Bella gets to get married (beautiful ceremony that the ungrateful wretch cant appreciate) to have sex as a human, gets to have her child (even though in Ms Meyer's pre-BD mythology that should have been impossible, but we must make the Mary Sue happy), gets to be the prettiest, most powerful vampire ever, gets to avoid the newborn frenzy, gets to have the child without any actual child-raising, Jacob tied to her through her daughter and thus no messy rivalry with the wolves, gets to have her DAD KNOW ABOUT HER AND NOT GIVE A RAT'S ASS (!?!?!?!?) and wait, not done yet, gets to face down the Volturi, creatures who have had the benefit of hundreds (thousands?) of years of reigning other vampires and send them packing apologetically into the sunset. Seriously, no tension, no sacrifice, and no real drama. They need a director of Scorsese's caliber to make this book into a dramatic movie.
Can they even DO something with that anti-climactic final scene? A bunch of super-powered vampires standing around and filibustering like it was a freaking session of congress? I'm willing to bet my bottom dollar that there WILL be a battle scene in the movie, even if there wasn't one in the book.
